Silmarillion chapter re-assignments

Chapter 5- Of Eldamar and the Princes of the Eldalië: was due to be posted and to begin discussion today, but the person that this chapter was assigned to has not been to the board for some time. Therefore, in order for the discussion to continue, I have decided to post this thread, if anyone would be interested in taking this chapter.

Also, if for any reason, any of you that have volunteered to do one of the chapters are unable to do so, please post here ASAP, so that another volunteer can take the assignment, and discussion can move along.

I understand that this project extends far into the future, and things can happen, but please if possible say something so that we can find a replacement. Thank you all for making the project a successful one so far.:)

*Gulp* Looks like no one else has volunteered, so in the interest of keeping this great project going, I am going to do the intro for this ch. I will do the best I can with what I have, and I count on everyone adding their knowledge to the discussion, as you always do anyway, to help in covering all the bases. I plan to work it all out tonight and tomorrow, and I will post my intro stuff tomorrow night, if that's okay. Just let me know if it's not. Also, should I just make a thread then and stick it at the top, SGH?

What an angel you are. This is more than acceptable, and since you are a super mod, by all means, don't wait around for me to stick it. Although I am pretty quick about it since it is one of my passions.:D You go for it though.

One note- I would like to make it clear for all members that have taken an assignment. The dates for these chapters are set. Unless there is a lengthy amount of time in finding a new volunteer to do it, all chapters will stay on schedule as planned. Unfortunately as in this case, some days will be taken away from a chapter if it is delayed. Remember that it can always be brought back in discussion though. It will just not be a sticky

I don't know if Dunadan will show up, but he missed his date. Go ahead and take a couple days to do your research and I will put your name in replacement of Dunadan's on the assignment thread. In the meantime chapter 5 can continue, since it was posted late for the same reasons.

Chapter 8- Intro by zavron
Chapter 11- Intro by- Vortuniel

There may be others that come along. The only reason I list these is because the people that have volunteered to do them, have not been on the board or posted for a long time.

Hello, I am still here and definitly still wanting to do the intro on Chapter 11, I started making notes just after christmas but was halted in my efforts by my baby brother 'alf inchin' (pinching for those not familiar with the term) my copy of the Sil. I shouldn't complain really as I have been trying to convince him to bite the bullet and give it a go for a while now, I have my best discussions on the Hobbit and LOTR with him and wanted to extend the chats to include the Sil. I am very proud of the fact that I introduced him to this wonderful world.
Anyway back on subject, he is air-mailing me my book back asap (he is still living in the UK) and I shall resume my note making upon its return. Please don't take my lack of posts as a lack of interest! The truth is I only have internet access at work and it has been very busy of late. I manage to get on and take a peak at the moot every now and then to keep up but I haven't had the time to contribute. I am however very aware of all that is occuring in this happy community. I will endevour to show my face (figuratively speaking of course) more often.:D

I just worried about those that hadn't been to the forum for so long, maybe missing their assignment date. We have already had to re-assign two chapters, and I am pretty sure that chapter 8 will be re-assigned, unless Zavron turns up.

Well, Vortûriel has not as of yet posted her chapter which was due today. We will wait at least today to see if she does. I can only think that something has come up for her, because she was very eager to do this.

If it is not posted by tomorrow morning, we will need a volunteer to keep the project moving.

I have decided that I must give up one of my chapter assignments. Although neither one is due until December or so, I do not have the time to do the research for both. I had previously researched the chapter of Beren and Luthien, and foolishly did so in a note book instead of on the computer. I lost the notebook, and I just do not have the time to do it all over again.

I think this is one of the most important chapters in the book, and would like someone to take it that can do it justice.

I still hope to do "Of The Coming Of Men Into The West" and present it. But, the chapter of Beren and Luthien would take much time again since it is refered to in just about every HoMe book there is.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I know there must be someone out there that would love to do this chapter. Please post here, and let me know.:)

I don't think I'll be able to do Beren & Luthien. I'll be very bussy when its time comes, but since we're late with chapter 12 "Of Men" and Inderjit hasn't been around in some weeks, I've begun working on it. I'm almost done with it so I'll post it in some hours if you have no problem.

Book of Lost Tales I: The Flight of the Noldoli.
The Shaping of Middle-Earth: Sketch, The Earliest Annals of Beleriand and the Quenta.
The Lost Road and Other Writtings: Quenta Silmarillion, Later Annals of Beleriand.

Well, I might consider letting him have my other chapter. I have it about half finished, but not sure when I get to it again. God, I hate myself. However (here I may be sounding a bit dim), I'm not exactly sure of what is required.

You list any other books that contain information about the events or people in the chapter, such as info from any of the Histories of Middle-earth. You don't have to post the info from the HoMe, but just list the books that it can be found in. Maps and pics are nice too. Some have posted links to galleries. It isn't required to list all the additional readings, maps, or pics but it's nice if you can do it. We realize that not everyone has access to the HoMe series.Then you raise your discussion points for the chapter, and then, the discussion begins.

That's pretty much it.

I would say at this point, the safe thing to do about chapter 21, would be to re-assign it since Renille hasn't been around for some time. If she shows up before the due date fine, but in light of her absence, I would say a re-assignment is best.

So, are there any takers for the Túrin Turambar-chapter? If there are no volunteers, I'll take on the chapter but only if no one else wants to. This is your chance people! :)

I'll do it, but what exactly do I have to do? Do I have to summarize it and hit the main points, then add discussion points, or what? I am relatively new to this little forum, and that's a helluva chapter, but if I get a little guidance, I can manage. Oh, and a time and date of dueness.

Beor, if you take a look at the intros to the previous chapters, you'll get the idea of what you need to do. You will see that people have done the intros in different ways. Discussion points are useful to get us started. And you need to put up references to the additional readings, which usually means parts of HoME and/or UT. I can do that part for you if you want (assuming you don't have any HoME books where you are?).

Edit: Due date is March 3.

Well, I would like to do it, and I have HOME 1-4, UT, and the Sil, but I doubt I will get it done by the 3rd. We have a lot of stuff coming up that i cant really talk about (OPSEC), so if I do it, it will probably be late.

I'll still do it, if you want, but I suggest having someone else do it, since it is a long chapter with a lot of information, and I really dont have the time to do it right. I know that Maedhros wants to do Ch 22, so I'll do the next one (Ch 23), if it isnt already assigned.

I will still do it, but I wont have it done by the 3rd. I suggest that someone else does it. Sorry to re-nig, but I really dont have the time to do it in the next six days. I feel bad, and like I said, I will still give it my best if yall still want me to.
