We now await Telcontar_Dunedain posting of the next question

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-06-2005, 11:19 AM
What two strongholds did Aragorn say Helms Deep was stronger than?

Lotesse
10-06-2005, 10:54 PM
Edoras or Dunharrow? BTW, this is a damn good question, TD! :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-07-2005, 11:48 AM
A damn good answer aswell. Your go Lotesse. :)

Lotesse
10-07-2005, 12:47 PM
Thanx, TD! O.K., a 2-part question:

What was the proper name of King Theoden's sword, and where had his sword been kept whilst Theoden was under that awful mind-poisoning spell? (did I word that right? i hope so  )

Spock
10-07-2005, 01:35 PM
Gee, wormtongue hid it in a chest I think , it was named Herugrim

Lotesse
10-09-2005, 12:24 PM
Ah! Mais oui; take it away, Spock!

Spock
10-09-2005, 05:36 PM
Where was the cry "Ai-oi" heard?

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-10-2005, 11:24 AM
The Deeping Wall?

Spock
10-10-2005, 12:04 PM
Excellent, T.D. You go.

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-10-2005, 12:32 PM
Thanks.
At Helms Deep, how many Orcs had Gimli killed, the second time we are told his score?

Rconsole
10-10-2005, 04:56 PM
was it 17? that might have been the first time though....

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-10-2005, 04:57 PM
No, it wasn't 17.

rohirrim TR
10-10-2005, 05:10 PM
two it was...i think

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-11-2005, 11:21 AM
No, not two.

Lotesse
10-12-2005, 10:13 PM
For some reason I instantly think the number "21". I know why; it's because of seeing the movie, the part where John Rhys-Davies is counting his kills out loud, and goes "Twenty-one!" in that Scottish-style accent he uses. It's STUCK in my head like that.

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-13-2005, 02:11 PM
Correct. Your go Lotesse

Lotesse
10-17-2005, 03:44 PM
Sorry 4 such the long wait, you guys - you know, I just assumed I was incorrect & forgot all about it! So I was right - trip on that! O.K., new question...

Frodo tells Faramir that Aragorn was the leader of their Company from where to where?

Spock
10-17-2005, 03:46 PM
"whose the leader of the club......." MICKEY MOUSE!! :) :)

Rconsole
10-17-2005, 03:51 PM
from Bree to Rivendell?

Lotesse
10-17-2005, 03:56 PM
Nope!

rohirrim TR
10-17-2005, 05:05 PM
from moria to...amon hen?

Lotesse
10-17-2005, 06:10 PM
Nyet!

Radagast The Brown
10-17-2005, 06:12 PM
To the Rauros?

Lotesse
10-17-2005, 06:15 PM
It's a two part question, Raddy - from where to where? :)

Radagast The Brown
10-17-2005, 06:59 PM
Well I thought Moria was rather obvious. :p

Lotesse
10-17-2005, 07:29 PM
I wanted the answer together; didn't want to help hint at separate answer replies. :) It's all or nothin' baby!

Anyway - c'est vrai, so it's all yours Radagast! :)

Radagast The Brown
10-17-2005, 07:45 PM
What does Gollum say happened to him after he climbed the tree in the elf-country?

Rconsole
10-17-2005, 08:30 PM
he said that he couldn't wash the stink out of his hands, does that qualify?

Radagast The Brown
10-17-2005, 08:47 PM
Aye. Your turn. :)

Rconsole
10-18-2005, 09:35 PM
In what order were Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas disarmed by Gandalf?

Serenoli
10-19-2005, 06:35 AM
Easy! Gimli, Aragorn and then Legolas.

Rconsole
10-19-2005, 07:27 AM
lol I knew that would be the first guess, Nope, read carefully

Spock
10-19-2005, 12:03 PM
First Legolas bow fell, and then Gimli stood still as stone....it doesn't mention Aragorn-only in the Movie was he disarmed.

