Hey-hey-HEY! We're over 1000 posts with this thread! :D
OK, which king had the longest reign in Arthedain?
Radagast The Brown

Amlaith?

No - not Beleg... a few further down the line.
HINT: you might be in line for a longer reign yourself if your father and/or grandfather meets an untimely end... yet you do not. :) (and I'm not talking about Aragorn)
Radagast The Brown
05-28-2004, 03:44 PM
Ok... since no one guessed the last 3 days: I say Arafor.
Valandil
05-31-2004, 06:41 AM
Yes - Araphor is correct! His grandfather had been killed in 1356 (7 years after coming to the throne) and his father was killed in the big assault from Angmar in 1409. He reigned from then until 1589... 180 years!
Your turn.
Radagast The Brown

Huh! :p
When did the Stoors fled to the south and west of Eriador (,some returned to Wilderland, dwelt aside the Gladden)?

Hmmm... I'm thinking it was in the 1300's of the Third Age. Is there a specific date or event associated with it? Or am I off a few centuries? :p
Radagast The Brown
06-01-2004, 12:23 PM
There is a specific event. :) And the year is mentioned too - 1300 is wrong.
Valandil
06-01-2004, 12:34 PM
Then was it 1409? I know that was a big year... :)
Radagast The Brown
06-01-2004, 12:38 PM
Yup., :)
Valandil
06-02-2004, 11:54 PM
On the Shire calendar, what was the first day of the year called? And what day of the week was it?
Valandil
06-07-2004, 11:21 AM
Oooo.. 4 1/2 days and still no takers. You guys not know your Hobbit calendar? Or did you forget all about this thread?
Anyone want to take a shot at it? Or shall I ask a different question?
Radagast The Brown
06-10-2004, 01:55 AM
Ask a different question. :p
Rosie Gamgee
06-10-2004, 10:12 AM
Yule was what they called it, and it was a Saturday.
Valandil
06-10-2004, 10:45 AM
Oooo... and I was just about to ask another question!
You got it Rosie! The actual name was "Yule 2" - and yes, it was a Saturday!
(Funny about those Hobbits... they call the FIRST day of the year "Yule 2" and the LAST day of the year "Yule 1"... kinda cute really, the two Yule Days sort of 'connect' the two years)
Anyhow - your turn! :)
Rosie Gamgee
06-10-2004, 10:50 AM
Oh, cool.
Um, well, if you already had a question prepared, you can post. I don't get on this board very often and have a habit of forgetting that I posted questions. So you can post another one.
Valandil
06-23-2004, 09:23 AM
Who was Leod?
And - for 'extra credit' - who killed him? :)
Beruthiel's cat
06-23-2004, 09:52 AM
He was the father of Eorl the Young. He was killed by Felarof, first of the Mearas.
Valandil
06-23-2004, 09:53 AM
Correct BC... your turn! Say, is this your first time in this thread? :) If so, welcome!
Beruthiel's cat
06-23-2004, 09:58 AM
Yep, it's my first time here, Val. I just happened to have my reference material close at hand though...I don't usually.
I suppose you want me to ask the next question now...
Well, as I said, since I happen to have my reference material right here ---
What is the significance of Galbasi?

Ah... you had to look it up! ;) That's OK... we pretty much all started doing that for THIS thread. What's amazing is how after playing this game for awhile, you DON'T NEED TO look things up anymore.
Uh... having said all that, I must now admit I don't know what 'Galbasi' is. :o Nor do I have MY reference materials handy. :p

A hint would be: it's more a "who" than a "what"... but not exactly...
:p
Nimbrennil
06-26-2004, 01:44 PM
Suilad,
Okay, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 'Galbasi' referring to the 'Hobbit' last name 'Gamgee', as in 'Samwise Gamgee', 'Banazîr Galbasi'. Well, okay. Gotta go, bye!
Beruthiel's cat
06-28-2004, 09:35 AM

Well - let's just keep it moving:

Radagast The Brown
07-09-2004, 03:03 PM
Is it mentioned? I don't remember reading of it.
Elanor the Fair
07-10-2004, 04:10 AM
Yes - it is mentioned in the appendices.
I am one of the golden-haired children!! (Elanor the Fair!!) but there were others. You don't need the names - just how many children were born with golden hair. :)

Radagast The Brown

I'd guess... 4? Blonde hair is rare to hobbits.

