Ok, this came to me and made me really exited to start this at once.
This rpg is about the war in the eyes of the horses of the warriors. It can be any horse or pony that came during the war. We play the horses and say what the war was like through their parts played to help. Most of the horses are going to be from Rohan and Rivendell. Not many from Rivendell though. I know some of you will want to play a warrior but only one or two. I want to have the rpg based manly on the horses.;)
my character:
name: Cor
sex: female
owner:(use to be the horse of Denether but ran away because of fear) rider of Rohan: (not yet decided)
coat:grey with dark grey main and tail. brown eyes.
bio: was once the war horse of Denether but escapt when was lame for a while. Denether wanted to use me for hard labor but I escapt and traveled around searching for freedom.

Rider: someone from Rohan -- haven't decided
Color: dark bay
Bio: A very intelligent horse, Anmara is one of the swiftest in Rohan. She was born in Rohan, and has lived there all her life.
Are we using first person or third? :)

Glad to have you here. Very glad indeed.
ic: All I heard was a cry then a man running a short ditance before giving up his chase after me. I had not liked my master to much and was used in one war since he had me. I lunged for the trees and grass which my old home lacked. I ran free in the morning sun feeling the breeze against my face and my main flowing freely in the wind. No armour covered me now nor any decorations of burdon(including my master) no human on my back just the sun which I had allowed a free ride any time it wished. My tossed my head back and whinnied nice and loud telling Denether that I had won and he could not enslve me because of my fault. My leg still ached alittle and dry blood stained my gray fur. Yet this did not oppress me nor my happiness. I ran slower than I usually would but still free.
I made my way to a grassy place and started to roll in the fresh dewy grass then trotted off agin making my way to a place that I could find peace at last. I hoped not to run into Boromir the calf of my master. For he like his father wished to tame me for ware.

in: I galloped over to Cor. I whinnied and rolled around on the sweet grass. I cocked my head at the blood stained on her coat. I was muscular, though I had never been used in war, I looked strong, like any warhorse.

ic: I ran through the fields, joyful at being able to just run; to be free from worry or fear, if only for a time. No, my troubles weren't because of the war, not really. Although I had been in war before, I was young, and hadn't gotten into many truly dangerous situations.
No, my main trouble was with the Herd. At the time, I was a member of the Lightning Storm herd; we were all considered brave horses, if careless. There were sixteen horses in the Herd, ranging in rank from lead mare, all the way down to me -- the lowest-ranking of all the horses in the Lightning Storm herd.
The lead mare had taken a dislike to me when I was a filly, and since that day, the other horses have all picked on me. My mother, when she was alive, could protect me from most of the horses, as long as I stayed near her. She was the second most dominant mare in the Herd, and when I was with her, I could enjoy all the benefits of her status. But she could not protect me from the lead mare.
And now my mother cannot protect me from any of them. Nor do our riders sense the conflicts in the Herd; or if they do, they don't care. So I was leaving. I didn't plan to return; then again, I didn't plan to go away forever, either. I just hadn't decided WHAT I was going to do next.
Then I saw two other horses walking, a mare and a stallion, horses I had never seen before. They were young, like me. The mare had blood on her leg, and walked with a slight limp. I galloped over to them.

ic: It was a sunny, bright day. My master had some thing to do and he needed to ride me to Edoras. As we were galloping through the field, I heard other horses whinning. I wanted to run over to them and see what they were doing. My master wouldn't let me. He made sure that I stayed in the course he wished to take. I figured that as soon as he got to Edoras he would let me run free over the plaines to meet them. Sencing this I quickened my pace. We reached Edoras shortly. I had guessed right. He let me wonder over the field after he had feed me. I gallopoed over were the other horses had stood, hopping that they would still be there. As I was gallopoing over the field I saw the shapes of the horses. I whinneyed a greeting.

ic: I was greeted as soon as I came into the grounds of Rohan. My old friend who I had met as a colt but was separated as soon as we were old enough to use in war.
I nuzzled my old friend and soon we came opon the whole herd who had wanted to join in our happiness. We all rolled around in the cool summer grass and hit the flies with our tails. I was finaaly free from work and hoped to never have another human on my back ever again.
Our small herd was catching attention of all the other horses and another horse who had been let off her rope and ran to us in a greeting of whinneing.
We stared to much on the grass and talk about what was happaning. I told them of my escap and how I hated my master. the other horses agreed of not liking hard labor. I never want a master. i cried out through a mouthful of grass.
We trooted off towards a small brook and drank deep from the clear water then I jumped in and splashed Bucephalus who had just finished his drink.

