Sorry I took so long, I even had the High King of Annuminas rebuke me for it. ;) Won't happen again next time.

"Dazzlingly (?) marvellous! /_e_f_c_!/F_a_l_s_! Staggering! Well I really must not detain your Magnificence any longer or keep you from much needed rest. Ponies take some catching, I believe, after a long /s_a_t. And so do burglers."

Hey... what can I say? The King rules! :D ;) I was gentle enough about it though, wasn't I?

Missing word: 'start'?

Okay. I've quit the General Messages forum (Iraq) anyway. Some participants there are just too nasty and condescending (even swearing) there. It's most unpleasant.Yeah, some people don't read the warnings that are posted. I forsee that thread getting closed.

Thanks for comments above. I realize being a moderator can be a bit like being on recess duty for fourth graders (which we had to do in Phila. before we got a strong union).:DActually, Val is one of the sane contributors (although I don't think he's come over from the (Republican Party) dark side.

But how about the quote above? One word! As for the speaker, I'll give a hint: it's _ilbo Baggins.

Well... I've always said I 'peaked' in 4th grade... so maybe I wasn't much trouble to supervise at recess either! :D

Did you see where I guessed 'start' a few posts up? The one where I start by quoting Earniel... :) (and someone already said 'Bilbo')

And... I always thought you were trying to get me to come over to the 'Dark Side'! ;) :p

Or, if not, perhaps anyone could put up a quote.

Good solve on the quote itself, SGH - but Count Comfect is right about the speaker. It's Frodo. It's from before Merry joined them... when the other three were making their way across th Shire.

Only correction - it's "unto", not "until".

Yes, it's about Theoden, but the speaker IS named, and it's not Eomer or Aragorn. However, Tuor is close enough - it's Gleowine, Theoden's minstrel, "and he made no other song after".

So I think it would be Tuor's go :)

Somebody want to look it up so we can move on? (that's totally legit to check an answer B3) The more I think about it, Faramir is probably right, so you probably got it by supplying the last portion, Beren. Why don't you check it, and if it's not correct, tell us which part is wrong so someone else can guess... and if it IS right, go ahead and post (or me post if it's Beregond). Here is what we have:

"Your oaths of faith to me you may break, but I must hold my /_o_d./ Yet if there be any on whom the shadow of our curse has not yet fallen, I should find at least a few
to follow me, and should not go hence as a beggar that is thrust from the gates."

but Valandil already solved the other word, hasn't he?
It's: "I must hold my word"

Is Maedhros the speaker, then?

Valandil

'hold my bond'?

(EDIT: and is this a 'Finrod' quote?)

Sister Golden Hair

Bravo Valandil. It always seems like the Finrod stuff is hard, but not for me.:D Your go Valandil.

Beren3000- Feanor indeed! Shame, shame.:D

Since Beren just gave me one, I'll offer this to him. If he can't do it, I'll open the floor... and if nobody has posted yet when I'm next able, I'll go ahead and do it then. But that'll be several hours and you folks can have lots of fun.

SGH... don't take this wrong, but I've just learned that when you post a quote, it's very often a Finrod quote! :D

SGH... don't take this wrong, but I've just learned that when you post a quote, it's very often a Finrod quote:eek: That's just not true. Is it?:o :D Ha! Actually it can't be true, cause there aren't that many Finrod quotes that exist.:p ;)

"And that, Frodo, is the end of my account. May Elrond and the others forgive the length of it. But such a thing has not happened before, that Gandalf broke (tryst?) and did not more than he promised.
An account to the Ring-bearer of so strange an event was required, I think."

Speaker is Gandalf

Valandil

'tryst' IS correct! (very good - I thought that would trip people up)

'more than' is not correct though... otherwise, I believe you're all good.

I see. It's "come when he promised", right? If it's correct, I give up my right to the next post.

You're correct, but you can't keep doin' that! ;)

btw - the easiest way to post a quote is actually to type out the whole thing, but with the '/' instead of a space... then go back through and delete every other letter. It sounds like you're doing twice the work, but it's actually twice as fast... and easier to keep from making mistakes. :)

Give it a try that way, B3000, it works well.