From the appendices...
She (Elanor) became known as "The Fair" because of her beauty; many said that she looked more like an elf-maid than a hobbit. She had golden hair, which had been very rare in the Shire; but two others of Samwise's daughters were also golden-haired, and so were many of the children born at this time.
Three is the correct answer, Radagast!! Well done! :)
Valandil
07-13-2004, 11:01 AM
OK Raddy... get your question up! :p
Radagast The Brown
07-13-2004, 11:50 AM
Elanor, It is said that two of the daughters had blonde hair, and in your question you said 'Children' which can refer also to sons of Sam.
To which Dwarven King was given the first Ring of the dwarves?

Radagast, There is no mention in the appendices regarding any sons having golden hair,so we can assume that there were none.
:) Elanor the Fair (with golden hair!!) That rhymes!! :D
You, however, came up with the correct answer and learned something new about Sam's children/daughters in the process - well done!! :)

Radagast The Brown

Boromir son of Denethor the first. He conquered Osgiliath from the orcs. And I think it was written that he was handsome.

I had to check that one. It says 'he was noble and fair of face' of that Boromir. I had someone else and those words I used were the exact ones in the text - so let's see if anyone can come up with my first one. :)
VERY good though! :)
Valandil
07-16-2004, 09:53 AM
In case it's too hard, the full sentence may provide more help... IIRC:
"He was handsome and valiant, and showed no signs of aging faster than his father."
helpful? :)
Radagast The Brown
07-16-2004, 10:24 AM
Earnur?
Valandil
07-16-2004, 10:27 AM
No - not Earnur :)
Count Comfect
07-16-2004, 03:07 PM
Well, I can't remember his name, but isn't that the King of Gondor with the Rhovannion blood in him, so everyone assumed that he would age faster since he wasn't a "pureblood" Numenorian?
Valandil
07-16-2004, 03:14 PM
You'er right about that CC... and since this has sort of stalled out, I'll let you take it from here. His name was Eldacar.

No... I'll leave it to someone else. Rad has apparently lost his appendix! ;) :pHow dare you.:p I just didn't take them with me. I took FotR, Sil and another bok of Pratchett... 'Equal Rites'.
Halbarad of the Dunedain
08-10-2004, 04:51 AM
Silmariën was the daughter and eldest child of Tar-Elendil! It was her that started the line of the Lords of Andúnië! This was the line from which the Kings of Gondor and Arnor were descended. Which of course include Elendil the Tall and Isildur who cut the ring from Saurons hand. And finally to Aragorn Elessar of the company of the ring.
Valandil
08-10-2004, 07:11 PM
I see Radagast hasn't gotten back to this... you ARE correct Halbarad! :)
Your turn to post the next one.

Next question is,
What is Thorin Okensheilds relation to Gimli Elf Friend!?
Radagast The Brown
08-11-2004, 06:40 PM
Doesn't Gloin and Thorin have the same grand-grand-grandfather? and Gloin is Gimli's father.
Halbarad of the Dunedain
08-12-2004, 06:48 PM
Yet what is the Relation of Gimli and Thorin, not Gimli and Gloin. Or Gloin and Thorin. Im sure you got it but still havent named the answer.
Valandil
08-12-2004, 06:49 PM
Well... if Rad's on the right track, is Gimli the third cousin of Thorin, once removed?
Halbarad of the Dunedain

Valandil
08-21-2004, 02:08 AM
OK - I'll give it a whirl... only a very few possibilities:
March 14, 3019?
Valandil
08-23-2004, 02:06 AM
...March 14, 3019?
I just looked this up since I got no answer yet  ... it is correct.
Next Question: How many years difference is there between the year in the standard Third Age calendar and the year in Shire Reckoning?
(And - if you want to show us just how smart you are - tell us why :p )
I'll be on vacation for a week - so if someone thinks they got it, please ask somebody to verify it for you, then move on. :)

1600 years then? Wasn't sure which of both is correct.
Valandil
08-29-2004, 09:15 PM
1600 years is correct - your turn! :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
08-30-2004, 12:29 PM
Just checked and where I thought it said their birth date it said their death date so I bettter change the question.
In what year did Fili and Kili die?
Radagast The Brown
08-30-2004, 12:49 PM
Hey! You could check their birth date then.
Anyway, that's easier, and should be 2941, the same year of the journeyu of Bilbo.
Telcontar_Dunedain
08-30-2004, 12:52 PM

Oh goodness... 27-something! Was it 2770? (please give some warmer-colder / higher-lower hints or something! :D )
BTW - birth years for Fili and Kili ARE given in the appendices... only it's not the same year. They were simply brothers, not twins.

