[EDIT by Eärniel] The old thread reached the 1000 replies mark and is closed. The original thread was started by Lizra. Here are the rules:
Ask a trivia question about "The Fellowship of the Ring". Whoever answers correctly shall ask the next question.
GAME RULES
........All answers to questions must be found in Fellowship of the Ring. Please give the current "question asker' two days (48 hours) to tell players if any of the answers given are correct. The question "asker" should give a hint if neccessary (four wrong answers). Of course, as soon as the current question "asker" tells you that you have answered his/her question correctly, you may ask a new one................
O.K., thanks Udu.
Where was it that Merry said was the centre from which all the queerness comes? As it were? :D ;)
Gordis
03-08-2006, 07:03 AM

Lotesse
03-10-2006, 10:24 PM
Yes, Gordis; correct. My bad for holding you up for two days, usually that never happens. :o
Gordis
03-11-2006, 07:34 AM
No problem, Lotesse :)
My next question:
Whose traces have Aragorn and the hobbits detected in the dell at Weathertop?
Telcontar_Dunedain
03-11-2006, 10:50 AM
Gandalfs.
Gordis
03-11-2006, 11:09 AM
Not only his, TD. Please, provide a complete answer. :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
03-11-2006, 11:21 AM
Ok, Gandalf and his fight with the Nazgûl.
Gordis
03-11-2006, 11:28 AM
Sorry, but no, TD.
I meant several groups of people the traces of whose presence were detectable in the grassy DELL at Weathertop
Yes, one was Gandalf
Who else?
Telcontar_Dunedain
03-11-2006, 11:30 AM
The Nazgûl?
Gordis
03-11-2006, 11:32 AM
You are almost there, TD. :)
1.Gandalf (the remnants of the recent fire)
2. Nazgul - footprints of heavy boots
3. ???
Farimir Captain of Gondor
03-11-2006, 01:09 PM
You are almost there, TD. :)
1.Gandalf (the remnants of the recent fire)
2. Nazgul - footprints of heavy boots
3. ???
I'm going to take a guess and if I'm right I think the next question should go to TD seeing he got most of it first. :)
Is it the wood left behind by the Rangers?
Gordis
03-11-2006, 01:18 PM
Yes, exactly, now all the three answers are there.
Next question!
Telcontar_Dunedain
03-11-2006, 02:02 PM
I'm going to take a guess and if I'm right I think the next question should go to TD seeing he got most of it first. :)
No no. You got the last part so you go. :)
Farimir Captain of Gondor
03-11-2006, 02:12 PM
No no. You got the last part so you go. :)
Well thank you TD :D . Okay, if i ask a question already asked you'll have to forgive me. :)
Who is it that ask to hear more about Gil-galad?
durinsbane2244
03-11-2006, 02:32 PM
the hobbits...
Farimir Captain of Gondor
03-11-2006, 02:34 PM

Farimir Captain of Gondor
03-11-2006, 02:40 PM
Well thank you TD :D . Okay, if i ask a question already asked you'll have to forgive me. :)
Who is it that ask to hear more about Gil-galad?
Now that I read it the question is a little vague so I'll rephrase:
Who tells Sam to sing more about Gil-galad?
Telcontar_Dunedain
03-11-2006, 03:05 PM
Merry.
Farimir Captain of Gondor
03-11-2006, 03:28 PM
Merry.
You are correct TD. Only right you get to ask the next question considering I pretty much stole the last one from you. :p :D
Telcontar_Dunedain
03-14-2006, 12:28 PM
What does Frodo think is not quite the right word?
mithrand1r
03-14-2006, 06:36 PM
What does Frodo think is not quite the right word?
I think "spy" is not the right word.
Telcontar_Dunedain
03-14-2006, 07:27 PM
Nope.
Serenoli
03-15-2006, 09:54 AM
'fond' is not the right word... when describing how he feels about Strider.
Telcontar_Dunedain
03-16-2006, 01:45 PM
Correct
Serenoli
03-17-2006, 01:30 PM
Who went to find the Sun?
Gordis
03-17-2006, 04:45 PM
Legolas
Serenoli
03-18-2006, 10:04 AM
You have found your answer, whether or not Legolas found his Sun! May I trouble you to ask the next question? :)
Gordis
03-18-2006, 03:53 PM
Thanks, Serenoli. No trouble at all.
What two villages were situated just East of Bree?
Udukhaturz
03-18-2006, 06:02 PM
Combe and Staddle
Gordis
03-19-2006, 03:44 AM
Yes. Now that I think better about it, there was also a third one - Archet.
Your question, Udu!
Udukhaturz
03-19-2006, 02:19 PM
The pillars of the First Hall of Moria were carved in what design?
Gordis
03-19-2006, 05:54 PM
"They were carved like boles of mighty trees whose boughs upheld the roof with a branching tracery of stone. Their stems were smooth and black, but a red glow was darkly mirrored in their sides."
That must be it, unless it is the wrong Hall...
Udukhaturz
03-19-2006, 06:34 PM
Gordis, that is correct. Yours is the next question to ask.
Gordis
03-19-2006, 06:46 PM
According to Merry, what (who) was Bilbo's downfall? :)
Acalewia
03-19-2006, 07:11 PM
The Sacksville-Bagginses?
Gordis
03-19-2006, 07:33 PM
Correct. Your turn, Acalewia!
BTW, I like your avvie... :) So much better than the old one.
Acalewia
03-19-2006, 07:50 PM

