Ok: Easy one. How many students there are in Harry's age in Gryffindor and what are their names?
HOBBIT
07-04-2003, 08:24 PM
How is that an easy one?
What do you mean by "in Harry's age?"
Harry is 15 - do you mean who else is 15 at Hogwarts? That is hard - we don't know everyone who is 15. Not everyone in his grade may be 15 - they could be 14 turning 15.
Or do you mean name the other fifth years? That too is hard, we don't know all of them
You can't even name everyone from Harry's grade who is in gryffindor - we just know like 5 or 6. And of all the fifth years, we only know what, like 15-20?
Off the top of my head, gryffindor's in Harry's grade: Neville, Dean, Seamus, Ron, Hermione- but there are some others that I am forgetting. And just because they are not mentioned, there are other gryffindors in that year. How could there only be like 5 gryffindors 5th year?
So how is that easy?
Arcala
07-04-2003, 11:13 PM
Sorry for not posring a question; I forgot to go on the internet yesterday.
Radagast: Neville, Dean, Seamus, Ron, Hermione, Lavender, Parvati, and that's about all I can think of. But I agree with HOBBIT, how is this an 'easy question'?

So how is that easy?Well, I couldn't say 'Harry's class', becuase he sometimes learn with the Hufflepuufs and the Slytherins, so I decided to go on the age. I guessed they are in the same age.
Actually there are 8. And Im pretty sure it's everyone from harry's age in Gryffindor - if you guess there are 8 in each house in Hogwarts and there are 7 years... there are 224 in Hogwarts. If each wizard live at least 70 years - there are 2240 wizards in Britain. It sounds right.
Arcala is right.

i was reading book three last night, and in the final quidditch game, slythrerin scores and it says 200 students errupted in cheers. the other three houses were cheering for gryffindor, so that only leaves slytherin. if you do the math, there about there are about 28 or 29 students in each year per house

HOBBIT
07-05-2003, 03:48 PM
We don't know how many students are in each house. I think DEFINITELY more than 8 in each house - look at the first book when the first year gryffindors were being lead to their house (i think it describes a long line of kids, if not, in the movie at least there is more than 8).
That would seem to be a short amount in each class. 8 in each house for each year? That is what, 40 students in each grade? I think there would be a little more?
Just because they only mention 8 in Harry's grade in gryffindor does NOT MEAN at all that there are not more. There probably are.
I mean only 3 girls in gryffindor Harry's year?
So then, Arcala is not corect.
A better question would be "Name all the people from Harry's grade in Gryffindor that we know of"
:)

Maybe, maybe not. The author does not say how many people there are Harry's year in Gryffindor - only those who are friends with Harry etc. We see Hogwarts through Harry remember.
Hmm lets see, 3 girls in Gryffindor and 5 boys? Maybe - but that doesn't mean that there can't be a few more.
