Welcome to Part 3.

Here is the current question:

What was the Bywater joke?

Spock
04-11-2006, 11:33 AM
THREE DAYS and no guess. :( :(

Gordis
04-12-2006, 12:23 PM
The new row of houses in Bywater was called "Sharkey's end". :p

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-12-2006, 01:57 PM
You got it! :D Take it away Gordis.

btw, sharkey, what cool bad guy name huh. Sounds almost mobsterish. :p

Gordis
04-12-2006, 03:12 PM
btw, sharkey, what cool bad guy name huh. Sounds almost mobsterish. :p

Strange name, by the way. One of Conan Doyle's pirates was called that.

But what is good for a pirate, is strange for a wizard. And where in Middle-Earth did hobbits hear about a shark? Or the ruffians (Dunlendings, or orcs), for that matter?

Next question: What weapon did Lobelia use when she attacked the leader of the ruffians?

Spock

Next question: What weapon did Lobelia use when she attacked the leader of the ruffians?

I thought it was an umbrella.

Gordis
04-12-2006, 04:07 PM
I thought it was an umbrella.

It was! :)
Your turn.

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-12-2006, 04:10 PM
Strange name, by the way. One of Conan Doyle's pirates was called that.

But what is good for a pirate, is strange for a wizard. And where in Middle-Earth did hobbits hear about a shark? Or the ruffians (Dunlendings, or orcs), for that matter?
Wasn't it in relation to the orcish word shraku or something? What's good for a pirate is strange for a wizard. :D I could see Saruman with an eye patch and a parrot. Drinking rum in Orthanc. :p

Next question: What weapon did Lobelia use when she attacked the leader of the ruffians?

I thought it was an umbrella.
I think that's right.

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-15-2006, 11:25 AM
Wasn't it in relation to the orcish word shraku or something?
Yes, probably Orcish for Old Man, but Saruman believed it to be a sign of affection.

Spock
04-18-2006, 11:15 AM
Six days have passed and no answer so far. Three have passed since anyone guessed. T.D. would you post a new question???

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-18-2006, 11:25 AM
Spock, it's your question.

Spock
04-18-2006, 11:38 AM
Thanks T.D. for shaking the tree-I'm much to busy with *stuff*......oh well,
here goes :p

ok-partial quote and guess who was the speaker

"....We do not know and our hearts are heavy.......what lies beyond no man knows"

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-18-2006, 11:41 AM
Eomer?

Spock
04-18-2006, 11:53 AM
Eomer?

That took a full 3 minutes to get.

You are on again T.D. :D

Acalewia
04-18-2006, 01:14 PM
TD has the moot record for fastest response to a trivia question :D

Spock
04-18-2006, 01:17 PM
TD has the moot record for fastest response to a trivia question :D

Yeah, when I see TD on line, I just know the sparks are going to fly...in a good way. :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-18-2006, 03:42 PM
3 minutes is nothing, I've done it in one before! ;)

How far is the ride from Erech to Pelargir?

Udukhaturz
04-18-2006, 04:09 PM
93 leagues

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-18-2006, 04:26 PM
Correct.

Udukhaturz
04-18-2006, 05:28 PM
What morbid imagry did Tolkien use to describe the hobbit children's piling up of stones after they had eaten plums in the year of plenty?

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-18-2006, 05:31 PM
Heaped skulls?

Udukhaturz
04-18-2006, 05:57 PM
Heaped skulls?

You got it, TD. Here is the whole quote:

"The fruit was so plentiful that young hobbits very nearly bathed in strawberries and cream; and later they sat on the lawns under the plum-trees and ate, until they had made piles of stones like small pyramids or the heaped skulls of a conqueror, and then they moved on." - The Gray Havens, p. 303

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-18-2006, 06:26 PM
What can Sam see at the Field of Cormallen?

durinsbane2244
04-18-2006, 07:42 PM
the hobbits bringing in the summer harvest and rosie cotton?

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-19-2006, 11:33 AM
Nope

Spock
04-22-2006, 03:25 AM
Wow, end of term for you guys must be slowing post down.

