Spock

Which of the Orcs captives was the smaller?

durinsbane2244
01-17-2006, 09:24 PM

Spock
01-18-2006, 09:19 AM

01-19-2006, 09:41 PM

Lotesse
01-19-2006, 10:15 PM
He - hmm. He flipped him the bird? No, no that can't be it. Must think on this furthur...

Landroval
01-20-2006, 12:49 AM
He warned him that death should come to anyone (but him, Elendil's heir) who would draw the blade.

Serenoli
01-20-2006, 08:45 AM
I always wondered... was that just a stylistic way of saying, 'I'll kill you if you touch it!'? Or was there a curse on it? :p

Landroval
01-20-2006, 03:05 PM
I always wondered... was that just a stylistic way of saying, 'I'll kill you if you touch it!'? Or was there a curse on it? :p
I doubt it; after all, would the reforging elves be ignorant of the curse, or safe from it? ;)

durinsbane2244
01-20-2006, 06:58 PM
yes, landroval, your go.

i think it might have to do with the sheath galadriel gave him, meaning that the reforging elves are good to go!

Serenoli
01-21-2006, 01:09 AM
But I thought the sheath just kept it stainless?

Landroval
01-21-2006, 01:43 AM
What choices does Theoden give to Grima?

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-21-2006, 05:13 AM

Landroval
01-21-2006, 05:16 AM
You're next :).

Telcontar_Dunedain

Spock
01-25-2006, 01:12 PM
After telling the Uruk Hai to go west and a little north, who did Ugluk tell them to follow?

durinsbane2244
01-25-2006, 08:34 PM
hmmm...i good guess would be either "ol' mr. bilbo" or "my old gaffer"...but it seems like neither of them would...

Telcontar_Dunedain
01-26-2006, 12:21 PM

Telcontar_Dunedain
02-01-2006, 12:19 PM
During Helms Deep, what did Theoden say could perhaps bring him joy again?

Lotesse
02-01-2006, 11:11 PM
A foot massage and a nice cognac? No just playin'.

If he could lead his men out there in battle on the field, and "set a spear in rest".

Telcontar_Dunedain
02-02-2006, 12:39 PM
Correct. Your go Lotesse.

Lotesse
02-06-2006, 01:30 PM
At dusk, the night of the third day of Aragorn, Gimli & Legolas' pursuit of the orcs to find Merry & Pippin, what kind of moon (what phase) was it that evening?

Spock
02-06-2006, 01:42 PM
Lotesse check the TT trivia your up now for several days

Spock
02-06-2006, 01:46 PM
At dusk, the night of the third day of Aragorn, Gimli & Legolas' pursuit of the orcs to find Merry & Pippin, what kind of moon (what phase) was it that evening?

...a young moon but it shed little light.......

Lotesse
02-06-2006, 01:49 PM
Yes, and at the end of that passage it states the shape of that young moon - its phase. What shape/phase was it in?

Spock
02-06-2006, 02:30 PM
Yes, and at the end of that passage it states the shape of that young moon - its phase. What shape/phase was it in?

The passage which contains "...a young moon but it shed little light......" doesn't state anything further. Reading beyond that, paragraphs beyond..we get

....(Aragorn) ..I distrust even the pale Moon....

and again (Aragorn) ...Halt, we must once more; for see! even the Moon is falling into gathering cloud........

........after that, it's dawn.

:(........together they watched the dwar grow slowly in the sky now bare and cloudless until at last the sunrise came. It was pale and clear.

Lotesse
02-06-2006, 03:01 PM
You didn't catch it? It's there, I assure you! O.K., I'll tell you - sickle moon. It was a sickle moon! :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
02-06-2006, 06:11 PM
So does Spock go or do you want to post another question Lotesse since we didn't actually get the answer.

Spock
02-06-2006, 08:11 PM
You didn't catch it? It's there, I assure you! O.K., I'll tell you - sickle moon. It was a sickle moon! :)

I've looked and looked, and it doesn't say that in my book.

If you've posed the question from inferences, that is not permitted.

If I've missed it, as others have, then please quote exactly where it does say that.

