Welcome to the Two Towers trivia thread. The rules are basically the same as the Fellowship trivia thread.

- Only questions from "The Two Towers" itself.

- The first person to answer correctly asks the next question.

- Wait 48 hours for confirmation of a correct answer by the asker (or two third party confirms after 24 hours).

- Four wrong answers should prompt a hint from the asker.

- Have fun!

**************************
AND NOW THE FIRST QUESTION:

What happened at Derndingle?

**************************

Firekitten2006
04-23-2003, 05:57 PM
'Hoo, eh? Entmoot?' said Treebeard, turning round. 'It is not a place, it is a gathering of Ents-which does not often happen nowadays. But I have managed to make a fair number promis to come. We shall meet in the place where we have always met: Derndingle Men call it. It is away south from here. We must be there before noon."
page 467

So the answer is an Entmoot happened in Derndingle. :)

Oh? We are allowed to refer to the books so obviously? w00t! I thought you were meant to only use your LotR knowledge for these trivias. Good news!:D

Allowed? I suppose. But it cuts down on bragging rights.;) We just have to make the questions harder, eh?:)

Radagast The Brown
04-24-2003, 03:32 PM
Well, the question was hard. I didn't remember anything about Derndigle. I thought you made that up.

Firekitten2006
04-24-2003, 06:39 PM
Ya i thought you made it up too. :) hmmm a worthy question.....:P What messages did Galadriel send to Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn via Gandalf?

Lady of Rohan
04-24-2003, 07:23 PM
Legolas; beware of the see (and the seaguls)

Gimli; she told him to be carfull of which tree's he cuts down

Aragorn; (I had to look this one up)

Where now are the dunedain, Elessar, Elessar?
Why do thy kingsfolk wander afar?
Near is the hour when the lost should come forth,
And the grey company ride from the north.
But dark is the path, appointed to thee;
The dead whatch the road that leads to the sea.

Firekitten2006
04-24-2003, 07:39 PM
Thats right! Your go!

Lady of Rohan
04-25-2003, 04:51 PM
Oh, yay! :) Ok.... here's an easy one:

What year was the pipe weed made in (the pipe weed that Sauruman had at Orthanc, that Merry and Pippin found)?

Who does Sam describe as, "Sometimes like a great tree in flower, sometimes like a daffadowndilly, small and slender like?"

cassiopeia
04-27-2003, 02:34 AM
I think he's referring to Galadriel.

Cirdan
04-27-2003, 10:15 AM
Right, Cassie! Your turn to ask.

cassiopeia
04-29-2003, 08:01 PM
Oops, nearly forgot about this thread. All right, what was Sam's wish at the end of The Two Towers?

Telmelion
04-29-2003, 09:37 PM
To go back and be able to find Frodo alive in the pass of Cirith Ungol.

cassiopeia
04-30-2003, 05:35 AM
Yes, that's correct.

Telmelion
04-30-2003, 08:42 PM
ok...what rhyme does Sam recite at the black gate?

Indril Anarion
04-30-2003, 09:07 PM
Is it...

Grey as a mouse
Big as a house
Nose like a snake
I make the earth shake,
As I tramp through the grass;
Trees crack as I pass
With horns in my mouth
I walk in the South
Flapping big ears
Beyond count of years
I stump round and round
Never lie on the ground
Not even to die.
Oliphaunt am I
Biggest of all
Huge, old, and tall.
If ever you'd met me
You wouldn't forget me.
If you never do
You won't think I'm tru;
But old Oliphauntam I,
And I never lie.

????? It can be found at the end of the chapter called: "The Black Gate Is Closed"

Am I right?

Telmelion
04-30-2003, 09:24 PM
You're completely right!

Extra points for writing the entire poem down.

Ask away.

Indril Anarion
04-30-2003, 10:23 PM
Yay! I got one right! Woohoo!

Finally, TT Trivia. Sorry about your copy of TT Radagast--I guess you'll have to spring for another... you would have needed one anyway sooner or later.

Forgive me for jumping in, but here goes:

What other endearment does Gollum use to address himself with other than "Precious"?

Indril Anarion
05-05-2003, 03:18 PM
Is the answer: "Smeagol"..."Sweet One"

barrelrider110
05-05-2003, 03:19 PM

Indril Anarion
05-05-2003, 05:04 PM

A:?????

Cirdan

What is the name of leader of the Rohirrim who first led the out of the north and what is the "true kinship" of the Rohirrim?

Linaewen
05-11-2003, 07:45 AM
Was it Eorl? The second question I don't know, so I will make it up. Was it with the men of Gondor?

Cirdan
05-11-2003, 08:25 AM
Right. and no.