You mean a king that desired it? Or a whole nation (like Cardolen)
What do YOU think? ;) (and there may be more than one)
Radagast The Brown
09-02-2004, 01:37 PM
Rodaur and Angmar?
Valandil
09-02-2004, 01:39 PM
No - but Rhudaur was one... and there was one other. :)
Radagast The Brown
09-02-2004, 01:59 PM
Cardolan?
Valandil
09-02-2004, 02:01 PM
Yes - your turn! :)
Radagast The Brown
09-02-2004, 02:20 PM
Where did Merry and Pippin buried?
Telcontar_Dunedain
09-02-2004, 02:21 PM
In Gondor next to King Elessar.
Radagast The Brown
09-02-2004, 02:24 PM
I want... some more. The street's name, in toher words.
Earniel
09-02-2004, 05:43 PM
I want... some more. The street's name, in toher words.
That would be Rath DÃ*nen, the Silent Street.
Radagast The Brown
09-03-2004, 07:18 AM
Correct. :)
Earniel
09-03-2004, 06:59 PM
Give another name for Éomer.
Halbarad of the Dunedain
09-07-2004, 05:28 PM
Another name!? Or just a title, like Third Marshal of Riddermark? Or his second name Éadig!?
Earniel
09-07-2004, 06:56 PM
Eadig was what I was looking for, your turn.
Halbarad of the Dunedain
09-12-2004, 05:06 AM
Sorry for my lateness, if it is still my turn then here we go:
Who is the first Ruling Steward of Gondor to have a similar name(named after in a sense) to an elf in history!? As well as wich steward he was i.e. 10th, 12th, etc.?
Telcontar_Dunedain
09-12-2004, 06:24 AM
Ecthelion. 10th?
Halbarad of the Dunedain
09-12-2004, 06:29 AM
Incorrect, Sorry Telcontar, Ecthelion was the 17th Ruling Steward of Gondor and was not the first to have an "elf name".
Telcontar_Dunedain
09-12-2004, 06:31 AM
I meant Ecthelion the first but never mind.
Halbarad of the Dunedain
09-12-2004, 06:35 AM
Ecthelion the first was 17th, Ecthelion I (2698)[17] son of Orodreth (2685)[16].
Radagast The Brown
09-14-2004, 11:11 AM
Dior?
Valandil
09-16-2004, 09:48 AM
Rad - I had to look this one up, but yes, it looks to me like Dior was the first (even though he was just half! :p )... he was the 9th Steward.
Go ahead and ask the next question if you like.
Radagast The Brown
09-16-2004, 05:29 PM
k, thanks. It was a rather random guess, by the way. :p
Ehm, What's the difference in the ages between Boromir and Faramir?
ethuiliel
09-18-2004, 12:42 AM
I'm just guessing here, but 8 years?
Radagast The Brown
09-18-2004, 06:33 AM
No. .
Telcontar_Dunedain
09-18-2004, 07:11 AM
7 years?
Radagast The Brown
09-18-2004, 07:44 AM
No. (now don't start guessing numbers, until you cover all numbers between 1 to 20 :p)
ethuiliel
09-18-2004, 02:43 PM
can you give us a hint? Hot or cold? high or low?
Radagast The Brown
09-18-2004, 03:25 PM
lower than 7.
Halbarad of the Dunedain
09-18-2004, 10:19 PM
It was five years. Boromir was born in 2978 of the third age, Faramir was born on 2983 of the third age.
[78(1) 79(2) 80(3) 81(4) 82(5) 83]
ethuiliel
09-18-2004, 10:44 PM
just curious, did you actually know that? or did you look it up? because that'd be very impressive if you didn't!
Halbarad of the Dunedain
09-19-2004, 01:58 AM
Both, kinda. I knew it was 5 years, and I obviosuly knew third age, all i didn't know was the exact date, I knew it had to be within the 29XX of the third age though, I looked it up just to put the exact numbers in the XX's.
Radagast The Brown
09-19-2004, 06:30 AM
It is 5 years indeed.
You really shouldn't look it up, because everyone can do that...
Valandil
09-23-2004, 06:43 AM
Game stalled - will jump-start:
What does 'Falastur' mean?
Radagast The Brown
09-23-2004, 11:31 AM
Lord of the shores?
Valandil
09-23-2004, 11:55 AM
Good enough translation! :) My version says 'Lord of the coasts' - essentially the same thing.
You go! :)
Radagast The Brown
09-23-2004, 12:19 PM
thanks. :)
Who was the first ruling queen and who was her father?
Telcontar_Dunedain
09-23-2004, 12:20 PM
Ruling Queen of what?
Radagast The Brown
09-23-2004, 12:22 PM
Right, of Numenore. :o
Valandil
09-23-2004, 12:59 PM
Ancalime... daughter of Aldarion (and Erendis! :) )
Radagast The Brown
09-23-2004, 06:09 PM
Correct. :) (Erendis isn't mentioned in the appendix, btw.) (so I couldn't ask abut her)
Valandil
09-24-2004, 03:40 AM
In whose day did Gondor reach the summit of its power?
Radagast The Brown
09-24-2004, 02:40 PM
Romandecil? (sp.)
Valandil
09-24-2004, 02:51 PM
Romandecil? (sp.)
No - not him... :)
Radagast The Brown
09-24-2004, 04:24 PM
Hiarmendacil (sp.) maybe?
Valandil
09-24-2004, 04:27 PM
Hiarmendacil (sp.) maybe?
That's the one! (Hyarmendacil, IIRC) Your turn...
(hope this doesn't just keep bouncing between you and me) :)
Radagast The Brown
09-24-2004, 04:42 PM
(I'll ask a hard question then. )
Who (steward) added one day in the Steward's Reckoning at 2360?
Telcontar_Dunedain
09-25-2004, 03:10 AM
Turgon?
Radagast The Brown
09-25-2004, 11:50 AM

