Okay, soon the "normal" TTT DVD is going to be released.
Are you going to buy it? Or are you going to wait for the Extended one?
What features do you think will be included on the discs and what would you love to see?

And BTW, did you hear which some of the additional scenes on the Extended will be? Great scenes. A lot more of the book, another fan DVD, I'd say.

Although it would probably not happen, I would like the ext. DVD of TTT to have an option of playing the theatrical version of the film.

I was disappointed because the FotR Extended DVD didn't have the extras from the first one of it.
But okay, that's a question of making money.

I agree about wanting the extras from the Theatrical DVD added to the EE DVD in addition to the extras from the EE DVD. You are probably right about the making money aspect.

I will buy the ex edition. I never have watched the extras on my DVD from FoTR! I'm don't like to see the actors out of role, and I don't want to hear about "the making of the movie". Just the story please!

Ah, then you are a person who just wants to enjoy the movie and doesn't want to know the background.
I'm on the other side. I love to know everything.

I'm on the other side. I love to know everything. I'm the same: I love seeing all the "making-of" features, interviews...I'm especially inerested in costumes and sets. My family will probably end up getting both.

I will be renting the TT DVD and buying the extended edition. I love watching the extras. The technical parts are very interesting. And the actors are all very intelligent and funny.
I was disapointed the FOTR EE didn't have Enya's music video. I think it was on the earlier DVD.

Yup. New Line will earn some money with me.
Last year I only had the Extended but I don't think that I can wait that long this year.

Lalaith I too feel the same way. I've pre-ordered the last two movies and won't be getting TTT until later this month. While I enjoy the backround information on the version I got of LOTR it's the movie itself that interests me more. After all once you've seen how Middle Earth was created etc. the rest is redundant at best. I do hope that the ROTK comes out sooner than the last two.

I don't think that RotK will be released earlier.

I'm waiting for The Extended Edition.
But i preffered some of the extras on the normal one.
I thought they were going to be the same but with more.

I found out that Blockbuster is doing a similar deal as with FotR. You pay $29.99 and get the dvd and 7 rentals. Yay!:D (Not as good as the other, but still good enough for me!)

Last year I didn't have a DVD but I bought the extended VHS and rented the original.
This year I have ordered the original and probably buy the EE later, or I might copy if I finally get the DVD writer that I want :D

My family pre-orderd TTT (and we get a free poster Yay:D) but we will probably get the EE as well. In my opinion it is good to have both don't know why  :D I'm just wierd like that:D .

Well, now I'm undecided because WalMart will have it for $18, and I don't really care about the rentals anyway, so I'm not sure.
I'm glad I got them both last time because they not only added scenes, but changed it from the theatrical release. So this way I have both versions. :)

I bought both editions of FOTR and I don't think the theatrical one has seen very much use ever since I got the Extended Edition, but I will be buying both editions of the TTT DVD anyway.

I went and got mine this AM. I'm about to go look at all the "extries":D . There's the 10 minute preview of RotK thingy AND an "Inside Look" at the EE! It also includes The Long and Short of It, etc.
I ended up getting it for $15 at Kmart, and the Sunday paper had a $5 rebate for it if you buy 2 Duracell battery packs, so I'll end up getting it for $10 after I send that in.:)

I like the trailer for the extended version of TTT. They know their market to be able to pitch one version with another. I'm just renting the theatrical until the EE comes out. I never watched the TE once I got the EE anyway. Good stuff!

I bought the DVD today unlike last year, when I just bought it on VHS. I'll still buy the EE when it comes out in November though.

Unfortunately, I don't have a DVD player since I didn't pack one when I was getting stuff together to go to college, so I'll have to wait until Friday when I go home to watch it. :(

My local Blockbuster had that deal too, azalea, so I gave in and bought it. I'm one of those that like all the little extras and "how they did it" things, and there's some old classic movies I'd like to see, so I'll use the rentals - at least that's how I rationalized it! Also rationalized by considering it a post-op treat!

I just watched the "sounds" extra last night on the TE FoTR and enjoyed it quite a bit - the Black Rider's voices were based on: Fran Walsh's screams.

Cirdan
08-27-2003, 12:32 AM
That bit was on the FotR disc, Rian.

Good luck on your surgery. It was one year ago today(8/27) I went under the knife. Nasty business but that too shall pass.:)

Rían
08-27-2003, 01:37 AM
yes; "TE FoTR" meant Theatrical Edition FotR :) (altho I just checked and it was actually the EE FoTR - Extended Edition FoTR)

I've had it for a year and never watched the sound documentary until last night! Very interesting - I liked the cinder block effect for the Balrog, too.

