Right. :)

09-14-2003, 02:55 AM
Ah, good guess! :)

According to Frodo, Rivendell has something of everything except for what?

nessa
09-14-2003, 08:03 AM
"Yes, something of everything, Sam, except the sea".

cassiopeia
09-14-2003, 10:28 PM
The sea is correct. Your go!

Who/what sang: "Sing now, ye people of the Tower of Arnor...", and why?

LutraMage
09-15-2003, 06:01 PM
I'M BACK!

A great eagle flying out of the East sang the song beginning "Sing now, ye people of the Tower of Arnor..." to let the people of Minas Tirith know that the Lords of the West had triumphed over Sauron (as if the lightness of their hearts had not already told them  ).

nessa
09-16-2003, 05:01 PM
You're right, LutraMage. Your turn.

nessa
09-21-2003, 01:03 PM
Simple one to bump the thread. What was the name of Theoden's horse?

Laurelindórenan
09-21-2003, 02:24 PM
Snowmane?

nessa
09-21-2003, 03:03 PM
You are right Laurelindorenan. Over to you.

Radagast The Brown
10-09-2003, 04:00 PM
Where is Laurelindórenan?

Spock
10-09-2003, 06:20 PM
Wow, thought we'd all disappeared. R. you're as solid as Treebeard who, I believe, called Lauren by that name, Lothlorein, home of Galadriel.
Now even if I'm right (hope a hope a) I'm living with everything packed and stacked around so I can't even find my books to come up with a really good question. But then, I may be wrong and have stated this for naught.

...it's been too long since I talked to real people...:D

Radagast The Brown
10-10-2003, 07:42 AM
Ehmmmm... No, no, no, no... I meant, where is the person that calls himself Laurelindórenan?

Bridgette
10-10-2003, 08:03 AM
HIMself? Laurelindórenan?

I can't even remember who that is (but since I posted that rubbish ^ I suppose I had better stick on topic), so i shall guess....... Rivendell (nice elvish place).

Radagast The Brown
10-10-2003, 08:20 AM
The preson on entmoot with the name Laurelindorenan, and answered correctly on the last question!

Radagast The Brown
10-10-2003, 04:37 PM
:p

I think somebody should volunteer to ask the next question. I don't think we should wait more longer.

Spock
10-10-2003, 04:57 PM
I AGREE and nominate R.T.B. to do the questioning.;)

Radagast The Brown
10-10-2003, 05:05 PM
I resent that! ;)

*sigh* ok... ROTK, right? hmmm... Who was Freca? (Freka)

Spock
10-10-2003, 06:51 PM
Of course we all remember "my friend Freka".:D :D

Lizra
10-10-2003, 07:12 PM
Geez...who indeed! It's in my complete guide to ME, but using that would make me a boring cheater! :D I still want to know how many times the darkening of the sky is mentioned! It's Friday night...so ignore me! ;)

Spock
10-11-2003, 08:58 AM
I don't think this is a fair question although it is one to ponder. You'd have to read the entire book or have it as an E-Book and use the "find" function in order to answer it.

We're more into conventional type questions that can be answered by finding a quote or location or an invisible rabbit.:D

It's Saturday morning and dismal.

Radagast The Brown
10-11-2003, 09:03 AM
Ok, here's a new question:
What was Elrond wearing in the Grey Havens?

Cirdan
10-11-2003, 09:34 AM
So who was Freka? Was it one of the ponies?

Ummm, A tunic by CK?

My real guess, (and it is just that) is that Elrond wore blue robes and his crown of stars.

Radagast The Brown
10-11-2003, 09:40 AM
He didn't wear blue robes.

Freka is someone from Rohank, from Dun.

Freca....Man of mixed Rohirric and Dunlending blood, father of of Wulf. Freca was very rich and powerful and had much land near the Adorn. King Helm distrusted him, and after Freca insulted the king for refusing an offer to marry his daughter to Wulf, Helm slew him.

From "The Complete Guide to middle Earth".

Radagast The Brown

Very well, but too late. :p That's not the current question.

I presume it's in the Appendices.

Radagast The Brown
10-13-2003, 07:58 AM
kiwi is right.

Freca is in the appendixes, so you can't find him in the index, nor in the book.

Spock
10-13-2003, 09:31 AM
RTB I'm surprised at you. No questions are allowed that are not from the story. No index, no appendix and no bloody NCC-1701 B-C-D. :D

kiwi52291
10-15-2003, 05:24 PM
not then either...

