Holocaust Literature

Sorry if there is already a thread about this- in which case, the search engine is to blame! :)

I've read 'The Diary of Anne Frank', 'Night' by Elie Wiesel and 'Elli' by Livia E Bitton Jackson. I loved them all, but 'Ell' was my favourite. I'd like to read 'Schindler's Ark' by Thomas Keneally, which the film 'Schindler's List' was based on.

I love Holocaust literature because it provides an amazing insight into one of the most infamous periods of time in history- and it was so recent. I'll discuss some of the events I've read about later.

What Holocaust Literature have you read? Do you like it? Why/why not?

well theres a book on my to read list by Leon Uris called Mila 18... ill just post i bit of the blurb.It tells how the Warsaw Jews lived and how they died of starvation, execution and mass murder before the revolt began.
It is a story of anguish and heroism as the brave freedom-fighters defied the Nazis with home-made weapons and bare fists in one of the most heroic struggles of modern times. anyway sounds good but i should post after i read the book eh:p

I've read The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, which I think others have discussed on some thread. It was very moving, an emotionally difficult but inspiring book.

I have also read "The Diary of Anne Frank"by Anne Frank and liked it, except for a few parts. And I read "Schindler's Ark" by Tomas Kaneally because my Mom saw the movie and said we HAD to read the book. I have also been to the new "Holocaust (sp?) Memorial Museum" in Washington, DC, and I felt that, that place was more accurate, touching, fulfilling, dramatic and painful. It showed full black and white pictures of what they did. It showed "examples" of the things they took. And it had video's of the experiments they did on the Jews and some videos of people who survived the "H" and it even had a memorial chamber with candles EVERYWHERE in memory of those who died. I think, if you read some books about the "H" and have NOT shed one tear, then go there and you will cry till you have nothing left.

I read the Diary of Anne Franke and the book was good, but I (what a shame to say), I didn't like the character of Anne. But the book was really good.
In school we are reading a lot of after-war books.

I've read 'Elli', 'The Diary of Anne Frank', Shindler's Ark,' and probably others that I've forgotten. My sister's obsessed with the Holocaust, so all she reads are books on that subject.
I don't like reading about it that much - it's so sad, and makes me depressed.

I love reading books that make me 'depressed'- they are insightful and make me realise just how lucky I am. I'm referring to those depressing books that have stories set in infamous periods of time, i.e. Holocaust, Apartheid..

Holocaust books also make me feel sick. For those who have read 'Elli'- what Felicia is made to do to her own family is horrifying and made me wonder how much more 'evil' human nature can get than that. She had to shoot her own parents, husband & baby. When she didn't, the SS soldiers tore her baby in two in front of her.

"Number the Stars" was ok. My fourth grade teacher read it to the class. There wasn't much feeling in it though.
