I thought I'd start this, seeing as how it's appropriate to the thread! I'm a freeform writer, what'er you?

Dude, HTML doesn't work. :D

Here's just the text bit for mine, turns out I've already taken this test...

You are a descriptive writer. An avid reader of Robert Frost, perhaps, you LOVE to use flowery words and use the paper and pen as your canvas and paintbrush. You prefer to paint a mental image rather than simply toy around with people's minds. A very inspired person, you love to be in nature and usually are a very outdoorsy type of person. A writer with a natural green thumb, perhaps?

-ahem- right...

Was I the only one that caught you copying and pasting the entire bit? ;)

I'm a Dark Writer.

You are a dark writer. A fierce and loyal follower of Poe and the other gothic authors, you LOVE to instill a sense of revulsion and somewhat fear in your readers. You love to poke their brains with logic dealing with the darker side of the human mind and character. Truly surprising and a true individual, you'll do ANYTHING to create a scene. :)

Loyal follower of Poe. Love movies about Dracula, and desperately want to read the book. But the rest isn't really true...:p

Was the Romantic picture from Escaflowne?

Dude, you know your anime. :D

Anyway, I consider my second chapter to the Canayen bit 'dark'... Someone said that I scared the crap outta them with that scene. Ah well, it was more descriptive than dark, I suppose. :D

Gwaimir Windgem
04-27-2003, 06:57 PM
Not really. :p Haven't seen too much. The Escaflowne movie, most of the Escaflowne series (WAY better than the movie), Vampire Hunter D, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (the sequel actually better than the original! ) Tekken (not too good), Fist of the North Star (*nods vigourously* that was a movie, yes indeed;) Can't deny that it was a movie:rolleyes: ), and a few others.

BTW, both VHD and VHD:B ruled! :D

I have a feeling you'd like the anime 'Blood the Vampire'. Or maybe the videogame 'Bloodrayne'.

Gwaimir Windgem

I presume you mean Blood the Last Vampire? I saw that, and meant to list it, but you know how it is with the halwitted...

Yah yah yah, that one. :D

See? You should get the Entmoot Award for Most Halfwitted.

Oh, so it still gives me a result if I leave an entire section blank? I'll try that...

Yes, exactly my problem. None of them fitted me, so I just had to choose the ones that came closest. And the ones that came closest definitely weren't me at all.

But you know what? The thing basically just tells you what you say. There are very few boxes that you can click, and it just says what you selected right back to you at the end.

Exactly. I just ended up looking at all possible results, and decided that Narrative and Freeform fit me best... or least, not as poorly as everything else.

That quiz was dumb! ;) Only three questions, and the last one was really stupid! Anyway, I think we could describe our writing style without using the quiz!? I am descriptive. Not with a bunch of "visual"adjectives, but verbal attempts to describe feelings, or a state of mind. The words flow like water, then I spend several days subtracting and refining. (The computer is so wonderful for this!) Less is so much more, and concentration is potent! (for me) I like to talk "to" the reader. Of course, I am strictly non-fiction, but I suppose you would have the same style no matter what? :)

*scratches head* Yea, I guess it was kinda dumb, but I thought it matched me perfectly! I guess...well...erm...ok, just don't hurt me! I just like taking quizes 'cause it's fun to see wether or not they are right. And keep in mind that when I started this thread I was also REALLY bored...*smiles apologetically at 'Mooters*

Actually, the result that I got on the quiz didn't match what kind of writer I say I am. I got narrative writer, and most of the statements are false.

"Usually a writer of stories rather than poetry,"
Much of my work is poetry! I tend to find poetry easier than prose -- in poetry, the words "flow" from my mind to the paper in a way they never do with stories. I have gotten several poems published.

"you grew up reading
Shakespeare's less popular and heard of plays--like King Lear or the Henry series."
Not accurate; I've never read either. My favorite Shakespeare play is "The Tempest," and my favorite tragedy is "Julius Caesar."

"Your writing
contains a certain order and organization--be it chronological or otherwise."
Can't argue with that one.

"If you are to write poetry, it has to convey a logical (or perhaps unreal) story with some sort of order behind it."
My poems could only VERY rarely be described as having any real order to them!

Odd, most of the other authors here seemed to agree with the way the test described them. I think Freeform would fit me better, and possibly a bit of Classical, in the case of my poems.

And Faith, I agree that it's fun to see how accurate the quizzes are. :D

Lief Erikson
04-28-2003, 01:25 AM
It got me dead wrong :). But then, I answered the questions with only partial truth, because they didn't give any of the right options. They're severely limited by having so few options.

However, I don't think that particular quizz was extremely well done (Gets a shield to protect himself from getting pelted by pieces of paper).

*Steals sheild to protect herself from angry 'mooters* I think they are more on your side than mine right now Lief!

No one's gonna hurt you, Fred, we realize you couldn't help yourself;) :D

No really though, I got Narrative and it only slightly describes me. I write lots of poetry, write my stories out of order, and while I like Shakespeare, I'm more a fan of sci-fi, fantasy genre and historical fiction.

