Jonathan
05-18-2003, 12:22 PM
Gollum only had six theeth, the poor creature :)

All in all, how many riddles were asked by Bilbo and Gollum?(Bilbo's last riddle included).

Dreran the Green
05-18-2003, 12:40 PM
was it nine?

Radagast The Brown
05-18-2003, 03:34 PM
I think it's 10...

Dreran the Green
05-18-2003, 04:59 PM
*pretending I didn't hear the answer* Is it ten?:D

Jonathan
05-18-2003, 05:06 PM
Bilbo's last question included, it's ten riddles. Radagast was first to give the answer :)

Dreran the Green
05-18-2003, 05:14 PM
Foiled again:D Your turn Radagast:)

Agburanar
05-20-2003, 10:17 AM
Apologies, I am bored of waiting so here's an easy one in the meantime:

Why did Bilbo regret showing off his skill with smoke rings??

Radagast The Brown
05-20-2003, 03:14 PM
Answer to Agburanar: becasue he saw Gandalf smoking much morebeautiful and colorful rings.

Q: Why did the king of the elves in Mirkwood untied the dwarves when they just got to Menegroth?

Earniel
05-20-2003, 03:34 PM
Because the gate of the palace was magical and the dwarves wouldn't have been able to get out even if they were untied so...wait..wait... Menegroth, you said? Wasn't that in...the Silmarillion? *is very confused now*

Radagast The Brown
05-21-2003, 03:01 PM
you're right. I accidently wrote Menegroth. sorry.

Earniel
05-21-2003, 04:07 PM
So was I right about the gate?

Radagast The Brown
05-22-2003, 03:33 PM
yes you're right. Yout turn.

Earniel
05-22-2003, 06:16 PM
Name the two things that were buried with Thorin.

Dreran the Green
05-22-2003, 07:01 PM
Orcrist and the Arkenstone

Earniel
05-23-2003, 03:57 AM
Indeed they were. Your turn.

Dreran the Green
05-23-2003, 04:41 PM
See if you can say the EXACT reply Gandalf gave Bilbo when he said "good morning" to him!:D

Lizra
05-23-2003, 05:30 PM
"What do you mean."

Dreran the Green
05-24-2003, 09:40 AM
The stuff after that too

Lizra
05-24-2003, 08:28 PM
"Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not, or that you feel good this morning, or that it is a morning to be good on?"

I would have rolled my eyes  and walked back inside at that point! :D

Dreran the Green
05-24-2003, 08:47 PM
All of them at once!:D Your turn!

At that point I would have began an argument with Gandalf and he'd probably turn me into a toad to shut me up!:D

Lizra
05-24-2003, 08:59 PM
Who showed Thorin the Arkenstone?

Elvengirl
05-24-2003, 09:15 PM
I believe it was Bard.

Lizra
05-25-2003, 10:35 AM
No...try again! :)

Elvengirl
05-25-2003, 10:51 AM
Was it Gandalf?

Lizra
05-25-2003, 10:59 AM
Yes! Recall that an old man, "wrapped in cloak and hood bore a strong casket of iron-bound wood."

....the old man opened the casket......

......The old man with the casket threw aside his hood and cloak. "Here is Gandalf!" ........

Your question. :)

Elvengirl
05-25-2003, 11:08 AM
Ah yes, I remember.

ok, what did Thranduil wear upon his head?

Radagast The Brown
05-26-2003, 03:44 PM
a crown of red leaves and.... grapes??? sounds bad. But that's my translation.... for the autumn it was.

Elvengirl
05-26-2003, 11:18 PM
no not grapes, think autumn colors ;) :D

Radagast The Brown
05-28-2003, 03:17 PM
 not my fault. I was translating the translation. Somewhere, I was wrong. But the grey leaves were right! I demand you'll except my answer, immediately.

Elvengirl
05-28-2003, 07:58 PM
Now, now, relax Mr. Brown, no need to be demanding. :p :D
My book says red leaves and berries and since you were close, I'll give it to you. Ok? :D

Who killed Thror?

Elvengirl
05-29-2003, 07:52 PM
:p
He was killed in Moria by some goblin.

Radagast The Brown
05-30-2003, 03:37 PM
What was the goblin's name?

Dreran the Green
05-30-2003, 05:13 PM
Azog?

BTW, that sarumaun avvy is creepin me out:eek: Its very cool, but also terribly disturbing. Its watching me:eek:;)

Radagast The Brown
05-30-2003, 05:16 PM
right.

Thank you.... :p

Dreran the Green
05-30-2003, 05:24 PM
What does Bilbo borrow from Elrond?

Radagast The Brown
05-30-2003, 05:43 PM
that's a really good question - I looked for the answer in the two places it should be - in the beginning and the ending - but he didn't borrow anything.

Earniel
05-30-2003, 07:27 PM
a hankie?

Lizra
05-30-2003, 08:46 PM
Yes! (That question is in here already! :) )

Earniel
05-31-2003, 04:00 AM
What was the name of the raven that spoke to Thorin and his friends?