Meanwhile we await input so we can move on.

Lotesse
02-06-2006, 11:38 PM
Spock, Spock, Spock. How long have you known me around here, and you KNOW I never, never like or tolerate trivia questions based on inference. I'm almost as strict as YOU are about it! No, strike that - I am JUST as strict as you are about it. :)

So anyway, it is in The Riders of Rohan, the passage where it starts "At dusk they halted again. Now twice twelve leagues they had passed over the plains..."

and at the end of the short passage -

'Truly! said Legolas. 'That I have known since first we came downfrom the Emyn Muil. For the will is not behind us but before us.' He pointed away over the land of Rohan into the darkling West under the sickle moon.

Spock

That's saying alot. :D

Found it and no wonder no one could find it....most hidden of answers. Lotesse has joined the elite in questioners!!!!

Please, Lotesse, post another one for us all who are humbled by your excellence. :o

Lotesse
02-07-2006, 05:47 PM

Lotesse
02-08-2006, 03:55 PM

who said, in part: "..there's Orcs about, and worse than Orcs". ;)

Telcontar_Dunedain
02-22-2006, 03:50 PM
Sam.

Spock, when do you quotes as parts of your questions then could you give the actual quote instead of it 'in part', because sometimes there is no way of recognising it when it's only in part. :)

Spock
02-22-2006, 04:46 PM
Sam.

Yes.

Spock, when do you quotes as parts of your questions then could you give the actual quote instead of it 'in part', because sometimes there is no way of recognising it when it's only in part. :)
the above could have been sent via PM

Trivia (all threads) has been going on for so long and has but a few steadfast players, that I use "in part" to make questions a tiny, ittsy-bittsy, teeny weenie bit, harder. I always give enough of the quote that a fanatic trivia player will get the 'jist' of where in lays the actual and full quote. 'all the ususal suspects' get the answers 99% of the time.

Telcontar_Dunedain
02-22-2006, 04:54 PM
Okay.

What were the exact words that Treebeard inserted into the 'old list'?

Spock
02-23-2006, 03:45 PM

What was (should read - were -) the exact words that Treebeard inserted into the 'old list'?
:) :p

Spock
02-25-2006, 12:43 PM
The Hobbit children, the laughing-folk, the little people.

Telcontar_Dunedain
02-27-2006, 12:39 PM
Yes, but there is another part aswell.

Spock
02-27-2006, 01:08 PM
The Hobbit children, the laughing-folk, the little people.

I didn't know you wanted the entire quote, thought only the part about Hobbits.

ENTS THE EARTHBORN, OLD AS MOUNTAINS, THE WIDE-WALKERS, WATER DRINKING; AND HUNGRY AS HUNTERS, THE hOBBIT CHILDGREN, THE LAUGHING-FOLD, THE LITTLE PEOPLE.

HOWS THAT

NOT SHOUTING............... ;)

Telcontar_Dunedain
02-27-2006, 01:48 PM
I did, but you missed out the hungry as hunters part. Your go Spock.

Telcontar_Dunedain
02-27-2006, 03:49 PM
Dishonour his bones?

Spock
02-27-2006, 03:57 PM
You know what, TD; I'll give it to you.

The why is because "to build a cairn required boulders" and the "labour would be hard and long and no stones nearer than the water-side.

Get the idea behind my sneeeeeeeeeeky question :)

U-GO.

Telcontar_Dunedain
02-27-2006, 04:01 PM

Telcontar_Dunedain
03-05-2006, 01:24 PM
Okay, I will post one later when I can get to the books.

Farimir Captain of Gondor
03-07-2006, 08:36 AM

Gordis
03-12-2006, 03:28 PM
His staff and the keys? (without checking :) )

Udukhaturz
03-12-2006, 03:42 PM
Correct. You have the next question.

Gordis
03-12-2006, 03:46 PM
Thanks, Udu.

OVER FIVE DAYS AND NO CORRECT ANSWER

SOMEONE ELSE OR THE ORIGINATOR PLEASE POST A NEW QUESTION :o

Gandalfthegray
03-22-2006, 05:33 AM
What are the names of the 3 ents who were there before anyone else (tom bombadil excluded)?

