No, not Gandalf, although it's a deceptively Gandalfian kind of comment to be made, isn't it? ;)

rohirrim TR
09-19-2005, 10:11 AM
Elrond?

Lotesse
09-19-2005, 01:58 PM
Nay, not he.

Rconsole
09-19-2005, 06:25 PM
Oh! Oh! Sam?

Lotesse
09-19-2005, 11:34 PM
Not he. I'm surprised nobody's getting it. I'll give a hint: The answer is to be found in the chapter "Three is Company." :)

Elanor
09-19-2005, 11:57 PM
I was going to say Galadriel, but she's not in that chapter, is she? The only one I can think of is Merry.

Lotesse
09-19-2005, 11:58 PM
Nien and nyet. :D

Pip
09-20-2005, 08:12 AM
Uh, was it Gildor?

Spock
09-20-2005, 11:23 AM
..she has to stop giving those hints :D

Lotesse
09-20-2005, 12:49 PM
Gildor it was, Pip! Welcome 2 the moot, by the way! It's your turn. :)

Pip
09-20-2005, 06:57 PM
Thankies :)
At what time did Merry wake Frodo the day they left Crickhollow?

Lotesse
09-20-2005, 07:10 PM
Was it four in the morning?

Pip
09-20-2005, 07:16 PM
Very close but no, that's not it.

Lotesse
09-20-2005, 07:19 PM
Ah! Half-past four in the morning! :)

Pip
09-20-2005, 07:23 PM
Yeppers, your turn

Lotesse
09-21-2005, 02:16 PM
Who was Frodo referring to when he talked about "luggage with eyes?"

Telcontar_Dunedain
09-21-2005, 02:46 PM
Well he wasn't actually referring to anyone, he was just poking fun at Sam and referring to the conversation they just had, but I guess the answer you're looking for is Gollum.

Lotesse
09-21-2005, 02:50 PM
No, he wasn't talking about Gollum. It's a tricksey question, precioussss, yesss, tricksey! :D

Rconsole
09-21-2005, 03:50 PM
All of the hobbits in the fellowship?

Lotesse
09-21-2005, 03:54 PM
Noooo... :D

rohirrim TR
09-21-2005, 08:58 PM
the whole fellowship had to be blinded in lothorien because they were luggage with eyes?

Lotesse
09-21-2005, 09:27 PM
Ah... no. Nice try, tho. :D TD was on the right track, already, but his answer's wrong.

rohirrim TR
09-21-2005, 09:52 PM

Lotesse
09-21-2005, 09:55 PM

Spock
10-10-2005, 01:16 PM

Curubethion

 I'm stumped

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-11-2005, 11:22 AM
Was it Gildor being asked about the Nazgûl by Frodo?

Spock
10-11-2005, 12:10 PM
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :D

Lotesse
10-11-2005, 06:53 PM
This sounds like something typically cryptic that Gandalf would say. Hmmmm.

Curubethion
10-11-2005, 09:43 PM
It kind of sounds like something said because someone was looking at Sting and talking about the proximity of orcs...
Frodo, in Moria?

Spock
10-11-2005, 09:49 PM

Frodo, in Moria?

Well, "kind of" and "sounds like" don't cut it in the correct department.

Try, Try again because you have only another 24hrs before this question self-destructs. ;)

rohirrim TR
10-11-2005, 10:14 PM
aragorn refering to orcs in moria?

Spock
10-12-2005, 11:59 AM

Frodo, in Moria?

While not the answer---and no, I'm not revealing it now; might want to use it again in the future it's was on the right track and so
I ask you, Curubethion, to post the next question.

Curubethion
10-12-2005, 09:02 PM
Okay. The first chapter of FOTR was "A Long-Expected Party". What was the second chapter called? (Don't look it up if you can help it ;) )

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-13-2005, 02:03 PM
Shadow of the Past?

Curubethion
10-13-2005, 11:38 PM
Yep. Just curious...did you look that up? (You get the next question anyway)

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-14-2005, 11:39 AM
No, I've read LotR to many times!

According to Legolas, what are the trees of Lorien called?

rohirrim TR

Curubethion
10-14-2005, 11:49 PM

Spock

Curubethion
10-20-2005, 08:17 PM
Yeah, you got it.
In the future, if I don't show up within about a day, I probably won't be on for a while, so wait for one confirmation and then accept it as correct.

Spock
10-20-2005, 08:53 PM

durinsbane2244

hm, the elf dude? not glorfindal, the other one....oh, no! the nazgul! ha! he found them!

Very good guess. It is not the character I was think as the answer for this question. I was thinking of a non-hostile (to the hobbits at any rate) character, but I think your answer does fit the question as I asked it.

