I couldnt believe it when i searched for atremis fowl and found nothing. So i thought id start a thread.

There are three books in the series.
Artemis fowl
The arctic incident
The eternity code
I have read all three and think they are great. I love the way he writes and i find it really hard to stop reading once i get started.

On holiday i found another book by him but not in the series called the wish list. It was really good.

Anyone else read any?

definetely. they are a good laugh and you get really attached to the characters.

They are thinking about making a film of them. but i dont know when it is coming out. I suggest you read the books before the film comes out. more surprise that way :)

They are written for children, but I liked them very much anyway. I find that well-written children's books are often worth an adult's time.

I've read the 3 that are in the series so far and enjoyed them very much. Have to admit that I laughed out loud in the first book when I read about "LEPRECON." :D

Has anyone worked out the code writing at the bottom of the pages? There's a separate code for each book and they get harder. I've worked out all of them and i know for a fact that there will be a fourth book. I love them, they're so funny and refreshing.

I didnt know that the codes at the bottom could actually be figured out. Well theres a challenge for the weekend!

A fourth book eh? yippeee!!!

I'm starting the first Artemis Fowl book probably tonight. It's in the on-deck circle on my reading list.

I'll be sure to post my thoughts.

Wow. I was very impressed with just how much I enjoyed the first book. True, you can't quite compare it to the far more fleshed-out modern magical society created by J.K. Rowling, and some of the (toilet) humour is aimed a bit low, but... this book was just so much fun!

I'm definitely going to move on to the second and third books as soon as I can get a hand on my brother's copies.

Not everyone likes every book!

And I think Elvedans mentioned above about cracking the code. I'm not good at that sort of thing so can't even give you any hints.

And BTW, welcome Peperheart :)

I was going to figure out the code, but upon realizing there was a whole page of it translated in the middle, I just looked it up on the Net.

Now I live in America, and there's no code, or prose referring to code, in the last two books over here. On the website I got the translation of it, it said that the code and text referring to it had been cut out of American editions! Any idea why?

I liked these books. "The Eternity Code" was my favorite one, though. I think maybe it's a thing with me to have the third books be my favorite ones.

I LOVE Artemis Fowl!!! I liked Arctic Incident and #1 best. I didn't like Eternity code that much. Why doesn't the first have a subtitle anyway???
The LEPrecon was cool!! Very unique of Eoin Colfer (btw, how do you pronounce Eoin?)

i think it's pronounced like the name "Owen" (and not like "Eowyn" *giggle*) and i guess "Colfer" is fairly phonetic.

i've read the first two books, and they were ok. i have the third book and that wish list book, but i haven't read them yet. i'm not really all that enthused to read them, to be honest.

something tells me the movie is going to take a while. nothing seems to be getting done! :p

Yeah, it looks like it's pronounced Eowyn, but I didn't think it was. Owen makes sense though.

I've only read the first two *makes mentle note to buy the third* and I enjoyed them. Very unique. It'll be fun to see what the movie will turn out like.

Now since you have all mentioned a code my curiosity is getting the better of me so I'm going to have to forsake Entmoot to try and crack it......

NO!! Musn't forsake entmoot. Bad Lal!!! Very bad Lal!!! Go stick your ears in the oven!!
(Sorry, I sounded kinda like Dobby to me. I had to add that:D )

don't bother cracking the codes unless you're 10 years old. i can't remember what the first one said, but it was naff, and the second one said something about you being able to decipher the code because you are half fairy, and that you have to take care of the environment. *naff*

the third one is equally naff, saying that you have to give a message to anyone you see with an artemis fowl book, so that the message that mulch diggums has his memory will eventually reach the ears of artemis fowl himself.

ok so i got bored one day... :p

Ah. Well written books, and pretty funny. The first had an interesting plot line, but the second wasn't so interesting to me. I have to admit, I loved the LEPrecon thing too.

Despite what Luinilwen says, now I have to crack the code. :D I'm bored right now and I need something to do.

I thought it was pronounced Ewan.

luinilwen

It could very well be. I think I originally got the idea from the comedian "Jimeoin", as his name is pronounced "Jim-owen", not "Jimmy-oyn" or something like that.

Are there any Irish Entmooters? :D

*edit* just found a website for the pronounciation of Irish names:

Irish Names for Children (http://www.hylit.com/info/Names/Irishnamenofada.html)

NAME: Eoin
Pronounciation: OWE-in
Other Spellings: Eoghan
English Equivalent: Owen (John)

I was watching something on TV the otherday and Eoin was pronounced like 'Owen'.

Hanza

he was on blue peter and they saod it Owen so im guessing thats right. id always been saying eoin before so hey. apparently from very reliable sources (ie. my brother and his internet movie searching skills) they arent gonna make it into a film :( which is both good and bad. good cos almost always films are worse than the books. bad cos it would be interesting to see how they did it and stuff. wonder who would play everyone..