Gimli.
Gordis
03-19-2006, 08:03 PM

Acalewia
03-19-2006, 08:40 PM
Gordis got it! True but I was quoting :D Ur go!
Gordis
03-20-2006, 04:53 AM
From the summit of Weathertop, Strider and hobbits were witnessing the meeting of the Black Riders down on the road.
How many there were and from what direction were they coming?
Spock
03-20-2006, 03:21 PM
Two were going west while three were going east.
Gordis
03-20-2006, 10:34 PM
Correct. Your turn.
Spock
03-21-2006, 12:42 PM
Who said..."No one ever has luck in there"?
Gandalfthegray
03-22-2006, 02:33 AM
Elrond
Telcontar_Dunedain
03-22-2006, 08:37 AM
Fatty Bolger.
Spock
03-22-2006, 12:01 PM
Fatty Bolger.
Well yes he was *called* that but I had hoped for his actual name.
Since it was my fault, you can post the next question. :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
03-22-2006, 02:48 PM
Fredegar. ;)
What had Aragorn planned to do with his sword?
Spock
03-22-2006, 02:57 PM

Spock
04-01-2006, 11:44 AM

Spock
04-05-2006, 11:46 AM

Who said "Oh! That was poetry"
and
in relation to what.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS a two parter :p
Spock
04-08-2006, 11:19 AM
IN VIEW OF THE LACK OF INTEREST IN THIS TOPIC, I'LL TEMPORARILY CLOSE THIS TOPIC.

Pippin in relation to starting early the next morning? :)
Spock
04-08-2006, 10:43 PM
Pippin in relation to starting early the next morning? :)
Yes, that and the song based upon one Bilbo had done up which Frodo had just recited.
Your go Meriadoc!
Meriadoc Brandybuck
04-08-2006, 10:51 PM
:)
What did Merry say (that he didn't remember saying) to Nob after Nob found him lying on the Road in Bree?
Spock
04-08-2006, 11:06 PM
It's just a flesh wound.
................nit..............nit :p
Serenoli
04-09-2006, 06:19 AM
I thought I had fallen into deep water.
Meriadoc Brandybuck
04-09-2006, 02:24 PM