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-19-2005, 12:14 PM
Actually I think it does mention that Anduril blazed like a fire. So it would be Legolas, Gimli and then Aragorn.

Spock
10-19-2005, 12:38 PM
First Legolas bow fell, and then Gimli stood still as stone....it doesn't mention Aragorn-only in the Movie was he disarmed.

OK, that was the first mention in the book.

The second mention, after they had started talking with him says that'

"Gimli's axe leaped from his grasp, the sword of Aragorn, stiff in his motionless hand blazed with fire, Legolas gave a great shout and shot an wrrot high into the air; it vanished in a flash of flame".

So Gimli, Aragorn and Legolas is my FINAL ANSWER :D

Rconsole
10-19-2005, 04:01 PM
First Legolas bow fell, and then Gimli stood still as stone....it doesn't mention Aragorn-only in the Movie was he disarmed.

thats right, I actually misread the book, it never says aragorn was disarmed just that Anduril blazed with a sudden fire, So Spock your first answer is right :)

Spock
10-19-2005, 07:15 PM
Who said " I don't trust you little swine".

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-20-2005, 03:04 AM
Sam?

Spock
10-20-2005, 06:48 AM
Nope

The Witch-King of Angmar
10-20-2005, 08:52 AM
Was it Ugluk?

Spock
10-20-2005, 12:45 PM
Was it Ugluk?

Yes. :)

Spock
10-24-2005, 12:38 PM
I've PM'd wkoa AND we'll give him 24hrs before asking someone else to post a question.
I'm sorry I missed this posts absence for so long

Lotesse
10-24-2005, 07:08 PM
Can you make a new question for us, Spock? :)

Curubethion
10-24-2005, 07:09 PM
I guess I have to sympathize with WK here...:D but I think the rules state that Spock could post a question.

Spock
10-25-2005, 01:44 AM
Well I did state, in post # 43, that I'd wait 24hrs., so we wait until roughly 1pm before I'll post the next question.

The Witch-King of Angmar
10-25-2005, 02:08 AM
sorry about the wait guys, my internet has been playing up...

What is the name given to the cave behind the waterfall that spilled into the Forbidden Pool?

Curubethion
10-25-2005, 10:48 PM
Hmm...Henneth Annun?

The Witch-King of Angmar
10-26-2005, 01:27 AM
Yep you go

Curubethion
10-26-2005, 10:36 PM
Ok...what can I do...what was suggested to have frayed on the edge of a rock in Emyn Muil?

Serenoli
10-27-2005, 05:14 AM
The elven rope that Sam and Frodo used to get down the cliff in Emyn Muil, because it came down after them.

Spock
10-27-2005, 10:42 AM
Ok...what can I do...what was suggested to have frayed on the edge of a rock in Emyn Muil?

Gee, it wasn't the rope 'cause when Sam 'called the rope' and it untied itself, Frodo said "the rope must have broken-frayed on the rock-edge, I expect". To which Sam said "I bet it didn't" and then examined the ends and stated "nor it hasn't neither, not a strand!"

very good, ya got me, I missed the word "suggested" :o

Lotesse
10-27-2005, 06:46 PM
What Spock said. The only possibility I could come up with would be someone's coat, or cloak or something, but I don't remember ever having read about any clothing getting frayed, either... New question, please. :)

Curubethion
10-27-2005, 08:54 PM
Spock got it.
It appears there's been a little bit of ambiguity...when I said "suggested", I meant "suggested by Sam", as opposed to "suggested by Tolkien"...who cares, your turn. :D

The Witch-King of Angmar
10-28-2005, 03:40 AM
Wouldn't it be Serenoli? that answer was right...

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-28-2005, 05:05 AM
Yes, Serenoli did give the correct answer first. Or was that no correct?

The Witch-King of Angmar
10-28-2005, 07:58 AM
It was correct, the word "suggested" just wasn't drawn attention to...

Spock
10-28-2005, 10:40 AM
....taps fingers on keyboard.....

