Galadriel?
Valandil
08-07-2007, 08:42 AM
Sorry CC, I think I'd just gotten it. But glad to see you're playing... :)

Don't be alarmed! I mean just this: I will tell you what I know, and give you some good advice - but I shall want a reward.
Midge
08-07-2007, 02:57 PM
Ooh, oof! (I guess that was me just e-running-into-a-table or something... I didn't mean the f. I meant another h)...
Strider.
Valandil
08-07-2007, 11:20 PM
Both all correct. Musta been an easy one!
Your turn, Midge. :)

"Take your sword and bear it unto good fortune!"
Speaker: ?? Hama??
Midge
08-09-2007, 07:58 PM
Yes on the quote... No on the speaker.
Valandil
08-09-2007, 09:19 PM
Thingol?
Midge
08-10-2007, 01:02 AM
Nope.
Count Comfect
08-10-2007, 02:43 AM
Gandalf?
Midge
08-10-2007, 05:07 PM
No...
Valandil
08-10-2007, 08:43 PM
Eowyn?
Midge
08-11-2007, 09:44 AM
Still no... You're sort of skirting around the answer though, Val. It is almost funny.
Valandil
08-11-2007, 09:54 AM
Eomer?
* trying to remember who handed Theoden his sword... though I did briefly wonder if this was said to Beleg *
EDIT: Or else someone of the Rohirrim said it to Aragorn, either on returning his sword to him from the doors to Meduseld, or when he was leaving Dunharrow... that was another possibility I thought of.
PS: Hey Midge - next time you have to tell someone you're a girl, just say "no living man am I!" - or else the cinematic, "I am no man!" :D ;)
Midge
08-13-2007, 12:31 AM
Haha... Nice. I didn't even think of that.
You are really skating around the answer. I can't help but laugh. No, not Eomer.
Midge
08-13-2007, 03:28 PM
Hint to get you off the wrong track:
It wasn't said to Theoden.
Valandil
08-13-2007, 09:55 PM
Did Theoden say it then? :p
Midge
08-14-2007, 03:30 PM
Haha! Yes!
Can you see why it was funny?
Valandil
08-16-2007, 08:07 AM
Haha! Yes!
Can you see why it was funny?
Um... yes... :o
:D :p
Hey - sorry I'm slow getting up the next quote. I'll try for this evening though. :)
Midge
08-16-2007, 08:28 PM
Sorry. didn't mean to sound like I was making fun of you. It was sorta like I was in on a joke you weren't... Sorry.
Valandil
08-16-2007, 11:29 PM
Don't worry - I'm not so easily hurt. I was just putting on a pouty face to get a little attention. :D
"A_/l_s_/I/_n_e_s_a_d/_h_/w_/h_v_/w_i_e_/!

