I read them. Winding Circle is okay, but repetitive. The Circle Opens is awful, repetitive, and clearly done only to make money. Couldn't get through the third one.
One of Tamora Pierce's biggest faults is a tendency to do practically identical plots.

Fine. In my opinion, the Circle Opens is awful, repetitive, and clearly done only to make money.
:D
No, but seriously, she was running out of ideas. Carpenter mages? Cook mages?
And also, she needs to realize that they don't all have to follow the same form. A little interaction between the rest of the original mages and the students would be nice. For instance, Daja and what's-her-name, the stone mage, might be friends. You know, stones and metals go together so well. They could make jewelry and stuff.

Not to be mean or anything, but I'd like to point out that Daja and Evvy couldn't be friends, not at that point anyway, because they hadn't met yet. How're you supposed to be friends with someone you've never met?
I thought the first book in The Circle Opens was extremely boring, but the second and third were better. I haven't finished the fourth. Her other three series were okay.

No, that's my point. It gets boring if Pierce sticks to the same 'plot format' for every book. (in this case having only the teacher and the student in the same region.) It would be far more interesting if she bothered to work in a little more interaction.

Okay, well, that's your opinion. I don't agree with it, but we're all entitled to our own opinions. :)
