It's quite a normal word, though we don't usually use it in the context in which it is used in this quote. Do you use a particular methodology when you get stumped? Sometimes I try inserting a letter in a blank - starting with 'a' and just going through the alphabet - and seeing if a word jumps out at me. I'll try it with the first blank, and I might try it with a later blank.

Curufin - you can see it in the first post of the thread, but it might be easy to miss. Unfinished Tales IS acceptable. We haven't allowed quotes from HoME. Children of Hurin was not part of what we included - but it's relatively new (and an easier read than HoME :D ). Most of the quotes there would probably be found in The Sil or UT. But since we're near 1000 posts, we could give it a try when we start the new game... what do the rest of you think?

We could, you know, use two categories in the next game: a basic one with Hobbit, LoTR and the Silmarillion, and an difficult one with UT, Children of Húrin and HoME. Whoever posts the quote could just put 'basic' or 'difficult' above the quote. You get an inkling then which group of books the quote is from, but it would be fairer for people who haven't read the second group of books to know which quote they can tackle.

The new quote is coming up tomorrow. Too late too think straight now. ;)

EDIT: Maybe I should just start the quote in a new thread, since we've nearly reached the 1000 replies anyway...

I like that idea, Eärniel. And there's no reason that people who haven't read it couldn't guess it. They could simply figure out the words and phrases, and if you've read the Silmarillion and the Unfinished Tales they should know most of the characters anyway.