08-17-2007, 12:50 PM
"At last I understand why we have waited!
This is the ending. Now not day only shall be blessed,
but night too shall be beautiful and blessed and all its fear pass away!"
Valandil
08-17-2007, 10:08 PM
Quote is correct except for the first "blessed"
And, of course... we need the speaker! :)
Midge
08-18-2007, 12:25 AM
I don't know why I stuck blessed in there the first time.
Way to go, me.
For the record, don't go off my blessed. It wasn't even the right letters. Here is the right word: /_e_o_e_/.
I have a guess... but I'll let others go at it for a while. I think I've had my share for a bit. If no one guesses for a while, though... like, two or three days, then I'll guess again.
Midge
08-21-2007, 01:02 PM
All right... fine... and me starting college and everything too!
Beloved and Frodo.
Valandil
08-21-2007, 08:56 PM
Gotcha! You're correct on both! :p
Starting college - eh? Sounds great. Can you say where? :)
A few years ago, a friend who was a college freshman at the time recounted what she was told at Freshmen Orientation:
"In college, there are three things to do: study, have fun and sleep...
The problem is, you will only have time for two of them." ;) :D
Count Comfect
08-22-2007, 03:23 PM
That's why most of us skip sleep.
Midge
08-23-2007, 08:36 PM
I'll probably end up skipping studying... And if you don't mind, I will keep my college undisclosed. Just in case I'm being stalked... don't want to feed the fire, you know.
OH! And I get the quote...
"C_r_a_n_y/;/_e/_r_/t_o/_r_a_/a/_u_d_n/_o_/o_e/./"
Valandil
08-24-2007, 11:58 PM
Foiled again! :p ;)
OK - on to the quote:
"Certainly; we are two /_r_a_/ a /_u_d_n/ not one."
?? Not a lot to go on there...
Midge
08-25-2007, 12:33 AM
All right except for "two" and "not". And it was the entire quote.
What do you mean "foiled again"??? =P
*I am so used to you all getting these right the first time that I was surprised to find two words that were incorrect! Wow...
Valandil
08-25-2007, 12:47 AM
:
:
What do you mean "foiled again"??? =P
:
:
That "stalking" thing. ;)
"Certainly; we are too great a burden for one."
Oh - I struggle at times... Lately, I've really been at a loss for speakers - and it's happening again, even if I got the quote right. :(
Midge
08-25-2007, 02:13 AM
haha... stalking. Never had that problem... specifically... now come to think of it.. NOT that I am complaining...
The quote is correct. Need a hint on the speaker? I'll have to think of one...
Maybe it will help if you think, for what are "we" too great a burden for only "one"? That might give you a clue.
Valandil
08-25-2007, 08:12 AM
There are a few choices that come to mind...
Gimli?
Midge
08-25-2007, 07:30 PM
Nope. Not the Dwarf.
Valandil
08-25-2007, 11:25 PM
The Elf... wassisname... Legolas?
Midge
08-26-2007, 08:22 PM
Let's see, were you a little tired as you typed this? No, it weren't Legolas...
Midge
08-29-2007, 06:05 PM
All right, I will see if a hint can be found. Hold on whilst I think.
Midge
08-29-2007, 06:16 PM
Okay. Well, it's almost difficult to think of a hint, because anything I say would give it away... but here's this... I know the scene you were thinking of when you asked Legolas and Gimly... I just misspelled that.. Gimli... but it wasn't then, only a bit later. That scene introduced the speaker, through a very sinister light.
Oh, and the "one" was correct, if we are thinking of the same scene... with the Eored?
Valandil
08-29-2007, 10:02 PM
Merry, Merry, quite contrary?
Midge
08-29-2007, 10:28 PM
No... Apparently my hint wasn't as cool as I thought.
But... it was a main character.... like Merry, Legolas, and Gimli...
Count Comfect
08-30-2007, 12:30 AM
Mr. Gandalf the White, referring to the need for horses besides Shadowfax?
Valandil
08-30-2007, 08:06 AM
Oh wait... Aragorn? To Gandalf?
Midge
08-30-2007, 05:46 PM
It was indeed Mr. Gandalf the White... Your go, Mr. Count.
Count Comfect
08-30-2007, 07:48 PM

Speaker: Gandalf?
No - wait... THORIN! :p
Count Comfect
08-31-2007, 04:30 PM
Well, lookee here Val is right! Your go.

Cabbages and potatoes are better for me and you.
Don't go getting mixed up in the _u_i_e_s of ...
or you'll...
The Gaffer?
Valandil
09-01-2007, 12:26 AM
All correct so far! :)
Midge
09-01-2007, 12:37 AM
the business of your betters,

09-01-2007, 12:45 AM
Correct completion, Midge - your turn! :)
Midge
09-01-2007, 12:54 AM

"Some would think this head dearly bought!
At least we have given our /_i_g_o_/ for it.
Will you come with me back to the anvil?
Or will you beg your bread at /_p_n/ doors?"
Thrain? (to Thorin, his son)
For that last unsolved word, "open" fits - but it seems like the quote doesn't say that...
Elemmírë
09-01-2007, 05:05 PM
The other remaining word looks like kingdom.
Valandil
09-01-2007, 06:17 PM
LM! Great to see you! :)
And I think you're probably right about 'kingdom'!
Earniel
09-01-2007, 06:25 PM
I thought I remembered the quote with 'proud doors' but clearly that doesn't fit.
Midge
09-02-2007, 09:27 PM
Yeah, sorry... don't know what I was doing when I posted this quote.. but the missing word is not "_p_n". It's "_r_u_"... which is really cool, because Earniel got the word without the prompt... so there you go! Your turn, Earniel...
In my copy, there's not even a word around "proud" with which I could have mixed it up.... no "open", no "upon", nothing... hm.
Valandil
09-02-2007, 09:32 PM
You were probably thinking of a word you associate with "doors" - and took your eyes off the text for a minute. No problem - we've likely all done that, or something like it now and again.
Anyway... it'll be good to have the fair Elf maiden of Nin in Eilph post a quote once more. :)
Earniel
09-03-2007, 04:59 AM
Eh, look at that. The memory served me right for once.
Better not make any mistake myself, then. ;)