Radagast The Brown
05-31-2003, 11:16 AM
originally posted by Earniel
a hankie? You mean hanky? If not, I should buy a new dictionary...

Is the answer is Roek son of Kark? (or Roec son of Carc...)

Earniel
06-01-2003, 07:05 AM
My dictionary says both hankie and hanky are correct ways of spelling.

The correct name is Roäc, son of Carc. But I suppose the difference is due to the translation. Your turn! :)

Radagast The Brown
06-01-2003, 03:26 PM
ok. Thanks.

How many goblins were killed by Gandalf's lightning in the cave (when the goblins surprised them and kidnapped the dwarves and Bilbo...)?

Elvengirl
06-01-2003, 03:51 PM
several

Radagast The Brown
06-01-2003, 04:06 PM
wrong.

Elvengirl
06-01-2003, 05:29 PM
 ...........;) a goblin or two?

Lizra
06-01-2003, 07:04 PM
one? (The Great Goblin)

Radagast The Brown
06-02-2003, 04:16 PM
Elvengirl is right.

Elvengirl
06-02-2003, 11:04 PM

Radagast The Brown
06-03-2003, 03:52 PM

Elvengirl
06-03-2003, 09:34 PM

(hate this 90 sec rule  )

Lizra
06-03-2003, 09:47 PM
Fili! His barrel smelled of apples. We are getting several repeat questions here, but that's ok! :D

Elvengirl
06-03-2003, 11:35 PM
oh really, sorry :o
I kind of joined in later.

But yes LIzra, that's correct. Ask away

Lizra
06-04-2003, 07:41 AM
That's ok Elvengirl! Who in their right mind would read all these pages of a trivia game? :D Course, you'd learn alot about The Hobbit, I guess! No problem!

What dwarvish "watchman" did Bilbo replace on the Lonely Mountain?

Radagast The Brown
06-04-2003, 03:27 PM
Bombur??? (without looking in the book!)

Lizra
06-04-2003, 08:25 PM
Very Good! Yes, Radagast...It was the famous, fat Bombur. Your question! :)

Radagast The Brown
06-05-2003, 03:17 PM
How does the Arkenstone look like? (how did Thorin described it?)

Elvengirl
06-07-2003, 12:04 PM
Hmm.. it was a huge white gem that shone like silver in the firelight, like water in the sun, like snow under the stars, like rain upon the Moon.
(I didn't look in the book, I swear;) )

Radagast The Brown
06-07-2003, 12:08 PM
Rihgt. Your turn.

Elvengirl
06-07-2003, 05:10 PM
How did Bilbo escape from the tree being burned by the golblins?

Gwaimir Windgem
06-07-2003, 09:01 PM
The Eagles saved him, the Dwarves, and Gandalf, who apparently cannot fly. ;)

Elvengirl
06-08-2003, 09:50 AM
Close but how did he escape the tree. An eagle did not actually save Bilbo ;) :D

gimli7410
06-08-2003, 12:58 PM
he grabbed on to doris legs who was holding on to the eagle

Elvengirl
06-08-2003, 01:45 PM

Lizra
06-13-2003, 01:14 PM
Oh goody! Another question! (This is getting tough!)

Where would the eagles NOT take the dwarves (and hobbit ;) ) and why?

Radagast The Brown
06-13-2003, 04:06 PM
They wouldn't take them to the lands of the men, I believe. I can't remember why. Maybe becuase the men were afraid of the eagles, and shot the eagles with arrows?

Elvengirl
06-14-2003, 08:37 PM
I believe that's right. Lizra, is Radagast correct?

Lizra
06-14-2003, 08:58 PM
He's correct! The eagles would not take them to the lands of men, the eagles said the men would think they ( the eagles) were after their sheep ( ! ) and shoot arrows at them.

gimli7410
06-15-2003, 02:24 PM

Radagast The Brown
06-15-2003, 03:29 PM

Elvengirl
06-15-2003, 03:42 PM
He was a red-golden dragon.

Radagast The Brown
06-15-2003, 04:07 PM
Right.

Elvengirl
06-15-2003, 07:04 PM

Bombadillo
06-16-2003, 09:49 PM
Magic, or a spell, something to that affect. (The enchanted door closed behind them)

hehe.........I will never tell you........hehehe

j/k

Lizra's correct :D

Lizra
06-17-2003, 09:43 PM
They were sitting inside, with the door half open. Bilbo got the heebie jeebies....he begged them to shut the door, and Thorin was the one to "kick" the stone away that wedged the door. They "thrust upon it, and it closed with sanp and a clang."

Good question Elvengirl!

Who had.....

"a savage look like a dog that had been chained and forgotten in a kennel for a week." ?? :)

Radagast The Brown
06-18-2003, 03:35 PM
I have!

mmmm... is that your question? Weird... I guess it is though.
Thorin?

gimli7410
06-18-2003, 03:42 PM
gollum:confused:

Lady of Rohan
06-18-2003, 05:39 PM
I think it was Thorin after Bilbo opened up his barrel at the Lake Town shores (Like Radagast said).

