Yeah, Merry was smoking, Pip was sleeping (I love that part when Merry kicks Pippin, saying something about his compainion being weary. lol).

I'm going to post a question here given the thread is in danger of dying?

What, did Aragorn say, would ride with the Rohan into war as they could not "rest against your wall"?

Rosie Gamgee
09-16-2003, 07:09 PM
His sword and sheath?

nessa
09-17-2003, 02:34 PM
Sorry, Rosie, not the right answer.

Laurelindórenan
09-17-2003, 07:52 PM
He says axe, sword, and bow, meaning him, Legolas, and Gimli I think.

I'm pretty sure that's right but if it is, I'm not good at making questions. Someone else can have my turn.

nessa
09-18-2003, 04:07 PM
You're right! Please ask a question! Remember, no question is too daft!

Laurelindórenan
09-18-2003, 11:46 PM
Alright... not my fault if it's stupid though.

What line did Pippin add to Treebeard's lists of creatures?

nessa
09-20-2003, 04:17 PM
Good question! I had to re-read the chapter, got carried away. Ho-hum.

Pippen says: "Half-grown hobbits, the hole dwellers."

Laurelindórenan
09-20-2003, 06:16 PM
Correct! :D

nessa
09-21-2003, 12:59 PM
How many riders were left with Theoden after the departure of Gandalf and Aragorn?

Alqualaure
10-14-2003, 02:34 PM
Okay, this is off the top of my head, and very likely wrong - LOL! - but I'll try... a dozen?

PippinTook
10-15-2003, 01:26 AM
fifteen?

Cirdan
10-15-2003, 12:33 PM
5000

nessa
10-18-2003, 07:08 PM
Sorry everyone! " I will keep Eomer and ten Riders, said the king". You were nearly right Alqualaure therefore I gift it to you! phew.

Alqualaure
10-20-2003, 02:28 PM
Alright...

Who were the two guards that Faramir set to watch Sam and Frodo on the way to Henneth Annun?

By the way, my apologies for the delay in posting - I went out of town for the weekend and completely forgot my Entmoot "duties"! LOL

Radagast The Brown
10-20-2003, 02:42 PM
Mablung and Damrod?

Alqualaure
10-21-2003, 01:41 AM

Radagast The Brown

Alqualaure
10-21-2003, 11:38 AM
He puts his hands behind his back.

:D

Radagast The Brown
10-21-2003, 04:09 PM
Right. :)

Alqualaure
10-24-2003, 01:09 PM
My apologies once again for such a long delay... ach, life interfering with my pursuit of trivia! ;) :p So...

Who was Marshall of the Westfold?

:D

Valandil
10-24-2003, 01:12 PM
Hey Alqua... how goes it?

Was it Theodred, son of Theoden?

Radagast The Brown
10-27-2003, 02:43 PM
Erkenbrand?

Alqualaure
10-28-2003, 10:33 AM
Ugh, once again I must apologise for the long delay, fellas!

Elvengirl
10-31-2003, 07:55 PM

Valandil
11-01-2003, 01:42 AM
Question:

Who (or what) is Grishnahk?

Elvengirl
11-01-2003, 09:24 AM
That would be correct. :)

The Dunedain
11-01-2003, 09:51 AM

Elvengirl
11-01-2003, 10:06 AM

again I'm sorry. :o

I'll answer your question :)

forty-two (Gimli) to forty-one (Legolas)

(Can you tell I'm embarrassed? :D )

Valandil
11-01-2003, 08:46 PM
Correct Elvengirl... and no need to be embarrassed. You're not a native speaker of Sindarin or Westron... :) Now - I imagine I'm safe assuming YOU'RE a 'she'?

Your turn...

Elvengirl
11-03-2003, 09:31 AM
I figured the "girl" would give it away. :)

Now for a question.

Who was the first to grow "true pipe weed" in his garden?

The Gaffer
11-03-2003, 04:15 PM
Tobold the Old got the credit, though he nicked it from me ol grandad (you'll note this last bit was censored from the Red Book because of a legal dispute)

Elvengirl
11-03-2003, 10:31 PM
 Imagine that, taking all the credit from your ol grandad. Tsk Tsk, never thought hobbits would do such a thing. Well good thing I know the truth now, eh? ;)

you can ask they next question :)

The Gaffer
11-04-2003, 05:35 AM
Aye well, they're all a bit funny down in the Southfarthing.