"So I thought. For I followed a sudden spring of water in the hills,
until it joined this treacherous stream.
But now I know not whither to turn, for it has gone into darkness."
Speaker: Not sure... I don't recognize this offhand.
Aragorn?
Earniel
09-03-2007, 01:05 PM
That was fast! The quote's correct, but the speaker isn't Aragorn.
Valandil
09-03-2007, 01:20 PM
* tries to think of who followed a 'treacherous stream' *
Oh... Tuor?
Earniel
09-03-2007, 01:27 PM

Valandil
09-04-2007, 07:36 AM
All your words are correct except "would"
I saw that I accidentally omitted a short word - two words before "Queen" - fortunately, it has an even number of letters, so I'll insert it now. This is where we stand:
"But/_i_s_/I will/_l_a_/t_i_/e_c_s_/. Had I seen her in/_t_e_/c_m_a_y/,
I would have/_a_d/all that you /_o_l_/ wish. But/_o_/I/_i_l/_u_/Queen/_r_e_/E_e_s_a_/f_r_t/,
/and I am/_e_d_/to do battle on my own/_a_t/_i_h/_n_/w_o/_e_y/_e/.

Earniel
09-04-2007, 02:18 PM
"But/_i_s_/I will/_l_a_/t_i_/e_c_s_/. Had I seen her in/_t_e_/company, I would have paid all that you could wish. But now I/_i_l/our Queen Arwen Evenstar/f_r_t/, and I am ready to do battle on my own/_a_t/with any who/_e_y/_e/. Shall I call for my sword?"
Éomer to Gimli.
Valandil
09-04-2007, 08:38 PM
You're right about the speaker.
Wrong words: 'paid' & 'our'
Midge
09-05-2007, 05:36 PM
"But first I will/_l_a_/this/e_c_s_/. Had I seen her in other company, I would have said all that you could wish. But now I will put Queen Arwen Evenstar first, and I am ready to do battle on my own/_a_t/with any who deny me. Shall I call for my sword?"

All your added words are correct, Midge. Three needed to solve! :)
Midge

part?
Count Comfect
09-06-2007, 12:50 AM
excess?
Valandil
09-06-2007, 06:52 AM
"part" is correct, "excess" is not :)
Midge
09-06-2007, 12:19 PM
plead?
excuse?
Valandil
09-06-2007, 11:07 PM
Correct on both, Midge - your turn! :)
Midge
09-07-2007, 03:22 PM
oh, wow. don't have my book with me... wait a couple of hours, okay?
Midge
09-08-2007, 01:01 AM
Oh... woops.. my turn... Let me go get my book. Those "couple of hours" turned into like, eight. Hold on.

All right so far...
keep going!
Earniel
09-10-2007, 04:53 AM
'draw from'
Absolutely no clue about the speaker.
Valandil
09-10-2007, 07:08 AM
I'm with Earniel about the speaker... no clue! Midge, do YOU have a "clue" about the speaker? Or shall we just start guessing?
Midge
09-11-2007, 06:12 PM
Well, first of all, the quote is completed. Secondly, a little guessing never hurt anyone, come on guys!
However, I will help you. It was a man.
Haha... that was a joke. There are only like, four or five women next to fifty bajillion guys. So I will broaden my "clue"...
Who ranges far and wide,
Meeting magic and short folk
He becomes like one wise;
Devotion is what he provokes.
Whose family is near his heart;
They are whom he loves,
From he, they all keep apart.
Yet he does what they say... sort of.
There... have fun deciphering that riddle.
Valandil
09-12-2007, 12:33 AM
Faramir?
Midge
09-12-2007, 12:14 PM
Yes! Did you like my riddle??? I'd been wanting to do that for a while, but people like Gandalf or Aragorn just are too easy to guess with that kind of thing...
Valandil
09-13-2007, 07:37 AM
Yes - VERY nice riddle! I forget, did you play the riddling game much?
I'll post something tonight (USA time) - gotta run off to work soon.

