Hey! that a tough one. amm. I really don't know. :(

barrelrider110
06-17-2002, 08:35 AM
Yew is the correct answer. Your turn, Agburanar.

Radagast The Brown
06-18-2002, 02:40 PM
I demand a question in the next 14 hours!

Radagast The Brown
06-19-2002, 01:29 PM
what food and drink Balin wanted in Bilbo's house in the beginning of the book?

Radagast The Brown
06-19-2002, 01:31 PM
I'll ask the question:

what food and drink Balin wanted in Bilbo's house in the beginning of the book?

webwizard333
06-22-2002, 01:28 PM
Balin wanted beer and seed-cake.

Radagast The Brown
06-22-2002, 03:57 PM
right. Your turn to ask a question.

webwizard333
06-23-2002, 12:13 PM
What is the first name of Bilbo's mother?

Radagast The Brown
06-23-2002, 02:40 PM
Badellona

webwizard333
06-24-2002, 12:39 PM
Very close, but not quite right.

Jador
06-24-2002, 08:29 PM
It's spelt Belladonna...
Can I av'e a go?

webwizard333
06-24-2002, 09:08 PM
You're right, so you can have a go.

Jador
06-25-2002, 09:51 AM
Cheers!
What is the Goblin capital in the book?

Radagast The Brown
06-27-2002, 04:02 PM
I don't know... I clue please! Maybe the page... :D

SamwiseGamgeeOTS
06-29-2002, 05:04 PM
I didn't even know that the goblin capitol had a name.....geez i'm gonna have to re-read them all again!

Radagast The Brown
06-30-2002, 01:38 PM
ok. I demand a new question now!!!

here it is: what was the wizard's name in the book? :)
now really:
who were the second and third dwarves that came to Bilbo's house in the beginning of the book?

webwizard333
06-30-2002, 02:15 PM
I believe the answer to Jador's question is Mt. Gunabad (I have an old copy of the Hobbit with two fun maps in it).

Radagast The Brown
06-30-2002, 02:26 PM
oh... ok. So there's we don't need my question here... your question webwizard333! :)

webwizard333
06-30-2002, 09:41 PM
Let's just use your question.

Radagast The Brown
07-01-2002, 03:36 PM
ok... so you could answer, right? It's an easy one.

The Ringbearer
07-06-2002, 04:08 AM
Balin, then Fili and Kili arrived at once, but Kili greeted Bilbo first.

Radagast The Brown
07-06-2002, 03:48 PM
You are right! your turn.

The Ringbearer
07-07-2002, 01:34 AM
Who of the dwarves was one of Thorin's nephews?

Radagast The Brown
07-07-2002, 03:23 PM
Fili and Kili. (look at page 12):D

The Ringbearer
07-09-2002, 12:51 AM
I should have known that one was too easy. *beats head on wall* These people DO own the BOOKS you know Ringbearer.......

Correct. :D

Radagast The Brown
07-09-2002, 01:57 PM
Ok. here's my question:

How much time Bilbo was in Rivendel in the end of the story?

Christiana
07-09-2002, 11:43 PM
a week?

Radagast The Brown
07-10-2002, 03:07 PM
yeah, you are right. your turn.

Christiana
07-10-2002, 03:55 PM
how old was Bilbo when he went on the adventure?

Strange-Looking Lurker
07-10-2002, 06:43 PM
50, I think.

Radagast The Brown
07-11-2002, 04:18 PM
you are right.
it was very easy question.

The Ringbearer
07-16-2002, 12:07 AM
Cm' on and post Strange-lopking Lurker !:)

The Ringbearer
07-16-2002, 12:09 AM
Oh fuzzy hobbit feet. That should be Strange-LOOKING Lurker.
Sorry. :)

Strange-Looking Lurker
07-16-2002, 05:49 PM
Who was Bilbo saving when he killed 6 spiders?

webwizard333
07-16-2002, 10:39 PM
Do you want all of the names? If not and just want the general group, it was the 12 dwarves he was travelling with (the fellowship of the Arkenstone).

Strange-Looking Lurker
07-17-2002, 03:40 PM
But there is a certain point were he kills 6 spiders in order to save one of the dwarves. Which one was it?

Radagast The Brown
07-17-2002, 04:51 PM
hey, that's hard. I really don't know. I should read the Hobbit again. :(

Wayfarer
07-17-2002, 06:39 PM
I believe it was bombur.

Yes... Bombur was so tired that he fell off the branch, and when the spiders came back bilbo jumped down and attacked.

ok, my turn:

what have I got in my pocket?