OK - What was the last sentence Sauron spoke to Pippin?

Radagast The Brown
11-04-2003, 09:41 AM

Radagast The Brown
11-18-2003, 04:39 PM

If she doesn't post, somebody else should. No matter who.

The Dunedain
11-18-2003, 05:40 PM
ok I'll ask

In The chapter in which Gollum "paws" at a sleeping Frodo after coming back from a meeting with Shelob, and Sam shouts at him, what simile does Tolkein use to foreshadow the encounter with Shelob

cassiopeia
11-18-2003, 08:28 PM
He describes Gollum as Almost spider-like he looked now, crouched back on his bent limbs, with his protruding eyes.

I never picked up that when I read the book! Interesting. :)

12-10-2003, 10:03 AM

Radagast The Brown
12-10-2003, 03:24 PM

Radagast The Brown
12-16-2003, 04:09 PM
What colour did the feathers on Gondor soldiers' arrows have?

Arandir
12-17-2003, 09:50 AM
Green, if you're referring to the arrows used by the Rangers of Ithilien, otherwise I am predictably clueless.

Radagast The Brown
12-17-2003, 01:39 PM
Correct. Your turn to ask. :)

Arandir
12-17-2003, 04:34 PM
Before Aragorn and his party undertake the Paths of the Dead, they observe ancient stone statues of Men. What are these called?

Radagast The Brown
12-17-2003, 04:39 PM
Are you sure it's from TTT?

LutraMage
12-17-2003, 06:15 PM
I think Rad's right, the passing of the grey company was definitely in TRoTK. ;)

Bacchus
12-17-2003, 06:40 PM
The Pukel-men are indeed found in ROTK

Arandir
12-17-2003, 06:52 PM
My mistake, I pass the baton to others and plead the evil influence of the Black Breath.

Radagast The Brown
12-18-2003, 04:17 PM
Maybe, but we still want a new question, Arandir...

Valandil
12-18-2003, 04:21 PM
OOoooo, yeah! PERFECT punishment for such a mistake... YOU, Arandir, have to ask yet another question!!!:D

(don't worry, you're not the only one to ever do it... present company not even excluded!:p )

Arandir
12-18-2003, 05:29 PM
What sword does Theoden grasp when awakened from the whisperings of Wormtongue by Gandalf?

Bacchus
12-18-2003, 05:45 PM
Eomer's sword, Guthwine

Arandir
12-18-2003, 06:24 PM
Excellent! *sits back, crosses legs and lifts a tankard*

Bacchus
12-18-2003, 07:28 PM
Who was found wide awake and glaring in Shelob's larder?

ethuiliel
12-21-2003, 12:42 AM
Had to look this up. Is it Ufthak?

Radagast The Brown
12-29-2003, 03:53 PM
A question anyone? 8 days passed from the answer.

ethuiliel
01-02-2004, 12:56 PM
What did Faramir give the hobbits?

Radagast The Brown
01-02-2004, 04:41 PM
two staffes? (errr... it doesn't sound good... maybe 'staves'?)

ethuiliel
01-03-2004, 09:08 PM
Good, but that's only half of it...he also gave them something else.

Radagast The Brown
01-04-2004, 08:36 AM
heavier bags than before, aybe?

Nurvingiel
01-04-2004, 05:03 PM
He gave them iron shod walking staves, as somebody already mentioned, food, and advice not to go to Cirith Ungol.

ethuiliel
01-04-2004, 10:28 PM
Yeah. That was even more than I expected!!

Nurvingiel
01-04-2004, 10:35 PM
Yea. :) I just read TTT, and that part really sticks. Faramir is so excellent. Now I don't have the book with me. Hmmm, a question.

Which of Faramir's men had actually seen Gollum?

Meriadoc
01-05-2004, 01:02 AM
I think Damrod and Mablung saw gullom?

Nurvingiel
01-05-2004, 02:04 AM
Well, some people saw him when they first came upon Frodo and Sam, so later they went and looked for Gollum specifically. Then, only one person caught a glimpse. Sorry, I should have clarified that.

Radagast The Brown
01-05-2004, 07:49 AM
Anborn?

