Okay, since their hasn't been a trivia on ROTK yet, I'll start one...

Q: After everything had been returned to normal in the Shire, what how was Bag End known in Bywater? (jokingly of course)

A:?????

Firekitten2006
05-15-2003, 05:44 PM

Indril Anarion
05-15-2003, 08:16 PM

Firekitten2006
05-16-2003, 04:33 PM

Indril Anarion
05-16-2003, 10:26 PM
A:1421, and they were known for their golden, curly hair?

Firekitten2006
05-16-2003, 10:54 PM

I'm waiting for a new question (god, I hate my impatience)

Indril Anarion
05-27-2003, 06:11 PM
Sorry for taking so long, I completely forgot that it was my turn. Okay...

Q: Whay was the name of the orc that first saw Sam's shadow and thought that he was a warrior elf?

Spock
05-28-2003, 12:28 PM
Shagrat said "...there's a great fighter about, one of those bloody-handed Elves,......."

Indril Anarion
05-29-2003, 02:52 PM
He did say that, but he was not the first to see Sam "The Great Elf Warrior"

Spock
05-29-2003, 04:13 PM
OK then, Snaga, to whom Shagrat was speaking

Indril Anarion
05-29-2003, 04:15 PM
Snaga is the correct answer! Your go, Spock!

who finds the kingfoil for Aragorn?

Lizra
05-30-2003, 01:15 PM
Bergil brings the "old" Kingsfoil to Aragorn. I'm not sure who picked it!

Indril Anarion
05-30-2003, 09:16 PM
Here's a shot in the dark...was it Gandalf that picked it? This can totally be a wrong answer...

Sween
05-31-2003, 05:41 AM
no Lizra got it right it was Bregil

Lizra
05-31-2003, 09:45 AM

Spock

afro-elf
06-20-2003, 07:43 PM
Yeah, Rad it's me. Its been awhile seen I have posted in the LOTR forums. I just came for a tad bit in the general forums.

1) The answers is 3. Not the trailing of the Fellowship. But full fledged assualts durning the War of the Ring.

2) Imrahil is correct.

afro-elf
06-20-2003, 07:45 PM
Speaking of Imrahil, Legolas mentions his Elvish ancestry.

1) can you name the couple of this man elf union?

2) can you name their offspring.

You're right. Indril didn't post any rules. We've just been following the same rules as the other trivia threads. I guess it is up to the thread starter now.

The people of Nimrodel of the woods of Lorien

afro-elf
06-23-2003, 07:05 PM
Close but I am looking for the specific two people Man and Elf and their two offspring.

However, my question may be forfiet because even though Legolas made the statement about Imrahil in ROTK. The answer to my question is not found in the text of ROTK.

Does this violate the rules?

Lizra
06-23-2003, 08:11 PM
Yes! The answer needs to be in the book stated. :) Check out the rules at the beginning of FoTR trivia.

Spock
06-23-2003, 08:15 PM
Unfortunately it breaks the rules.

Questions and answers have to come from ROTK.

Gorthol the Dread Helm
06-23-2003, 11:09 PM
Nimrodel's maiden Mithrellas and Imrazor of Nuemenor are the elven/human connection. I don't remember the children because I don't have my Book of Lost Tales in front of me.

...Well you worked on that for nought. As Lizra, Rhadgast et. al. have stated, the questions and answers MUST be found in ROTK so the question A.E. asked wasn't in conformity with the rules of the game.

Spock
06-26-2003, 10:35 AM
Hey there, it's been 48 hrs. do we have a new question?????

Gorthol the Dread Helm
06-26-2003, 01:57 PM
Is it my turn, because I haven't been dubbed correct yet?

Spock
06-26-2003, 02:12 PM
Yes indeed. Go ahead as you worked so hard to get an answer to a question that was improper. It is now your turn. Remember question and answer must be from ROTK.

Good luck.

Where was the sapling of the white tree (of the line of Nimloth the fair) found by Aragorn?

Spock
06-27-2003, 12:01 AM
iN gONDOR, ARAGORN AND GANDALF COULD NOT BE FOUND ONE NIGHT FOR THEY WENT TO MOUNT MINDOLLUIN AND FOLLOWED A PATH UP......THEN ARAGORN TURNED AND THERE SPARANG A SAPLING NO MORE THAN THREE FEET HIGH. IT'S WHITE PETAL SHONE LIKE THE SUNLIT SNOW. AND ARAGORN CRIED: Ye utuvienyes. The eldest of Trees.....then
Gandalf came and said verily this is a sapling of the3 line of Nimloth the fair; and that was a sapling of the
nine of Nimloth the fair

pippin had a guide to show him around Minus Tirith, in whose mind he went up in stature as he knew the passwords. What was the guides name and who gave pippin the passwords.

It's late and I thought a compound question would be received well.