The Ringbearer
07-18-2002, 04:59 AM
Nasssty trickssy Wayfarer!! It'sssss not fair; assking usss what he hasss in hisss nassty pocketssesss.......

*evil glare* Hhhhhiiiiiiiisssssssssssssssssssssss.........

The One Ring? Your hand? Loose change?!

Katt_knome_hobbit
07-18-2002, 08:03 PM
String or nothing!

The Ringbearer
07-19-2002, 05:36 AM
Hey! Whoever moderates this forum! Is this question legal?!

Grrrowwwwwllllll. ;)

Radagast The Brown
07-19-2002, 09:44 AM
it's really not legal - in my opinion - if it's not from the book.
If the answer is the same as in the book it's legal, I think.

Wayfarer
07-19-2002, 03:28 PM
Whether it's legal or not, Katt Knome had the answer I was looking for.

Your shot.

Katt_knome_hobbit
07-19-2002, 03:57 PM
I'll do something easy:

Compleat the rhyme:

That's what Bilbo Baggins hates,

So carefully, carefully with the plates!

Let's see... What is the cue line for the Rivindell elves to appear?

Radagast The Brown
07-20-2002, 05:43 AM
I have no clue. it suppose to be in the rivendel part, right? i'll check it. maybe i'll find it.

Strange-Looking Lurker
07-29-2002, 08:28 PM
Does anybody know CPR? I think this thread is about to die...

Radagast The Brown
07-30-2002, 02:55 PM
we obviesly need new questions... ask one Strange-Looking Lurker.

Willow Oran
07-30-2002, 07:37 PM
It's not that hard of a question. The answer is the last thing Bilbo says before they meet the elves of Rivindell.

The Ringbearer
07-31-2002, 03:03 AM
Is it "Hmmmmmm. It smells like elves!" ?

Katt_knome_hobbit
07-31-2002, 06:04 AM
And I just saw this Sunday! Um...

"It is true we were molested by the elves..."

:D :D :D

Strange-Looking Lurker
08-01-2002, 02:04 PM
Are we supposed to tell you were the quote is from? If so, that's what Thorin said to the Master of Lake town when they first came into the dining hall and the elvish raftsman recognized them.

Willow Oran
08-04-2002, 12:29 AM
It was indeed "Hmmm, smells like elves."

Katt, that is the wrong wording. The quote is "It is true we were WAYLAID by the wood elves." The molested by the woodelves thing was a slip of the tounge comitted by the person playing Thorin in our play.

Katt_knome_hobbit
08-04-2002, 01:43 AM
That was the POINT! It was a JOKE! Honestly! Some people can't take a joke! :D

Willow Oran
08-04-2002, 07:10 PM
Of course I know it was a joke. I just wanted to make sure that people didn't think we actually molested the dwarves. Anyway, this is quite off subject so someone ask a question.

webwizard333
08-04-2002, 09:41 PM
Thank you Willow, I was just about to say something.

How many dwarves of the original expedition survived the
Battle of the 5 Armies, if you count Thorin as one of the casualties)?

Willow Oran
08-04-2002, 10:14 PM
10, Thorin, Fili and Kili died.

gandalf00
08-05-2002, 02:01 AM
why did the old man willow listen to top bombadill
please send me an answer i have needed to know for quite a while

webwizard333
08-05-2002, 09:47 AM
Correct Willow, your turn.

Gandalf-No cutting in the trivia line :p , especially with a LotR question. But the answer is: Tom was able to control Old Man Willow becuase of the power over all things in his land that he has through his music.

Willow Oran
08-05-2002, 02:10 PM
How many times did the dwarves try to enter the feast of the wood elves?

Christiana
08-05-2002, 02:13 PM
er..3?

Willow Oran
08-05-2002, 07:03 PM
Yes, it was three times. Ask a question.

Christiana
08-05-2002, 08:30 PM
ummm...what was the first dwarf that appeared on bilbos doorstep?

The Ringbearer
08-06-2002, 02:33 AM
Dwalin?

Radagast The Brown
08-06-2002, 05:54 AM
yeah, the ringbearer is right, it's Dwalin.

Celandine
08-06-2002, 02:15 PM
yup, what they said:D

The Lady of Ithilien
08-17-2002, 10:18 AM
No! No! Don't say the thread is ended . . . it's too good. Forgive my jumping in here without having answered a question (they were all answered), but here is one for all you other hard-core types: what was the bravest thing Bilbo did in "The Hobbit"?