I thought I had fallen into deep water.
Yes. ;)
Serenoli
04-10-2006, 11:02 AM
Here's my question:
Caution is one thing. What is another?
I may not be here to tell the answer, so here it is: (don't cheat!)
wavering... according to Strider, anyways
Spock
04-14-2006, 08:26 PM
Well, no one has cheated and no one has guessed. So how about a new question....since no one is/has been around, I give it a shot:
"What would Sam have liked to have gotten instructions on"?
Udukhaturz
04-14-2006, 08:43 PM
Making Elven ropes?
Spock
04-14-2006, 08:51 PM
Making Elven ropes?
WELL I AM HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE YOU HAVE IT......IN ONE OF THE SHORTEST PERIODS OF TIME ON RECORD.
HOORAY
You go! :D
and now I'm off to watch Dr. Who.
Udukhaturz
04-15-2006, 01:03 AM
*pats myself on the back*
What did Old Man Willow threaten to do to the hobbits if Sam set him on fire?
Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-15-2006, 02:13 AM
*pats myself on the back*
What did Old Man Willow threaten to do to the hobbits if Sam set him on fire?
He threatened to squeeze one of the hobbits in two. I think it was Merry.
Udukhaturz
04-15-2006, 01:34 PM
That is correct. You get to ask the next question.
Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-15-2006, 10:09 PM
Who does Elrond reward for his cheek and what was the reward?
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-16-2006, 07:00 AM
Sam and by sending him with Frodo.
Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-16-2006, 08:13 AM
Sam and by sending him with Frodo.
Yep. Your go. :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-16-2006, 08:49 AM
What does Sauron not yet know?
Acalewia
04-16-2006, 02:10 PM
the Sword That Was Broken has been reforged?
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-16-2006, 03:35 PM
Nope.
durinsbane2244
04-16-2006, 07:36 PM
er...who has the ring? where it is? that they mean to destroy it? the sqaure root of pie?
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-17-2006, 04:17 AM
Not the answer I'm looking for.
Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-17-2006, 08:06 AM
Shot in the dark: That the heir of Elendil has come forth?
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-17-2006, 08:20 AM
Nope. One of DB's answers was close.
Acalewia
04-17-2006, 03:17 PM
They mean to destroy the Ring?
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-17-2006, 03:28 PM
Nope.
Acalewia
04-17-2006, 04:33 PM
The square root of pi? :D j/k
Where the Ring is?
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-17-2006, 04:46 PM
Nope. Your thinking along the right lines but your own the wrong track.
Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-17-2006, 05:07 PM
I was thinkin it was pi too, but; I thought he didn't know how to make an apple pie. :D
I'm going to go with: Who is in possession of the Ring.
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-17-2006, 05:37 PM
Still no, but that is the closest anyone has come so far.
Acalewia
04-17-2006, 05:43 PM
What creature is in possesion of the Ring?
Spock
04-17-2006, 08:31 PM
What does Sauron not yet know?
That the ring is being brought to Mordor for destruction by Frodo?
durinsbane2244
04-17-2006, 11:41 PM
a hobbit has the ring? [same as alcalewia, she can have it if right]
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-18-2006, 11:27 AM
Still no.
durinsbane2244
04-18-2006, 12:46 PM
hm...they are in a fellowship led by gandalf? what MANNER of creature is in posession of the ring? the possesor doesn't want to use it?
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-18-2006, 03:48 PM
Nope. I'll give it another 48 hours. If no one has given the correct answer by then, I'll ask someone else to post a question.
Gordis
04-18-2006, 04:37 PM
Sauron suspects but does not know that Galadriel has Nenya?
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-18-2006, 05:00 PM
Correct. Your go Gordis.
Gordis
04-18-2006, 05:33 PM
Incredible! It was just out of my head! :) By the way, I remembered it because of its weirdness. Really, couldn't Sauron put 2 and 2 together? Of course Gasladriel had the Ring! How else would she make an enchanted realm? :D
Ok, next question.
What is the same in the Shire and in Wilderland, or ought to be?
Spock
04-22-2006, 03:26 AM
HEY, 4 days and no one has answered  .....................perhaps a new question
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-22-2006, 06:13 AM
Oh, the moon?
Gordis
04-22-2006, 05:39 PM
:) :) :)
Yes, the fair Ithil. ;)
Your turn, TD!
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-23-2006, 08:28 AM
Ok, an easy one. Name the all the gifts that Galadriel gave to the Fellowship.
Udukhaturz
04-23-2006, 07:16 PM
A sheath for Andúril and the Elfstone for Aragorn (although it could be argued that the latter was given by Arwen); a golden belt for Boromir; silver belts to Merry and Pippin; to Legolas a bow and quiver; to Sam a box of dirt; three of her hairs for Gimli; a crystal phial for Frodo.
durinsbane2244
04-23-2006, 09:15 PM
all that plus a mallorn seed for sam, and technically, they clothed gandalf in white...
Udukhaturz
04-24-2006, 12:13 AM
There would also be food and drink. What about that rope that Sam had, and the elven cloaks? What else did those freeloaders get? *grins*
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-24-2006, 12:14 PM
Those freeloaders took a little bit more.
Udukhaturz
04-24-2006, 04:03 PM
Another gift from "Galadriel's Free Soup Kitchen and Hand-Me-Down Store" was lembas.
Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-24-2006, 06:26 PM
I guess the broaches would count too. And the boats. And a place to sleep.
Acalewia
04-24-2006, 06:49 PM
And the cloaks
Udukhaturz
04-24-2006, 07:10 PM
Yes, those boats... I can see a sign, "Galadriel's Outfitters - We supply everything for camping, hunting, boating and fishing trips. See us first for all your camping needs."
Gordis
04-25-2006, 02:04 AM
 :D :D
Udukhaturz
04-25-2006, 05:41 PM
Now we need to get TD to come back and rule on who gets to ask the next question. I would rather that someone else get the honor. :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
04-27-2006, 11:17 AM
Acally got the last part so it is your go.
durinsbane2244
05-01-2006, 07:39 PM
someone though...please...go....
Acalewia
05-01-2006, 08:36 PM
O sorry guys.
What did Sam see in the Mirrior of Galadriel?
durinsbane2244
05-01-2006, 08:51 PM
more specifically, the shire being burned and bashed and such, and his ol' gaffer turned out o' bagshot row! and i think maybe bagshot row dug up...
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-02-2006, 11:32 AM
And Frodo 'asleep' leaning on a rock.
Acalewia
05-03-2006, 01:04 PM
TD got the rest of it.
Your go
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-03-2006, 01:30 PM
What is written upon Elrond's face?
Spock
05-08-2006, 07:56 AM
Five days and my tired brain and sleepy eyes still don't know the answer. :(
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-08-2006, 11:33 AM
Well in that case you can go Spock.
Spock
05-08-2006, 01:00 PM
After Gildor gave advice; how soon could the new group get moving?
hope this isn't too vague
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-08-2006, 01:21 PM
The next morning?
Spock
05-08-2006, 01:45 PM
sorry, nope :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-08-2006, 02:02 PM
Oh, they could be off in one hour.
Spock
05-09-2006, 12:56 PM
Oh, they could be off in one hour.
YES! :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-09-2006, 01:11 PM
What were orcs issuing out of?
Acalewia
05-09-2006, 01:16 PM
Isengard?
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-09-2006, 01:17 PM
Nope.
Gordis
05-09-2006, 02:33 PM
Caves of Misty Mountains?
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-09-2006, 02:42 PM
Not specifically caves, but Misty Mountains is correct. Your go Gor.
Gordis
05-09-2006, 02:59 PM
Thanks, TD. :)
"Long tales are ... what?"
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-09-2006, 03:22 PM
Not known to many?
Gordis
05-09-2006, 04:04 PM
nope! :)
Spock
05-13-2006, 11:06 AM
Four days and no correct answer. :(
Gordis
05-14-2006, 02:05 PM
Long tales are thirsty! :) :p
Whoever feels like it, ask a new question :)
durinsbane2244
05-14-2006, 02:48 PM
alright then, what was gandalf's touch in the river?
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-14-2006, 04:15 PM
The white horse in flood.
durinsbane2244
05-14-2006, 04:19 PM
and?
the white riders on the horses backs?
durinsbane2244
05-15-2006, 03:37 PM
and?
durinsbane2244
05-16-2006, 04:44 PM
nope
mithrand1r
05-16-2006, 08:24 PM