As Cor and Bucephalus played in the water, I told Wingmane my story. Not that he would understand completely. Stallions don't have ranks quite the same way we mares do. They don't often lead their herds, but no one tries to bully them, either. Wingmane would have learned enough, though, to know what I was talking about.
I explained that, like Cor, I didn't ever want to go back ... though my reasons were very different from hers. I liked my rider well enough, although I'd not yet formed a strong attachment to any human.
Lady of Rohan

ic: As I patiently listened to Anmara's story I grew thirsty. Once she had finished I toke a drink from the brook. I then told her my story. I actually did like my master. He was kind to me and treated me very well. I just didn't like the fact that I had to stay in captivity. The fact that I couldn't run wild when I wanted to and were I wanted to. After I had finished I jumped into the water and started to play with Cor and Bucephalus.

ooc: A wonderful idea Sicirus. I had a similar one, but it was the horses of point of view (starting with Bill the Pony, to the white horse that carried Frodo across the Ford, etc.), and following the story of the Fellowship through a horse's(or pony's) point of view. But it seemed to be a bit repetitive, because it would be retelling that wonderful story in our less than comparable words. This way we can embellish and have our own adventures to tell and our characters to improve and advance!
Bucephalus is an original name, me dear. It's a wonderful name (don't take me wrong), but I'm not sure there's going to be an Alexander the Great in Rohan! I say, have you read any of the Marguerite Henry books? What about the Unicorn Chronicles by Bruce Coville, or Robin McKinnley's The Blue Sword? If any of you have (or need)good suggestions for horse "literature", or any good books at that, be sure to let me know! I have tons of books, and I can never read enough!
By the way, not everyone should have a black or white coat, or we shall have a very dull herd. Besides, grey and white horses tend to get skin diseases more easily than other horses, and black or dark colored horses (while majestic) tend to over heat a tad more easily. And, by the way, are we writing this in the sense that the horses speak with each other and have cooperative and organized discussions, or are we writing in the sense of "mundane earth's" horses with their natural habits and vices? Hope you all understand horse terminology! That makes it much more fun!

Name: Oneska (pronounced ohn-esk-a)
Gender: female
Description: golden touched chestnut. two front socks, a right hind coronet. stripe and star. no white on body. slight dappling on haunches. "pulled"mane, swish tail. trim, clean legs. finely built, delicate hooves, ears and muzzle. Arab build (on a slightly larger scale; big enough to carry an outfitted soldier, but none of that plate armor nonsense). hardy and sensitive to cues. a superior mount.
Bio: A relatively balmy temper, but certain conditions make her irritable. Has a tendancy to be very active, though not flighty whatsoever. Taught as a hill horse (to wear a saddle only and obey voice and body cues) by a young girl in a village west of Edoras. She is fond of her human "herd".

Oneska grimaced in delight, waving her upper lip in ectasy as cool water from a tin bucket sloshed over her whithers and belly. The sun beat down on the dirt-floored court yard of her home stable, and Oneska stood contentedly as the gentle, feather-like touches of the girl's hands removed caked dirt and sweat from her skin.
She plashed her hoof in a puddle by her feet and wagged her head up and down, enjoying the sensation of a straw whisp being rubbed across her rapidly drying coat.
"Gola, Gola, can I brush her?" cried a human foal, toddling rapidly across the yard from the dark door of the human's stable. "You promised..."
The little girl thrust her lip out poutily, threatening a small thundershower if her wishes were not complied with. Golana laughed musically as she reached down for the little girl's hand. She placed the whisp carefully and guided the child's fingers into the right position. She then gently guided the brushy, circular strokes. "Look, how much Ona likes your brushing, Linnet!", Golana said approvingly, stroking Oneska's neck.
Oneska obliged the human foal, sweeping her ears forward and reaching to nuzzle the little girl. Linnet giggled happily and skipped away to watch from a seat on top of a water butt in the corner, not too far away. It is beautiful, Oneska thought, to run with Gentle Hands to far places, to do something that is my greatest pleasure, and then to return to my home barn to be cleaned so carefully and fed so well. How wondrous it is to run like the birds do in the sky. It is joy!