Khadrane
08-17-2002, 01:13 PM
Um, this is a guess, but was it continuing down Smaug's tunnel?

The Lady of Ithilien
08-17-2002, 08:49 PM
Correct! ". . . A sound, too, began to throb in his ears, a sort of bubbling like the noise of a large pot galloping on the fire, mixed with a rumble as of a gigantic tom-cat purring. This grew to the unmistakable gurgling noise of some vast anmial snoring in its sleep down there in the red glow in front of him. It was at this point that Bilbo stopped. Going on from there was the bravest thing he ever did." And some people call Tolkien's writing "flat."

Your turn, Khadrane (an interesting name, part of which must mean "hard-core" :) ) --

Khadrane
08-18-2002, 03:04 PM
Yipee! I got it right! Let's see... who were the third and fourth dwarves to appear while Gandalf was telling Beorn their story?

And about my name, I made it up after I read The Hobbit and before I read LotR. I used to pretend I was a wizard. Kinda embarassing now...:) I never knew it meant anything.

ladyisme
08-18-2002, 03:14 PM
The 3rd and 4th dwarves were Nori and Ori.

"The road goes ever on and on down from the door where it began."

Khadrane
08-18-2002, 03:40 PM
Yup. Your turn.

ladyisme
08-18-2002, 07:54 PM
Very well then try this one.

In the riddle contest between Bilbo and Gollum, what was the first riddle that Bilbo asked?

"The road goes ever on and on down from the door where it began."

P.S. you get bonus points if you include the riddle's answer. ;)

barrelrider110
08-19-2002, 09:04 AM
Thirty white horses on a red hill,
First they champ,
Then they stamp,
Then they stand still.

Gollums answer: "Chestnuts, Chestnuts!"

barrelrider110
08-19-2002, 04:21 PM
Where is Faerie?

The Lady of Ithilien
08-20-2002, 05:23 PM
Er, that's a tough question to answer without looking it up -- all that one has learned about Numenor, Eressea and Valinor gets in the way. And it was only mentioned very briefly in "The Hobbit," wasn't it?

Just a guess: in the West?

markedel
08-20-2002, 10:24 PM
Its an oblique refernce to Valinor I figure...thoguh I don't whether Valinor as such existed in '37.

barrelrider110
08-21-2002, 08:33 AM
If that was a guess, Lady of Ithilien, it was a darn good one.

The brief reference is to the wood elves, [paraphrase] who unlike the high elves, never journeyed to Fairie in the west.

barrelrider110
08-21-2002, 08:35 AM
Your turn m'lady.

The Lady of Ithilien
08-21-2002, 04:03 PM
Thanks, barrelrider 110! It was indeed a guess, but afterwards I spent an enjoyable couple of hours going back through and trying to find the reference - it wasn't easy. Was surprised to see it was exact . . . it's like a song, I guess: parts of the "lyrics" come back to you now and again.

Anyway, earlier I did just sort of jump in without answering a question and so have only just caught up. The turn passes to the next poster ---

The Lady of Ithilien
08-22-2002, 07:39 PM
Here goes --

We all know about the elephants (Sam's Oliphaunts) in LOTR. Where can one find elephants (at least mention of them) in The Hobbit?

ladyisme
08-23-2002, 11:59 AM
Now that is a good one!!!

barrelrider110
08-23-2002, 12:08 PM
I do remember a reference to elephants, not "oliphants"... elephants. Where it is in the book I havn't a clue. Now where did I put my old copy of TH or a better question is, who "borrowed" it? Hmmm.

barrelrider110
08-23-2002, 03:40 PM
Ah-ha! I found it. :D
Page 1
what is a hobbit? I suppose hobbits need some description nowadays, since they have become rare and shy of the Big People, as they call us. ... There is little or no magic about them, except the ordinary everyday sort which helps them to disappear quietly and quickly when large stupid folk like you and me come blundering along, making a noise like elephants which they can hear a mile off.

What tree is the elves' favourite?

Christiana
08-24-2002, 07:21 PM
beech?

The Lady of Ithilien
08-24-2002, 07:36 PM
Do you know, I missed that first reference to elephants? :o Was looking forward to saying the elephants were, in a manner of speaking, in Bilbo's dining room:

"Great Elephants!" said Gandalf, "you are not at all yourself this monring--you have never dusted the mantelpiece!"

