Has anyone else heard this tape? I just got a recording of several passages from the Hobbit, LOTR, Silmarillion, etc., actually recorded by Tolkien!! It's sooo cool! I've only heard The Hobbit as yet. The passage for Hobbit it Riddles in the Dark, and it sounds just like my mental Gollum-voice. Sort of imagine Yoda with a slight Scottish accent. Anyway, it's a really neat recording!

Is this one of the Caedmon set?
I have one of those with J.R.R.T reading from the LOTR. Unfortunately it's rather messed up and I've forgotten what he reads on it.

I would like to hear this, perhaps someone has uploaded it to the internet. In addition, do you know of any recordings of the entire books on the internet?

I found a tape at the library with him reading from LOTR, mostly passages with Pippin, Merry and the Ents. It was a real treat :D

4 selections of recordings are available at the website I presented above where they are read by Tolkien himself.
Downloadable in 3 different formats.