Yay for not failing exams in college!!!
"Many are the... of the ...
and help oft shall come from the hands of the weak
when the time..."
Valandil
09-14-2007, 08:04 AM
Midge - "time" was not correct - the other words were
Midge
09-14-2007, 11:51 PM
strange
No, I didn't play too much riddling... I guess I am just a natural, like a hobbit!!!
Valandil
09-15-2007, 06:52 AM
If you're guessing "strange", that's correct.
If you're calling ME strange, that's even more so! :p
Midge
09-15-2007, 10:12 AM
Okay. I had more. I had guessed "strange changes of the world" but maybe I didn't post it... I was very tired at nearly one o'clock last night.
As a matter of fact, I was guessing strange... However, I don't really feel like I am able to judge whether you really are as strange as you say you are, so I'll take your word for it, okay?
Midge
09-15-2007, 07:33 PM
This is weird.
Valandil
09-16-2007, 07:05 AM
What's weird? Did something else happen?
"changes" is not correct. So we're at:
"Many are the strange /_h_n_e_/ of the world,
and help oft shall come from the hands of the weak
when the /_i_e/_a_t_r."
So - we need three words and speaker. :)
Count Comfect
09-16-2007, 05:56 PM
falter?
Midge
09-16-2007, 06:16 PM
Well, I had posted "strange changes" at night and the next morning when I checked, it hadn't posted it yet. then I posted "That's weird" and both showed up. So I just left "That's weird" because I didn't want to bother with deleting the post (if that's even possible).
Chances... wise?
Valandil
09-16-2007, 08:01 PM
'chances', 'wise' and 'falter' are all correct - so we only need the speaker. :)
Midge
09-16-2007, 11:46 PM
It doesn't sound like anything from LOTR or the Hobbit, so I am lost (if you haven't noticed, I am not very well versed in anything other than those books)...
Unless it's Gandalf talking about how the Hobbits helped when none of the big cool people could get the job of destroying the Ring done.
Valandil
09-17-2007, 07:32 AM
You're pretty much right all around - it's not in The Hobbit or LOTR, it's in "Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age" from The Silmarillion. And... it IS Gandalf - only he's speaking prophetically to Elrond about what might happen, rather than what just happened.
Your turn Midge. :)
Midge
09-17-2007, 12:07 PM
Whoa... dang it. I do not currently have access to a book... so give me til later, oh, seven hours or so, and I iwll post. =)
Midge
09-17-2007, 11:24 PM
Okay... my turn.

only well, I don't think I'll say anymore."
Sam?
Midge
09-18-2007, 05:19 PM
No, not Sam.
Valandil
09-18-2007, 11:57 PM
Frodo?
Serenoli
09-20-2007, 04:38 AM

ANd she should then not drive true? Surely you don't *something* the *something* because you had a hand bringing about yourself? You don't really suppose, do you, that all your *something* and escapes here *something* be port luck, just for your mote *something*?
That makes no sense whatsoever, but I have to leave for class soon!!! AHHH

Midge
09-24-2007, 04:47 PM
I'm gonna make a correction to something I said earlier...
"who then should not PROVE true" "had a hand in bringing them about yourself"... don't know how I missed those two words earlier. Hmmm...
Valandil
09-24-2007, 11:13 PM
"And why should they not prove true?
Surely you don't disbelieve the prophecies
because you had a hand in bringing them about yourself?
You don't really suppose, do you, that all your adventures
and escapes were managed by pure luck, just for your sole benefit?"
Gandalf?
Sheesh, Serenoli... that's TOUGH without the slashes! /// :p
Serenoli
09-29-2007, 01:16 PM
Ah, you're right, Valandil. :) And also Midge and Earniel helped. I totally forgot I was supposed to put slashes... but its an easy quote, anyway, the last few lines of the Hobbit, and anything that makes it slightly tough must be good, eh?
Your turn, Val.

"None here can do so. At least none can foretell what will come to pass, if we take this road or that. But it seems to me now clear which is the road that we must take. The westward road seems easiest. Therefore it must be shunned. It will be watched. For often the Elves have fled that way. Now at this last? we must take a hard road, a road (unforeseen?). There lies our hope, if hope it be. To walk into peril – to Mordor. We must send the Ring to the Fire."

