Radagast The Brown
02-25-2005, 05:31 PM
Who was the leader of the Nandor that went back to Ossiriand?
ElemmÃrë
02-25-2005, 06:12 PM
You mean that crossed the mountains, not left the March, right?
Denethor.
(otherwise, if I'm misunderstanding the question, Lenwë)
Radagast The Brown
02-25-2005, 06:20 PM
Yes, Denethor. :) What other meaning there is?
ElemmÃrë
02-27-2005, 09:44 PM

02-28-2005, 11:09 AM
Finrod brought more treasure out of Tirion than any other.
Of course. :) Though... I do think that was the first time he was the answer to any of my questions... :p
ElemmÃrë
02-28-2005, 04:05 PM

Oh. In that case :) Haven't noticed that. I haven't my books present, as I'm to my aunt and uncle, so if one of you want to go, be my guest. If not, I post on Sunday evening/monday.

03-19-2005, 12:18 PM

Radagast The Brown
03-19-2005, 05:42 PM

You passed a question to me without telling me!?
Hmmm.

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-03-2005, 06:39 AM
Lomion, which is Child of the Twilight
ElemmÃrë
04-04-2005, 09:42 PM
Correct, TD. Your turn! :)
Last Child of Ungoliant
04-05-2005, 10:12 AM
TD has asked me to take this as he is away for the week, so an easy one, just to pass it along, Maeglin was lomion's name given to him by his father Eol, but what does maeglin signify?
Falagar
04-05-2005, 11:39 AM
Maeg is 'sharp' while lin, I think, can mean a number of things (often connected to song/singing, for example, but Maeglin didn't really sing a lot :p). It may also be glin, which means gleam, glint...'Sharp-glint'?

sharp is correct
Falagar
04-07-2005, 02:33 PM
Sharp-glance then (not that big a difference ;)).
Last Child of Ungoliant
04-07-2005, 02:35 PM
Sharp-glance then (not that big a difference ;)).
yes indeed
Falagar
04-08-2005, 02:26 AM
Where did Ëarnil win a crushing victory against an invading Haradrim-army?
Radagast The Brown
04-13-2005, 05:14 PM
Pelarigr?
Falagar
04-14-2005, 04:33 PM
Not Pelargir, meant Ëarnil II. Sorry 'bout that. :\
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-14-2005, 04:43 PM
South Ithillien?
Falagar
04-14-2005, 06:01 PM
Yep. :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-15-2005, 11:28 AM
At what age did Eol give Maeglin his name?
Radagast The Brown
04-15-2005, 01:38 PM
Age of Maeglin, right? 9?
Last Child of Ungoliant
04-15-2005, 01:48 PM
.12.
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-16-2005, 03:30 PM
Yeah it was Maeglin RTB. Chrys you're correct.
Last Child of Ungoliant
04-16-2005, 04:06 PM
what is the sindarin name for Tumunzahar?
Radagast The Brown
04-16-2005, 04:15 PM
Nogrod?
Last Child of Ungoliant
04-16-2005, 04:16 PM
indeed
Radagast The Brown
04-16-2005, 04:58 PM
It was obviously a dwarvish name, I wasn't sure if it's Belegost or Nogrod. :)
What form did Sauron take after he lost to Huan and went to Taur-nu-Fuin?
Lotesse
07-11-2005, 11:22 PM
How come no one's answering the question? 'Till tomorrow, I'm exempt from the Sil because I've only just started reading it and then left my book at home last week while I've been out of town. Just tryna keep the torch going, as they say. Tryna keep the trivia breathing.
Lotesse
07-14-2005, 04:10 PM
A wolf?
Radagast The Brown
07-14-2005, 05:31 PM
After.... so, no. That's how he started the fight..
Lotesse
07-14-2005, 06:05 PM
Did he go form-less and then become The Necromancer?
Radagast The Brown
07-14-2005, 06:23 PM
No, not Necromancer. What's exactl ythe form of a necromancer?
Falagar
07-14-2005, 06:36 PM
Vampire/Bat?
Radagast The Brown
07-14-2005, 06:48 PM
Yeah, Falagar... it's you then. :)
Falagar
07-15-2005, 10:01 AM
Wasn't entirely sure on that one.
What name of Laurelin signifies "Yellow Three"?
Lotesse
10-02-2005, 12:50 AM
It's been since July 15th, and still no one has even ventured a guess, here. I can't figure it out, either. What to do?
Earniel
10-02-2005, 07:18 AM
Malinalda.
rohirrim TR
10-07-2005, 04:31 PM
I don't speak elvish, what's malinalda mean? or are you guessing the trivia question?
Earniel
10-07-2005, 05:01 PM
'Alda' means tree, 'mal' means, I believe, 'yellow' or 'golden'. It is the only name for Laurelin that I remember that comes close to the description 'yellow tree' so yes, I'm guessing. :)
Radagast The Brown
10-08-2005, 07:52 AM
I think you're right Earniel, so why don't you post the next question?
Earniel
10-08-2005, 10:39 AM
I'll check my answer and come back with a question.
Earniel
10-09-2005, 09:24 AM
I can't find any other name in the Silmarillion that seems to match, so I think I can assume I guessed correctly.
New question: What are the two names of Fëanor's mother?
Lotesse
10-09-2005, 01:17 PM
Miriel Serinde, no?
Earniel
10-09-2005, 06:38 PM
Indeed, your turn. :)