I'll wait a day and see if "S" responds, otherwise, I'll take it. ;)

Serenoli
10-28-2005, 04:14 PM
I did get it right, and I was debating internally whether to be indignantly silent, or indignantly voluble  . Here's my question, then:

"What customs do the men of Gondor follow before a meal?" [three are mentioned]

Lotesse
10-28-2005, 04:30 PM
They pause for a moment of silence, while looking West. I can't remember a third, unless it is that they wash their hands in the bowl of water which Sam washed his face with!

The Witch-King of Angmar
10-28-2005, 08:19 PM
They pause for a moment of silence, while looking West, Bow to there host and wash their face?

Serenoli
10-28-2005, 11:49 PM
First two correct, third wrong

Valandil
10-29-2005, 02:17 AM
The pausing and looking West is before the meal, IIRC - after the meal they RISE and thank their host. :)

(the Hobbits of the Shire do the second two)

Spock
10-29-2005, 03:26 AM
First-turn and face the west
Second- bow to the host
Third-after eating,Rise and thank the host

The Witch-King of Angmar
10-29-2005, 09:24 AM
But thanking is after the meal, 'S' said before...

Rise to face the west, bow to the host, then drink wine before eating?

Serenoli
10-29-2005, 11:01 AM
Oh dear, Witch King, my mistake :o , I really wanted the answers that Valandil and Spock gave, but I never thought much about 'after' or 'before'. Since, I made the mistake, I'll give it to you. you got two-thirds right anyway :)

Spock
10-29-2005, 11:12 AM
A most fair decision. :)

The Witch-King of Angmar
10-29-2005, 08:05 PM
Oh... Thanks... :D

How does Faramir find out Frodo has the One Ring?

Lotesse
10-29-2005, 08:11 PM
Sam accidentally mentions it, or alludes to it, while they were all talking at Henneth Annun.

The Witch-King of Angmar
10-31-2005, 01:33 AM
Dang i need to think of harder questions... your turn :(

Lotesse
10-31-2005, 06:25 PM
What did Grishnakh say was "the apple of the Great Eye?"

Telcontar_Dunedain
10-31-2005, 06:48 PM
The Nazgûl

Lotesse
10-31-2005, 07:21 PM
Of COURSE my fellow Nazgul would get this one right!! It's all yours, TD! :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-02-2005, 06:51 PM
And by that he obviously meant Khamûl! ;)

What did Gandalf not know about Frodo's departure from the Fellowship?

Rconsole
11-02-2005, 07:06 PM
And by that he obviously meant Khamûl! ;)

What did Gandalf not know about Frodo's departure from the Fellowship?

that Sam went with Frodo?

Bombadillo
11-03-2005, 12:06 AM
I think that he wasn't being pursued.

Lotesse
11-03-2005, 12:42 AM
That Frodo had packed a nine-iron with him, in case anything UNTOWARD were to happen? Sorry- just got back from a Chianti-infused dinner, carry on... :D

Spock
11-03-2005, 08:04 AM
That he had waited long past the time Gandalf had wanted him to leave the Shire.

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-03-2005, 01:12 PM
Rconsole is correct.
Spock, that was in FotR!

Spock
11-03-2005, 01:26 PM
Rconsole is correct.
Spock, that was in FotR!

of course it was...my desk has way too much stuff on it.

Spock
11-05-2005, 12:22 PM
We'll give 'em another 24 and then give the new question option to someone else. :(

Lotesse
11-05-2005, 06:27 PM
It's Rconsole, right? Come on, Rconsole; you're up! Give us a question, please! :)

Spock
11-06-2005, 11:29 AM
ok, here goes a new question:

Who said, in part: "For you at least I am grieved".?

Acalewia
11-06-2005, 09:55 PM
Gandalf?

Spock
11-07-2005, 12:54 AM
nope

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-07-2005, 06:46 AM
Treebeard? lol

Rconsole
11-07-2005, 08:38 PM
ok, here goes a new question:

Who said, in part: "For you at least I am grieved".?