Lizra
10-15-2003, 06:46 PM

Valandil is right.

Valandil
10-21-2003, 12:01 PM
OK - who can tell me the fate of Halbarad?

Radagast The Brown
10-21-2003, 04:13 PM
He was killed in the battle of Pelenor fields?

Valandil
10-21-2003, 04:42 PM
sadly:( ... yes:D

take it away...

Radagast The Brown
10-21-2003, 05:07 PM
Who was Grimbold and when was he killed?

Valandil
10-21-2003, 05:10 PM
I'm CERTAIN he was a rider of the Rohirrim...

I THINK he was Theoden's herald/flagbearer and died on the Pelennor Fields - just a bit before Theodon...

Radagast The Brown
10-22-2003, 09:08 AM
You're not exactly right - he was a commander in Rohan, and was killed in the Pelennor Fields.

Your turn.

Valandil
10-22-2003, 10:10 AM
Oh... you're GIVIN' me that one?:D Thanks!

I know some protest against appendix questions (but where else could we put them?). This will obviously be one - but I'll make it easy by doing multiple-choice. In return I ask that nobody look it up:

You may remember that when "Thorongil" (Aragorn) left Gondor, that Ecthelion was still the Steward there, not Denethor. What was the state of Denethor's "family life" at that time...

A. Still single?
B. Married, no children?
C. Married, father of Boromir?
D. Married, father of Boromir and Farmamir?
E. Widower, single father of Boromir and Faramir?

Spock
10-22-2003, 10:42 AM
I know some protest against appendix questions [/B][/QUOTE]

It's not that we protest, the guidelines were set down ages ago not to allow the appendix or index for questions only the story.
:(

Valandil
10-22-2003, 10:50 AM
Sorry - I claim newbie ignorance :D (and complete, utter unwillingness to re-read all 28 pages of previous posts). If nobody can answer this correctly within 3 hours of THIS post, I withdraw the question and it's an all-comers game.

Logical?:p Acceptable?

PS: Five guessers would get it real quick!

(and please note - I DID scan the first page or two and saw no mention of that provision!):)

Spock
10-22-2003, 11:32 AM
Most logical and always acceptable. Not to worry we're not ogres, well not most of the time anyway.:D

Some of these things get lost in the ether so I just passed on the information to help you before rotten pumpkins are tossed at you.:D :D :D

Valandil
10-22-2003, 11:41 AM
Rotten pumpkins... Eeeewwww!

Pumpkin pie... Mmmmmm!:p

But won't you hazard a guess anyway? And where's reliable Radagast?

Spock
10-22-2003, 01:09 PM
Widower, single father of Boromir and Faramir.

I've not my books at hand and memory is crowded with many urgent concurrent demands at this time.
--------------------------
I only know as much about myself as my mind can work on under its current conditions. And its current conditions are not good.

Valandil
10-22-2003, 01:27 PM
"E" is not correct... I guess this IS an obscure-type question - geared just for a history/JRRT/continuity nut like myself:D

Where's Radagast? :)

Radagast The Brown
10-22-2003, 01:28 PM
Here's reliable Radagast. :p

the right answer is A. Still single.

Valandil
10-22-2003, 01:38 PM
Nope - not A - so I guess we're somewhere in the middle...

(and getting close to my self-imposed deadline!)

Radagast The Brown
10-22-2003, 01:46 PM
It needs to be A. Are you sure? *Checks in his book* Oh! Oh! :p

My guess is C; though I'm not certain.

Valandil
10-22-2003, 01:50 PM
"C" is correct!:D And you beat the deadline by 4 minutes.

Just think: at the Council of Elrond, Aragorn coulda told Boromir, "Hey boy, I bounced you on me knee when you were an infink!" Boromir was 2, I think, when Thorongil left - Faramir was born 3 years later. Their mother died soon after that.

Radagast, take it...

Radagast The Brown
10-22-2003, 01:54 PM
How did the wildmen from Druadan call the orcs?

Spock
10-22-2003, 02:00 PM
what or how? I know it was a long name but I can't brouwoewea spell it from memory;)

Valandil
10-22-2003, 02:11 PM
Spock - you're thinking of ents (or mumbling like one!). I think it's in an earlier post:

GORGUN!

Spock
10-22-2003, 02:14 PM
Right, that was my next guess.:D
Think I'd better go take my Valerian Root now.

Valandil
10-22-2003, 02:18 PM
If I may presume to go ahead and ask...

What's the name of the first forest one would encounter in the trip from Edoras to Mundberg / Minas Tirith?

