if the music isn't mess up you're safe, at least that's what my friend in Canada said, my dad has Kazzaa lite and it is better than regular kazzaa, but we live in TX so I have nothing to worry about, u should get kazzaa lite, no pop up ads

Does Kazaa still have spyware? That's the reason I gave it up in the first place. Dubious bastards. I'm now waiting for apple to get their a into g and let non-US residents download off their site.

Whatever crack down happens will never work. There is always another fileshare program to take Kazaa's place. Besides, there isn't even the manpower to arrest that many people and keep track of the charges against them.

I used to use Soulseek, the downloads were pretty reliable and fast, but the server itself was always going down for repairs or whatever so I got annoyed and switched to kazaa lite.

No they arent going to arrest anybody. Just sue people. And big time too. Like minimum of $15,000 for EACH song if its pirated (which 99.9% of all file sharing music files are of course). But they are only going after the big fish. The kids in colleges and the DJs who have libraries of 20, 30, 50 thousand songs that they keep online 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Generally not the 13 year old with 100 songs theyve downloaded. So relax unless you have some super massive collection. They cant catch us all. The f*#%ers!! This decision by the music industry has only steeled my reserve about downloading free songs. Im not buying any more CDs now unless its custom stuff. Take it to the man! They cant get around the internet. There will always be another way to get past the greedy system. Maybe if they would realize that they need to offer a carrot rather then just walk people with a stick then they might get some cooperation.

BoP:

If I am correct, Kazaa has spyware. Kazaa Lite does not.

Pardon me for asking, but isn't getting products without paying greedy also?

i would say using artists to overcharge the public for CDs to the tune of $4 billion a year is significantly more greedy then downloading a song from a 28 year old unknown album that you cant buy anymore in stores. If the music corporations would sell music at the rate it truly should cost I would have no complaints about paying for it. Just because someone has you by the nuts doesnt mean you have to put up with it if theres a way to avoid it.

my dad said there r lots of cops who have it, and my dad says it's a ministry cause all he has is gosple (Carman, Petra, Michael W. Smith, ECT.) and if somebody sees it and doesn't know what it is and says, I'll download this just to see what it is, and the message hits home, that's a soul that u might not have been able to reach any other way

Nobody has the grounds to charge you for possession of a file transfer client. There's no legislation there. They have to prove that transfers of copyrighted material has taken place.

I use KaZaA Lite, but sparingly - I hardly ever need to download music, unless I'm trying to learn a new song by ear or something. Too much stuff to listen to already, see.

I don't think the fact that commercial music is overpriced justifies stealing it, in an ethical sense. It's tantamount to shoplifting (and motivated by the same factors, I might add). But what do I know... I do it, don't I? On the other hand, I only download singles that are almost impossible to find in stores, or only exist on albums that otherwise suck.

Well, in the US they CAN go after ppl with a lot of music. Why can't they?

I heard that they will eventually be cracking down on users that are sharing A LOT. Like some people on kazaa have thousands of files. I keep my files shared under 100 because of all these threats to actually go after ppl - i bet they will go after the largest sharers and ppl obviously stealing copyrighted programs and songs.

Kazaa lite is no better or different except that there is no spyware. I deleted most of the spyware in my regular kazaa and I just don't upgrade to the newer versions - so i think I'm ok.

what if I am not letting anyone download my files just downloading from them?(I'm not selfish, i just have a 56K modem, and to download from that would be hell)also, I use iMesh, which is a very good program, and I believe they are safe.

i think they are just go after people who share music. i dont share it. if you go to options and go to traffic there is a button that says disable of sharing files and thats what i have.

I heard of this one kid who was arrested and he only had 5 songs downloaded. Probably some rumor that got changed from 5 huge files to "only 5 songs." Then again I could be completely wrong both ways.:D
