Good points JD, it could even be inset into the General Messages forum like the Silmarillion Project one is.

I have two annoying problems with NationState. The important one is that I've set my decisions to two issues a day and I'm still only getting one.
The not a big deal is I can't change my custom flag.

Yeah I have/had the same problem. I switched to 2 issues per day yesterday and it still hasn't updated. It also took me forever to find a file that worked. May I suggest using a .gif image as they are typically smaller. I know it says to use .jpeg images, but it accepted my .gif file :D

cool! i didn't know you could do that until i read dunedain's post; but what do they mean by "not flag-like" or whatever? does that really matter, or are they just saying that to deter people from using weird flags?

Yes - everyone is from Entmoot or at least should be. We have the password there to keep non-mooters out.

Not all the countries are obvious as to who the mooters are and I haven't updated the list yet with the new countries.

Great news!!!! With the help of SGh we have managed to convince Ben to give us our own forum. As you can see it's a sub-forum off the RPG forum.

Please don't go crazy creating threads just yet. I'm the mod for this forum and all entmoot rules will apply. I know we have some discussion elements from this thread which should be made into threads though.

As for a map, since it is Entmoot, and therefore Middle Earth, which binds us together, I think it would be best (and most fun) to use the Middle Earth map. Or at least try that and see if we can do it without too much dissent. (right now the only contention is between myself and Dunedain over Annuminas - and, off the record, that's all only in good fun! :D ) We could limit square mileages to something reasonable - maybe 40,000 square miles max. (that's about 102,500 sq. km for metric users - we could even say 100,000 sq km max for all...) We COULD even add a mirror-image of New Jersey appendage to the western edge of the ME map someplace...:)

Good idea! my country can be in Aman..since that's where Arien is from ...heheh;)

This is super. Way to go JD! :) And now you're a moderator, nice work!

Maybe we can use this thread to discuss which threads we should open there, so we don't clutted up our new subforum. If this thread is moved to that forum (which would make sense), then this could be a general discussion thread for our fine continent.

Edit: Oh, I see it has already been moved. So this should be our "General" thread.

I have joined in and created a country. I still have to move into the Great Continent Of entmoot"

we are Democratic Republicans Of the Noble Blue Llama.

civil rights : good
economy: strong
political freedom: Excellent

The Democratic Republic of The Noble Blue Llama is a tiny, pleasant nation, renowned for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The medium-sized government devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Commerce receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 19%. An almost nonexistent private sector is dominated by the Retail industry.

Crime is moderate, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. The Noble Blue Llama's national animal is the llama and its currency is the notes.

Falagstania has arrived.

The Empire of Falagstania is a tiny, pleasant nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The small government devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Defence receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 7%. A healthy private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Basket Weaving and Woodchip Exports.

Crime is a serious problem. Falagstania's national animal is the wolf and its currency is the Falcoin.

You know... on all the issues we address, it seems like what actually gets carried out is one step beyond the course of action we approved. Keep this in mind when making your decisions everyone. Remember the words of Ross Perot in '92: "The Devil is in the Details!" The implementation of an apparently good idea may not be so great. I think we all have over-zealous executive staff members! ;)

I had the issue, "Term Limits" for senators yesterday. I didn't start a thread on it - and I thought it sounded familiar from somebody else... but now I don't see a thread and don't have the issue to post (oh - maybe I can check my 'dossier'... I've never really done that!).

Anyway, I took the term limits... one change I've seen is that though my government is still described as 'enormous' (and I only have a 22% income tax rate) - the word 'corrupt' has been dropped from the description.

I've got very good marks for economy and political freedoms - but 'below average' for civil rights (which I'd think would be linked to political freedoms). Still looking to bring that one up.

Got 'cannibalism' today - and chose to reject rather than dismiss. What effects have some of you had from rejecting it?

(EDIT: oh yeah... 'dossier' is something else... is there anyplace where you can see a record of your actions? Or view all the issues you've faced?)

It's because people haven't been going into nation states.

I still think we should make it more interesting. byt trying to form a government and actually do some role playing. All we are doing is just discussing the issues. I am finding it somewhat boring at the moment and only check my country once in a while.

yes - that was my initial idea when I asked SGH to help convince Ben to give us our own forum. I thought it could be like the United States and the EU. But then no one was interested in it. BoP left in a huff without even saying anythign - but came back and made comments that that was one of the reasons she left. So I just dropped the idea. But to put it truthfully - what is going right now with the Great Continent is frigging boring and it doesn't keep people's interests.

For my part, it's hard to justify the additional time of a more active role in 'Nation-States'. Maybe it's not so with others, but that's why I prefer to just 'dabble' and respond to daily issues.

I'm behind everyone as well. Discussing the issues etc, would make it a bit more interesting. At the moment I just go on to check my issues, lodge the occasional message and thats all. Unless I'm really bored, thats when I'll take a trip to the Nation States own forum, to discuss issues. But it's not that good a forum. I'd much rather do that on Entmoot.:)

Valandil

I'm not sure what's happening, but I think I'm only getting an issue every other day, instead of every day, as I kept the settings. *sigh* I may stop playing myself soon and let my country eventually drop out of existence (I expect our continent to be much smaller in 28 days anyway). So many of the issues are weird - and the proposed directions are goofy - and I end up dismissing more and more of them. Fun quotient is definitely dropping.

I wonder if there's any way to request improvements to the game... ie, select catagories for issues, be able to re-visit issues which have come up before and make alterations, etc...

UN Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy
Civil Rights: Very Good Economy: Reasonable Political
Freedoms: Below Average

The Holy Republic of Half-Dwarf is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its burgeoning Dwarf population. Its compassionate population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Social Welfare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 24%, but much higher for the wealthy. A small private sector is led by the Retail industry, followed by Beef-Based Agriculture and Trout Farming.

Crime is moderate, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Half-Dwarf's national animal is the Dwarf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Half.

You can request things and also submit your own issues. They were working on a more robust version of the game - but the one version, which was going to allow war, was going to probably cost money.

Here is something funny (IMO) that occurred.

I haven't looked at my nation in over a week and had some issues in the queue.

If you look below, you can see that I have two of the same issue waiting in the queue.

The following issues are before the Parliament of Lefka Ori:

Oh, the Angst! [legislation pending]
When KriKris attack! [legislation pending]
More Police Needed [unaddressed]
When KriKris attack! [legislation pending]
Raise Duel Standards, Say Fencers [unaddressed]
Or: dismiss all issues.

Has this occurred to anyone else?
