I challenge YOU to write a happy poem.

I mean everywhere you go you find lots of angst 'Bullets... blood... death... vampire' poems, but rarely any happy ones!

So c'mon and write something happy, and don't say 'I can't' because you can. If you can expound on death you can expound on flowers and rainbows. Get cracking. ;)

Just to get things started:

Dragon flying in the sky,
Take me on a starlit ride,
Take me far and take me fast,
Till from dreams my mind has passed.

Sunshine, butterflies, morning dew
I wish a happy day to you!
Ponies, ribbons, candy
I truly hope your day is dandy.
music, meadows and games,
this poem is happy but lame.

Happy? So many things make me happy.....but they're all just little things.

Little things make me happy
when big things make me sad.
When life's unfair,
it's the little things that always make me glad.

A cozy fire someone made,
a comfy place to sit.
A glass of wine, with lots of time
my inner glow get's lit.

Finding clothes at Goodwill
that are beautiful to wear,
looking in the mirror,
and liking silver hair.

Sitting at the computer,
while talking to unmet friends.
A place to go and chat away,
the lonliness quickly ends.

The dinner tastes delicious,
They liked the food I made.
The dryer hums, the clothes are clean,
The sheets are freshly laid.

Coffee in the morning,
While work is briskly done.
Time is left to take a nap,
Being alone is so much fun.

I'm thankful for the little things,
That make me smile and sigh.
They make my life worth living,
and serenity is high.

I'll try this... don't shoot me if it's more sad than happy.

I sit.
Quiet contemplation in the sunlight.
Toes stretched in the grass, my world is the smell of
Green.
Warmth and sunshine are my only links to the place outside my
Eyelids.
When
I sit
Like this,
I can feel the
Growing of the
World,
and the turning of the
Earth.

A Tree's Tree
by Nurvingiel

Thuja* is my little tree
Nearly two years old
He's growing by my window
Never suffers from the cold.

He's a Western redcedar
He'll grow up strong and tall
A lovely tree with fluted trunk
Providing shade for all.

*Pronounced "Thoo-ya"

I really do have a tree named Thuja who lives by my window. (Indoors, in a pot.)

This isn't mine, and it's actually a song, but it really makes me happy. Not like jumping-up-and-down-screaming happy, but sitting-quietly-in-the-sun happy.

Tom's Diner
I am sitting in the morning in the diner on the corner
I am waiting at the counter for the man to pour the coffee
And he fills it only halfway,
And before I even argue,
He is looking out the window
At somebody coming in.

It is always nice to see you
Says the man behind the counter
To the woman who has come in, she is shaking her umbrella
And I look the other way as they are kissing their hellos,
And I'm pretending not to see them,
And instead I pour the milk

I open up the paper, there's a story of an actor
Who had died while he was drinking, it was no one I had heard of
And I'm turning to the horoscope, and looking for the funnies
When I'm feeling some one watching me, and so I raise my head.

There's a woman on the outside looking inside, does she see me?
No she does not really see me, as she sees her own reflection
And I'm trying not to notice that she's hitching up her skirts,
And while she's straightening her stockings, her hair has gotten
Wet.
Oh this rain it will continue through the morning as I'm listening
To the bells of the cathedral.
I am thinking of your voice.