If no one else writes the correct answer, you may have the next question.

{Actually, if I was to be a bit technical, Frodo did speak to the Nazgul. He spoke to all of them at the Ford. Still this is a very good guess.}

Finrod Felagund
10-24-2005, 04:58 AM
A fox?

Valandil
10-24-2005, 05:20 AM
I'm thinking it probably WAS Glorfindel. Frodo wasn't in any kind of condition to speak much then, was he?

Finrod Felagund
10-24-2005, 05:22 AM
I'm positive there's mention of a fox being the lone creature to see them, or something like that. Maybe it was on the journey from Hobbiton to Crickhollow though...not sure.
I know there's a fox at some point.

mithrand1r
10-24-2005, 11:14 AM
A fox?

Your crazy as a _ _ _ and have the correct answer as well. Well done.

IIRC, there were two foxes mentioned, but I am thinking of the one from the begining. (about pg. 21 in the edition I am reading from; When the three hobbits start out on their journey.)

P.S. It is your turn as well. :)

Spock
10-24-2005, 11:41 AM
FYI and to show how editions differ. Page 21 in my book is still the prologue. Even adding 21 to the first page of the narative brings you into the middle of the Party. So you can see how difficult it may be to find things.

Agreed. Part of the reason why I added some background info about the fox from the book.

It doesn't help that I also made an error in typing the page number. :o It should read pg. 81 not 21. :o

I probably should have also included the book and chapter

The Fellowship of the Ring: "Three Is Company,"
"Hobbits!" he thought. "Well, what next? I have heard of strange doings in this land, but I have seldom heard of a hobbit sleeping out of doors under a tree. Three of them! There's something mighty queer behind this." He was quite right, but he never found out any more about it.

Finrod Felagund
10-24-2005, 02:32 PM
What was the mayor of the Shire's name and nickname?

mithrand1r
10-25-2005, 04:10 PM
hmmm, Guliani......yeah, Rudy! :D

Spock,

I think that was the Mayor of Norte Dame. They even had a movie about it called "Rudy". ;)

Will you please limit the amount of your illogical responses.
They do not seem to have any of the whit that you normally have in your responses. It may be a good time to remove your foot from your mouth.

I do not want to appear overly harsh in my reply, so I would like to offer you some flour dumplings. It is a traditional treat in my culture. They are best eaten when freshly made. I prefer mine with confection sugar and honey, but other people have different preferences such as cinnamon or nutmeg.

Finrod Felagund,

I am sure someone will come with the correct answer soon enough. ;)

Edit: Wow. This must be my first Trivia post in 10.000 years or something.

Correct.

I think that my mention of the mathom house made this too easy.

I do not think that is says directly when Bilbo tok the mithril coat. It is more through indirect mention that one can work out when Bilbo took the coat.

Your turn.

I think Frodo was delivered to Rivendell on October, 20, 3018

IIRC, Frodo was "out" for four days.

I wish all a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving Day.

ok.

What date did Frodo get transported to Rivendell, after "falling". And how long before he regained consciousness?

IIRC, (If I Recall/Remember Correctly) Frodo was at the Ford of Bruinen on October 20, 3018, when he collapse on Glorfindel's horse Asfaloth after facing the nine riders.

He was delivered as quickly as possible to rivendell.
(If Frodo did not arrive at Rivendell on the 20, then I guess he arrived on the 21 of October.)

He awoke on October 24, 3018 with Gandalf at his side. The splinter was removed from him the night before by Elrond.

I'll try again. I know it is not always easy to answer the question exactly as it should be answered.

Frodo was brought unconscious to Rivendell by elves on the night of the 20th of October. He regained consciousness after four days of unconsciousness.

Frodo was brought unconscious to Rivendell by elves on the night of the 20th. He awoke on the morning of the 24th of October at about 10 o'clock. (at least that is what Gandalf stated to Fordo in the book, IIRC)

Were you looking for something similar to this?

As Frodo lay, tired but unable to close his eyes, it seemed to hom that far away there came a light in the eastern sky: it flashed and faded many times. It was not the dawn, for that was still some hours off.

'What is the light?' he said to Strider, who has risen, and was standing, gazing ahead into the night.

'I do not know,' Strider answered. 'It is too distant to make out. It is like lightning that leaps up from the hill-tops.'

Frodo lay down again, but for a long while he could still see the white flashes, and against them the tall dark figure of Strider, standing silent and watchful. At last he passed into uneasy sleep.

and

I was hard put to it indeed: such light and flame cannot have been seen on Weathertop since the war-beacons of old.