Beeches were the elves favorite trees -- the dwarves heard "disquieting laughter" and singing in the beech section of Mirkwood and it's spelled out in the description of Thranduil's palace (yes, I had to go look :) )

Hmm. OK, name four species of birds who converse with characters in The Hobbit. (Hint: Am not counting Thranduil's informants, as no particular species is mentioned, and also not Beorn's owls, with whom he no doubt could talk, because we never see them hoo-hoo'ing back and forth.)

The Lady of Ithilien
08-24-2002, 07:38 PM
I withdraw the question -- Christiana answered it first, and I missed her post until my own had gone up.

Sorry, Christiana!

Christiana
08-24-2002, 08:26 PM
Thats ok.raven,eagle,thrush,hmm...crow?i cant think of a ?.

The Lady of Ithilien
08-25-2002, 10:31 AM
Crow it is -- Balin commented that they had been calling Bilbo and the dwarves bad names as they explored near The Mountain's front gate. I think that gives you the right to ask two questions, if you want.:)

Agburanar
09-10-2002, 09:59 AM
Nobody's posted for a while and I really like this game so I'm gonna ask a question, if nobody minds...

What was distinctive about Thror and Thrain when Thorin met them after Smaug's coming to the Lonely Mountain? (Particularly their dwarfish traits)

barrelrider110
09-10-2002, 02:48 PM
I don't understand your question.

Radagast The Brown
09-10-2002, 03:38 PM
me too... do you mean what was special about the meeting Thorin, Thror and Thrain?

Rían
09-11-2002, 12:28 AM
Oh, oh, oh - their beards were singed???

(My first post on the Hobbit forum - hi everyone :) )

Agburanar
09-12-2002, 04:07 AM
Absolutely! Your turn.

Rían
09-12-2002, 12:28 PM
WHOOSH! *lets out breath she has been anxiously holding*

I was confused at first, too, then the answer just popped into my head, because I always got kind of a funny picture in my head at that part (angry dwarves with smoking beards) :)

ok - keeping to the same point in time, which of the dwarves in Thorin & co. was also a companion of Thorin at the time that Smaug showed up (and was thus also saved from being burn to a crisp)?

barrelrider110
09-12-2002, 01:49 PM
Balin.

Radagast The Brown
09-12-2002, 01:58 PM
he's right. his turn.

barrelrider110
09-12-2002, 03:01 PM

Rían
09-13-2002, 12:43 AM
I think it's some type of throwing/aiming game, because I have a vague memory of quoits being mentioned where it said Bilbo was good at throwing-type things. Hmm, have to look it up...

Rían
09-13-2002, 12:57 AM
OK - I was right about the throwing/aiming - a game kind of like horseshoes where players throw rings at a peg.

Interestingly, my dictionary says the peg is called either a "hob" or a "tee" - kind of like "hobbit", hey?

OK - on what 3 items did Thorin & co. dine on in the eagles' eyries?

Agburanar
09-13-2002, 05:39 AM
Hmm.

Worms and doughnuts and Ben and Jerry's Ice cream.

Just a guess.

Excellent! Wll done, R*an!:D

Rían
09-13-2002, 02:13 PM
Thanks, Barrelrider110 :D I had to resort to the dictionary to find out just what the game was, but I had the right general idea. Funny about the peg being called a "hob", isn't it!

Agburanar, not quite right about the food  try again ...

barrelrider110
09-13-2002, 02:28 PM
Rabbits, hares, and mutton (or lamb).

Hob? Yes, that is quite a coincidence, if it is.

Rían

Right-o, Barrelrider110! Your go.

What (four) other "quiet games of the aiming, throwing-sort” are mentioned?

Rían
09-14-2002, 02:34 AM
OK - dart-throwing, shooting at the wand, bowls and ninepins.

I only know what the first one is!

I'm too pooped to think of another question, whoever comes next can take my turn:) *zzzzzzzzzz*

Rían
09-14-2002, 09:38 AM
I posted the answer in the post right above yours, Radagast - its dart-throwing, shooting at the wand, bowls and ninepins. I don't know what any of them are but dart-throwing, but Barrelrider110 just asked which ones were mentioned, not how they are played :) . GO ahead and take my turn, if you want, or someone else can if they get back here before you do.

katya

i cant think of any, but come on, someone post a question.

Christiana
09-15-2002, 12:17 PM
okay...which one of the trolls spoke first?

Radagast The Brown
09-15-2002, 01:35 PM
Tom?

katya
09-15-2002, 01:40 PM
or was it bert?

Radagast The Brown
09-15-2002, 02:21 PM
I think it was Tom. It doesn't say who are the first two talkers.

katya
09-15-2002, 02:49 PM
"mutton yesterday...blablabla...tomorrer" said one of the trolls.