Elfearz! Great to see you quoting again! :D
You're all correct with the quotes - including the words qualified with a "?" - and it IS "Too often..."
Gandalf is not the speaker - which is the only part left to solve. (Ee - why didn't you finish it off?)

Hello, hello! It's great to be back quoting (and around Entmoot in general - it's been a while) :D
I didn't finish it off because I wasn't entirely sure - but if it's not Gandalf I suppose it must be Elrond?

But we don't HAVE a speaker.
I'll take a wild guess and say 'Smeagol / Gollum'
-elfearz-

hehe I took Earniel's throaty noises to be an implied speaker guess - but yes - Smeagol/Gollum is also entirely correct (surprise surprise :p)

-elfearz-
10-17-2007, 10:55 AM
Could it be one of the dwarves from the Hobbit, about Bilbo?
I am going to take a wild guess and say Gloin..
Midge
10-17-2007, 11:32 AM
Quote is right. I actually forgot what the situation is, but fortunately, I do remember who the speaker is, and neither of you have named that aforementioned speaker.
Keep thinking!
Earniel
10-17-2007, 02:12 PM
I'll go with the Dwarf-theme, :p and take another shot in the dark: Balin?
Midge
10-17-2007, 08:22 PM
Hmm... No.
Don't worry about me forgetting who it is. I know, I promise.
Earniel
10-18-2007, 04:37 AM
Hmm... No.
Darn. :p Oh well, only 11 dwarves to go before I have to resort again to my shots in the dark.
So.... Bombur? ;)
Midge
10-18-2007, 01:11 PM
Nope! Are you going alphabetically?
Earniel
10-18-2007, 03:40 PM
Nah, just going with the one I remember next. :p
So... Thorin?
Valandil
10-18-2007, 07:43 PM
I'll start in on the Dwarf theme - for now. Though I don't recall exactly where this is from or whether we've got the right story (but I can't quite imagine Turin or Thingol says it :p ).
Dwalin?
Midge
10-19-2007, 12:54 PM
Hey! You guys didn't have to go through all 13! Thorin it was. Have at it, Earniel!
Earniel
10-19-2007, 01:23 PM
So that's why you asked whether I was going alphabetically! :p (Incidentally, what was the scene?)

I won't take credit for the things that are the same as Earniel's bolded words. I borrowed!
"I it was who first summoned the White Council. And if my designs had not gone amiss, it would have been governed by Gandalf the Grey, and then mayhap things would have gone otherwise. But even now there is hope left. I will not give you counsel,/saying do this or do that.
/For not in doing or contriving nor in choosing
between this counsel(?)or another, had I avail;
/but only in knowing what was and is,
/and in part also what shall be. But this I will say to you: your Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while all the mopping is true."
Okay, so i had one word left and I didn't want to leave any spaces in there, so I just picked a word that fit. You don't have to tell me it's wrong. (I also considered "hopping" and "romping")
EDIT: Oh, and the speaker is Galadriel.
Valandil
10-22-2007, 07:36 PM
Correct on the speaker.
Incorrect words:
* the second "counsel" - the one you put a "?" after
* the "had" a few words after
* "mopping"
Also - a mistake of mine from initially typing it in. It should have been "... between this ___ and another..." - my "or" was a mis-transposition - so I need to make that "and" a gimme.

Haha.. It'd been so long that I'd forgotten exactly who it was.... I had to look it up to see if I was correct.. I was. Dwalin it is not. Keep guessing people. And while you're at it, what was the situation you are thinking?
Valandil

Gloin?
Oh - you know... after the Dwarves have come through Smaug's den and out of the Mountain, and are looking around, and don't know where Smaug is or what has become of him... and someone suggests he might be watching them from high up on the mountain just then. Is that it?

"Men of Gondor, the l_r_m_s_e_s tell us that it was the custom of old that the king should receive the crown from his father ere he died; or if that might not be, that he should go alone and take it from the hands of his father in the tomb where he was laid. But since things must now be done otherwise, using the authority of the Steward, I have today brought hither from Rath Dinen the crown of Earnur? The last king, whose days passed in the time of our _o_g_a_h_r_ of old."
Valandil

All correct so far.