Theoden?

Gandalfthegray
11-07-2005, 09:28 PM
Aragorn

Spock
11-08-2005, 08:12 AM
Nope.

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-08-2005, 12:44 PM
Eomer?

Spock
11-08-2005, 12:49 PM
Nah. :(

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-08-2005, 12:51 PM
Faramir?

Spock
11-08-2005, 04:16 PM
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooo :(

Lotesse
11-08-2005, 04:58 PM
Wow, we're running out of candidates. And I really combed Two Towers last night, looking 4 this one. Was it... Legolas?

Spock
11-08-2005, 09:32 PM
el zippo :(

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-09-2005, 02:41 AM
Bregalad?? (Quickbeam)

Serenoli
11-09-2005, 11:03 PM
Pity I didn't see this question before. Could have saved all the speculation. It is so obviously Saruman, and he was saying it to Gandalf, or Theoden, I forget which. But it was Saruman, Curunir, old Sharkey, whatever you like to call him.

Spock
11-10-2005, 08:19 AM
Pity I didn't see this question before. Could have saved all the speculation. It is so obviously Saruman, and he was saying it to Gandalf, or Theoden, I forget which. But it was Saruman, Curunir, old Sharkey, whatever you like to call him.

At the time, he was just Saruman. You are correct.
It was a good run but now Serenoli gets to post the next queston.

Serenoli
11-10-2005, 11:52 PM
Who was the rider of Felaróf?

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-11-2005, 02:11 AM
Wasn't it Eorl the Young?

Serenoli
11-12-2005, 01:42 AM
Got it in one! your go, Witchy King.

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-12-2005, 08:10 AM
i thought that was right :D

ok, who said 'The time for fear is passed'?

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-12-2005, 10:41 AM
Sounds like something Gandalf would say.

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-12-2005, 10:48 PM
Nope...

Acalewia
11-13-2005, 09:28 PM
Aragorn

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-14-2005, 05:49 AM
I'm Afraid not...

Acalewia
11-14-2005, 06:03 PM
Saraman?

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-16-2005, 03:00 AM

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-16-2005, 01:38 PM
Theoden?

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-17-2005, 05:01 AM
yep you go!

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-21-2005, 05:09 PM
Soory for the delay guys. I'm still quite busy so someone else can take my go, but I'll post asap if nobody does.

Spock
11-21-2005, 05:12 PM
Well, you're here and posted in other book trivia....give us a quick question....there are only a few of us who are "in" this. :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-21-2005, 05:17 PM
What did Eomer and Aragorn say their swords were 'for'?

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-22-2005, 09:38 AM
Guthwine for the Mark

Anduril for the... Dunedain?

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-22-2005, 12:59 PM
Correct. Your go.

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-23-2005, 03:22 AM
REALLY?

i can't believe i got that!

who asks "Are you lying on an Ant-Hill?"

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-24-2005, 12:42 PM
Merry asks Pippin.

The Witch-King of Angmar
11-25-2005, 02:53 AM
Well you sure showed me, your turn again...

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-25-2005, 12:53 PM
Someone else cant take my go, as I'ff away for the weeke end, but if when I come back on Monday no body has posted a question, then I'll post.

Spock
11-25-2005, 01:14 PM
Well, I for one hope you enjoy your weekend. It's great to get away from "all this" every now and then.

What is known as "the Dreamflower"

Spock
11-27-2005, 01:05 PM
HEY, wake up ....two days and no one has even tried? :(

Grey_Wolf
11-27-2005, 02:01 PM
Is it Lothlorien?

Serenoli
11-27-2005, 02:28 PM
Dreamflower... never ever heard of it, but surely it couldn't be anything to do with Lothlorien thats not in Two Towers. So I'm guessing... the flowers that grow on the graves of the Rohan Kings?

Spock
11-27-2005, 06:38 PM
Is it Lothlorien?

YEP!