Sleep well.

hama1
06-27-2003, 01:33 AM
That would be Beregond son of Baranor. "I have no duty this morning, and I have been sent to teach you the passwords, and to tell you some of the many things that no doubt you will wish to know".

I am quite certain that I was first to reply only because I was the only poster up even later than anyone else.

Radagast The Brown

Spock, you mean that Beregond was the one who guide him or the one who gave him the passwords?

"in whose mind he went up in stature" was Bergil who went around with Pippin.

OK SO SOMEONE ELSE CAN GO NOW.

Radagast The Brown

I did think Bergil is the answer. You just had to explain what you wrote before. You get annoyed too fast. I guess it's hama1's turn now.

..gads you guys are more sensitive than me. I sometimes keep the caps key on so as to keep the eye glasses off!!
Also in this case it was meant as a highlight to catch attention to the fact that you could go with a question.

If the issue of Bergil v beregond is still in dispute I defer to spock to ask another question. If however, as others have mentioned above that I should give it a go, well...here goes...

This is one of my favorite quotes from ROTK...

"It needs but one foe to breed a war, not two...and those who have not swords can still die upon them."

Name the character who spoke that line.

As for the horse Dernhelm rode is was WINDFOLA.

sam's hobbit name is in the appendices. that might be taking the rules a little loosely, but hey it's for fun, right? :)

OH NO !! There haven't been many and it was always said they must appear in ROTK. NO appendix questions. Don't change things now. For that matter why not extend to JRRT hand written notes kept by his son in a box in the attic for questions.

I have sent a PM to Indril Anarion asking that she as the thread starter come and clarify whether or not she intended for the Appendices to be included here. I think that's the best way to settle it. While the matter is still in dispute, let's go ahead with Spock's question, since it's his turn to go regardless. Proceed.:)

Spock

CAN'T FIND MY GLASSES SO CAPS-EXCUSE PLEASE-

IT'S BEEN THE RULE WRITTEN OR UNWRITTEN-YOU DON'T USE THE APPENDEX FOR QUESTIONS. YES ROTK HAS THE APPENDIX FOR ALL THE TRILOGY BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOUR ARGUMENT VALID.
AGAIN IF WE'RE CHANGING THE RULES THEN THE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BOOK ITSELF MAKE NO SENSE AND THE ODDS GO DOWN FOR THOSE WHO MAY KNOW THE BOOK AND FAVOR THOSE WHO MEMORIZE MINUTIAE INSTEAD. THERE IS ANOTHER TRIVIA THREAD WHICH PERMITS THIS BUT THIS ONE HASN'T. HOPE THIS HELPS.
OH ONE LAST, 17 PAGES OF QUESTIONS AND OVER 99% HAVE FOLLOWED THE FORMAT USING THE BOOK AS THE SOURCE AND NO FURTHER .i.e. EPENDIXES FOLLOWS FORM FOLLOWS RULES

I wasn't really making an argument for or against, I just felt that a fair way to handle it would be to let the thread starter note what her intentions were regarding the matter, if any. If she didn't even think about it, we can decide from there. So far I think people have tended to stick to the story itself, I think most of the people participating are not the "minutiae" (sp?) kind (if you know what I mean), and I don't think the occasonal question from the Appendix will do any harm. However, I also understand that some people that like to participate would feel at a disadvantage if a lot of A questions started popping up (esp. from Appendix E :0 ), so I think not including it is just as valid. Then again, people have asked questions about dates and such in this thread and the others IIRC, so that means each of the three threads could be peppered with A questons.
Do you remember which thread it is that you refer to in your post, Spock, that does allow A questions?

Edit: Oops, sorry, I was writing this when you reposted your question! Yes, let's just get things moving again at this point, and we'll worry about the A thing later.:)

Oft hope is born, when all is forlorn was said by Legolas to Gimi about the need for wind to sail from Pelargir to Harlond in time to save Minas Tirith. Soon afterwards the wind came up.

Okay, that answers our question then, folks. Thanks, Indril, for clearing that up.
I'm wondering if it might be fun to start a trivia thread in the ME forum that would be for ALL of the "outer circle" stuff, not just the Appendices. It could include questions about Elvish, stuff from UT, Letters, whatever. That way those that want trivia on the deeper stuff would have a special place for that.

I don't remember(re: Black Numenorians), but I just went down to the ME forum and realized that there already exists there a trivia thread like the one I described: it's called "Tolkien/ Middle Earth quiz," and it's currently on page two of that forum. So anyone interested in reviving that, you can ask all the Appendix questions you want -- go for it!:)

Edit: Oh, Cirdan, I just saw your post -- I don't know how that was handled in that thread, but I think hints of that kind are always appreciated!
(BTW, everyone, if the existing thread there doesn't work for some reason, I think it can be worked out with a new thread or something, but I think the one should do just fine).