Lizra
06-18-2003, 09:41 PM
Yes...The answer is Thorin, after coming out of the barrel. :)

Radagast The Brown
06-19-2003, 03:17 PM
Yay! Great guess. (go me! :p )

What did Gandalf eat at Beoren's house in the first morning the company stayed there?

Lady of Rohan
06-19-2003, 04:32 PM
Erm.... Honey, and bread?

Radagast The Brown
06-20-2003, 04:49 PM
Not exactly. I want it more precise. (The bread and the honey are right - but I want more two kinds of food.)

Elvengirl
06-21-2003, 07:59 PM
Let's see.......... Gandalf had two loaves of bread with butter and hunny and clotted cream and he drank a quart of mead. :D

In the 'morning' the book doesn't say what he ate, it just indicates he had breakfast - when he returns from his scouting that day, Gandalf just says "One question at a time - and none till after supper! I haven't had a bite since breakfast." He then goes on to eat two whole loaves (with masses of butter and honey and clotted cream) and drinks at least a quart of mead for supper, but that is in the evening. You did say you wanted us to be more precise;)

Dreran the Green
06-22-2003, 09:36 AM
Gandalf eats a lot:eek:

Oh well, everyone else about covered the answers. I'll wait for the next question *walks off humming*

Okay, for the sake of the slow witted :p

Bilbo mistakenly thought he had arrived at The Mountain (you know, The Lonely Mountain, the one with the fire breathing lizard type creature and the heap of gold and jewels) before he had actually arrived there. What was it he saw that made him think he had arrived at his destination?

(He he, why use 15 words when 51 will do)!;)

In which season in the year (Summer, Autaumn, Winter, Spring) did Bilbo got to the journey? (LM - not more then 2 guesses please. That would give no chance to other members to answer correctly)

Radagast The Brown

They filled every vessel in water. Every warrior put on his weapon. All the arrows got ready. The bridge to the land was destroyed. (it's my transaltion to English.)

Lizra

Oopsie, forgot I got to post another question. :o

When Bilbo got his mithril chainmail from Thorin, he received two other items with it. Which items?

jsandecker
10-06-2003, 10:15 PM
Hope I'm not dissappointing anyone...
Bilbo also recieved a "belt of pearls and crystals. A light helm of figured leather, strengthened beneath with hoops of steel, and studded about the brim with white gems was set upon the hobbit's head." :D

Earniel
10-07-2003, 05:25 AM
Those were indeed the items I was looking for. :) Your turn to ask a question.

And welcome to the entmoot. :)

jsandecker
10-07-2003, 09:05 PM
:) Thanks. Now for the question.
What day did Thrain (Thorin's father) leave, after which Thorin never saw him again?
Bonus:How many years before the unexpected party did he leave?;)

Valandil
10-08-2003, 10:21 AM
Oh man! I think I was JUST reading this yesterday...

March 25, 2841???

The info is actually not in "The Hobbit" though (or is it - I read it either in Appendix A or in "People of ME") - is that within the rules?

Valandil
10-08-2003, 10:24 AM
Oh - and that made it 100 years before the unexpected party... like the previous (or next) Tuesday or something.

jsandecker
10-08-2003, 06:02 PM
:D Glad I found such a good one. Actually, it is in the book, and you're close.:)

Valandil
10-09-2003, 02:06 PM
Then I'll just outright guess... April 15, 2841?

I re-checked what I had read (after my first try) - and found the date that had struck me was March 25, 2941 - the date when Gandalf met Thorin (either on the road on in Bree) when they were both traveling east.

Radagast The Brown
10-09-2003, 04:04 PM
Valandil is right. It was exactly 100 years before the unexpected party.

jsandecker
10-09-2003, 04:12 PM
The Hobbit doesn't say the year, but you are very close for the day.;) I'll give it to you. The answer given by the Hobbit is "And Thrain your father went away on the twenty-first of April, a hundred years ago last Thursday, and has never been seen by you since-" It's said by Gandalf during the Unexpected Party. Your turn, Valandil.

Valandil
10-09-2003, 04:33 PM
OK thanks... I guess I was within a week. Why'd I pick tax day? And yes - you have to go to LOTR appendices to get the year...

Now I have two... but along similar lines to the last one:

"EXACTLY how long was Bilbo away on his 'adventure'?"

Radagast The Brown
10-09-2003, 04:43 PM
one year?

Valandil
10-09-2003, 04:46 PM
not exactly... I guess I'm being stricter on you than "jsandecker" was on me (sorry) - but let's see if you or someone can nail it exactly...

Valandil
10-10-2003, 10:27 AM
Arghhhh! I was mistaken... I checked and there is no EXACT time given for the trip. Somehow I had THOUGHT it was exactly one year + one day... but I was wrong, since there's the mention of an April departure - and we find out Bilbo and Gandalf are still traveling back in June - so it sounds like it's somewhere around 14 months or so.

I guess my memory is getting foggy - with the advance of age and all...

So - sorry! My apologies to all... shall I banish myself from the trivia contest for awhile? Re-read the book before I play again?

Radagast... do you want the next question? You were in the ballpark anyway.