Treebeard says ..." Land of the Valley of Singing Gold, that was it, once upon a time. Now it is the Dreamflower".

Your go GW ;)

Grey_Wolf
11-28-2005, 03:35 AM
What differs the Orcs of Mordor from those of Isengard - group-names and signs?

Acalewia
11-28-2005, 05:09 PM
The Orcs of Mordor have the Eye and the Orcs of Isengard have the White Hand.

Grey_Wolf
11-28-2005, 05:25 PM
The Orcs of Mordor have the Eye and the Orcs of Isengard have the White Hand.

Correct. You next, Acalewia.

durinsbane2244
11-28-2005, 08:50 PM
BUT WAIT! you said group names and signs! in addition to the previous answer, the black uruks of mordor have the eye of mordor and the uruk-hai of isengard have the white hand of isengard....beaten at thine own question! :D

Grey_Wolf
11-29-2005, 05:44 AM
BUT WAIT! you said group names and signs! in addition to the previous answer, the black uruks of mordor have the eye of mordor and the uruk-hai of isengard have the white hand of isengard....beaten at thine own question! :D

Of course. :) You're quite right. She should have given the names of the groups as well. :)

Sorry again...go ahead, Durin...

Telcontar_Dunedain
11-29-2005, 06:50 AM
Should it not now be Durin to post the next question.

Acalewia
11-29-2005, 02:26 PM
i couldn't remember the names so its only fair that durinsbane post the next question

durinsbane2244
11-30-2005, 08:41 PM
er...yay...ok, what was, for treebeard, "more than his desire" [mark the quotes, tis a clue...]

Spock
11-30-2005, 11:52 PM
Ah! the gold and the red and the sighing of leaves in the Autumn in Taur-na-neldor!
It was more than my desire..quote Treebeard

Spock
12-02-2005, 01:45 PM
  :p

durinsbane2244
12-02-2005, 10:05 PM
SORRY SORRY SORRY! yes, you go...very busy, though not cuz of christmas...anyway, yes, the quotes were a hint, as it was an exact quote...YUGO!

Spock
12-03-2005, 12:22 PM
Who was unmoved that the sword of Elendil had come to Minas Tirith?

Serenoli
12-03-2005, 01:52 PM
Pippin?

Spock
12-04-2005, 11:56 AM
nope :(

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-04-2005, 05:16 PM
Denethor?

Spock
12-04-2005, 05:56 PM
Nyet!

Acalewia
12-04-2005, 07:07 PM
IIRC, the sword of Elendil did not come to Minas Tirith until RotK.

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-04-2005, 07:22 PM
Faramir? IIRC then he said it when Frodo was recounting the story of their journey from Moria to Rauros.

Spock
12-05-2005, 12:05 PM
Faramir? IIRC then he said it when Frodo was recounting the story of their journey from Moria to Rauros.

Yep, you go.

Acalewia, your recollection wasn't correct. :(

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-05-2005, 12:42 PM
What was the first wind that was sung about?

Acalewia
12-05-2005, 09:01 PM
Yep, you go.

Acalewia, your recollection wasn't correct. :(
i stand corrected.

North?

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-06-2005, 01:22 PM
You recall correctly now though. Your go.

Acalewia
12-06-2005, 02:09 PM
What does Sam do after Frodo's "death"?

durinsbane2244
12-06-2005, 08:40 PM
he takes the ring and sting and hides...

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-07-2005, 01:01 PM
Well technically he only takes the Ring as he already had Sting!

Spock
12-07-2005, 01:04 PM
Well, do you give it to DB, then? or deny him for the total?

Acalewia
12-07-2005, 02:20 PM
DB got it. Your go. that was kinda easy wasnt it?

durinsbane2244
12-07-2005, 08:40 PM
yes, it was, though still i sadly mess it up....sigh....anyway, name all of Gandalf's names...oddly, they are all to be found in this book...

