I want everyone's opinion of what they think the best movie is. what they think the best movie in the world is.
I'm curious to see what film gets the most votes.
Alright, here's the greates movie of all time in my opinion.
Schindler's List.

Good stuff, eh? That takes thought. As a slacker, I should refuse response to anything unless I vigorously hate it. :p
But I'll reply anyway: Good movies would include many kung fus, especcially Young Master. My favorite other movie would be Young Frankenstien. Good stuff!

Well, I haven't seen every movie ever made, so I can't give an educated answer. BUT, I sure can give an uneducated answer.
Dr. Strangelove (Or, How I blah blah blah) OR Requiem for a Dream OR UHF. I can't decide.

Well, I had to separate my favorite movie from what I thought was the greates.
If you can do that, please do;)

I'll admit I was having a bit of fun by mentioning UHF (though I do love it).
Though I did think of another one I think replaces the two I chose -- Focus.

who's in that? I've never heard of it.

I'm guessing if you like Schindler's List, you'd like Focus. It has William H. Macy, Laura Dern, and Meat Loaf (yes, the musician, who is also a very fine actor). It's based on an Arthur Miller novel set in Brooklyn during WWII, and it's about a gentile semi-anti-Semite who, upon getting some new glasses, everyone thinks is a Jew. It's a very subtle film, but also the most genuinely moving ones I've seen in many, many years. Please see it, though it is somewhat hard to find.
The film listing at IMDB for more info (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246628/)

Best movie---Godfather I and II (like Woody Boyd said in Cheers,"They should have stopped after two."
Favorite movie (great fun, especially if you are/were a history major in college) The Vikings:
Lord Egbert: "We do have an interesting form of torture, which is amusing, in a rather noisy sort of way."
Ragnar(Ernest Borgnine) "What's that?"
Egbert: "Nothing much. Just a pit full of wolves, half mad with starvation and trained to appreciate the flavour of human flesh."
Ragnar: (aside to Kirk Douglas as his son Ainar) "You see, I told you the English are civilized!"

Okay, obviously this thread is based on a matter of opinion, but what are we after- the best movie (meaning, in our opinions, what movie has, over-all, the best acting, story, score, director, etc.), or our favorite movie (meaning, if you were stuck out in the middle of the ocean on a deserted island for a hundred years and you could only pick one movie to take with you, what would it be)?
I cannot go by best, simply because I do not prefer movies necesarily or expressly for their acting or score and such.
So my favorite movie would probably be FotR.. or Pirates of the Caribbean. Although I'm leaning toward FotR. It would depend if I was allowed to take the LotR books with me or not;).

I usually do that 'cause it's the easiest way to list ones favourites.

way too many 'best' movies to list... and far too many favorites, too...
But if I were stuck on a desert island with only one to watch it would have to be La Dolce Vita by Federico Fellini.

I understood it well enough:)
I just dont get why it has to be so...., oh well, never mind.:D
Conan the Barbarian (any situation, desert island or comfortable living room)
What is best in life?
The open steppe, a fleet horse, falcons at your wrists, and the wind in your hair.
Wrong! Conan! what is best in life?
To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.
That is good!
Also, Basil Poulideres' (however you spell it) score rocks!

For long, I had three special favorites:
Raiders of the Lost Ark
North by Northwest
It's a Wonderful Life
(the last should not be over-done - or it becomes under-appreciated)
Now... there's just SO MANY out there! Most of the ones mentioned here are very good. With-holding final judgement for the last installment, but I'm hoping "Lord of the Rings" will soon top my list! :)

Its one of these very rare films that trailblazes a new path. i put it up there with maybe American Beauty and a few others as far as films in the past 10 years that took film making down a new road and did it well. it doesnt follow a standard formula or copy some hollywood script. its truly novel and thats a rare thing to hear about a film nowadays. and more then that its a home run on all levels. it subtle yet brutle and intensly psychological. its a brilliant work. maybe you guys need to give it a few years then see it again and then maybe youll be in a position to appreciate it more. it wont work if yer coming into it excpeting some hollywood carbon copy. its stands on its own.

Fight Club is a much better picture then Pulp Fiction. Totally different film models going on there. both unique in their own way which is good but very different. just because they had the whole first person narrater thing going on doesnt mean they were the same.
And American Beauty is wholly different. You think it was like Fight Club?

not in storyline of course.
in the way that they both are quirky and 'shocking-ish' both are kinda sick:p ;) .

One of the best? Yes.
The best ever? No, there are many others to my liking. Id have a hard time choosing thru my 'sick' collection, Hector.
Things you might see as demented might spark inspiration to someone else.
