View Full Version : Fellowship Trivia II

The trivia question HAS to be directly gleaned from a passage or sentence contained explicitly in FotR; it cannot be something you've just thought of, even though that IS a good question. You've got to know exactly where to reference it to within the FotR. Just to make that clear. Now I'm going to go look through my book and try to find the answer to this question. But please make sure your questions are directly taken from within the pages of FotR, o.k.? :)
durinsbane2244

than no, i take it back, because it can't be found directly in FotR text, and i forfeit my turn to Lotesse for being very prompt and on-the-ball in this thread...

12-19-2005, 12:02 AM
Nyet! Read the question carefully; I am very precise when I make questions, so if you've got your book handy, using my question & seeking the answer it'll be there... :)

Who was the chief counsellor of Elrond's household?
It was that elf. You know whats his name. ;)
Actually, I think his name was Erestor, the long-eared Christmas donkey. :D
Lotesse
12-19-2005, 01:02 PM
Indeed! :D That's the donkey! It's all yours, Mithrand1r. :)

Sam.
mithrand1r
12-22-2005, 11:14 AM
Sam.
Sam is the correct answer.
(From their trip down the river.)
durinsbane2244 did have the correct answer first (his correct reply came with about 11 other names.)
I was hoping to have him narrow down his reply to a single name, (otherwise this could lead to people replying to questions with a laundrylist of names/places/etc.) with my reply.
Telcontar_Dunedain was the first to definitively state Sam as the correct answer.
I am inclined to say that Telcontar_Dunedain should go next, if that is fine with everyone. If not then I would like Spock (or whomever is in charge of this topic) to make a ruling on this.
Lotesse
12-22-2005, 02:14 PM
You guys, it would TOTally be TD's turn! Answering tons of answers like that is just akin to when we sometimes do little joke answers - not real answers, not to be treated as such. Right, Spock? I'd say, it's totally Telcontar Dunedain's turn. :)

mithrand1r
12-28-2005, 08:56 PM
what, he left them in that little cave?
No. Please reread the bonus question:
Bonus if you can tell us who thought Aragorn was too careless on the Hilltop.
I am looking for a specific person that thought Aragorn was too careless on the hilltop.
When I said that you were close (location in the book) i meant the answer to the bunus question could be found near the part with the witch king.
clep_web,
When ever you are ready you may give us your trivia question.

Correct. It was aragorn.
mithrand1r

PS. = Postscript

But that's an interesting point, mithrand1r. I'll ask my English teacher sometime about it.
mithrand1r
12-31-2005, 09:48 AM

Happy New Year!
ok, here's a question... what name did Bilbo know Strider by?
Spock
01-01-2006, 02:21 PM
I didn't remember Bilbo ever meeting Strider until I thought of the Council meeting. He called him "Dunadan".

Spock
01-05-2006, 01:06 PM
Thursday, September 22 ( I am assuming you mean bilbo's fare well party.)
1. The question asked for the day, not the date.
2. There is only one party in FOTR.
3. "TD" You are correct. :D
Telcontar_Dunedain
01-05-2006, 05:36 PM

Sorry guys. My internet was down
How did Frodo know Strider could be trusted?
durinsbane2244
01-10-2006, 08:48 PM
because he bore the blade of isildur and he said he knew gandalf?
Serenoli
01-11-2006, 01:30 AM
Because Frodo got a letter from Gandalf and there was a poem about Strider, part of which he quoted to Frodo, without looking at the letter. So he knew Strider was really Aragorn, Gandalf's friend and could thus be trusted!
Acalewia
01-11-2006, 02:30 PM

Telcontar_Dunedain

Okay then, Melendil and Imladris?
Landroval

Melendil it is; the location is westward of Osgiliath.
Serenoli
01-22-2006, 12:36 PM
west of Osgiliath... that must be Minas Tirith, or as it was called then, Minas Anor. I know he went there once, because Gandalf found some writings on the Ring by Isildur there.

Look, you guys, here it is - the straightforward question --
After passing out of the city of the elves, how many miles had the company travelled by noon?
And then the answer is:"They had gone some ten miles and noon was at hand when they came on a high green wall." -from Farewell to Lorien.
So, as Mithrand1r and Serenoli said, TEN MILES!! Has not this question been answered, Spock? Or is it still incorrect? :)

Here's my question:
"Which river does the Last Bridge cross, and what other name is it also known by?"
Telcontar_Dunedain
02-09-2006, 10:59 AM
Brunien and Loudwater?
Serenoli
02-10-2006, 09:53 AM
No, Bruinen has no bridge, and Loudwater is the other name for the river Bruinen.
I think my question may be a bit unclear. I want you to give me:
a)the name of the river over which the Last Bridge is built
b)the other name of the Last Bridge.
Spock
02-10-2006, 11:20 AM
a.k.a. The Bridge of Mitheithel.
the Glandum (a.k.a. the Gwathlo) which is tributary of the Bruinen.
and
The Mitheithel itself which crossed under the Bridge named after it.
Serenoli
02-10-2006, 11:49 AM
Spock, you have got the name of the Bridge correct, :) but not the river. You got the Elvish name for the river correct, though.
BTW, I also believe Bruinen is a tributary of the Gwathlo, not the other way around.
