National Hobbit Day!! :) :p   :rollin: :D

I've found a website of bizarre American National Holidays, and apparently September 22nd is National Hobbit Day. I'm encouraging everyone to celebrate it, even if you don't actually live in America.

Isn't the 22nd Bilbo's and Frodo's birthday?

Yes it is! I'm looking forward to it!

Where is that website?

The site is library.thinkquest.org/2886/INDEX.HTM (http://library.thinkquest.org/2886/INDEX.HTM)

I think it has a holiday for every day of the year. Some days even have two or three holidays.

Yay! http://www.earlyng.homestead.com/files/frodis.gif

The gif lacks the transparent areas but somehow I thought it suited the occasion.

Yay :) .

And even more importantly (;) ), Entmoot turns One Year Old on September 18th! Hehe, we should have a weeklong party :p

I couldn't find these guys on the web anywhere!

***
Organization: The American Tolkien Society (P.O. Box 373, Highland, MI 48357-0373, USA). Information from Paul Ritz, P.O. Box 901, Clearwater, FL 34617, USA (Phone (813) 585-0985).

Activities: The ATS is an educational organization which will try to answer questions or refer the questioner to the appropriate person(s). They provide materials for Hobbit Day (22 September) and Tolkien Month (September) and produce annual lists of Tolkien In-Print Items and Tolkien Organizations. The ATS organizes the Shire Messenger Service which provides free copies of Tolkien's works to former Iron Curtain areas.

I have not attempted to contact Mr. Ritz to check into it further. If it is still on the books, there ought to be a hoopla every year in each major city. Seems to me New Line would want to get something like that going...

National Hobbit Day? Well, as long as it doesn't become a Hallmark Holiday, it's fine with me. :)

Actually, its a pretty cool idea, IMO. Hobbits deserve a national holiday. And it being on the birthday of two of the most famous hobbits is the perfect time for it.

Hobbit day? Entmoot a year old? we do need to have a weeklong party. maybe now we can storm a castle as people have suggested for other less-major events. or just pour Rogaine on our toes.

Has anybody got something more on National Hobbit Day in America?

I did a couple of Alta Vista searches and came up with the above information and a lot of calendar sites that simply name it. There must be a Federal Registry somewhere, an official Proclamation...

Well, I say that on this auspicious occasion, we need to have a Party. With fireworks. And it had better snow food and rain drink.

wouldn't it be a great coincidence if there were exactly 144 active Entmooters around for this Party?

Is this Sept. 22 or Sept. 12 as it really is now?

It's much like Christmas. The exact day isn't important.

It's the thought that counts! :D

Eveyone spread the word, maybe they can have an annual Hobbit Day Feast at the White House or something if it becomes popular enough :)

NOTE: THIS IS A DUPLICATE OF A POST I SHOULD HAVE POSTED HERE, BUT STARTED A TOPIC IN THE LOTR BOOKS FORUM INSTEAD!
================================================== ==========

I have been booked for 5:30 Central (Daylight) Time on the Shane McBryde show on AM 710 WNTM-Mobile to talk about NATIONAL HOBBIT DAY!

You MAY be able to listen in...

www.broadcast.com/radio/talk/wntm/ (http://www.broadcast.com/radio/talk/wntm/)

I (and another guy who does commercials for the station and who also reads at Barnes & Noble) will get a few minutes to talk about reading at the bookstore.

Of course, we will also discuss Hobbits, and my ongoing reading of THE HOBBIT at the store! I'll bring the book and read a little bit of it, I'm sure!

As many of you know in the United States, September 22, Bilbo & Frodo's Birthday, is officially Hobbit Day!

I have found precious little on the internet about it, however! If any of you have some information about when Hobbit Day was made official, etc. please let me know FAST!

Check out my Barebones Website for the pictures of my observance of National Hobbit Day USA!

Let me see if I can make this thing display an image or two...