3 days since the question posted............................:(

Udukhaturz
04-22-2006, 04:16 PM
Sam saw his old friends after the Ring was destroyed. That is the only answer I can think of.

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-23-2006, 08:27 AM
Not the answer I'm looking for. Sam specifically says that he can see something.

Acalewia
04-23-2006, 08:15 PM
The sapling from the seed he planted to replace the Party Tree?

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-24-2006, 12:52 PM
No, still not correct.

Spock
04-24-2006, 12:58 PM
What can Sam see at the Field of Cormallen?

Trick question; Sam wasn't at the Field of Cormallen, he was on Mount Doom with Frodo awaiting death but getting picked up by eagles.

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-24-2006, 01:03 PM
Yes he was. The Field of Cormallen was another name given to Ithilien after the Rings destruction, or so I think. If not then I meant Ithilien at the Feast.

Spock
04-24-2006, 01:12 PM
then the game continues past six days as I know not. :(

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-24-2006, 01:16 PM
If no one has posted the correct answer within 24hrs then whoever is on can post a new question.

Udukhaturz
04-24-2006, 04:42 PM
Knights in bright mail and tall guards in silver and black

Spock
04-27-2006, 07:13 AM
72 hrs since TD said 24 hrs. SOMEBODY post a new question please

Udukhaturz
04-27-2006, 04:47 PM
From what part of Gondor is Ioreth's kinswoman?

Gordis
04-27-2006, 05:12 PM
Imloth Melui ?

Udukhaturz
04-27-2006, 06:31 PM
Correct, Gordis, and you get to ask the next question.

anarion
04-27-2006, 11:39 PM
Sam said he saw frodo, and his injured hand i think.
But he also saw gandalf after he awoke.
Was waiting for the next question to be posted.

Gordis
04-28-2006, 03:16 AM
What was the fate of the Lord of Dunharrow?

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-28-2006, 02:25 PM
Sam said he saw frodo, and his injured hand i think.
But he also saw gandalf after he awoke.
Was waiting for the next question to be posted.
That wasn't the answer I was looking for, but it doesn't matter anymore. The question has been made void.

Udukhaturz
04-28-2006, 03:29 PM
He died at Pelennor.

Gordis
04-28-2006, 03:49 PM
Correct, Udu! Your turn :)

Udukhaturz
04-28-2006, 04:59 PM
Gordis, I will be back later with a question. Tied up right now.

By the way, only a few more posts and I can get rid of that designation of "Elven Warrior." Hehehehe... I have been waiting for the day. :D

Udukhaturz
04-28-2006, 06:54 PM
After the Scouring of the Shire, where did Merry and Pippin live?

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-28-2006, 09:13 PM
Crickhollow?

Udukhaturz
04-28-2006, 09:55 PM
Faramir, correct. The next question is yours.

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-28-2006, 10:36 PM
What did Galadriel give Aragorn?

durinsbane2244
04-29-2006, 07:17 PM
a sheath for anduril and the elfstone...

durinsbane2244
04-29-2006, 08:50 PM
as it was pointed out to me by good sir faramir, those are from the FotR....anyway, the banner with the emblems of isildur's house...

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-29-2006, 08:56 PM
You are correct db, your turn.

durinsbane2244
04-29-2006, 08:57 PM
well than...name 3 names of aragorn that are found in this book, aragorn itself not included...

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-30-2006, 02:00 PM
Elfstone, Elessar and Strider (Telcontar).

Gordis
04-30-2006, 02:16 PM
Elfstone=Elessar, Strider=Telcontar and Thorongil=Eagle of the Stars.

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-30-2006, 02:20 PM
The name Thorongil isn't mentioned in RotK according to the index. :)

Gordis
04-30-2006, 02:25 PM
My bad then...