No peeking at those maps now!:D

Radagast The Brown
10-22-2003, 04:33 PM
Gorgun is correct. Your turn Valandil.:)

Valandil
10-22-2003, 04:59 PM

The gate to Minas Tirith knocked down, the arrival of the Rohirrim, the suicide of Denethor, The Battle of the Pelennor Fields, the death of Theoden, the destruction of the Witch King, the arrival of Aragorn to Minas Tirith, etc.

All-in-all, quite a big day! :)

Q: what was strange about the black gate of Mordor, and what was its TRUE purpose. the mountains surrounding Mordor had the same purpose which is, in fact, the opposite of one's first reaction. feel free to email me wid ur answers too.

It was built to keep enemies in, not out.

Saruman said that out the front of Bag End, didn't he?

Nurvingiel
12-23-2003, 05:11 PM
Yes. Well, you got it before anyway, I was just being nitpicky.

Saruman said "Do not expect me to wish you health and long life. You will have neither."

But I suppose a lack of long life implies a lack of health, so whatev. :D

Your go cassiopeia!

What day, in Shire reckoning, did Sam awake in Ithilien after the Ring was destroyed?

April 8, 1419 S.R.

Roughly how many were in Shagrat and Gorbag's companies, respectively?

Radagast The Brown
01-05-2004, 05:09 PM
150?

Nurvingiel
01-05-2004, 08:36 PM
Close. I mean, there were __ in Shagrat's company, and __ in Gorbag's company.

Radagast The Brown
01-06-2004, 09:29 AM
80 in gorbag's, 70 in shagrat's?

Valandil
01-06-2004, 10:23 AM
I thought it was more like 50 in Gorbag's and 100 in Shagrat's??

Nurvingiel
01-12-2004, 03:57 PM
Sorry for asking such a stagnating question guys. The answer is found in "The Tower of Cirith Ungol".

Also, the answer is from Sam's estimation.

No one is correct so far, but Radagast the Brown was closest. (He said Gorbag 80, Shagrat 70.) Radagast is correct about Gorbag.

If you guys want to give up, Radagast can ask a question.

cassiopeia
01-12-2004, 08:42 PM
I checked the book. :D Shagrat's company was about forty, while Gorbag's was more than twice as large -- more than eighty.

Rule 4.

I love the Scouring of the Shire. Appropriate Quote:

Radagast The Brown

1200 miles?

Nurvingiel
01-23-2004, 11:43 PM
I asked a mean question now that I think about it. I was just re-reading that part, and I thought it was a cool peice of trivia.

It's in the chapter The Last Debate, and the distance is measured in leagues.

Cirdan
01-24-2004, 12:48 AM
...and I was thinking I would use that one for a trivia question last time I read it and now I don't remember clearly.:headslap:

Is it thirty leagues?

Nurvingiel
01-24-2004, 05:17 AM
Close, you are close.

Radagast The Brown
01-24-2004, 10:08 AM
Oh - I thought you meant Harlond as in the harbor in Lhun...

how much is a leagyue in miles?

Spock
01-24-2004, 01:01 PM
1 league = 5.55600 kilometers

One kilometer is equivalent to 1,000 meters or 0.62 miles

What plant(s), if any, grow in Mordor?

Radagast The Brown
02-13-2004, 08:48 AM
Yes, you're correct, I looked it up too. And even though Twista didn't aproved it, I think you can ask a question.

(btw - isn't it from the appendixes?)

Katie

Twista
03-14-2004, 10:34 AM

Nurvingiel
03-14-2004, 02:38 PM

Who suggested the heralds say "The King Elessar" at the Black Gate, and why?

Radagast The Brown
03-14-2004, 03:22 PM
Gandalf, because then Sauron would be interested in them and look at them and not at the hobbits?

Nurvingiel
03-14-2004, 03:26 PM
Part one, no
Part two, this is a possibility but it was more general than that.

Radagast The Brown
03-14-2004, 03:28 PM
Prince Imrahil then?

Cirdan
03-15-2004, 02:01 PM
To respect to stewardship until the official transfer of power occured.

Spock
03-15-2004, 02:16 PM
Galadriel said he was to use that name for his house and Sauron would know the name of old and fear it.

Nurvingiel
03-28-2004, 12:27 AM
It was Prince Imrahil, sorry about the delay.

He suggested it because it would make Sauron think on the name more than the Lords of the West would.

Sorry about the delay guys. :o

EDIT: That means RTB got it.