Serenoli
03-22-2006, 08:23 AM
Fangorn, Finglas, Fladrif? (or Treebeard, Leaflock and Skinbark)?

P.S. Tom Bombadil surely not an ent? :p :D

The Easterlings maybe? When Frodo see 'em coming to the Black Gate?

Serenoli
03-25-2006, 12:52 AM

Am I to give a question, then? Or shall I wait till a second termination of TD's question?

Farimir Captain of Gondor
03-25-2006, 12:56 AM
Since your the head of the sugar, spice, and everything nice; I'd say go for it. ;) But what do I know, I'm only the drummer in the muppet band. :p

Lotesse
03-25-2006, 01:01 AM
The next question should go to Serenoli, she answered Gandalf the grey's question right. TD's question is still up in the air. It's no longer a question in the running, so to speak, since it went past the three-days-and-no-one-got-it mark, and people still don't know the answer to it. So, I'd also say, go for it, Serenoli. The turn is definitely yours. :)

Serenoli
03-25-2006, 02:03 AM
Bowing to the great public demand, :) here comes my question, and a simple one it is:

What do hobbits call the Southrons?

Bowing to the great public demand, :) here comes my question, and a simple one it is:

Swertings. I only know this because I'm reading The Two Towers now and just came across that, otherwise; I never would have guessed it. :) Great question Serenoli. :D

Serenoli
03-26-2006, 08:19 PM
Thanks! Now, Mr. Simpson, :) I believe its your turn...

Farimir Captain of Gondor
03-26-2006, 09:40 PM
Why thank ya. :D

What do hobbits do before breakfast?

Spock
03-28-2006, 11:42 AM
Wash up?

Farimir Captain of Gondor
03-28-2006, 11:35 PM
Wash up?

Close. ;) Looking for something in particular

Serenoli
03-29-2006, 12:51 AM
Close, is it? How about, they 'wash the head' before breakfast?

Farimir Captain of Gondor
03-29-2006, 01:12 AM
Yep, that's it. :D

Your turn Serenoli. ;)

Serenoli
04-01-2006, 11:59 AM
I'm sorry, Spock, and any other hopeful trivia players... but my internet connection has been very unstable last three days...

Q: Name the last peak of the Misty Mountains.

Gordis
04-01-2006, 01:41 PM
Hmm...North or South?

Gundabad?

Serenoli
04-02-2006, 06:47 AM
South... actually, and sorry, not Gundabad. (wierdly enough, Gundabad in bangla means 'Land of Thugs'! :D)

Gordis
04-02-2006, 07:31 AM
(wierdly enough, Gundabad in bangla means 'Land of Thugs'! :D)
:) :D

Then Methedras.

Gordis
04-02-2006, 02:56 PM
Serenoli, ask another question yourself, please. I am quitting this site.

Gordis
04-03-2006, 07:02 AM
Well I am not. :)

So, Methedras is it?

Serenoli
04-04-2006, 01:31 PM
I'm glad you're not! :) BTW, why the sudden dislike (and then like) for entmoot?

And, Methedras it is... :)

Gordis
04-04-2006, 01:49 PM

So you haven't seen the board's Fool day's prank late on the 2 of April? The timing was a bit off, so I got fooled. :(

The board was black and starry, the text dark brown on black, and the awful Star Trek Logo (well, I admit, that technically it was well done, thanks to Earniel :) ) but it grated on my nerves like hell.

So I almost quit.
If you were away that night, you were really lucky, Serenoli. :)

Now my question:

What was the name for the Strawheads/Rohirrim in the Dunland language?

Serenoli
04-04-2006, 02:12 PM
Forgoil?

No, I seem to have missed it... I did hear scraps from others about it, but I never realised the extent of the horror! Still, I'd have liked to see it... maybe, Earniel can put it up for me again?? :p

Gordis
04-04-2006, 05:02 PM

Yes, Forgoil! Great, Serenoli :)
Ask the next one.