Udukhaturz
04-30-2006, 04:51 PM
For that, Gordis, you get an escorted trip to the Houses of Lamentation, beyond all darkness, where your shriveled mind will be left naked to the Lidless Eye. :D :D :D

Gordis
04-30-2006, 05:58 PM
Oh, Udu, our shriveled minds are always naked to the Lidless Eye! :p :D

Congratulations on your 500 post! :) :) :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-30-2006, 06:10 PM
Yeha, congratulations Udu.

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-30-2006, 06:14 PM
What Faramir called him at the gate of Minas Tirith:

Cheiftain of the Dunedain of Arnor, Captain of the Host of the West, bearer of the Star of the North....that's just three of 'em. :p

Gordis
04-30-2006, 06:21 PM
But those are not "names", only TITLES! :(

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-30-2006, 06:55 PM
Yeah, your right. I guess I'm off to the House of Lamentation now huh? :(

Gordis
04-30-2006, 07:06 PM
Yes... and your flesh shall be devoured  . :D

As for me, I am not of mortal flesh anymore :p .

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-30-2006, 07:10 PM
*kicking rocks as he walks off* Man, I liked my flesh too. :( :D

Udukhaturz
04-30-2006, 07:57 PM
Oh, Udu, our shriveled minds are always naked to the Lidless Eye! :p :D

Congratulations on your 500 post! :) :) :)

Aye, but we always need to be sent to the Houses of Lamentation every once in a while just to thank our Benefactor for this great boon. :) :D

Gordis and TD, thanks for the congratulations. Actually, I never thought I would get to the 500 post mark.

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-01-2006, 03:45 AM
So do I post a question?

Udukhaturz
05-01-2006, 04:41 PM
The way I figure it out is that Durin'sbane2244 asked the last question, "well than...name 3 names of aragorn that are found in this book, aragorn itself not included..." and he is the one who needs to determine who got that correct.

Acalewia
05-01-2006, 05:04 PM
It may be a little late for this, but ...
Estel, Strider, and Elessar

durinsbane2244
05-01-2006, 07:34 PM
er, yes...well..gordis got it, actually...than all this buisness about flesh-eating and 500 posts [nice, by the way, congrats] began and it got a bit sticky...anyway, go ahead gordis!

Gordis
05-02-2006, 05:09 AM
I got it after all?! I did? :p :)
*Stalks out of the Houses of Lamentation proudly*

But, DB, TD was right: Thorongil was not mentioned in the Text of the ROTK.
*Shoves DB into the Black Pit* :( :D

Anyway, here is the next question:

What did Minas Tirith need, according to Legolas?

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-02-2006, 11:30 AM
More gardens.

Gordis
05-02-2006, 12:27 PM
Right.
You go, TD!

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-02-2006, 01:46 PM
What would Merry like first?

Gordis
05-02-2006, 03:57 PM
to smoke?

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-02-2006, 05:45 PM
Close but not correct.

Farimir Captain of Gondor
05-03-2006, 01:23 AM
To rouse the Shire?

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-03-2006, 11:02 AM
Nope, Gor was closer. It says in the same passage she got that from. :)

Gordis
05-03-2006, 12:53 PM
pipe?

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-03-2006, 01:35 PM
Nope, he wanted this before he wanted to smoke.

Gordis
05-03-2006, 04:01 PM
Before? Than that must be FOOD! (He was a hobbit, after all!) :D

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-03-2006, 06:04 PM
Correct, he wanted supper. Your go Gor.

Gordis
05-04-2006, 05:24 PM
When was the Eastern part of Osgiliath won back and the Bridge repaired the last time?

Spock
05-08-2006, 01:07 PM
When was the Eastern part of Osgiliath won back and the Bridge repaired the last time?

2475?

Gordis
05-08-2006, 04:39 PM
2475?
No, it was later. And it is in the main text of ROTK, not the Appendices

Spock
05-10-2006, 01:10 PM
Well 6 days and nobody's guessed it right. Perhaps a new question, Gordis???

Gordis
05-10-2006, 02:46 PM
Well it was at the time when Denethor was young.
Maybe someone else posts the next question? I want a little break :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-10-2006, 05:28 PM
Sonce you were the only Mooter to guess, I'd say you go Spock.

