With tomorrow's finale to the Matrix, and the original movie showing nightly on Spike, the idea comes up for me again to have a movie marathon based on the following idea:

Great roles by the LotR stars in other movies!

The idea is for a week-long pre-RotK viewing of movies in addition to the Extended FotR and TTT, so only one movie per actor.

What are your choices?

Elrond, The Matrix, of course

Samwise, Rudy
Frodo, Forever Young
Gandalf, Richard II
Gimli, Indiana Jones

but after that it starts to get difficult. Any takers?

Elrond - The adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert; much better than the Matrix IMO
Galdriel - Elizabeth
Samwise - Goonies
Frodo - Radio Flyer
Legolas - Black Hawk Down (just for the kicks of seeing him fall out of the helicopter)
Wormtongue - Child's Play
Gimli - IJ and the Last Crusade

Sam -- Encino Man (hey, it's harmless fun!)
Gandalf -- Gods and Monsters (he's brilliant.)
Aragorn -- A Perfect Murder (he's in it, 'nuff said :) )
Galadriel -- Elizabeth (she's brilliant.)
Frodo -- The Faculty (well I thought it was okay).

You did all the hard work for me. :p

Nice selection there. Only I'd probably change 'Lij's one to The Ice Storm, or whatever it's called. Oh, and add Gods and Monsters for Ian (v. good movie there.)

We have a thread about other movies the actors have been in here. (http://entmoot.tolkientrail.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6792) Is this one somehow different, or should I merge this one with that one?

Two ways this is different from that:

1. This is about one movie by each of the main characters that would be viewed in a marathon. That one is about lists of all movies by anyone in these movies, which anyone could do by searching names at imdb.com.

2. That thread died almost a year ago. This is something fun to do before or after seeing RotK.

Billy Boyd is supposed to be in that new Russel Crowe film, "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World"

That's fine, I just wasn't sure.

Technically that thread is still a valid one because the last post was made less than 5 months ago, which would be under the 6 month rule. But since your thread is different anyway, it doesn't matter.

Good choice of movie to represent Billy. He actually has a significant supporting role.in the movie (more then a cameo type bit). I didn't know he was in it when I saw the movie 11/25 and it was kind of weird the first few times I saw him in scenes. I couldn't remember for a while if he was Pippin or Merry. (hope Merry wasn't the guy who fell in the ocean going around the cape)

Also,
Elijah Wood---Avalon
Cate Blanchett---Missing
San Astin---Rudy
