First of all, this is not meant to be a fangirl-thread, although I am one. :D
I want to discuss other people's opinions about this actor.
Do you think he is lovely and talented (like I do) or do you think that he lacks talent and just sucks (as some others might say).
Please let me know your opinions.

I think he has the potential to be a good actor, but I feel that AOTC as a vehicle for him didn't work because he was poorly directed in some of the more emotional scenes, and had some pretty shoddy script writing.

i agree with BoP. he did not have any emotion but i know he is a dedicated actor. so he could probably do better

Has anyone of you seen "Life as a House"? I thought he acted very well in it.

I think he shot it short before Star Wars. It's really good. In our cinemas (in Austria) it was after Star Wars but I guess it was in America earlier.

i think he had a good look and did a good job of playing a stroppy teenager but as wityh all the perquals directed by george (when will he learn hes not a good director) he was let down by a crap script and bad direction

Was there another director for Episode IV - VI?

He said PREquels. And yes.

he did not direct either the nempire strikes back or return of the jedi which are the two best films looking back star wars was more of a shock of how cool the effects were and the visulisation. Lucas strength allways concept and design and prodution rather than direction (mind you even the production and design have gone down like watching a bloody cartoon)
the prequals make me quite mad how did he manage to balls them up?

I don't understand the word prequel. Are these episode 4-6 or episode 1-3? I really have no clue, sorry.

Ah, okay. The prequels are episodes 1-3. The sequels are episodes 4-6. George didn't direct 5 & 6.

He didn't? Never knew that...was it Spielberg?
A prequel is something that comes before the original. :)

I thought George Lucas directed Episode 4 very well. Episode 1 wasn't so good, in my opinion, and that's primarily because we didn't have as spicy of characters in it. In Episode 2, the characters became more interesting, to me. I liked Obi Wan a lot, and of course Palpatine was perfect, just as he was in Episode 1 :D. I love seeing his behind the scenes plotting.
I wrote an essay on the romance between Anakin and Padmé, in defense of it. I really liked Anakin's acting and his portrayal of his character. To me he was perfect, though I agree that his lines weren't so good as those that the characters of the original trilogy had. I liked Padmé too, most especially because the resemblance became plainly visible between her and Leia. The similarities between parents and children were so neat and well placed that I greatly enjoyed them. That was one of the primary things that struck me immediately as I watched that film.
I enjoyed Episode 2 a lot :).

I agree with you Lief, I thought he did a fine job with A New Hope, and it's still one of my favourites (Empire Strikes Back being my favourite.)
Gwaimir: ESB was directed by Irvin Kershner (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0080684) and ROTJ was directed by Richard Marquand (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0086190).

It's a strange world we live in, where new films are called prequels and old ones are called sequels. It should be the other way round.
I had a discussion with a friend yesterday where I stated that the 3rd Highlander film was a sequel to the 2nd Highlander film, even though the plot in the 3rd film is set before the 2nd one.

It was not his looks that attracted me. I don't know.

maybe it was his pathetic acting :)

He is a good actor.
It's strange, but mostly I find people attractive if they are likeable. It isn't the look.

Does that mean that you will see the end anyway, no matter how bad, or that you won't see the end of the new trilogy.

I've been wondering if there was a thread around here about him lately. I recently bought the DVD for AotC and haven't watched it all the way through yet. When I saw it in theaters, I didn't mind his acting. But in the parts I've watched since I bought it, I'm not too impressed with his acting. It just seems forced. Maybe I'll change my mind once I see it all the way through again.

Maybe I should watch the movie with focusing on his acting skills.

Yep. I often do.
That's why I often don't care when the movie is a little bit stupid (if it is really stupid I recognize and hate it).

(I've said it before, and I'll say it again...) I don't have a problem with his acting. I think he's got great potential - it's just that this movie didn't relay it particularly well. Plus, he is pretty easy on the eye.

So do you pay attention to the plot?

Of course I do pay attention to the plot. Actors are just a reason to watch a movie, they don't make the whole movie.
I watched Star Wars again, watched his acting and I couldn't find any mistake.

You just said you pay attention to the actors. do you pay more attention to the actors or the plot?

Hmm, let me think.
I watch movies because of actors, but I pay attention to the plot. But I also said that when I am watching Episode II again, I'll focus my attention on the acting skills of the actors.
Anyway, to answer your question. Usually I really pay attention to the plot.
But sometimes a movie is crap, but I don't want to stop watching it, and then I will spend far more attention on the actors, just because the plot is anoying me.
It is the other way round, when I can't stand one of the actors.
But, yes, usually more the plot.

I mean, if it is really CRAP, absolutely stupid, then I don't watch it. But to a certain degree I can watch it and think: Thank God there are good movies too.