Spock
05-11-2006, 09:42 AM
ok, What time of day did the Rohirrim come to wide grey thickets beyond the eastward side of Amon Din?

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-11-2006, 11:12 AM
Midnight?

Spock
05-11-2006, 01:55 PM
nah :(

Spock
05-14-2006, 10:46 AM
3/three/3, days and no guess? :(

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-14-2006, 11:02 AM
Dusk?

Spock
05-15-2006, 11:36 AM
NOPE- TD you were the most pro active in trying to find an answer-please post the next question.

FYI the answer was 'late in the afternoon'

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-15-2006, 01:09 PM
Eowyn said that she was a shieldmaiden, not a what?

Spock
05-19-2006, 01:12 PM
Yikes, four (4) days and no one has been by with the answer. :(

Spock
05-21-2006, 12:32 PM
six DAYS -6- and no reply :( :(

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-21-2006, 02:17 PM
Okay, Spock, you can post a new question.

I suggest introducing a rule saying if there has been no correct answer within 5 days of the question being posted then someone else can post a new question. Do you agree?

Spock
05-24-2006, 05:09 PM
Okay, Spock, you can post a new question.

Who told whom that Hobbit is what they call themselves? :p

I suggest introducing a rule saying if there has been no correct answer within 5 days of the question being posted then someone else can post a new question. Do you agree?

I think that is most fair. I try to remind people but perhaps by implementing this 5 day rule, things will move along by themselves.

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-24-2006, 05:10 PM
Pippin tells Beregond?

Spock
05-25-2006, 02:48 PM
Pippin tells Beregond?

yes Indeed. :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-25-2006, 02:56 PM

durinsbane2244
05-28-2006, 04:19 PM
she gave frodo back bag end, eh?

Spock
05-28-2006, 08:56 PM

Telcontar_Dunedain
05-29-2006, 04:45 PM
What did Gandalf say he wold only allow one of?

durinsbane2244
06-03-2006, 02:27 PM
i don't know, but maybe we should try another one...

Telcontar_Dunedain
06-04-2006, 03:11 PM
Okay, you can post a question DB.

durinsbane2244
06-04-2006, 03:49 PM
ok. what does saruman think "sharky" means?

Radagast The Brown
06-04-2006, 04:08 PM

durinsbane2244
06-04-2006, 04:09 PM
nope.

Telcontar_Dunedain
06-05-2006, 12:30 PM

durinsbane2244
06-11-2006, 10:24 PM

Telcontar_Dunedain

durinsbane2244

Telcontar_Dunedain

correct. go ahead.

Count Comfect
06-14-2006, 12:33 AM
Shoot. If only I had a copy of the book around me right now...

What happens to Merry's sword when he stabs the Nazgul?

durinsbane2244
06-14-2006, 12:47 AM
it disinigrates? either that or snaps...

Count Comfect
06-14-2006, 03:11 AM
Mhm...

jammi567
06-14-2006, 06:34 AM
it doesn't say what happened to Merry's sword, only what happened to Eowyn's. Just to let you know.

Count Comfect
06-14-2006, 05:17 PM
"All swords perish"
Merry's sword is a sword
Therefore, Merry's sword perishes.

jammi567
06-14-2006, 05:26 PM
doesn't say what actually happens to it ie snap, disindegrate, melt etc.

Count Comfect
06-14-2006, 06:35 PM
Right. Hence, I took the first answer along those lines.

durinsbane2244
06-14-2006, 09:36 PM
er...right...my go than...what sword was made for a specific moment, and when was this moment?

Telcontar_Dunedain
06-16-2006, 03:08 PM
Yes it does say.

"And behold! there lay his weapon, but the blade was smoking like a dry branch that has been thrust in a fire; and as he watched it, it writhed and withered and was consumed."

Spock
06-21-2006, 08:24 PM
5 days and we still are waiting for clarification on an answer or a new question

Count Comfect
06-21-2006, 08:32 PM
I still say let durinsbane ask the next question.

