Now that is funny.
I'm pretty sure it is a joke. No one in their right mind would put something like that up without expecting others to ridicule and mock them.

In case you didn't know, that site is actually a parody of a serious site protesting The Two Towers because of 9/11. It's been around for ages.
(Can't find the address of the original site, though... will look later)

they could go a step further and want the book's name to be changed. :D

I don't think they'd dare try something like that, most people don't realize the true terror Tolkien fans can unleash when provoked:D

This part:
The name of this movie will undoubtedly cause a return of the emotions felt when Elvis died which left so many people in the nation feeling stunned and in a state of shock.
Cracked me up (as well as the 'we can help' bit "Our well wishes are also with those great men and women involved in the Elvis impersonation industry") - Return of the King will cause a return of the emotions felt when Elvis went home....BWAHAHAHAHAHA! What crud
Oh gods, I can just see it now, bunch of Elvis impersonators trekking down from Vegas to the opening of RotK, hoping to see Sauron girating his pelvis :D or Gandalf singing "Return to Sender"

I read that ages ago!
I had a Film magazine and it's main feutre was TTT and there was a section about protests over it and ROTK.
I couldn't believe it! I thought it was a joke too at first!
It's amazing how serious and emotional people can get over things, there's nothing wrong with it but.....it's a book and a film! They can't exacly change it and more people would protest over the book changing wouldn't they! I know i would ! lol
:D :D :D

I think it's a hoax. :D If I look at their FAQ's I can't imagine they're NOT a hoax. Either way, it's darn funny!
Don't you think that renaming the movie would tarnish JRR Tolkien's works of art?
No, we do not believe this. Many of our members are actually fans of JRR Tolkien's books, and although they haven't actually read them we think that if Peter Jackson stepped in to rename the movie, it would increase, not decrease, the good things that JRR Tolkien's works have done.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. That isn't even funny. That's just kind of sad, and really really dumb...

As an Elvis fan myself, it greatly distresses me to find out that the so called movie The Return of the King is NOT about the return of The King (aka Elvis Aaron Presley), but some elf-loving, sword-wielding guy who doesn't even want to be king in the first place and washes his hair but once a month (if that). :)
So we've had protests over The Two Towers and now The Return of the King; can anybody tell me if they find The Fellowship of the Ring offensive?

okay that was a little funny. and a lot pathetic. tolkien wrote RoTK before Elvis was popular. (atleast i think he did) so it should be us getting mad at them for mocking araogrn by callign elvis 'the king'.
I have nothing against elvis, aside from his house was really boring to walk through last summer... but that site was really pathetic.

Two words: ha ha
Tolkien named his books way before Elvis was even born. It's stupid to even think of the idea!

Quite amusing, and blatantly a wind-up.
The site it's parodying WAS damn annoying though - the Two Towers crap.
Pitiful what people spend time doing really, thinking they are doing something of overall worth.
Anyway, thumbs up to Elvis - the straight-cut american!
Saw some documentary on him the other day which featured all his subliminal and not so hidden rude messages in his songs. Rather funny, and makes me look (listen?) on him with a new eye (ear??).

i think Evlis would be ashamed of people making such a big deal about a movie if he were alive, either that, or he would laugh his head off cause he caused so much comotion.

That's GOT to be fake, and even if it isn't, I don't think PJ would change the name. It's just stupid!

Just some corrections: Elvis was born in 1935...way before the Lord of the Rings was written. And I'm pretty sure Elvis was popular when Tolkien wrote the LOTR. So it's possible...
Just joking! I doubt Tolkien would have liked Elvis' music anyway. :)

Sigh... apparently nobody reads the thread before they post.
As I already pointed out, that site is a direct parody of the website that was protesting The Two Towers (because of 9/11), right down to the exact same layout. It's just that they substituted Elvis content instead. The whole point of the site is to make fun of those protestors!
I can't believe some of you even suspect that it's serious!
Gerbil

Personally I reckon they should have changed the name of the first film, because my fellows and I recently all watched the film 'The Ring' together.
I hate PJ.

They should have changed the names of all of them, because LOTR they ain't. :p

"We believe that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema's actions are in fact hate speech. The movie is intentionally being named The Two Towers in order to capitalize on the tragedy of September 11. Clearly, you cannot deny the fact that this falls under hate speech. We believe that if they will not willingly change the name, the government should step in to stop the movie's production or to force a name change."
Ye gods....how can such idiocy be? :(
Although I must say, probably some of these people lost people in the Tragedy. In such a case, I wouldn't judge them for being oversensitive.
Elf Girl
06-24-2003, 09:36 AM
But still, they ought to understand that calling the movie what the book was called is not 'hate speech'.
But then, I didn't lose anyone, even my best friend's mother the flight attendent who usually flies on Tuesdays, so what can I say?