Think North...

barrelrider110
05-12-2003, 08:20 AM
Eorl the young led the Rohirrim out of the North, and their kinship is with the men of Dale and the Beornings.

Cirdan
05-12-2003, 11:51 AM
Correct Barrelrider. I thought that was an interesting link to the Hobbit coming so late in LotR.

Hmmm, interesting, yes. There are several references to the Beornings in FoTR also, but I don't think they are mentioned as skin-changers.

What other names and/or titles for the son of Arathorn appear in TT? There are at least seven (7) other than the one already mentioned.

-elfearz-
05-12-2003, 10:01 PM
well i'll start..dunno how far i'll get....alright, here goes
aragorn
strider
elessar
wingfoot
dunadan
thorongil (or was that in rotk?)
the elfstone?
elendil's heir?
heir of isildur?

Cirdan
05-14-2003, 02:14 PM
...and The Healer, Heir to the throne of Gondor, the heir of kings...

I would not like doing his business cards.

The answer seems adequate so if Barrelrider doesn't show soon, it's you're go -ee-

Radagast The Brown
06-01-2003, 03:33 PM
"'It is not for you, Saruman!' he cried in a shrill and toneless voice, shriking away from Gandalf. 'I will send for it at once. Do you understand? Say just that'"

06-03-2003, 04:37 PM
Correct! Your turn RtB.

Radagast The Brown
06-03-2003, 04:46 PM
ok. What was the name of the leader of the Uruk Hai that captured Pippin and Merry? Very easy one. I didn't have much time to look for a hard question.

Rosie Gamgee
06-03-2003, 08:26 PM
Hi Radagast!

This is the book forum, right? So you can't be talking about the Uruk Hai that captured Merry and Pip (cuz in the book he doesn't have a name, although in the movie his name is Lurtz). You must mean Grishnakh (or however you spell his name), right?

Gwaimir Windgem
06-03-2003, 08:35 PM
Actually, Uruk-hai refers to them in general; Uruk is singular. :)

And the Uruk did have a name; he was Ugluk. My brother's favourite character. ;) He's rather obsessed with orcs, trolls, and various other evil creatures. :p

Grishnakh was a uruk in the strictest sense of the word (as it literally means Orc), but not in the sense it is commonly used, that is the great, soldier-orcs bred by Sauron. He was an Orc of Mordor, I believe. :)

Radagast The Brown
06-04-2003, 03:45 PM
Hey, RG. You are the same one as the one in TT, right?

Anyway, GW is right. You're turn!!! :D

Rosie Gamgee
06-06-2003, 03:25 PM
Yes Radagast.

GW, thanks for the correction. I had forgotten about Ugluk! And I was just wondering about Grishnakh being a true Uruk Hai.

Cirdan
06-07-2003, 10:39 AM
GW, It's your turn to ask.:)

Cirdan
06-09-2003, 05:12 PM
How much damage did the Ents do to the tower of Orthanc?

Salquënòrëwen
06-09-2003, 05:22 PM
They didn't do any damage to the tower Orthanc...right?

Cirdan
06-09-2003, 05:45 PM
well some, but not much.

Salquënòrëwen
06-09-2003, 05:48 PM
Oh...

Lizra
06-10-2003, 07:48 AM
So is Salque to ask the next question? :)

Cirdan
06-10-2003, 08:42 AM
Sure. I was looking for "a few scrathes and some flakes of stone", but maybe it was too obscure.

Salquënòrëwen
06-10-2003, 09:42 AM
I ask a question? Oh gosh....um....What are the 2 names mentioned for the Ent who "baby-sat" Merry and Pippin during the Entmoot?

(sorry for the bad question, I'm not too good at making up trivia questions.....:o )

Cirdan
06-10-2003, 10:24 AM
No, that's a good one. One of our trivia regulars confused the names as different ents earlier. :)

Bregalad and Quickbeam.

Salquënòrëwen
06-10-2003, 10:25 AM
:D Thanks. And yep, that's right.:D

Cirdan

Radagast The Brown

of Osgiliath?

Rosie Gamgee
06-10-2003, 05:17 PM
Which king was he? I don't get it.
Anarion was Isildur's brother, and was killed in the Last Alliance, right? Was he actually king over anything? I don't remember. I know he's one of the kings in the little palantir rhyme:

Tall ships and tall kings,
Three times three.
What brought they from the foundered lands
Over the flowing sea?
Seven stars and seven stones
And one white tree.

Thank you Radagast. While I ponder a question, please tell me, what is the weather in your corner of the world? In Philadelphia, PA , USA, it is rather hot and humid. Not unlike Mordor.

I agree with RTB, it's been four days since Sal posted and two days since RTB PMed ElfGirl, and that sure seems like the right answer to me. I think Sal should post his/her question.