-elfearz-
12-07-2005, 09:13 PM
Hmm...Gandalf (duh), Mithrandir (to the elves), Tharkun (to the dwarves), Olorin (in Valinor), Incanus (in the south)

I can't remember any more

durinsbane2244
12-07-2005, 09:52 PM
those are the obvious, now for the subtle...hint:4 more

-elfearz-
12-07-2005, 09:55 PM
Oh, I see...:p

Ummm...Stormcrow, Lathspell?
No idea - Gandalf the White? :p

durinsbane2244
12-07-2005, 10:04 PM
stormcrow and lathspell...two more, one in the golden hall, one in the wood...

-elfearz-
12-07-2005, 10:10 PM
Grayhame in the Golden Hall?
I don't think I know the one in the wood :)

durinsbane2244
12-07-2005, 10:26 PM
grayhame, yes...the wood is as they leave...more of a title...nudge...

-elfearz-

Don't have a book on me right now - I'll be able to post a question tomorrow, but if anyone would like to do one before then, feel free :D

The Witch-King of Angmar
12-09-2005, 11:03 PM
ok,

When Frodo was attacked by Shelob outside of the tunnel, why couldn't Sam save him?

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-10-2005, 08:51 AM
Gollum was attacking him.

Firekitten2006
12-10-2005, 04:20 PM
I haven't read the book in a while, but wasn't it because they had had a small moment of conflict with eachother?

durinsbane2244
12-10-2005, 11:13 PM
blast...twas gollum...alas, too late!

The Witch-King of Angmar
12-11-2005, 12:01 AM
Your go TD...

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-13-2005, 02:32 PM
After asking Gollum what question, did Sam realised he had disappeared at the top of the Stairs?

Does that make sense?

Lotesse
12-13-2005, 05:03 PM
Ummm...

"Gollum! Would you like to be the hero - now where's he got to again?"

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-13-2005, 05:09 PM
You got it. Your go Lotesse.

Lotesse
12-13-2005, 05:22 PM
WOW! I wasn't sure if that was correct. Thanx TD - give me a minute, though; I have to find us a new question...

Lotesse
12-13-2005, 07:17 PM
What is it that Smeagol has not heard of, nor wants to see?

Spock
12-13-2005, 10:17 PM
meno colloquio e più cioccolato

durinsbane2244
12-14-2005, 08:40 PM
Po-ta-toes!

Lotesse
12-14-2005, 08:42 PM
no and no.

durinsbane2244
12-14-2005, 09:05 PM
in that case fried fish and chips, served by S. Gamgee...

Lotesse
12-14-2005, 09:07 PM
:D Nope, not that either...

durinsbane2244
12-14-2005, 09:10 PM
hmmm...stewed rabbit?

Lotesse
12-14-2005, 11:35 PM
Nooooo...

CLUE: What he hasn't ever seen, and didn't WANT to see. Which implies that he hasn't seen it yet, at the point where I took from the book reference to create this question.

Serenoli
12-14-2005, 11:42 PM
Oliphaunts?

Lotesse
12-14-2005, 11:43 PM
INDEED!! You got it! It's all yours, Serenoli... :)

Serenoli
12-15-2005, 11:24 PM
Okey-dokey!

Here's my question:

What compliment did Saruman pay the hobbits?

Lotesse
12-17-2005, 05:12 PM
Did he call them "clever?" You know, one of those sarcastic "clever's"... no, that was Gollum. Hmm. Must keep looking...

durinsbane2244
12-17-2005, 11:00 PM
er, does he call them, "admirable hobbits"? i seem to recall the phrase, "my most admirable hobbits" from somewhere...

Serenoli
12-18-2005, 07:30 AM
Sorry, thats not it! For once I seem to have given something remotely difficult! Most of my questions get very quick answers! :)

Spock
12-20-2005, 04:26 PM
Boy, it's a good question and I can't remember nor find the answer. Two days and zipp. Oh well, maybe better heads will answer.

Serenoli
12-21-2005, 02:04 AM
Ok, here's a hint to help you all.

What compliment did Saruman pay the hobbits, according to Gandalf?