Count Comfect
09-25-2004, 06:58 PM

Radagast The Brown
09-26-2004, 07:53 AM
Not him.
Telcontar_Dunedain
09-26-2004, 02:19 PM
Denethor the first?
Radagast The Brown
09-26-2004, 02:28 PM
No. :p A hint?
Telcontar_Dunedain
09-26-2004, 02:34 PM
Yes please!
Radagast The Brown
09-26-2004, 02:37 PM
His name was the same as a rather famous man from the first age.
Halbarad of the Dunedain
09-30-2004, 04:28 AM
Turin?
Radagast The Brown
09-30-2004, 01:44 PM

Valandil
09-30-2004, 01:46 PM
Hurin?
Radagast The Brown
09-30-2004, 01:52 PM
no... want another hint?
Telcontar_Dunedain
09-30-2004, 01:54 PM
Yes please :p
Valandil
09-30-2004, 01:55 PM
Beren?
Radagast The Brown
09-30-2004, 01:59 PM
It's not Beren either. :p
Hmmm... he's the Seventh ruling Steward, if it helps.
Count Comfect
09-30-2004, 04:36 PM
Elros? Can't even remember if that's the name of a ruling Steward, but I'll try it anyway.
Valandil
09-30-2004, 04:42 PM
Was there a 'Huor'?
Radagast The Brown
09-30-2004, 06:15 PM
Elros was the first king of Numenore, IIRC, CC. :)
No, not Huor. But it does begin with an 'h'.:) *waiting hopefully for the right answer*
Valandil
09-30-2004, 06:34 PM
Haldir?
Radagast The Brown
09-30-2004, 06:47 PM
No... (*sigh* :D I told you I'll make a very hard one, didn't I? )
Halbarad of the Dunedain
09-30-2004, 07:30 PM
Hador!
Radagast The Brown
09-30-2004, 07:36 PM
At last!!! Very well, Halbarad, Hador it is. :) Congradulations! Erhm, your turn.
Halbarad of the Dunedain
09-30-2004, 07:43 PM
Okay, okay I will post my question by the end ofthis night, i swear...[no book w/me at the moment]
Halbarad of the Dunedain
10-01-2004, 04:22 AM
Okay here is my Question;
Which King of Gondor wished to move the King's Seat from Minas Anor to Pelargir? As well as which number King was he?(i.e. 7th King of Gondor)
Radagast The Brown
10-05-2004, 06:25 PM
Earnil the first? (if there were two?)
Valandil
10-16-2004, 07:46 AM
Okay here is my Question;
Which King of Gondor wished to move the King's Seat from Minas Anor to Pelargir? As well as which number King was he?(i.e. 7th King of Gondor)
Halbarad, please re-check your question. IIRC, it was (EDIT: Castamir) who wanted to move the King's Seat to Pelargir - but at the time it was still in Osgiliath, not Minas Anor.
Just please confirm that your question is valid as written, or correct it.
Thank you. :)
Valandil
10-20-2004, 11:47 AM
No sign of Halbarad, so I looked it up - it was indeed Castamir (and it WAS from Osgiliath that he wanted to remove the King's seat to Pelargir). Saying 'what number' King he was is problematic, since JRRT didn't really assign numbers... so do we count from Elendil, from Anarion or from Meneldil? And do we count both Anarion AND Isildur?
So... let's limit the information requested to what is spelled out.
Next Question: Whom did Castamir have put to death?
Radagast The Brown
10-20-2004, 02:24 PM
His opponent's son (can't remember his name), Amendil.
Valandil
10-20-2004, 02:40 PM
His opponent's son (can't remember his name), Amendil.
Let's try to get a little closer... ;)
Since RtB obviously didn't look it up, can anyone get this without doing so? :)