Thanks for the good wishes :) I get my car back tomorrow and will pick up my TT DVD and try to restrain myself from watching until I"m back from surgery. Ugh! "knife" and "me" in the same sentence - not too nice :(

I just have to mention that I watched the Starz TT special they included on the disc, and when Peter Jackson said something like " This film had to be made by someone who understands how to use special effects judiciously, because this is the type of movie where the storyline could be easily overwhelmed by special effects," I could just hear Jerseydevil laughing very loud at that (except that I've never heard his voice, so I don't know what his laugh sounds like, but I heard his virtual "scornful laugh!":) )
I also thought it was funny when Elijah told how people would come up and say about FotR "Dude, what's up with the ending?" because they didn't realize it was a trilogy ( :P ) and I remember mooters who posted that people said the same thing to them!

I enjoyed The Long and Short of It, but I think I enjoyed The Making of The Long and Short of It more than the actual movie.:)

I made my husband stay up and watch it with me since he hadn't seen it yet, and he is just the type of audience member that they had to allow for when they were making it. He had a hard time keeping up with the names, who people were, and where they were and why (I know other non-book-readers who needed me to explain who the Rohirrim were and why Aragorn, etc. were in Rohan, fighting there, etc.) -- he even forgot why Frodo and Sam were trying to get into the Black Gate! ::rolleyes::
I of course told him afterward about what was different from the book (without giving too much away since he'll be reading it soon).

So basically the tolkienite version of hazing.:D

Funny about JD's laughing. I thought the preview for RotK showed PJ displaying heretofore unseen levels of excitement about the plot (not exceeding excitement about the SFX, though).

The preview of the EE of TTT looks like it will satisfy most of my wants as far as stuff missing. (There was some "Flotsam and Jetsam" in there it appears.)

Ok so I got the TTT DVD yesterday and I've watched the 10-minute preview for Return of the King. I want to comment on one thing, my favorite part of RotK, which is the Paths of the Dead. I will spare those of you who haven't seen it yet with the spoiler code :D

Ok, so I am all very excited about Return of the King, because it is going to be the best movie out of all of them, just as the book was the best out of all of them :D I've been sweating wondering if Paths of the Dead was going to be in the movie and now I know it will be because I saw the 10-minute preview on the DVD. I am however going to be disappointed if it turns out the way it looked in the preview. Only disappointed in the sense of who goes to the Paths of the Dead, not it's looks. It appears to only have Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli going to the Paths of the Dead and there are none of the Dúnedain taking the trip as it happens in the book. I really hope it doesn't happen that way, because that would mean the Dúnedain will most likely be cut from other things and this would suck because they are such an integral role to the story of Aragorn :( Either way I will be happy and excited to see Paths of the Dead, but disappointed in that respect!

I already bought the theatrical release of TTT (and was ripped off, but I didn't feel like going into town so I bought it at the local movie place), and I plan on getting the collector's extended edition in November. I paid for both with my own money, since I rarely spend it and I only pay one small bill a month, so I figure I can splurge once in awhile. I'll just not buy any new clothes for a year to make up for it.

ARG! It is SO HARD to not watch the preview of ROTK. I really don't want anything spoiled.

Yeah, I knew something was wrong with that shot, but didn't think about it until I read your post! Where is everybody? I doubt they'll include them, although it wouldn't be very hard just to say, "oh, here come the other Rangers to assist us blah blah blah," but Jackson might think it just an unnecessary intrusion at this point.

I was thinking about that as well when I was watching the the preview of the Paths of the Dead. My feeling is that there won't be any Rangers, just Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli.

Of course, in the preview they didn't include the best bits, like Mt. Doom, Cirith Ungol, Shelob or the Grey Havens.

Actually, I have not seen any commercials for it, which I find strange. Granted, I don't watch a lot of tv, but although I've seen it advertised in the circulars in the paper, I've not seen even one tv ad for it.

Yes, Spock, go down to "more" on your tv screen and click on it, then you'll get a whole other page of options, including the RotK preview (it's not very detailed as far as spoilers go, but you get a nice taste of what's to come!).

On a different note, I wanted to mention something related to the "Aragorn falls off cliff" sequence. In one of the shows incuded on the dvd that was a done as a preview show before the movie came out (I think the WB one), the narrator says something like "Arwen comes to him in a dream" or something. But the people making the show were dumb because to illustrate that, they show the wrong clip -- they show the flashback of the two of them in Rivendell. I know that was confusing for a lot of people who didn't understand it was a flashback, that when he says "This is a dream," he was saying that he couldn't believe he was really there with her in R (as if he'd actually be so blatent as to state bluntly "this is a dream!"). And I personally don't even think the "May the grace of the Valar keep you from harm" was supposed to be her "coming to him", I think that is something she said in Rivendell, too, and the fact that she asked that "blessing" on him was what kept him from dying (or, what would be stupider, brings him back to life. But I think it's the former). Just thought I'd comment on that.