Lotesse
12-21-2005, 08:44 PM
That those little pants made them look taller & brought out the colour in their eyes?

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-22-2005, 07:07 AM
Was it that he thought they were important enough to have left Isengard?

Serenoli
12-22-2005, 11:09 AM
Lotesse not at all close, but what a funny idea! :D

TD, try again... you're close enough, you got the basic idea... but he left Isengard in RotK, the answer is in TT.

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-22-2005, 08:06 PM
I mean when he went to Fangorn.

Lotesse
12-22-2005, 08:45 PM
Was it a sincere compliment, or a classic Saruman sarcastic-ism?

Serenoli
12-23-2005, 09:51 AM
The basic idea that TD got right was that Saruman never meant to pay the compliment. Also think on the hint I gave.

clep_web
12-23-2005, 11:51 PM
Er...was it something to do with the 'a sneer from him is a compliment' thing? Or is the answer Saruman was concerned about the hobbits and that is supposed to be a compliment?

Serenoli
12-24-2005, 03:43 AM
We have a winner!

Its the part where Merry complains to Gandalf of being labelled 'rag-tag', and Gandalf says something like 'a sneer from him is a compliment, if you like', so its your turn, clep_web :)

durinsbane2244
12-26-2005, 04:16 PM
good morning clep web! the earth says hello! hello! helllllooo!

clep_web

Sorry for posting so late, I couldn't think of a deviously hard one so here goes:

What does riding elf-fashion mean?

Lotesse
12-26-2005, 10:35 PM
Does it mean riding without a saddle or tack?

clep_web
12-26-2005, 10:42 PM

Yup, you got it.

Lotesse
12-29-2005, 11:14 PM

Treebeard says Saruman's heart is as rotten as what?

Telcontar_Dunedain
12-30-2005, 06:16 AM
A Huorn's?

Lotesse
12-30-2005, 01:22 PM
Almost...

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-01-2006, 06:49 AM
Any clues? It's been two days and no one has guessed any closer.

Lotesse
01-01-2006, 04:25 PM
I'll give it to you, TD; what I wanted was a "black Huorn's" but you pretty much nailed it without the "black," so - take it away! :D :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-03-2006, 08:14 AM
What did Treebeard tell Merry and Pippin to organise for 25?

Serenoli
01-04-2006, 03:50 AM
Manfood? (I remember he called it something funny like that)

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-04-2006, 02:40 PM
Correct. Your go Serenoli.

Serenoli
01-06-2006, 01:14 PM
You know what, I gave my book to someone and haven't got it back yet, and I haven't read it for months, my head is blank, and though I've managed to make up questions from memory a lot of times since (most of them were too easy, though!), today I can't seem to remember anything... :(

SO, the first person who comes and reads this can post a question! :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-06-2006, 01:26 PM
Looks like its me again then.

How did Gimli get to Helms Deep?

King of The Istari
01-06-2006, 01:54 PM

Acalewia
01-06-2006, 02:19 PM
On the horse lent to Legolas

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-06-2006, 03:28 PM
Correct KotI.

King of The Istari
01-07-2006, 01:59 PM
ok then...

how many simbelmynë covered graves are there outside edoras when the grey company first arrive?

Lotesse
01-07-2006, 02:02 PM
What? What's "syblmuna?" Spelling, please. :)

littleadanel
01-07-2006, 03:00 PM
Lemme guess... "simbelmynë" it should've been?

Five graves on one side, four on the other?
(or were there more kings before Théoden's time? only guessing...)

King of The Istari
01-07-2006, 04:32 PM
sorry, I didn't know how to spell it and I just spelt it how I pronounce it,

King of The Istari
01-07-2006, 04:34 PM

spock to go

Spock
01-09-2006, 11:46 AM
 hmmm, let's see......where could you find twenty-seven broad stairs?
I want the exact location, precisely

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-09-2006, 02:07 PM
Is it the stairs that lead to Orthanc?