Lotesse
10-11-2005, 05:51 PM
(I thought the answer was "Honey" and "Mom" ;) )
Lol!! :D Hey Rian, can you do me a big favour today and post a Sil trivia question 4 me? I don't have my book with me, so I'm clueless as to what to post for you all. :) If you don't want to, maybe Earniel could? Thanx you guys!
RÃan
10-11-2005, 06:29 PM
Sure! Got my Sil right here :)

RÃan
10-11-2005, 06:34 PM

Radagast The Brown
01-31-2006, 05:15 PM
Curufin? Can't remember the 'why' part. :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
01-31-2006, 05:30 PM
Because he reminded him of himself as he was a good craftsman aswell.
Arien the Maia
01-31-2006, 09:58 PM
Yes, you both got part of the answer correct...either one gets to go next :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
02-01-2006, 12:20 PM
You go Rad. I don't have the book handy.
Radagast The Brown
02-02-2006, 02:41 PM
Heh, I was just going to tell you to go. :p
alright.. Who, of the Ainur, established Numenor? (Numenore?)
durinsbane2244
02-09-2006, 09:29 PM
i'm gonna take a stab here and say manwe or aule...or i could just walk upstairs...nah...manwe or aule....
Arien the Maia
02-09-2006, 10:15 PM
was it Eonwe?
Radagast The Brown
02-10-2006, 07:47 AM
It's more than one of them, 3 Ainur made Numenor. :) Aule is one of them.
durinsbane2244
02-12-2006, 09:57 PM
rad, i hate to break it to you, but if you look in the text, it says specifically that aule "established" numenor, but i guess you meant all three anyway, so aule, manwe, and ulmo...
Radagast The Brown
02-13-2006, 09:11 AM
I seee. I actually had a probelm in translating the word. I meant something else; I checked now online and it does say specifically that Aule established it, (so I was very wrong! sorry).
I was talking about - "it was raised by Osse out of the depths of the great Water, and it was established by Aule and enriched by Yavanna".
(note again that I haven't looked at the English text when I posted the question)
So I suppose it's your turn durinsbane...
durinsbane2244
02-13-2006, 08:37 PM
yes, i come in here all high and mighty, correct you, and then give wrong names.... :D ...sigh....hmmmm....hmmmm.....who was the greatest of the high elven kings, who succeeded him, and who succeeded him?
Last Child of Ungoliant
02-13-2006, 08:48 PM
stab in the dark: feanor finarfin fingolfin
durinsbane2244
02-13-2006, 10:14 PM
nah, i don't believe feanor was the king at any given point [leastaways, not accepted king] and, though he was great, he was far from the greatest....whole, turning from vala, revolting, and kinslaying-due-to-obsession-with-jewel thing...
Arien the Maia
02-13-2006, 10:23 PM
fingolfin, fingon, turgon ???
p.s. I'll pretend I didn't hear that obvious Feanor rejecting durinsbane! ;) :D
durinsbane2244
02-14-2006, 09:09 PM
oh no! i love feanor! he rocked! but he just was kinda corrupted...but i loved him! nonetheless, indeed! good call maia! your go arien, and fingolfin rocks too! seven wounds the melkor and a limp to boot!
Arien the Maia
02-14-2006, 09:38 PM
oh no! i love feanor! he rocked! but he just was kinda corrupted...but i loved him! nonetheless, indeed! good call maia! your go arien, and fingolfin rocks too! seven wounds the melkor and a limp to boot!
well , good thing we cleared that up! :D
hmmm...What was the metal that Eol used to forge Turin's sword with called?
durinsbane2244
02-14-2006, 09:40 PM
hmmm...well, it was iron from a fallen star...and i just gave the Sil back to me friend...sigh...
Last Child of Ungoliant
02-22-2006, 04:32 PM
galvorn
Arien the Maia
02-22-2006, 09:20 PM
galvorn
yep your turn
Last Child of Ungoliant
02-23-2006, 02:14 PM
ok, an easy question cos the game has been movin too slowly recently - what was the name of fingolfin's sword that he hewed at the foot of morgoth with?
durinsbane2244
03-03-2006, 08:58 PM
can we get a hint?
Last Child of Ungoliant
03-04-2006, 08:31 AM

so much for my "easy" question!! :p
Telcontar_Dunedain

Telcontar_Dunedain

Radagast The Brown
04-20-2006, 01:17 PM

Radagast The Brown
04-26-2006, 04:44 PM
Errr.... what? :p the Fens of Serech in Nirnaeth Arnoediad, maybe?
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-27-2006, 11:47 AM