Loremasters
Longfathers??? that one is a booger!
Aragorn.... ish?
Valandil
11-01-2007, 09:57 PM
You've solved the rest of the words. Aragorn is not the speaker. :)
Midge
11-01-2007, 11:59 PM
I'm pretty sure I made up that last word... longfathers??? What the heck kind of word is that?
Uh... how 'bout good ol' Gandy-doodle?
That meant Gandalf... I am going to bed now.
Valandil
11-02-2007, 07:16 AM
Not Gandalf. :)
Midge
11-02-2007, 11:59 AM
Faramir, maybe?
Valandil
11-02-2007, 06:03 PM
Faramir it was! Your turn, Midge. :)
Are you a Faramir fan? I was thinking you were when I picked that one. Maybe he's about the only fella who could get away with using the word 'longfathers'! :p
Midge
11-02-2007, 09:23 PM
Maybe he freaked while he was speaking in front of a whole bunch of people and just made up a word because he couldn't think of one. Well, Aragorn is my favorite, but Faramir is close behind; they are very much alike, after all - I think the only MAJOR difference is that Faramir was the son of the steward while Aragorn was the descendant of kings. I don't actually have my book with me (shocking, isn't it?); I am at my boyfriend's house. I will post tonight (which means I will probably forget to do it tonight and check again tomorrow before remembering it's my turn... isn't that the way it usually happens?)!
Midge
11-03-2007, 11:39 PM
I'm sorry I didn't post last night. I came home and just wanted to go to bed!

No problem... nice to have a little break now and then.

Faramir?
Midge
11-05-2007, 12:14 AM
the first "do" is wrong; "already" is wrong, faramir is wrong.

way; go; refuge; abroad.....eomer...or theoden? i think eomer
Valandil
11-05-2007, 07:28 AM
Ooh - and after elfearz got so many, I hate to do this, but is the last unsolved word 'War'?
Midge
11-05-2007, 12:55 PM
Well, all of elfearz's words were right, and so was eomer (I used your preference of eomer as an excuse to pick that one as the one you guessed)...
And so were you, Val, right. "War" is correct. So, it's your turn.
AceKnight
11-05-2007, 09:47 PM
who's doing the next quote?
Earniel
11-06-2007, 05:48 AM
Usually the one that solved the last bit of the quote, unless he or she gives up her turn. In this case, Valandil will be doing the next quote.
Valandil
11-06-2007, 07:47 AM
Yes - and here it is:
"N_/,/i_/h_s/_o_e/_e_o_d/_u_/r_a_h/.
/_f/_h_t/_t/_e_s_/l_t/_s/_e/_l_d/.

Dang it... I hate it when the page ends and I don't notice, so I reply to the post at the end of the page and others have gone on without me!
I will go try to decipher the quote now!
Midge
11-06-2007, 01:50 PM

/Of that at least let us be glad.
/He can no longer be tempted to use the Ring.

/yet that/deadly peril is removed."
Gandalf?
Valandil
11-06-2007, 10:31 PM
Speaker is indeed Gandalf. All words attempted are correctly solved except both uses of "He" are wrong.
Midge
11-08-2007, 11:06 PM
Are they actually "we"?
I can't for the life of me figure out those other two words!
Valandil
11-08-2007, 11:09 PM
Yes - they are both "We"
Gee... I'd hate for you to die! :(
:p
Midge
11-10-2007, 11:13 AM
It does seem like a mostly two-sided conversation here, doesn't it? I can't for the life of me figure out what those other two words are!!!
Gr...
"near"?
Valandil
11-10-2007, 09:28 PM
'near' is correct :)
Midge
11-12-2007, 01:05 AM
"No, it has gone beyond our reach.
Of that at least let us be glad.
We can no longer be tempted to use the Ring.
We must go soon to face a peril near /_e_p_i_/,
yet that deadly peril is removed."
I got tired of changing my perspective of that wrong quote.
I cannot figure out that last word!!! GARRRR!!! Anyone else besides Val still alive out there to help me?????????
Valandil
11-12-2007, 01:23 AM
Midge - try taking one of the open positions and going through the alphabet to see if anything comes to mind. If that doesn't work, try it in one of the other spots. :)
Midge
11-17-2007, 10:00 PM
It's not that I died. I am just having too much trouble! I keep thinking words that don't fit, like, "replied"... not only do they not fit, that one doesn't even make sense!!! ARGHHH!
Valandil
11-17-2007, 11:09 PM
Don't despair, keep trying! :)
Midge
11-19-2007, 12:56 AM
hey! "despair" fits!!! (I originally typed that in "despaior" which I think would have been highly entertaining to just leave.)
Valandil
11-19-2007, 07:53 AM
It sure does! ;) Your turn, Midge. :)
Earniel
11-19-2007, 08:11 AM
well done, Midge, I kept busting my head over that missing word too, and nothing seemed to fit.