"never a blinking...bla...enough" said a second. "what the 'ell william was thinking..." he said jogging at the elbow of william who was taking a pull at his jug.

william choked. "shut yer mouth!" he said..."yer cant expect...bla...and be et by you and bert. and so on"

So, we have no idea who said the first quote looking only at it. then we see the second quote. a second troll talks to the first troll about william. if we assume that the second troll is indeed replying to the first troll, as he seems to be doing, we can see that unless the second troll refers to the first in the third person, the first troll cannot be william. then we have the third quote. this must be william talking, who, as we said, is not the same troll as the first troll. william is talking either to bert or tom, as we know the other troll to be named, because of later developments. we can safely assume that when william talks, he is replying to the comment that was just made by the second troll about him (about william). so, then when he says "you and bert", if he is indeed replying to the second troll, which seems to be the case, "you" is the second troll, and bert is the only one left, the first. so according to this system of logic, the first troll must be bert.

Christiana
09-15-2002, 04:10 PM
Bert it is.ur turn

09-16-2002, 06:42 PM
Actually, I was talking about "missed" as in by the time I got here it was answered. I don't know what "missed" Radagast was talking about though...

But thanks for saying we're cool!:)

katya
09-16-2002, 07:03 PM
oh, duh. well you're still cool. acutally i wondered if that was what you meant. but i know that radagast missed a question no ttha tlong ago so i thought maybe... ok whatever. we need a new question.

Aeryn
09-16-2002, 08:46 PM
Did the person who answered katya's question ever put DOWN a question?

Khadrane
09-16-2002, 09:07 PM
No, but I don't think it's been long enough for someone else to post a question yet.

Aeryn
09-16-2002, 10:06 PM
sarcasm is just one more thing we offer....any way i shall ask a question because I think it is about time.
what did people say was the cause of the took's being strange?

Khadrane
09-16-2002, 10:38 PM
One of them took a fairy wife

Aeryn
09-16-2002, 10:45 PM
tres bon posez votre question.

Khadrane
09-16-2002, 11:11 PM
Which dwarf's long nose helped him to fare better than the other dwarves in a certain predicament? (I'm not going to tell you which predicament, because that would make the answer easy to look up.:) )

Radagast The Brown
09-17-2002, 06:59 AM
Maybe Bombur?

Agburanar
09-17-2002, 10:51 AM
Was is because it stuck out when he was wrapped in spider web so Bilbo could spot him easily? Dunno who, maybe Balin?

katya
09-17-2002, 05:18 PM
i would never have guessed but i just looked it up and fili had the long nose in flies and spiders. is that right?

Aeryn
09-17-2002, 07:40 PM
In the chapter spider's and flies Fili had the longer nose...right?

Khadrane
09-20-2002, 06:26 PM
Looks like two people answered it. Well, Fili is right. I guess it's someone's turn now...(sorry it took me so long to reply. i've been busy.)

Radagast The Brown
09-21-2002, 07:27 AM
I think the first one who answers right should post a question. I guess it suppose to be katya.

katya
09-21-2002, 12:18 PM
sorry i took so long. i just wanted to make sure it was right then i kind of didnt get back here. i can't think of any questions...

where was bilbo on his birthday that he forgot about? (which by the way tomorrow is september 22. not quite the same september 22, but september 22 all the same. i am having a party. :) )

Radagast The Brown
09-21-2002, 03:35 PM
what do you mean? (if he gogot a birthday when he was little?) if you mean about the one he forgot in the the book (and that could be) I think (and not sure at all) it is the birthday after the "Erebor Jorney" (or trip or whatever)

katya
09-21-2002, 03:55 PM
ok sorry if that was unclear. i meant (if i remember correctly) that in the book sometime in there is bilbo's birthday. he forgets that it is his birthday, but remembers it later. i had meant to go back and look up when that was because i am not sure at all but i think maybe it was in laketown? i will look it up. sorry. i couldn't think of anything else.

Radagast The Brown
09-21-2002, 04:05 PM
So, you think you gave us the answer....:( that not good. I think of a new question. it should be from you.

katya
09-21-2002, 04:08 PM
ack! *slaps herself as she realizes stupid mistake* i am feeling a little disfunctional today. you think of a question. forget mine. so sorry.

Radagast The Brown
09-22-2002, 03:59 PM
I found the answer and you were right, though it was your question.

to find a question? amm...how many meanings have bilbo's "good morning" in the beginning of the book?

webwizard333
09-22-2002, 06:22 PM
Off the top of my head, I'll guess three possible meanings.