Radagast The Brown
10-29-2004, 08:37 PM
I don't think anyone can. :p
Valandil
11-03-2004, 03:00 PM
*sigh* I guess that was too obscure! Ornendil was his name.
Somebody else want to ask one? Or should I try again? Just would like to see this thread move forward again... :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
11-03-2004, 03:02 PM
I think RtB should go as he was the only one that had a go!
Radagast The Brown
11-03-2004, 03:19 PM
What was the most favoured alphabet in Moria?
Telcontar_Dunedain
11-03-2004, 03:20 PM
Daeron's Rune's.
Radagast The Brown
11-03-2004, 03:22 PM
Yeah, correct.
Telcontar_Dunedain
11-03-2004, 03:26 PM
I'll post a question later as I haven't got the books with me at the moment.
Telcontar_Dunedain
11-03-2004, 05:32 PM
According to Gandalf, what might there not have been had he not met Thorin Oakenshield?
Rosie Gamgee
11-03-2004, 05:37 PM
Um... Lothlorien, maybe? (Because if the Dwarves hadn't retaken the Lonely Mountain there would have been nothing between Mordor and the Misty Mountains but Mirkwood... I think)
Telcontar_Dunedain
11-03-2004, 05:38 PM
Nope.
Rosie Gamgee
11-03-2004, 05:39 PM
*snaps fingers* darn. Okay, Clarify something for me. What is it that might not have been- an event; or a thing, a place?
Radagast The Brown
11-03-2004, 05:40 PM
Eriador was ruined, basically?
Telcontar_Dunedain
11-03-2004, 05:43 PM
*snaps fingers* darn. Okay, Clarify something for me. What is it that might not have been- an event; or a thing, a place?
None, although it is more thing than an of the others.
Eriador was ruined, basically?
That may have happened but it is not what Gandalf said.
Rosie Gamgee
11-03-2004, 05:48 PM
Aha!!! No Queen, it was, precious, yess, no Queen of Gondor. Gandalf said, he did, he said there would have been no Queen of Gondor, precious- he said it, he did.
Are we right, my precious, my love?
if gandalf and thorin hadn't met, there wouldnt have been any defence in the north against mordors forces?
Telcontar_Dunedain
11-03-2004, 05:50 PM
Rosie is correct.
Radagast The Brown
11-03-2004, 05:52 PM
I disagree - "We might now hope to return from the victory here onlny to ruin and ash." - that's what Gandalf says, in Appendix A.
Rosie Gamgee
11-03-2004, 05:55 PM
Ooo, two possible answers... But he chose ME!!! *puts TD on her buddy list*
Okay, uh.... What did Azog call Nar?
Telcontar_Dunedain
11-03-2004, 05:58 PM
Appendix A
There might have been no Queen of Gondor. We might now hope to return from the victory here only to ruin and ash.
Valandil
11-03-2004, 05:59 PM
.... What did Azog call Nar?
Not sure, but... 'bearded beggar'??
you've get punished for reading the books not in the original language.
i know what he called him in norwegian, put i can't translate it to english.
Rosie Gamgee
11-03-2004, 06:01 PM
Close, Valandil.
Val, kind sir, you need to check your pm box. But I'm off for now. I'll not be back until next week- so if someone gets the correct answer for sure *off they go to the book*, they can have it. Otherwise honorary turnship goes to Val.
Radagast The Brown
11-03-2004, 06:04 PM