I'd call me a "free" writer. Everything I write I write just out of my mind without following any rules. I just let it flow.

I figure I'd post my actual writing style here because I just finished up a writing evaluation portfolio for English class tonight and am still seething analytical thought. I'll take the quiz after I write this so I don't mess up my thinking.

I usually write very objectively, no matter what the topic. I hate introducing my own feelings, even if it happens to be something like an opinion essay. I have always felt that I should remain an enigma to the writer unless they had the patience to look closely enough at several pieces of my writing to pick up not only a common literary technique but also a common attitude. Another thing I tend to do is contradict myself a lot. Contrary to what you might think, contradictions help strengthen my writing. I take pleasure in the fact that I can systematically set up arguments against my own theory and knock them down before the reader has a chance to set up his/her own arguments. I like my writing to have no open ends whatsoever.

Pretty terrible quiz with only three questions. Still I guess that is the most accurate it could have come.

This says I am a desciptive writer. I suppose some of its true.
I'd say I'm somewhere in between a narritive and descriptive writer though.

Lalaith wrote: I'd call me a "free" writer. Everything I write I write just out of my mind without following any rules. I just let it flow. Right on Lalaith! I myself have written in a few different styles, but the basic form is a free flow of words, then I go back and 'clean up' the spelling and grammer to a certain extent.

I guess the purpose of this thread was to take a quiz to see what 'style of writing' one has.... Bah.

I hate rules and if I should ever be forced to write with rules in my mind, I'll probably stop writing.

I'm a dark writer. Thats kinda wierd cuz my stories are about love, not darkness.

I haven't really written enough to have a 'style'. I'm in the middle of writing, of all things, a Star Trek book (which as yet has no name), and I'm beginning a fantasy . . . something. I'm basically working on the world itself right now. I've started various other books, but got writer's block soon after I started. I mean, I know where I want to go with them, but I have a hard time getting there. I like writing poetry, too.

I'm a descriptive writer, it says--

Which is EXTREMELY true! I love to write descriptions; I'm writing a story right now where I have about three paragraphs in a row, that are FULL of description, about this, and about that, mostly about the atmosphere and the objects (people, animals, etc..) in it... But that's okay, for me. I like to be descriptive!

Hm... I don't know what my style is. Amateur perhaps? :D

I think I'm a fantasy writer who can write description and battles, but not romances, suspense, or mystery, and struggles with character development.

As far as a "style" goes, I think each person has their own comfort level and will write in a way that comes from their own perspective. I've looked back at things I wrote years ago and have found that my way of saying things has changed very little. I'm by no means a "descriptive" writer. I feel that my particular strength is writing dialogue (I've been told this, too). I tend to move the story along through exchanges between characters, rather than by describing the scene. I am very comfortable with this. I enjoy listening to people talk and like to pick up the cadences of speech. I've been told that this is very difficult, but I don't find it to be.

More power to you descriptive writers out there! I can't do that nearly as well as I'd like!

Took the quiz thing. Weird. Said I am a free-form writer and that free-style poems are what the doctor ordered. Insane! I do Tennyson and Poe and people like that. Bad test, I think. Should ahve more questions anyway. Or more answers.;)

You are a freeform writer. Individualistic with a sense for the different and challenging, Walt Whitman and his poetry lacking meter and rhyme is just what the doctor ordered. You're quick to write something that the rest of the world doesn't accept as poetry, quick to separate yourself from the average joe. An author with a true sense of self, you have confidence in your abilities and aren't afraid to show it. :) GO YOU!

Well, sorta.... I would say that I'm freeform, but confidence? Peh!

Nurvingiel

I got freeform writer too, but after reading all the possible answers, I'd say I'm more close to being a narrative writer. (The questions didn't really contain an option that I actually do. Oh well.)

That's a wierd quiz firstly, but I think I would point myself toward a ridiculously descriptive narrator because I have one chapter that happens in about oh a few hours thats sixteen pages long.

I'm a Dark Writer. That fits about 95% of my work. :)

i am not aware that i have a writing style.
the poems i write pour out from my brain,
and the songs i write do the same
stories/novels i have written take many years to finish
and are about everything. Love, loss, death, life, rebirth anew
light/dark, i honestly write about anything

my muscial compositional writing, however, is Baropque, Classical and Romantic, with a bit of heavy-metal and goth thrown in.
BTW, what is this 'quiz' u all keep referring to?

EDIT: OK, found quiz, this is what it says about me:

You are a descriptive writer. An avid reader of Robert Frost, perhaps, you LOVE to use flowery words and use the paper and pen as your canvas and paintbrush. You prefer to paint a mental image rather than simply toy around with people's minds. A very inspired person, you love to be in nature and usually are a very outdoorsy type of person. I guess I seem to lean toward being a dark writer as well. In reviewing all I've written, they tend to deal with loss. :)