There is a link somwhere here to the Star Trek board layout, as it was that night - ask someone. I don't care to look a it again! :D

Serenoli
04-06-2006, 11:31 AM
Hmmm.... got to find it, then...

Anyway, question. What type of sword do orcs usually use? A plus point if you can tell me how the Uruk-hai differ in this respect. :)

Gwaimir Windgem
04-06-2006, 02:58 PM
Wasn't it short stabbing swords, with the Uruks using scimitars?

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-06-2006, 05:27 PM
I thought it was the Orcs who used the scimitar and the Uriks used a long flat squarish one.

Serenoli, here you go. The scariest day in Entmoot history! (http://tmilder.homestead.com/files/Wherenomanhasgonebefore.htm)

Serenoli
04-07-2006, 12:29 AM
Farimir, you got it!

And, woooo, that was creepy! But sorta nice, I like the decorations. Black backgrounds are always a relief. I din't see any green fonts though, nothing that hurt my eyes... I thought maybe I'd get a peek at Hobbit's 464 PMs, but they caught me!! :p :D

Farimir Captain of Gondor

FIVE DAYS AND NO REPLY- please post a new question or we can *temporarily close the trivia to give people time to think**

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-11-2006, 03:22 PM
Verry well then.

What is beyond any Gamgee to guess?

This refers to when Frodo, Sam, and Gollum are at the Black Gate and Smeagol has just told them about 'a secret way' and Sam is trying to guess what Frodo will do next. A good question IMO.

New question:

What did Faramir give Frodo and Sam to take with them? Food wise, it's two(2) things.

Udukhaturz
04-11-2006, 03:33 PM
Dried fruits, salted meat and bread

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-11-2006, 03:37 PM
Yep, forgot about the bread. Your go Udukhaturz.

Udukhaturz
04-11-2006, 04:19 PM
On the first night, what was the name of the place Fangorn took Merry and Pippin?

Gordis
04-12-2006, 04:05 PM
Difficult queastion, Udu.

"Part of the name of this place might be Wellinghall, if it were turned into your language." :)

Udukhaturz
04-12-2006, 04:35 PM
Gordis, correct. You won the right to ask the next question. *smiles*

Gordis
04-12-2006, 05:21 PM
Gordis, correct. You won the right to ask the next question. *smiles*
Thanks, Udu! :)

According to Gandalf (in Rohan), what would Sauron himself have done in their place?

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-15-2006, 11:27 AM
Used the Ring against him, as Boromir had wished to do.

Gordis
04-15-2006, 03:59 PM
Used the Ring against him, as Boromir had wished to do.

More precisely: where would he go?

durinsbane2244
04-15-2006, 07:33 PM

Gordis
04-16-2006, 02:22 AM
Yes, he would go to Minas Tirith.
Next is yous, DB! :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-16-2006, 06:58 AM
Shall I post a question as DB asked?

Gordis
04-16-2006, 10:05 AM
You may! :)

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-16-2006, 01:10 PM
According to Faramir, what would be required if Aragorn ever came to Minas Tirith.

durinsbane2244
04-16-2006, 07:35 PM
doesn't he need to show himself to denethor and vouch for faramir or something?

Telcontar_Dunedain

Nope.

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-17-2006, 08:03 AM

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-20-2006, 11:44 AM

Farimir Captain of Gondor

Who was Hasufel's original owner?

Gordis
04-22-2006, 05:37 PM
He he... I doubt anyone could remember that :)

I admit I had to check.

Hasufel's former master, slain by orcs, was one Gárulf.

Udukhaturz
04-22-2006, 05:59 PM
Gordis, you get to ask the next question. (which I will probably check to find the answer.) *grins*

Gordis
04-22-2006, 06:47 PM
No, here is an easy one:
What must Sam do to unable the Gaffer to recognise him?

Farimir Captain of Gondor
04-22-2006, 08:41 PM
The truffle shuffle. :p

Just kidding. To tell the truth, I have no idea. Guess it isn't an easy one for me huh. :D

Telcontar_Dunedain
04-23-2006, 08:31 AM