Radagast The Brown
09-23-2002, 02:21 PM
nope. you're wrong.

Khadrane
09-23-2002, 05:58 PM
Is it five?????????????

Radagast The Brown
09-27-2002, 09:07 AM
no, not five

Christiana
09-27-2002, 07:18 PM
Four?

Khadrane
09-27-2002, 09:11 PM
Well, there's "wishing me a good morning", "it's a good morning whether I like it or not", "that you feel good this morning", "a morning to be good on", and "it won't be good till I leave" and one or two more that I'm forgetting. Anybody got any ideas????

Radagast The Brown
09-28-2002, 02:47 PM
well, let see...

*chack in the book again*

ooh... I missed one. your turn Khadrane.

Khadrane
09-28-2002, 07:01 PM
YAY!!!!! Well, I really don't feel like asking a question. Someone can ask one for me.:)

Khadrane
09-29-2002, 02:56 PM
Never mind. I thought of a question. What color(s) was the thrush that was cracking stones on the rock?

Radagast The Brown
09-29-2002, 02:56 PM
 I erased this post from personal problems

Khadrane
09-29-2002, 03:15 PM
Oops. Guess we asked the question at the same time. Well, your question can stand, Radagast.:)

Radagast The Brown
09-29-2002, 03:24 PM
neh, I'll earase mine... :(

But I'll guess your question: blue?

Khadrane
09-29-2002, 06:02 PM
Okay. Thanks.:) No. The answer isn't blue.:)

Christiana
09-29-2002, 06:20 PM
gray?

Khadrane
09-29-2002, 06:23 PM
Nope.:)

Millane
09-30-2002, 03:54 AM
i had to ask me dad for this one and he said black and yellow...

Khadrane
09-30-2002, 06:17 PM
Yup. Your turn. (although it SHOULD be your dad's turn...;) )

Millane
09-30-2002, 10:18 PM
yeah should be but... me mam had no idea she thought purple for some reason

Khadrane
09-30-2002, 10:44 PM
hmm... *looks it up* Is it four????

Millane
09-30-2002, 10:50 PM

Lizra
10-02-2002, 03:18 PM
Insect eyes

Khadrane
10-02-2002, 04:42 PM
Yep. Your turn.

Lizra
10-02-2002, 05:26 PM
How many dwarves agreed on the direction toward the path, in their last effort to get back on the path, before being captured by the wood elves?

Khadrane
10-02-2002, 06:02 PM
Is it eight?

Lizra
10-02-2002, 10:17 PM
Yes! Eight out of thirteen agreed on the direction they chose. I suppose it really didn't matter, did it! Ask away, Khadrane.

Radagast The Brown
10-04-2002, 03:43 PM
Khadrane? two days with out a question I see. post a question you need. thank you. :p

Khadrane
10-05-2002, 01:02 PM
Sorry! I haven't had time to get on the internet recently.:o

Okay, how far away was the boat from the dwarves in the river in Mirkwood?

P.S. If I take that long to ask a question again, someone can take my turn for me.:)

Radagast The Brown
10-05-2002, 03:26 PM
I'll have to check in the book... *looking in the book, sadly* 15 soomething I don't know to translate... feet? :o

Khadrane
10-05-2002, 04:37 PM
Well, not in my book.

Lizra
10-05-2002, 05:33 PM
12 yards!

Khadrane
10-05-2002, 06:54 PM
Yup. Your turn.

Lizra
10-05-2002, 09:28 PM
What was that extra delicious wine called, the vintage that whacked the Wood Elves guard and butler in record time?

Radagast The Brown
10-06-2002, 06:25 AM
Dorwinion?

Lizra
10-06-2002, 12:12 PM
yes...bring me a bottle! :) Cheers to everyone! OK, it's me and you buddy! Give a good clue! (before I pass out)

Radagast The Brown
10-06-2002, 02:06 PM
how many guesses did Golum had to answer the last riddle of bilbo?

Lizra
10-06-2002, 04:12 PM
three

Millane
10-07-2002, 06:35 AM
nah i think it is 4 technically... it dpends on how you meant that question i you meant how many did bilbo give gollum it is 3 but if you mean how many did he take its 4

Radagast The Brown
10-07-2002, 07:14 AM
Lizra is right and you too, but you posted later, so it's Lizra's turn.

Lizra
10-07-2002, 08:03 AM
ok! So, when is Durin's day?