She affectionately turned and nibbled Gentle Hands's sleeve, looking at the girl with mild molasses eyes. Golana laughed softly and returned the look, tenderly wiping the dirt out of Ona's nostrils and eyes with a soft cloth. "Now you are more beautiful than ever," said Golana, rubbing the finely boned face carefully with the cloth."Beautiful girl," she crooned admiringly. Oneska lipped at Golana's cheek, giving her a horse kiss, and Golana threw her head back, laughing, her blond, windswept hair lose to the small breeze that played through the courtyard.
Behind her, a lanky tow headed young man left the rectangle of darkness that led into the human stable and strode briskly toward them. A woman appeared and stood in the doorway, clutching a faded shawl tightly about her shoulders. "Gola..." said the young man.
"Merik," she said, turning and happily leaning against Oneska's side."What is it?"
"I've received a summons; I must go join the forces at Edoras. I have no mount since Gabesk was lamed, and he was old. Mama says that I must take Oneska. She is the only horse we have who will be fit for this kind of work..." Golana's eyes widened in horror. "No! She is mine! You've no claim to her! She only takes a saddle. You cannot ride her with only a saddle, I've seen you; you nearly fall off! Papa gave her to me and---"
"I must be there in two weeks," he interrupted softly, hating to see his sister hurt. He hugged her strongly, endeavoring to explain,"I wish that there was another way, Gola, you must understand. It is only until I get a soldier's mount, and then she will come home to you. Please train her to take a bit and bridle. She will do anything for you; she loves and trusts you. And you can train her far better than I. I will try as hard as I can to get another horse quickly, but one as well trained as she will be hard to come by. Oneska is calm and will, I think, be level headed in battle. A good horse in battle can save a man's life..."
"But, Merik, I don't want---I can't..." Gola stopped speaking and stared at the ground, a single tear dropping to the packed earth. "I can train her to take a headstall, but I cannot promise that she will take a bit," she said, and turning, she flung herself on Ona and galloped out of the yard, holding back tears with all her might.

Oneska was distressed. Gentle Hands was fiercely hugging her around the neck as her tears soaked Ona's mane and whithers. Gola's hands, the hands that had so steadily groomed Oneska earlier, now shook with emotion and barely repressed fury. The unrelenting noon sun beat down upon them, making their shadows small, and increasing their discomfort. Golana stood by her horse, cried out and distraught. Ever sensible, Oneska slow-footed her way to a stand of trees, allowing the girl to lean weakly against her whithers, and nickering encouragingly. When the two reached the dappled shade, Golana collapsed onto the soft grass, curling into a ball to shut out the world. Oneska lay down beside her trying to comfort the best friend she had. She concernedly whuffled into the long blond mane of the girl, and tenderly licked her arm. Anxious and worn out, Golana fell asleep, her head pillowed on Oneska's soft belly.
My poor, sweet Gentle Hands! thought the horse,She weeps and I cannot comfort her. Her pain is too deep yet to be stayed. It will go away eventually, yes, but I will stay. She will know this and we will grow closer for it. But it aches within me to see her so. I love her, and she loves me. I love my Gentle Hands.
Golana stirred, as if hearing this last thought, and whispered,"I love you, too, beautiful girl..." before returning to sleep. Oneska curled her legs aroung the girl protectively.

Wingmane heard his master whistle and call his name. Wingmane didn't want to leave his new friends. He heard his master whislte and call again. Wingmane whinneyed a good bye to his new found herd/friends , turned around and galloped away. When Wingmane saw his master he slowed down to a trot. he stopped obediantly infront of his master. "Hey boy,"Darcyn said.
I followed him to the stables were he gently groomed me. he then tacked me up. We left the stables, ready to head out from Edoras, to our home when a gaurd on a large horse cantered over to us. He halted infront of us and spoke to my master. After the gaurd left, I could feel the charnge in my masters mood. When he had before been so happy and carefree, he was now tense and upset. He pressed me into a quick paced gallopo. I could tell that he was destressed and wanted to get home quickly so I went as quickly as I could. Once we reached or home, my master led me to the stables. He gave me a hastey brushing, and some food and water. He ran into the house. I ate my feed quietly and then rested for the night.
The next morning my master came out to my stable. With him he brought his father, whom I rarely saw at the stable. They had on heavy gear. I could feel the difference in my masters weight, when he mounted onto my back. His father rode up to me on his horse, Windhoof. My master rode me around to the front of the house. he again dismounted and went to talk to his mother and little filly. I waited were he left me. He came back and then he mounted again. He pressed me into a trot. I could tell that something was wrong with him, but what I did not know.

