I've been trying to talk my little brother into reading th Hobbit, but so far he refuses. I'm pretty sure he's just being spitefull, but he wants me to read Harry Potter and The Scorcerer's Stone, and in return, he /claims/ he will read the Hobbit.
However, I plan to read The Silmarillion, from which I don't want to distract myself. I also very much do not want to read any Harry Potter.
So I want to hear it from you. Is it worth it? Should I read the Scorerer's Stone so he'll read the Hobbit? What do the rounded readers think?

It's a fair exchange. Reading the whole series will take you as long as it will for him to read the Hobbit. Besides which, the books are good reads.

Yeah it is deffinately a fair exchange!
The Harry Potter books are really good to read and are alot better than the movies (if they have put you off reading the books) Give it a try but if you really don't get into it (which i doubt :P) there is nothing stopping you putting it down and not carrying on, at least you've given it ago. :D

Eh...It's kinda fair...though I would prefer LotR over HP...but think of it this way: You are exsposing another young mind to LotR, which is a very good thing!! :)

It's a good read, though it doesn't get really interesting until Prisoner of Azkaban.

I'd give it a try. You may like it, and it would be worth having your brother read the Hobbit. It might turn him onto the rest of Tolkien's books.

Harry potter is a good exchange, and well, in my opinion, a tad more interesting than the Silmarillion(aka in my mind 'The Elven bible')

It is very much a fair exchange. If you liked The Hobbit, you would most likely enjoy Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone. I loved both books.

It's a fair exchange. Besides, you'd be getting him hooked on Tolkien ;)
So, what did you decide? did you read Harry Potter?

well, i'd say it was pretty fair, if he was acually gonna read the hobbit, but when you finish the Silmarillion you should read them anyway, i mean the HP books are pretty good but even combined they couldn't measure up to the hobbit, that was an extreemly good book!