Agburanar
10-07-2002, 03:00 PM
OK. I take back my answer as for some reason I answered a question set a while ago. I hate it when that happens....

Durin's day was the first day of the dwarf year, but can't remember the actual date. Which calendar do you want it in?

Lizra
10-07-2002, 03:15 PM
Well, the dwarf calendar I guess. :) I'm not looking for a numerical date, just a description!

Radagast The Brown
10-07-2002, 04:26 PM
Is it right Lizra?

Lizra
10-07-2002, 04:38 PM
Oh yes! Very right indeed, the first day of the Dwarves New Year. (sorry!) The description is given by Thorin, when Elrond is reading the silver moonletters on midsummers eve, from Thorins map.

"The first day of the last moon of Autumn, on the threshold of Winter. It is called Durin's Day when the last moon of Autumn and the sun are in the sky together." (Durin's Day should be coming up soon here! :) )

Agburanar
10-08-2002, 07:20 AM
Okay then. Let's try this....

How high and how far did Bilbo have to jump to get past Gollum in Goblin-town?

I heard this on the tape of the Hobbit and hadn't noticed it in the books, but I don't think they'd have made it up.

Lizra
10-08-2002, 08:42 AM
Bilbo jumped seven feet forward, and three in the air!

Agburanar
10-08-2002, 10:13 AM
Indeed he did. Quite a respectable distance for a hobbit.

Okay, your turn.

Lizra
10-08-2002, 11:29 AM
Hobbit adrenalin must be pretty potent stuff!

What smell did Fili never want to smell again? (This is too easy, I'm sure :) )

Radagast The Brown
10-08-2002, 04:25 PM
The dragon's smell?

Lizra
10-08-2002, 04:45 PM
No...that's not it!

crickhollow
10-08-2002, 04:54 PM
I know! I know! Apples!

Lizra
10-08-2002, 04:59 PM
Yes!! That wretched barrel smelled like apples, and he never wanted to smell them again. Your turn Crickhollow!

crickhollow
10-08-2002, 05:16 PM
I'm not sure if this has been done before...if it has, some one else can post a question:

[Edit: perhaps I should rephrase the question]

Upon first meeting, Gloin the dwarf said Bilbo looked more like a ______ than a hobbit.

Agburanar
10-09-2002, 11:15 AM
Doughnut. He could, OK so he didn't, but he could have!!!

(Happy Birthday to meeeeeee!)

katya
10-09-2002, 04:38 PM
he says he looks more like a grocer than a burglar but that's not quite the same?...

Happy birthday!!!!!!

Agburanar
10-10-2002, 05:04 AM
Cheers!

Sounds about right to me, what about it Crickhollow?

Radagast The Brown
10-10-2002, 08:20 AM
Happy Birthday!!! :D I think you could ask aquestion, I'm not sure though.

crickhollow
10-10-2002, 02:46 PM
yes, Katya, that's right. fire away!

katya
10-10-2002, 03:38 PM
ok what does the great goblin say he will prepare if the truth is not told? something particularly...what?

Goldberry1
10-10-2002, 09:52 PM
I'm not sure if this is what you mean by what he would prepare for them but I think it's something like he'll throw them into holes filled with snakes. That's the only thing I can think of!

Lizra
10-10-2002, 11:35 PM
well, he says he will prepare something particularly uncomfortable for them. (Slash them! Beat them! Bite them! Gnash them!....then comes the the daek holes full of snakes!)

katya
10-11-2002, 12:54 PM
lizra got it. i like that line. i just heard it on my bbc tapes. it sounds funny. uncomfortable... yeah that's scary...which it is but there are worse things than discomfort. anyway your turn lizra

Lizra
10-11-2002, 02:55 PM
Ok....Describe the sound that Smaug made. Not when he was talking, but his "dragon" noise. :)

Radagast The Brown
10-11-2002, 05:25 PM
you mean, when he was sleeping? if yes, then: a monotonous roaring

Lizra
10-11-2002, 06:46 PM
Well....It's described in a more colorful manner, I'm thinking of the first time Bilbo sees Smaug. I don't think the word "monotonous" is used for this initial sleeping dragon sound description.

Radagast The Brown
10-12-2002, 04:15 PM
I think it is. according my book, at least. he says that his voise was monotonous roaring got out of his mandibles/jaws and nostrils.

Lizra
10-12-2002, 04:32 PM
That's probably another description from the one I'm looking at. Mine is the first time Bilbo sees Smuag.