Spock
01-09-2006, 02:10 PM
Is it the stairs that lead to Orthanc?

Please read my requirements for this question more closely. :p

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-09-2006, 02:12 PM
Is there a trick in there, because I did give an exact location.

King of The Istari
01-09-2006, 02:50 PM
leading up to the golden hall in edoras?

Spock
01-09-2006, 08:49 PM
Is there a trick in there, because I did give an exact location.

A partial answer was given but not the precise answer.

You were on the right path you just needed to be more precise and answer the question posed  :o

Spock
01-09-2006, 08:51 PM
leading up to the golden hall in edoras?

Not at all. :p

durinsbane2244
01-09-2006, 09:30 PM
er, located right next to the spot that's right next to them? eh? that makes sense...

clep_web
01-10-2006, 05:13 AM
OK, I really have no idea, but I'm giving this a shot.

Leading up to the empty throne of Gondor - oh wait, this is TTT. Before the tower of Orthanc?

Spock
01-10-2006, 10:09 AM
TD almost has it, it's within his grasp but he hasn't been precise enough :(

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-10-2006, 11:56 AM
Okay. The stairs that lead to the Tower Orthanc, where Gandalf stood when talking to Saruman.

Spock
01-10-2006, 02:02 PM
TD you are trying so hard, I'm going to relent and give it to you.

To be precise in the answer it should have been:

"On the eastern side, in the angle of two piers, a great door....and over it a window....up to the threshold mounted a flight of twenty-seven broad stairs." That answers where precisely they are.

Your go. ;)

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-10-2006, 05:01 PM
What were the thee answers give when Treebeard asked Merry and Pippin what they called it?

durinsbane2244
01-11-2006, 08:43 PM
ledge, shelf, and hill? [positive of hill]

Lotesse
01-12-2006, 01:16 AM
What were the thee answers give when Treebeard asked Merry and Pippin what they called it?

Ciao, TD! I want to ask you - can you rephrase the question, perhaps make it a bit more precise, 'cause I'd really love 2 give this one a try but you've got me  with the way you've posed the question. I assume you mean to say, "What were the THREE answers GIVEN when Treebeard asked Merry and Pippin what they called...??? That last part has me confused; what they called what? Clarify, s'il vous plait, my dear Khamul! :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-12-2006, 12:24 PM
Sorry Lotesse.
I'm not quite sure how to explain it other than that.
If it is that unclear I'll post another question.

Spock
01-12-2006, 02:15 PM
What were the thee answers give when Treebeard asked Merry and Pippin what they called it?

referring to what Treebeard was called (as that is the way the question reads) The Ent, Fangorn and Treebeard are the three answers ;)

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-12-2006, 04:32 PM
Okay, as it seems that the way I put the question is confusing and I can't think of a better way of putting it with out giving you the answer I'll post a new question. The asnwers I was looking for were hill, shelf and step.

Easy question.
Who killed Shelob?

Spock
01-12-2006, 04:45 PM
She commited suicide by trying to eat Hobbits raw. :D

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-12-2006, 04:47 PM
Not quite.

durinsbane2244
01-12-2006, 08:40 PM
trick question, shelob wasn't killed. sam only wounded her with sting, when he goes to get frodo and puts on the ring, he can hear her back in the bowels of the tunnel.

Spock
01-13-2006, 01:02 PM
..oh right. :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-13-2006, 02:40 PM
Well done DB. Your go.

durinsbane2244
01-15-2006, 06:32 PM
sorry for the delay, name one ancestor of shelob.

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-15-2006, 06:59 PM
Ungoliant.

durinsbane2244
01-16-2006, 08:36 PM

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-17-2006, 12:42 PM
What was it that struck Merry and Pippin most about the Entmoot?

Spock
01-17-2006, 12:46 PM
First the variety of trees there. Secondly they saw that they were all of the same kindred, and all had the same eyes.

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-17-2006, 12:55 PM
Correct Spock. Your go.