Radagast The Brown
04-28-2006, 08:49 AM
Three times is correct. Your turn durinsbane.. :)
durinsbane2244
05-02-2006, 09:23 PM
well, a tad late, but still here...
how does hurin die? [i know it's simple, but i am a tad stressed]
durinsbane2244
05-04-2006, 08:52 PM

Earniel
05-05-2006, 03:08 AM
Threw himself in sea, wasn't it?
durinsbane2244
05-05-2006, 07:51 PM
right you are, good sir!
Earniel
05-06-2006, 06:03 AM
To whom did Luthien's disguise in which she entered Morgoth's stronghold, belong to?
jammi567
05-20-2006, 11:37 AM
thuringwethil. Who was elrond's great great aunt?
Earniel
05-20-2006, 06:23 PM
*counts on fingers and thinks hard*
Aredhel?
jammi567
05-20-2006, 06:39 PM
no
jammi567
05-23-2006, 11:33 AM
three days and no new posts.
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-23-2006, 11:44 AM
It would be Aredhel wouldn't it?
jammi567
05-23-2006, 11:49 AM
i've already said it wasn't her
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-23-2006, 12:01 PM
Morwen?
jammi567
05-23-2006, 12:15 PM
no!!
Radagast The Brown
05-23-2006, 01:19 PM
Earwen?
jammi567
05-23-2006, 01:32 PM
no!!. do you want to give up yet?
Radagast The Brown
05-23-2006, 01:35 PM
Earwen is the great great aunt though. :p She married Finarfin, brother of Fingolfin, father of Turgon, father of Idril, mother of Earendil, father of Elrond!!!
jammi567
05-23-2006, 01:51 PM
no, the answer's Galadrial. looking at the family trees, Earwen a great, great, great aunt of Elrond, not a great, great aunt? anyway, it's your go now.
Radagast The Brown
05-23-2006, 01:59 PM
Well...ok then, but i was thinking of Galadrial. looking at the family trees, isn't Earwen a great, great, great aunt of Elrond, not a great, great aunt? anyway, it's your go now.Riiight.:) I initially thought so, but you said 'no' to both Aredhel and Morwen, so I assumed you meant the aunt of the great grandfather. :p (or sister of the great great grandfather)
Aredhel is the sister of the great grandfather though, which would make her great great aunt, no?
And isn't Galadriel the daughter of Earwen?
Hmmm... I think Aredhel is the right answer, no? So it should be Earniel's turn. What do you think jammi?
jammi567
05-23-2006, 02:04 PM
to tell you the truth, i didn't know about Aredhel at all. so i think Earniel should have the next turn.
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-23-2006, 02:22 PM
It is Aredhel, I think, so Earniel should go.
Earniel
05-23-2006, 05:11 PM
I'm confused, since Elrond married Celebrian, Galadriel's daughter, that would make Galadriel his mother-in-law, not his great something auntie?
Confusing elf lineages...
Anyway... next question... Darn, no book near by, this will have to be by memory...
What was the name of the tree in which Lúthien was locked for safe-keeping by Thingol?
jammi567
05-24-2006, 12:24 PM
that's true, but Elrond was son of Earendil, son of Idril, daughter of Turgon, son of Fingolfin, brother to...oh wait, can a elven daughter of a elven brother be an aunt to someone many decendents down (ie. Elrond).
jammi567
06-01-2006, 11:13 AM
is anyone going to answer the question or what?
jammi567
06-02-2006, 02:31 AM
looks like it's upto me. is the answer Hirilorn.
Earniel
06-02-2006, 03:40 AM
Indeed it is. Your turn.
jammi567
06-02-2006, 03:49 AM
where did Amrod and Amras rule.
jammi567
06-13-2006, 11:16 AM
anyone.
jammi567
07-04-2006, 07:26 PM
anyone else, or is it time for a new question.
NelyafinweMaitimo
01-23-2007, 06:45 PM
Amrod and Amras ruled in East Beleriand, between the rivers Aros and Gelion.
Who confirmed the words of Glaurung to Turin, exposing Niniel Nienor as Hurin's daughter? What did Turin call this man that provoked him?