"A sound, too, began to throb in his ears, a sort of bubbling like the noise of a large pot galloping on the fire, mixed with a rumble as of a gigantic tom-cat purring."

I like that! So now what?

Radagast The Brown
10-12-2002, 04:43 PM
You took the second time Bilbo saw the dragon. I took the first time, when he just took the goblet out to the dwrves.

I don't know what we shall do.

Lizra
10-12-2002, 08:06 PM
Oh I know what to do!! Youth before beauty! (ha ha :) ) You pick Radagast, I guess I had my times off on that one.

Radagast The Brown
10-13-2002, 07:18 AM
ok...

what color does Bilbo's door (in his house) have?

webwizard333
10-13-2002, 10:02 AM
Green.

Radagast The Brown
10-13-2002, 04:20 PM
Righto. Your turn.

webwizard333
10-15-2002, 08:25 PM
List all the different ways the three trolls proposed to eat the dwarves.

Lizra
10-15-2002, 10:29 PM
Well, it will probably make me hungry....roast them slowly, or mince them fine and boil them, or sit on them and squash them into jelly. (this is a new cooking technique!) :)

Radagast The Brown
10-16-2002, 03:57 PM
You are right, although it's not my quesiotn, I let you ask a new one.

Lizra
10-16-2002, 06:21 PM
Ok! Is it your thread then! :D I hope webwizard333 doesn't get mad. So...describe the cup of Thror.

webwizard333
10-16-2002, 10:02 PM
I hope webwizard333 doesn't get mad.
Somehow I doubt he will. ;) After all, you did give the correct answer.

Lizra
10-16-2002, 10:53 PM
In the movie, it sounds like Bilbo says "squash them into chili" when he's telling the story to the children. For some reason, this makes more sense!

Agburanar
10-17-2002, 09:35 AM
Lurtz says in the LotR mocie "Find my half legs". Irrelevant but very funny.

Lizra
10-17-2002, 12:29 PM
Good one! LOL :)

Radagast The Brown
10-18-2002, 04:27 PM
What happened here?

Lizra
10-18-2002, 04:36 PM
Well, I 'm waiting for an answer!! Obviously, no one can describe the Cup of Thror!

Radagast The Brown
10-18-2002, 05:06 PM
oh, that. I thought someone answered it. I didn't find it, so I gave up.

Lizra
10-18-2002, 05:21 PM
Gave up!! What a wimp!! :D Come on good buddy, It's in the book!!!! :)

Radagast The Brown
10-18-2002, 05:26 PM
easy to say, hard to do. Ah!!! ok, I'll look for it.

*looking for it*

Found it!!! it was a cup with too hands, that had pictures of flowers and birds, and on them gems.

Lizra
10-18-2002, 07:28 PM
Yea!!! Righto Radagast, I'd like to sip my miruvor from that! Your turn. :)

Radagast The Brown
10-19-2002, 10:48 AM
what's petem?

Lizra
10-19-2002, 11:55 AM
Petem!!!! Aaacckk!!, I've never heard of it! Oh my....

Lizra
10-19-2002, 06:59 PM
Somebody needs to help me out here! Or is Radagast crazy?? ;)

azalea
10-19-2002, 07:07 PM
Hmm that's a good question. It seems to ring a bell, but my Hobbit is packed so I can't check! Is it something to eat? Or maybe a substance used to make something with?

Radagast The Brown
10-20-2002, 07:23 AM
it's something you eat.

Radagast The Brown
10-22-2002, 08:15 AM
It is something you eat!!! what's more easy then to find it!!!

hint: it's for long journies, and it's not tasty after you eat it long time without anything else.

The Lady of Ithilien
10-22-2002, 10:30 AM
Is it cram?

Radagast The Brown
10-22-2002, 04:06 PM
depends: what's a cram?

Radagast The Brown
10-23-2002, 03:21 PM
I see no one knows the answer, so I'll ask a new question:

who asked the first question in the riddle contest between Bilbo and Gollum? (hope you understand what's "riddle contest" )

The Lady of Ithilien
10-23-2002, 04:32 PM
I'll let Bilbo answer that:If you want to know what cram is, I can only say that I don't know the recipe; but it is biscuitish, keeps good indefinitely, is supposed to be sustaining, and is certainly not entertaining, being in fact very uninteresting except as a chewing exercise. It was made by the Lake-men for long journeys.

As to the second question, Gollum asked first, at Bilbo's invitation. (I peeked.)

Radagast The Brown
10-25-2002, 03:20 PM
the two answers are right. :D your turn.
