I just bought a wide screen Hitachi 57" television along with a nice progressive scan DVD player in time for the release of TTT. I can't wait. I popped in the Extended FOTR and the difference between this and my old tv is unbelievable. I'm seeing things that I never even noticed before like cob webs, beads of sweat, textures within the Mines of Moria, etc, and I've watched it probably 10 times before this. Plus their are the parts that were cut out due to my prior 4:3 screen size.
If anyone out there is considering this type of purchase, I highly recommend it for Lord of the Rings and movies in general.

That sounds wonderful -- so when are we all invited for the screening of the EE? ;)
Or better yet -- anyone have a spare few thousand to give me for my own?:D
Seriously, though, I do plan to eventually get something like that. It may just take me several years. Maybe at some point the price of the new type of tvs (wide-screen, HD and all) will go down (I hope).

The price really wasn't too bad, relatively speaking. I paid 2700 at Circuit City with taxes, and they threw in the DVD player and the monster cables. I've been saving for quite a while. I could never afford one of those plasma screens.
I wish I could have you all over for a marathon viewing. I have precious few people around here who are true fans and appreciate it for more than just a good movie.:)

my mom wants to get a tv like that in the next year or so, which will make a trilogy marathon of all 3 movies so much better:p

Wow. That's so cheap. You'd never be able to pick up something that big in the NZ equivalent dollar.

We've had the Two Towers saved to the computer from discs a bit after it came out, so I'm laid back until the released. Besides, my dad said that we're going to wait for the extended version. My TV is crap, by the way, black and white. I don't even need a DVD player anyway.