Spock
06-21-2006, 08:36 PM
It's up to TD & DB to work this one out. The rest of us can go have a cup of tea until then. :D

durinsbane2244
06-26-2006, 07:26 PM

durinsbane2244
06-27-2006, 01:45 AM

ringbearer
06-27-2006, 01:50 AM
I was wrong...forgot Isildur...I'll need some time to think of a question...Or I can pass the turn, if need be.

Spock
07-03-2006, 06:11 PM
OK 5 more days have passed--------------question please............anyone :(

jammi567
07-04-2006, 02:01 PM

07-04-2006, 05:19 PM

jammi567
07-04-2006, 07:19 PM

Serenoli
08-17-2006, 01:18 PM

jammi567
08-17-2006, 04:13 PM
just after distroying the ring.

Bullroarer
08-17-2006, 04:18 PM
There was a roar and a great confusion of noise. Fires leaped up and licked the roof. The throbbing grew to a great tumult, and the Mountain shook. Sam ran to Frodo and picked him up and carried him out to the door. And there upon the dark threshold of the Sammath Naur, high above the plains of Mordor, such wonder and terror came on him that he stood still forgetting all else, and gazed as one turned to stone.

A brief vision...

"Yes," said Frodo. "But do you remember Gandalf's words: Even Gollum may have something yet to do? But for him, Sam, I could not have destroyed the Ring. The Quest would have been in vain, even at the bitter end. So let us forgive him! For the Quest is avhieved, and now all is over. I am glad you are here with me. Here at the end of all things, Sam."

durinsbane2244
08-17-2006, 04:56 PM
bullroarer got it...good with the quotes, you are!

jammi567
08-17-2006, 05:03 PM

durinsbane2244
08-17-2006, 05:07 PM
because you did not, in fact, post the correct answer.

jammi567
08-17-2006, 05:24 PM
i said that frodo said that he was glad to have sam was after the ring was distroyed. Bullroarer said the same thing, but with a direct quote.

Bullroarer
08-17-2006, 08:44 PM
The question was "where" not "when".

Soon after Pippin left for Tookland, messangers from Hobbiton-way came onto the scene and stating "They are coming!" referring to a band of ruffians on the way. However, a number of these folk had reportedly parted from the group and headed in the other direction. How many ruffians left the main group, and to where were they headed?

Spock
08-30-2006, 07:38 AM
:( :( :(

Serenoli
09-06-2006, 12:27 AM
Well, I looked it up, and two left the band, to go to Waymeet to get more of the gang.

Ok, new question (since, its been, what, at least two weeks, and looks like its a free-for-all): Name the lord of Harrowdale

Spock
09-15-2006, 01:19 PM
This has gone on for almost ONE MONTH. If Serenoli will please post a new question we can move on. :(

Serenoli
09-16-2006, 03:20 AM
Ok, here's an easy one (I think). What were the two gifts that Arwen gave to Frodo before he left for the Shire?

durinsbane2244
09-16-2006, 07:42 AM
hm...i know one was the pendant, was the other her place on the ship?

Serenoli
09-17-2006, 07:29 AM
Right in one! :)

Spock
09-24-2006, 12:13 PM
Seven Days And No New Question ????????????????????

:( :(

Spock
09-24-2006, 12:16 PM
7 DAYS AGO YOU GOT THE CORRECT ANSWER

please post a new question :)

Quendendil
09-25-2006, 04:33 PM
This comes from FotR, but see if you can get it anyway. What are Haldir's brothers names?

jammi567
09-25-2006, 04:41 PM
That's not allowed. You have to pick a question from the relevent book, otherwise, it doesn't count. that's why we have three different quizes for the different books. And anyway, it's durinsbane's turn.

durinsbane2244
09-25-2006, 08:39 PM
holy s*** batman! i had no idea it was mine!

um...what to occasions get mr. frodo sick? (post mt. doom)

jammi567
09-26-2006, 02:56 AM
Now you can try and answer the question, and if you get it right, you can post post your question from the relevent book, Quendendil.

Acalewia
09-28-2006, 10:27 AM
