Which of these two characters - mother and daughter - do you think is the stronger one?

Definitely Leia. But holding Padme's youth (in the first and second ep:s) against her wouldn't be sporting I guess.

Leia, almost certainly. I say almost because they both have true kick-@$$ ability. ;) Man, it's wierd thinking of them as mother and daughter! I nver really thought about it, I guess. *shrugs* Later.....

I noticed the resemblence immediately- first time I saw the movie. That was one of the things I loved most about Episode 2. Also there is a resemblence in character between Anakin and Luke. They have some of the same basic qualities, only as they grew up, they transformed in different ways. The starters are there for both of them, from the beginning. Also Luke was humble because of the way he grew up- something Anakin was totally different from him in.

I wrote an essay which is a defense for Anakin and Padmé's relationship, I just haven't posted it here because of fear that someone might steal it and use it :D. But I really didn't say what the similarities were in that post, I just asserted that they existed. I'm glad you can see them now, though :).

It's rather fun that in Empire Strikes Back, even Yoda recognizes the similarity between Luke and his father. "Like his father," he muttered, if you recall (Which I'm sure you do ;)).

Another resemblance between Anakin and Luke: They war far to old to start becoming a Jedi.

As this Anakin/Luke things is off-topic, I wonder if we shouldn't start a Anakin/Luke thread. Or is there already one?

Lief Erikson

Since Padme and Leia, and Anakin and Luke and Han Solo all figure into the equation, maybe we should make a thread that includes discussion and comparison between all these characters.

Oh, please don't mention Han Solo! I never liked him. I kinda always wanted Luke and Leia to be together (maybe that's why I also like Nienor and Túrin).

o.O

Okaaaay... ;)

Personally, I must say I disagree with you. Luke and Leia do fit well together, but they can do that fine and be brother and sister.

P. S. I do like your name. If I ever have a daughter, I'd love to name her that. :D

I don't understand it either. My mind oft goes strange ways. I guess it's because of his arrogance in the beginning - when he meets Leia and she tells him that she loves him and he says "I know". Horrible.

Yeah, that's the problem with it. Like I said, it's just like between Nienor and Turin, everybody thinks they fit together, but everybody also knows that it isn't possible.
P. S. I do like your name. If I ever have a daughter, I'd love to name her that.
Guess why I chose this name? When I'm gonna have a daughter in future, I'll name her Lalaith.

Well, to stay on the subject, I think that Leia is stronger than Padme. In fact I believe all of the main characters from episode 4 to 6 are stronger than those from episode 1 to 3 (maybe with the exception of Yoda, his younger self was probably more vigorous than his older self :D ).

Hmm, yeah, what can I say? But I like Aragorn better than Han Solo.

It wouldn't be allowed in Austria. You have to pick "legal" names.

Well, to stay on the subject, I think that Leia is stronger than Padme.
But they were both good fighters. (I know that Padme is, and I guess that Leia was, too)

Han Solo is my favorite character in SW.:p
My fave SW books are "The Han Solo Trilogy"
by A.C. Crispin. A recomended read for everyone but you, Lalaith!
And Aragorn is even cooler! *points at sig*

Lalaith

There are actually SW books? I know one and this is "Attac of the Clones". I saw it in the book store and read the last page. I didn't intend to, but it just happend. And ha, it was before I saw the movie. So I knew that they would get married. That spoilt the movie.

Yeah, but how can you believe that he doesn't love her back? He doesn't have to say the words to mean it: and it's very clear from the expression on his face that he DOES love her. I'm sorry, but that's one of my favourite scenes, and I'm glad that they didn't screw it up by making it soppy. And it was in character for him to saying "I know" rather than "I love you."

Okay ive seen this "I hate han solo" thing to much. Hmphh. There are reasons for han bieng so, ahem "macho", 1. Him and chewie have been in some tight spots( read:the han solo adventures, by brian daley) and han likes to make smart remarks to himself feel better. Theres more i can say...but im already off the subject...as for the original question: LEIA. Padme's really "fake".

I think Leia is the stronger one. She was born into the Rebellion to one of its leaders. Padme is OK, but she doesn't have that fire that Leia has. She's too soft spoken. And Han Solo is the ultimate "space cowboy." :)

Anglorfin
07-29-2003, 12:28 AM
Leia by far. She's had to deal with more than Padme. Padme has only known conflict for a short while, Leia basically all her life. Plus Leia has a little the Force inside her. She has to be strong to learn how to control it someday.

Leia is not so great. Never saw the second or third of the new movies (first was awful), but Amidala has a cool first name, Padme. So I'll vote for her. Not fond of her hair or makeup though.

HOBBIT

What is wrong with Natalie Portman? I like Padme a lot. I also like Leia. But Padme seems to be very outnumbered in this topic so I will vote for her.

And Episode one was a GOOD movie. In comparison with the original trilogy, I guess you can debate that it doesn't compare, um ok.

But compare it to movies coming out now. The year episode one came out, it was one of the best movies that year - it still is a very good movie.

Don't be such whiny babies. Do you think it gives you power to bitch and complain about things? Does it make you feel better to put down perfectly good things?

What exactly was so wrong with it? The movie was fine and Jar-Jar was fine too.

Episode two was also a really good movie - dragged a little but the second half (YODA WITH LIGHTSABER HELL YEAH) was well worth it. See all 1-3 and THEN make your judgements - episode three has the potential to be amazing.

"the first one was awful" well I think that your OPINION IS AWFUL. :p

try seeing some of the other recent movies that have come out these past years - that will really give you some good awful flicks.

Episode 1 and 2 by no means rank with those.

I like Leia better. She's not as stupid as Padme (please forgive the word 'stupid'- 'tis my opinion). I mean, Padme saw what Anakin's anger could do to him, how rebellious he was, and his juvenile ideas about how the government should work. And yet she marries him anyway! Duh.
Leia is smarter. She can hold her own in a blaster-fight, and her hairdos are much more practical. She's important to her cause, but she doesn't have to get her way all the time just because she is.

What do you mean, how can someone not like Natalie Portman? There are gazillions of people on here and you don't expect different opinions to come flying at you? I don't really like her either, to tell you the truth. And to tell another truth, I absolutely despise Padme. Why? Because she is cheap, like hectorberlioz said. She definitely (in my opinion) wouldn't stand a chance against leia. :) Here are a few reasons:

1. Where Leia is in control..Padme is a bossy little brat. She is ACTING. You can see it. You are not supposed to be able to see acting.

2. Leia doesn't act like an idiot around her 'crush' then tell him " No! We musn't! I have so much self control..blah blah blah.." So contradicting! No wonder Anakin has problems!

3. Ok...and the fact that she still calls him Ani really...ugh!

Sorry if I go a bit far on this subject....Ntalie Portman is an ok actress. I've never seen a good movie with her in it, though. And I don't count the starwars prequels as good movies right now. I am in a very bad mood.

Late reply. Oh-oh.
Well.

I would count SW to the better movies these days. I mean if you think of the background story.
Maybe the execution of the story wasn't always the best, but nowadays you can barely see a good story in most of the movies.