The sounds of horses with the images of white horses. ;)
durinsbane2244
05-17-2006, 04:06 PM
sam got it, the rolling boulders! go...
What is the name of the chamber in which Balin's tomb is kept.
mithrand1r
05-18-2006, 08:46 AM
What is the name of the chamber in which Balin's tomb is kept.
IIRC, it is the Chamber of Mazarbul.
Right you are mithrand1r, it is now your turn.
mithrand1r
05-20-2006, 08:44 AM
Right you are mithrand1r, it is now your turn.
Thanks.
Where did Sam first see Anarion?
Spock
05-22-2006, 10:33 AM
Thanks.
Where did Sam first see Anarion?
Most curious. Denethor was the Steward of the House of Anarion.
Anarion defended Osgiliath and later fought with the Last Alliance as they attacked Mordor.
If so, then Sam could not have met him in "TFOTR" book.
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-22-2006, 10:40 AM
Argonath?
mithrand1r
05-22-2006, 03:52 PM
Argonath?
Correct.
I was hoping it would be a challenging question. Two days till a reply is hopefully a good sign that the question was a good challenge.
Your turn.
Spock
05-22-2006, 04:15 PM
TD is great with coming up with obscure stuff. I racked my tiny brain and couldn't remember nor find it anywhere. GOOD GOING TD! :)
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-23-2006, 11:08 AM
Thanks Spock.
What did Frodo feel caught between?
Acalewia
05-23-2006, 12:53 PM
a rock and a hard place :D
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-23-2006, 12:59 PM
Nope.
durinsbane2244
05-23-2006, 01:50 PM
hm...i know it's when he is speared by the orc chieftan...hammer and anvil? i believe so...
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-23-2006, 02:24 PM
You believe right. Your go DB.
durinsbane2244
05-23-2006, 02:27 PM
righto...where does aragorn seem to look into the distance and see something that wasn't there?
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-23-2006, 02:28 PM
Cerin Amroth.
durinsbane2244
05-23-2006, 04:09 PM
right you are and quick about it, too!
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-23-2006, 04:26 PM
Quick one. What did he say to the 'invisible' figure?
durinsbane2244
05-23-2006, 04:30 PM
hm...if only i had my book here...i suppose it was someone wearing the ring...
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-23-2006, 04:34 PM
No, he was recalling something that had happened 38 years ago. :)
durinsbane2244
05-23-2006, 08:32 PM
hm...that's gotta be around...2970ish...so he was probably talking about arwen...huh...i SHOULD go get my book...
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-24-2006, 11:09 AM
He was, but what did he say?
durinsbane2244
05-24-2006, 11:13 AM
again...i SHOULD go get my book...i do have backround though  ;)
Acalewia
05-24-2006, 01:37 PM
I though I strayed into a dream?
Telcontar_Dunedain