Nurvingiel
01-05-2004, 08:32 PM
Yes. Nice job Radagast. :) Your turn.

Radagast The Brown
01-06-2004, 09:27 AM
What is the name of the flower that grows on the mounds of Rohan's kings?

Cirdan
01-06-2004, 09:57 AM
symbelmyrne

Radagast The Brown
01-06-2004, 02:45 PM
Correct again.

Cirdan
01-07-2004, 01:49 PM
Mordor is: "the lasting monument to the dark labour of its slaves that should endure when all their purposes were made void; a land defiled, diseased beyond all healing--- ..." unless what should happen?

The Gaffer
01-12-2004, 06:06 AM
the Sea should rise up and wash everything away?

Cirdan
01-12-2004, 01:12 PM
right

The Gaffer
01-13-2004, 05:10 AM
How long was Sam's bit of rope?

Elvengirl
01-13-2004, 09:25 AM
thirty ells?

The Gaffer
01-13-2004, 06:18 PM
Quite right, me dear. And for a bonus, point, what the **** is an ell???

Elvengirl
01-13-2004, 06:54 PM
45 inches :D (ok ok I had to look it up :D )

On Sam's first strike what did he shore away?

The Gaffer
01-14-2004, 09:36 AM
Wow. I wonder if a hobbit ell was the same. Just as well Sam elld it while Frodo dangled over the edge.

Anyhoo, is the answer one of Shelob's claws?

Elvengirl
01-14-2004, 07:15 PM
yes, thats right :)

The Gaffer
01-15-2004, 05:14 AM
Whose fault was it that the Whiteskins got wind of the Isengarders?

The Gaffer
02-05-2004, 07:27 AM
Well, I guess time's up. The answer was Snaga and the scouts.

What was Gimli's debt to Pippin?

luinilwen
02-05-2004, 08:44 PM
Pippin gives Gimli a spare pipe at Isengard so they can share in the spoils together.

uhm... who are the three remaining of the first Ents?

sorry if that's not a very good question...:)

ethuiliel
02-05-2004, 10:33 PM
Fangorn, Finglas, Fladrif

luinilwen
02-06-2004, 03:28 AM
correct (obviously).

why don't people write new questions when they've answered the current one correctly?

:)

Nurvingiel
02-06-2004, 03:54 AM
It's because the way you play is wait for the person who asked the question to confirm that you're right.

luinilwen
02-06-2004, 04:23 AM
*blush* ok... i'm just too impatient to wait i guess.. hardly anyone is on to play with me when i'm online!

ethuiliel
02-06-2004, 10:13 AM
Faramir said that Frodo had an Elvish air, but Sam said Faramir had an air of ...what?

The Gaffer
02-06-2004, 11:56 AM
Mumakil droppings, no er I mean Wizards

ethuiliel
02-06-2004, 12:32 PM
NOOOOO:mad:!!! I mean, yes.

The Gaffer
02-06-2004, 01:12 PM
So he was a Wizard's pupil after all.

Where would you find ling?

luinilwen
02-11-2004, 02:28 AM
ok, so I had to look up what "ling" was, and it's either an Oriental shrub, or a kind of fish, and knowing Tolkien I'm guessing it's the former, in which case my guess (resulting from the process of elimination) is Ithilien... ?

if it's the latter then Anduin, maybe? there aren't that many lakes. if it were Eddings I'd guess it were fish :)

hopefully I'm wrong - I'm not very good at making the questions! ;)

The Gaffer
02-11-2004, 05:18 AM
Alas, cruel fate; you're right. It's one of the shrubs from that wonderful description of Ithilien.

luinilwen
02-12-2004, 07:36 PM
gah... what do the orcs call "Mordor"?

told you i'm not good at making up quesitons! :)

*edit* nor questions! :p

The Gaffer
02-13-2004, 04:42 AM
Ooh, good question, can't remember. Not Lugburz?

Radagast The Brown
02-13-2004, 08:44 AM

luinilwen
02-15-2004, 06:13 AM
err i though lugburz was mordor! after all, isn't "burz" black speech for "dark", mordor being "dark land". i thought barad dur meant "tower of rule" or something like that. *shrug*

The Gaffer
02-16-2004, 06:30 PM
