I wish Kevin Wallace and his entire team the greatest success. It finally came down to "Put up or Shut Up" and we could not raise the money to exercize the option on the rights. Hey, 8 million pounds is a lot of money! It is somewhat gratifying to know that at least my idea of a musical based on LotR wasn't so far fetched and will come to fruition. (Gosh I hope I can wrangle opening night tickets.) It will be sweet torture watching every scene and listening to every song thinking "I wrote that differently." I would also like to thank Ben for providing my idea of a Tolkien musical a home for these last two years.
I would also like to thank all of you for your ideas, posts and interest over the last two years. I would only hope that Tolkien Trail would remain a great "forum" for discussion of the musical at least until an Official Musical Site is up and running.
Thanks again.

That's a real shame.:( Yes, raising 8 million pounds would be a very difficult thing to do, I imagine! I only hope that what they're doing is as good as what I saw of yours, and that they put the "heart" into that you did, as a Tolkien fan, rather than to be doing it solely for the more tangible aspects of it.
What will become YOUR work?

Coney and Azalea,
Thank you for the kind words. I am glad you appreciated my work. I may try to contact Mr. Wallace and his creative team and offer the script and songs...who knows if he likes them part of my script might end up in theirs....though highly unlikely. I have also worked on a number of shows as a dramaturge (script doctor) so there might be a chance at some creative input on that level. Another option is pursuing a production in smaller venues. (There have been two versions of Phantom of the Opera floating around for years....though I can't really envision a "low-budget" version of LotR.) Perhaps I will explore a concert version of my script. All humility aside, I think some of the lyrics and music I have written are both very beautiful and very powerful.
Perhaps I was Don Quixote...tilting at windmills all along but I knew in my heart that LotR should be a musical. Perhaps it is less important to me that it gets done than I be the one to do it. Of course I will miss the royalties greatly! LOL.

:( I'm sorry Hama. That would have been awesome to have your script and lyrics onstage. After all that work, you should definately try to get them to use your stuff. It's great! Anyway, my condolances and best luck with whatever you decide to do from here! :)

Galvenar,
I have had the honor of sitting in an audience and listening to incredibly talented people live my thoughts and sing my words. There is nothing like it. (Okay, really good sex is close but I wouldn't want to do that with 1,000 people watching.) I am a little depressed but once again...there will be a musical based on LotR...that was my dream. Let it be the whole world's reality....

I'm debating whether I should give you a standing ovation, or buy you a drink. ;)

Galvenar,
For the life of me I cannot figure out why you should have to make such a choice. BOTH would be quite nice. Ah, now which should you do first? Now there is the rub!

So do you have any plans for the musical score hama?
Maybe it could be adapted to another project some day?
Re: drink/standing ovation.............usually best to do the standing part first, gets a bit tricky after a drink or seven ;)

LOL! :D
I wasn't sure if you were a drinking man or not. Better safe than sorry. ;) What's your pleasure?