Since noone else volunteered, I'll put a question forward.

I am thinking of a specific individual.

Since noone else volunteered, I'll put a question forward.
Who was surprised by what he saw under a tree?
I am thinking of a specific individual.
The answer that I was looking for is the fox.
It is from when the hobbits first started their journey from Bag End.
"Hobbits!" he thought. "Well, what next? I have heard of strange doings in this land, but I have seldom heard of a hobbit sleeping out of doors under a tree. Three of them! There's something mighty queer behind this." He was quite right, but he never found out any more about it.
I took the text's use of exclamation points to impy surprise on the part of the fox.
Anyone else may ask the next question.

Meanwhile, in San Francisco the following story was over heard . . .
================================================== ====
This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done

Bonus Math for anyone interested.
For Right Traingles
SOH-CAH-TOA
SOH = Sine is the Opposite over the Hypotenuse. (Sin = Opp/Hyp)
CAH = Cosine is the Adjacent over the Hypotenuse. (Cos = Adj/Hyp)
TOA = Tangent is the Opposite over the Adjacent. (Tan = Opp/Adj)
http://home.xnet.com/~fidler/triton/math/review/mat114/right/right1.gif
For angle A:
Sin = a/c
Cos = b/c
Tan = a/b
Tan = Sin/Cos = (a/c)/(b\c) = a\b
PS: is there a way to get an image posted without using the link location of the image? (You may pm me if you do not want to post this in the tread.)

How did Aragorn know Underhill wasn't Frodo's name?
He overheard the hobbits speaking before they entered Bree about how they must leave the name of Baggins behind. If a name must be used it should be Underhill. Gandalf also told Arragorn to be on the lookout for hobbits using the name of Underhill.
(I am paraphrasing here since I cannot remember the exact quote at the momment.)

second part: my real name is James, and people do that mainly to annoy me, and then i get pissed off at them for a while
third part: that's ok, just so long as it doesn't happen again (see above)
hmmm.... well. Frodo has the dream in which his three companions are on the ground with a sword across their necks. Then the big hand comes and i think frodo fights the hand off, although i probably am wrong, it has been a while since i last read FotR.
