Valandil
05-13-2005, 09:08 AM
"When the Valar gave to us the land of gift they did not make us their vice-regents; we were given the /_i_g_o_/ of Numenor, not of the World.
They are the Lords. /_e_e/_e/_e_e/_o/_u_/a_a_/ hither and /_a_;
/f_r/_a_/w_s/_n_e_,/a_d/_o_g_t_/ thrust forth from Arda.
So I deemed, and so was taught."
Artanis
05-13-2005, 10:32 AM
All correct except 'hither'.
Count Comfect
05-13-2005, 12:32 PM
kingdom, were we...
Artanis
05-13-2005, 01:07 PM
'kingdom' and 'we' is correct.
"When the Valar gave to us the land of gift they did not make us their vice-regents; we were given the Kingdom of Numenor, not of the World.
They are the Lords. /_e_e/we/_e_e/_o/_u_/a_a_/h_t_e_/ and /_a_;
/f_r/_a_/w_s/_n_e_,/a_d/_o_g_t_/ thrust forth from Arda.
So I deemed, and so was taught."
Count Comfect
05-13-2005, 02:12 PM
Here we were to?
Artanis
05-13-2005, 02:28 PM
Yep. :)
Count Comfect
05-13-2005, 02:31 PM
run away?
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-13-2005, 02:59 PM
For, was, Morgoth
Count Comfect
05-13-2005, 03:18 PM
for day was ended, and Morgoth...
Artanis
05-13-2005, 04:45 PM
Wrong words are 'run' and 'day'.
"When the Valar gave to us the land of gift they did not make us their vice-regents; we were given the Kingdom of Numenor, not of the World.
They are the Lords. Here we were to /_u_/ away /h_t_e_/ and /_a_;
for /_a_/ was /_n_e_,/ and Morgoth thrust forth from Arda.
So I deemed, and so was taught."
Count Comfect
05-13-2005, 06:17 PM
so not "ended" either?
put away hatred and war, for war ...?
Artanis
05-14-2005, 01:37 AM
Oh yes, 'ended' is right! Sorry CC.
Quote is correct now. Anyone make a guess about the speaker?
Count Comfect
05-14-2005, 01:47 AM
Elendil?
Telcontar_Dunedain
05-14-2005, 03:08 AM
Amandil?
Artanis
05-14-2005, 06:14 AM
Not Elendil and not Amandil.
Valandil
05-14-2005, 07:29 AM
Tar-Atanamir? (or is it 'Atanimir'?)
Artanis
05-14-2005, 08:16 AM
I had to look up Atanamir Val because I'm not as learned as you in the kings of Numenor. But no. it's not him. :)
Valandil
05-14-2005, 05:26 PM
Yes - I wanted to change my answer a little later (but was away and couldn't get back on), because I think I put it into context.
Is it Tar-Meneldur - father of Aldarion, talking to his son?
Artanis
05-15-2005, 03:55 AM
Yep, it's Tar-Meneldur. He's not talking to his son though, he's talking to himself, wondering whether he should prepare for war or not.

"You will be heard, my lord, after such _a_t_ .
A guest room is made ready for you, when you will.
My women will wait on you. If you are cold, call for fire."
No idea as to the speaker...
Valandil
05-15-2005, 08:34 PM
'heard' is wrong - which leaves 2 words + speaker
Beren3000
05-16-2005, 12:28 AM
Could it be "merry" instead of "heard"?
Count Comfect
05-16-2005, 01:02 AM
party?
Valandil
05-16-2005, 07:04 AM
neither 'merry' nor 'party'
Beren3000
05-16-2005, 11:22 AM
"weary" and "haste"?
Valandil
05-17-2005, 06:04 AM
Both words are correct - we just need our speaker
Radagast The Brown
05-17-2005, 01:54 PM
Aldarion?
Valandil
05-17-2005, 08:34 PM
No - Aldarion didn't say it.
Radagast The Brown
05-18-2005, 06:59 AM
I meant.. Erendis to Aldarion?
Valandil
05-18-2005, 07:24 AM

"It was a city, the chief city of Gondor, of which this was only a fortress. For that is the ruin of Osgiliath on either side of Anduin, which our enemies took and burned long ago. Yet we won it back in the days of the youth of Denethor: not to dwell in, but to hold as an (outpost?), and to rebuild the bridge for the passage of our arms. And then came the fell riders out of Minas Morgul."

Sorry about this, Val; but I have a good excuse this time: it was my graduation yesterday, so I couldn't post at all. :o I was going to post today.
Anyway:

Yet if there be one on whom the shadow of our curse has not yet fallen, I should find at least a few to follow me, and should not go hence as a beggar that is thrust from the gates."

Hee-hee - no apology needed Beren, I was just 'giving you a hard time' :p - I've been slow a few times myself. But we used to play this game where if the solver didn't post after several hours, someone else would just post one to get it going.

Oh geez! It's the guy who's guarding the road when Gandalf comes into Gondor with Pippin... don't remember if it's at the outworks or further from the city. What IS his name?? :p

I thought it was Theoden, then started thinking it was Eomer, now I REALLY don't know...
Radagast The Brown

It's neither Eomer nor Theoden... and Val is right. Of course, he "forgot" his name... ;)

No - I honestly don't remember the names of a lot of the minor characters who just get a couple lines. If I knew it, I'd (probably) have said it! :p
