I decided in the midst of a particularly large bout of washing up (it’s amazing just how much washing up liquid fumes can affect your brain) that there were certain songs that you associate with scenes from films. Hence I produced Lord of the Rings: Unofficial Sound Track. So, in no particular order, here are my songs…
1) Thin Lizzy, The Boys are Back in Town: when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli reach Rohan.
2) Run DMC feat. Aerosmith, Walk This Way: when the fellowship travels through Moria.
3) Stereophonics, Maybe Tomorrow: whenever a hobbit is on screen after leaving The Shire.
4) Beautiful South, Don’t Marry Her: when Eowyn looks at Aragorn.
5) Savage Garden, (Had to get some in there somewhere) Crash and Burn: when Sam is on screen with Frodo.
6) Queen, We are the Champions: after they win at Helm’s Deep.
7) Christina Aguilera, Beautiful: Gollum’s Song
Feel free to comment, criticise or edit the list.
I looked through my albums to accumulate this list but found a majority of songs are more related to the Harry Potter ‘verse. Funny that…

I've been thinking about Forever Young by Rod Stewart as kind of Sam and Frodo's song, especially the last verse. There's a few songs like that but I can't think of them at the moment.
Cool list, btw.

I think that this type of topic was written somewhere.
For a tune how about "Trees" by RUSH in scenes dealing with the Ents and Isengard.
"There is unrest in the forest,
trouble with the trees . . ."
IronParrot,
Can we wait till you get home before we shoot you? ;)
(Just Kidding. I could not resist the reference to WB.)

hectorberlioz,
I think the reference for the songs was not to have the lyrics sung during the movie, but to have the music of the songs played during the various scenes of the movie.

Or, what if we had this sort of Rockie Horror Lord of teh Rings where people would come in costume and jump up to sing these popular songs at key moments. I know - how about "Love the One You're With" for a dramatic scene with Aragorn and Eowyn. Or "You Can't Always Get What You Want" at the gifting scene in the Extended FotR. Nono... I know ... the whole theatre singing "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" during the Gandalf / Saruman fight scene!!!!

At the risk of starting a silly trend, here's some more:
Eomer's troops attack the orc camp to the tune of "Riders on the Storm."
Aragorn floating down the river to the tune of "Drift Away."
The orcs' retreat at Helms Deep is shown to the tune of Michael Jackson's "Beat it."
The pyre of Denethor scenes are shown to the sounds of the 70s tune, "I go crazy."
The scenes showing the tower of Barad-dur and the eye of Sauron could feature the Police song, "I'll be watching you."
The scenes of Frodo and Sam walking could be shown to the tune of the Dionne Warwick, Elton John, and Stevie Wonder hit, "That's what friends are for."

I have always thought that Carry That Weight by The Beatles was appropriate for Frodo:
Boy, you're gonna carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
Boy, you're gonna carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time

Black Breathalizer ,
Funny choices :) :D
How about Elton John's " I'm still standing" after Gandalf's fight with the Balrog.

Elfhelm,
Good choices as well.
Your comment on RHPS is a bit chilling. Someon I knew @ college really went overboard with RHPS and I though that was silly. Hopefully LOTR will never get to that level of silliness. :o ;)

As the lighting thunders in the background and the rain begins to fall on the rag-tag group of soldiers defending Helm's Deep against 10,000 Uruks, we hear...the lyrics to an old Carpenters' tune:
"Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down..."

Boromir (when he's talking to Aragorn about "I heard a voice inside my head":) - Unwell, by (????)
I'm not crazy,
I'm just a little unwell,
I know right now you can't tell,
but stay a while and maybe then you'll see
a different side of me
Aragorn to Arwen in Rivendell: (I don't know the name of the song, nor the artist)
Hey pretty lady won't you give my a sign,
I'd give anything to make you mine oh mine
I'll do your biddin' and be at your beck and call!
I'd never seen anyone lookin' so fine,
Man I gotta have her she's a one of a kind
I'm goin' once, goin' twice
I'm sold to the lady in the long black(um, well, she never wears black, but)dress,
Well she won my heart it was no contest
With her ruby red lips, blonde hair(well...) blue eyes
I'm about to kiss my heart goodbye!:p

Beor's songs made me think of another good ZZ Top possibility:
At that dramatic moment when Gandalf the White reveals himself to Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli we hear the upbeat lyrics of ZZ Top singing:
"Everybody's crazy 'bout a Sharp Dressed Man..."
