This is where we mourn our fav movie characters who die in the movies.

top 4 for me...

Adam Goldberg's death in saving private ryan really takes the cake.

Ghandi's death in Ghandi

Ralph Fiennes death in Schindler's List (I know he's a bad guy, but still....)

mel's death scene in Braveheart

waaaaaaaaa!!!!!! I cant take it anymore!! *starts crying*

Braveheart??!?! Well, I don't quite like that movie a whole lot..

Umm... (not in any order)

Simon Birch - Simon Birch

Maximus Meridius Decimus - Gladiatior

Gabriel Martin, and Thomas Martin - Patriot

Boromir - LotR: FotR

Beth March - Little Women

Neo - Matrix (Love that scene when he runs into the room and then Smith just kinda grins, and you see the shell fall on the floor.)

I've got a few more, I'm sure- just can't think of 'em at the moment.

P.S. Totally out of context: I was just sitting here thinking and I was staring at this book, and then I realized it said 'Middle Earth'. And then I woke from my reverie and realized it said 'Midlife Health'. LOL!

Gabriele Tinti---Flight of the Phoenix (French guy trying to get home to see his (dying?) wife in France

Obi-won-Kinobe---Star Wars (although he sort of hung around for a couple of more movies

Kirk Douglas (Einar)---The Vikings (Well, they did give him a funeral fit for a viking)

(John Mills?) British officer commanding the section of Peter O'Toole's army that was annihilated---Zulu Dawn

And one hopes PJ won't botch Theoden's end in ROTK.

By that time I was distracted with worry about what happened to the iceberg

The Leon character in 'Leon' was sad. Still, I loved how the last thing he does is hand something to the Gary Oldman character and it's a grenade pin. KABOOM!

I also liked Haldir's death.

I didn't like Boromir's death cuz it was too long before he stopped going.

Wow, I can't remeber the names if my life depended on it! I like that movie, but my friends don't because "all the cute guys die" and one of my friends had such a crush on Uncas that when she found out that he loved the blonde "chick" she flipped out! And when she was about to comit cuiside she yelled at the TV "That's right b****, you just die because you are a b****, and lay of my man, your the one who killed him in the first place you b****!" We all looked at her as if she was insane.

How about Samuel on Legends of the Fall? It freaks me out a bit what Brad Pitt does afterward, but I do like (gee, this is gonna sound morbid) that he's literally choking on his own blood. It's so well done, too, when Brad Pitt is running up, and you know he's not gonna reach his little brother on time. It's quite heartbreaking.
p.s. the rest of the movie is dumb.

The Terminator - Terminator 2 Kinda sad in a different way.

Oh, and Esparanza (spl?) on The Mask of Zorro. Quite a touching scene, even though she did have a little part.

Back to Jack Dawson... I can't remember if I cried (.. when I read about his widowed bride.. :p) when I watched that part. It's definately sad, but I already knew he was gonna die, cuz a friend told me. I don't think the "I'll never let go, Jack" is a dumb line. He told her never to let go of her promise to survive. She had to let him go to hold onto her promise. I like the Irish guy's death scene, though. He was such a cool guy, and then to just be shot over something that wasn't even his fault... so sad.

I have forgotten, is this supposed to be mourning your favorite charactor because they died?

Or is it supposed to be complementing the acting/film work of a death scene which you think is excelent?

I always went for option two. People die who deserve it for plot reasons. And plot reasons should be a good enough excuse for everybody.

I cried harder then I ever have during a movie when Tristien's little brother dies during Ledgends of the Falls. It was so sad becuase Tristen tried so hard and he couldn't make it! :( . I cried in Titanic too and I still do when I see it (yeah i'm a wuss) . And I also cried the first time I saw Romeo and Juliet.
Tyler Durden's death in fight club. Tyler is my favorite Charater in any movie of book I've ever seen and though I didn't cry, i was pretty sad. Oh, that was such a great movie! Possibly my faovrite

Haldir's death in TTT movie. :D

Seriously, the deaths that affected me the most were in The Great Escape, when the POW's were killed in the field after being let out of the truck. It was such a shock when I first watched it, and it never fails to move me to tears.

That movie was apparently quite accurate historically, and that particular scene did indeed happen, making it all the more tragic.

P.S. What did you think of James Coburn's Australian accent?

cassiopeia

I read the book by Paul Brickhill, and most of it's true. Except for Steve McQueen's character, if I remember correctly. It is my opinion nobody can do an Australian accent properly unless they are Australian. :D James Coburn died recently, didn't he? And Charles Bronson. :(

Mufasa in Lion King. Can't believe no-one's mentioned him.

My absolute favorite Disney movie of all time. I also cry like a baby at the begining and the end during the "Circle of Life" sequences.

I also cry at the end of "Field of Dreams" when Kevin Costner sees his father again and his father goes off into the field with James Earl Jones. I love that movie!

And I really cry at the end of Doctor Zhivago when Zhivago dies of a heart attack on the street after seeing Lara pass by the streetcar he is riding and she doesn't see him. **Waaaahhh!**

The scene that got me in "Titanic" was when Rose died and returned to the ship to be with Jack and all the people who had died before her, not when Jack died.

One of the saddest death scenes was in the TV version of Anne Frank's Diary. It was just so sad. Shows how traumatising it was in those death camps.:(

Rosie Gamgee
02-10-2004, 06:56 PM
Oh yeah! Mufasa! Poor guy. When I watched that the first time in theaters I totally embarrassed myself by crying my eyes out. Poor little Simba. Very sad indeed.

How about Danny in Pearl Harbor. Dolittle's Raid isn't quite accurate, I've heard, but his death is soooo devastating. I mean, he was the sweet guy- why couldn't Rafford get the bullets? Rafe's 'death' is kind of sad too. What gets me in that movie everytime I watch it, though, is thinking of all those poor guys trapped inside the ships as they sunk. How terrifing to be sunk alive, with no way of getting out. Very sad to think about.

Mel Gibson's wife on 'Signs'. Sad. Poor guy hardly even got to say goodbye. Later when his son almost dies is a really dramatic bit. Him clutching his son and Merril trying to say that he thinks he's dead, and poor little Bo looking worried and confused... heartwrenching. Especially when he says "Dad?" and it's like everything just melts away and you're soooo happy he didn't really die.

Beth in Little Women. No matter how many times I watch that potentially boring movie, I sob at the part where Beth dies. It's so beautiful for her to just go when no one's watching, without any of that movie-ish 'please don't leave me' stuff.

I've never seen that, but it sounds great.

Another great death scene I can't believe I forgot:
Rocky Dennis in Mask. That is such a touching scene when she finds him, and all the more sad because it is a true story.

l agree about Haldir! Poor thing! But what about Beast's 'death & transfiguration' scene in Beauty & The Beast ? Why hasn't anyone said that one yet? There's also Denethor's death scene (Which I only listed because I like it). But probably my favorite death scene of a character would be in Jekyll & Hyde, the Broadway version. It's Lucy's death scene. We're currently working on that in my high school & I'm on pit choir.:D

Thank you! I am a newbie. Theoden's death scene is really good, as is Gollum's (YAY!). I'm not sure if this could be considered a death scene, but what about Sauron's (When Barad-Dur falls)? There's also Sydney Carton's in A Tale Of Two Cities (That should count, since I was in a play of that), and Rasputin's death scene in Anastasia. That's all I can think of that haven't been mentioned.
