In the books, while Aragorn was being raised in Rivendell by Elrond, he was named Estel which is elvish for hope.
When Arwen says to Elrond 'There is still hope', did anyone notice the connection and thinks that it was deliberate (meaning that she knows Aragorn is still there and alive) or purely coincidental?

hey! welcome to Entmoot!:)

i felt the connection, but i'm not sure if it was deliberated. perhaps it was derived from some dialogues of The story of Aragorn & Arwen. i'm not sure now, but i believe that there is much talking about "hope" there.

That's a neat connection you made! I'd never thought of that before.:)

Maybe that was one of those things they stuck in there so people who have read the books could go "Hey! Thats neat!"
And it is, becuse as long as there is Estel (Aragorn) there is estel (hope) thats why his name was what it was.

That is a great point. I've never thought of that either and I really like it too! Makes a lot of sense and opens up other avenues as well :D Welcome!

What about in FOTR in lothlorian when Borimer tells Aragorn that the "Lady: had told him in his mind that there was still "hope" for Gondor but he didn't see it?