Appendix AI know. But I think Teh fact that Eriador would be destroyed is jsut a bit more important than the Queen of Gondor...
Valandil
11-03-2004, 06:05 PM
Oh - maybe 'bearded thief'?
I could let pytt go if that's right...
I saw your PM, will try to give quickie answer now. :)
Valandil
11-03-2004, 06:08 PM
I know. But I think Teh fact that Eriador would be destroyed is jsut a bit more important than the Queen of Gondor...
I see what TD is saying though Rad... he asked what would NOT have been. :)
Radagast The Brown
11-03-2004, 06:13 PM
I see what TD is saying though Rad... he asked what would NOT have been. :)Ah. Well, that's just being... that word I forgot. It's not really important... as I say my answer is 'Eriador as lively and beautiful as it was' or something like that... I don't think the Queen of Gondor has any importance, really. Just my opinion... oyu may continue now.. :)
Valandil
11-03-2004, 06:15 PM
Ah. Well, that's just being... that word I forgot. It's not really important... as I say my answer is 'Eriador as lively and beautiful as it was' or something like that... I don't think the Queen of Gondor has any importance, really. Just my opinion... oyu may continue now.. :)
You'd change your mind REAL quick if you were the KING of Gondor!! ;)
I think the English word you want is 'picky'! :p
hellu. i belive it's my turn to post. well, let's see then. i must say, it's been a loooong time since last i've read something in the appendix, or in the book as a whole for that matter.
what was the third trouble which imapaired Gondors lacking forces for almost hundred years?
Rosie Gamgee
11-08-2004, 03:10 PM
Um, your question is kind of vague, so I'm guessing in the dark, but, maybe, that really long Winter. It had a name, but it just left my brain (sneaky facts- they use the back door and I can't keep track)
Telcontar_Dunedain
11-08-2004, 03:14 PM
I think you mean The Fell Winter but that was in The Shire.
Invasion fomr Umbar?
Rosie Gamgee
11-08-2004, 03:24 PM
No, no, there was a really long winter that hit all of Middle Earth. Gondor suffered really bad, and I think somebody important (like a prince or something) in Rohan died or something.
I think you mean The Fell Winter but that was in The Shire.
Invasion fomr Umbar?
your on to something with the Umbar invasion. but not exactly.
Valandil
11-08-2004, 04:54 PM
I think pytt is asking about the Third of the Three Evils. If this helps, the first two were:
1. The Kin-slaying (mid 1400's TA)
2. The Great Plagues (mid 1600's TA)
3. ?? ;)
Rosie is correct in that there was a 'Long Winter' distinct from the 'Fell Winter' - and it was that winter when Rohan had unrest and Helm Hammerhand died... but that (and the Fell Winter) were both about 1000 years (give or take) after #3 above. :)
And I don't think either the Long Winter or the Fell Winter had too much direct impact on Gondor.
yes, valandil has got it! i'm asking for the third evil. what was it?
Rosie Gamgee
11-08-2004, 05:09 PM
The War of the Ring? (this whole 'three evils' thing is in the Appendix? :D )
no, it is not the war of the ring. and yes, it is in the appendix.