Wow...I just did that piece by piece, no looking...
Valandil
11-20-2007, 07:46 AM
Sounds good, Curubethion! Can you give the speaker too?
We solve all the words and the speaker as well, before we move on to the next quote. :)
Curubethion
11-20-2007, 10:43 AM
Ah, I think that was Gandalf, to Pippin.
Midge
11-20-2007, 04:55 PM
That's right! *It's a good thing you didn't look... that's one of the the rules!!! =)*
So, consequently, thus, therefore, ergo, and duly, it's your turn, Curubethion (your name is somewhat of a booger to type!).
Midge
11-24-2007, 12:20 AM
Hey, Curry... gonna post a quote??
*Is Curry an okay nickname for you?*
Midge
11-25-2007, 11:04 PM
All right... if there is no post by the next time I check here and have my LOTR book around (which may or may not be tomorrow.. you never know), I will post. How's that sound?
Valandil
11-26-2007, 08:31 AM
Midge - that sounds great to me. Go for it, if you're willing. :)
Midge
11-27-2007, 01:13 AM
I'm still curious to know if I offended Curubethion with my nickname... he may not like the sauce.
"C_n/_/?/G_o_/!/B_t/_e'_/c_o_e/,/_s_'t/_e/?/_o_/c_a_g_d/_t/_l_/./"
EDIT: I meant he may not like the sauce which goes on food, not the sauce with which I used the nickname.
Valandil
11-27-2007, 01:40 AM
Eh... my guess is he's fine. Just hasn't checked back in the thread, probably. :)
"Can I? Good! But he's close, isn't he? Not changed at all."
Merry?
Midge

EDIT: That was me going Jar-Jar on you, I suppose!

Midge
11-29-2007, 12:47 AM

Anybody else wanna guess too?
Pippin?

Valandil
12-04-2007, 08:19 AM
Sorry - my own computer is getting a little maintenance lately. I've had some trouble with it. I'm posting this from a different one, but don't want to take up too much time here.
Hope to be back to action in just another day or two. :)
You can skip me for now if you like, or take a little break on the game until I'm truly 'back'.
Midge
12-04-2007, 01:50 PM
We'll wait... we being me and whoever else wants to jump in... I've got essays, essays, essays to write!!!
Count Comfect
12-04-2007, 06:47 PM
I will definitely wait. Sorry I haven't been answering - my thesis has been eating up both my time and my brainpower. So I haven't had any answers to give and I haven't had time to post them if I'd had them. But I am looking forward to Val's post.
Earniel
12-05-2007, 06:41 AM
I'm lazy, I'll wait. :D
Midge
12-13-2007, 11:05 PM
Hm... it's been more than just a day or two... I know you're overrun and lazy, but I posted the one before Val, so I'm game for you guys to post any ol' time you like... Just whenever. Tell me if you want me to post one. I'd like to solve, though.
Valandil
12-14-2007, 12:46 AM
Well - I got my internet back about 3 nights ago, but have had much else to do. But still, it's time to get us going again:

"Speak not so! A year shall I ... every day that passes until your return."
Speaker: Eowyn?
Valandil
12-14-2007, 07:34 PM
Correct on attempted words and speaker.
Only two words left. :)
Midge
12-15-2007, 02:04 AM
I so didn't expect the speaker to be right... It's funny... Others show up for in between times, but not when there's a quote to be solved! Hm... Hold on, I will think for five minutes on what those other words might be.
Midge
12-15-2007, 02:06 AM
Is the big word a synonym for the word "miss" (as in... I miss you)... and the other word "you"? That's as far as I'll go tonight.
Earniel
12-15-2007, 05:50 AM
"endure for"?

Oh - 'in Middle-earth'?