I saw Wingmane. He was mounted, I did not understand. I whinnied in confusion. Wingmane looked up and neighed softly. He did not understand the situation either. I reared to my full height. Although I could feel the fear in Wingmane's owner, he tried not to pat attention to me. I followed Wingmane and saw an army of humans. I stopped and turned, although Wingmane was my friend, I would not risk capture for him. I galloped away, and with a last backward glance, I left sight from Wingmane.

I whinneyed a farwell to my friend. I understood that Bucephalus had to leave, but I wanted her stay. As Bucephalus had just cantered away from sight, I turned my thoughts to the horses around me. What were they all ding here? And why were there masters clad in heavy gear as well? As I was begining to get worried I saw a mare come and join the group. Her master came and stood beside my master. I looked at the mare. She seemed distressed and upset. I swished my tail, trying to get rid of the flys on my barrel, and flank. It was becoming hot and humid very fast. I shook my head and blinked my eyes. There were flys all around. Stomping the ground, I began to become impatiant. I looked at the horse beside me again. She remained calm, but still looked strangely troubled. I softly nickered to her.

All new horses. I am not an expert on horses and just did this for fun so don't be sur[rised at my knoledge.
ic: Wingmane followed her master away and when I saw them again her master was clad in metal as had recongised once before. they wer war male and I became aware of tension between my new friends. another horse came over for a drink and I decided I would find out what was going on. It seemd when I got to the horses destiny I found myself surrounded by humans and their horses all set for war. Nervous herds nuzzled each other in oain. It was as though they were leaving of to war at that second.

ooc: I'm sorry I haven't been on, I had the flu yesterday and I couldn't go on the computer.
ic: I saw Cor and cantered toward her. My ears were set back on my head in confusion. Other horses streamed past me in fear. Cor was soon lost to me in the river of spooked horses. A muscular stallion who was little smaller then me kicked me hard in the ribs and I was strewn from the herds.
Suddenly, I saw my master running into the clearing, he had armor on. My heart sank... there was only one way to escape him. I took off running, then leaped across the rushing river that blocked my path. I landed with a 'clunk' on the bank. My master stood with his fist raised on the other side. I took off again and fled for the forest.

ic: I became confused as men started to grab horses not caring if it were theirs or not so they could follow the lead horse off to war. I panik I heard a whinny of fright and knew one of my friends was in trouble. I ran back towards the river and found Bucephalus running fast away from a human in armour. he seemed frightened and I knew why. I ran over and bucked the human down to the gound. Bucephalus folowed me to the city but stopped when seeing the big crowd off armoured people. I became frightened off being taken to war and having a strange master again.

ic: The forest was dark, and I could hardly see anything, the sound of chanking mail could still be heard but was very vague. A small stream ran through the woods, although tempted to drink, the water seemed suspicious. I turned at the sound of footsteps, but no one was there. I snorted to make myself sound dangerous, I didn't necessarily suceed. It started to rain, and I lay myself down onto the soft forest floor.

The men running toward us were spooked. Seeing the beings ordinarily so calm and focused become so afraid, I panicked. I neighed and reared, then galloped as fast as I could to get away from them. I saw Bucephalus disappear into the forest, and followed. It began to rain, and I kept running.
The Calm Ones feared. Disaster must have been at hand, and the further away from it I was, the safer I'd be.

ic:I bolted off into the forest following my other to friends who were scared of the happenings as well. I heard a scream of a human and found that the villagers were moving out and I lost sight of my two friends. I heard a stream next to me and followed it down. The rain made me shiver uncomfortably as I followed the trail. I finally found my two frtiends huddled towgther looking questiononingly at me and themselves.

I looked at Cor, and softly told her that I didn't know what we should do. I had never had a problem with humans before; my own rider was nice enough. He was very old and didn't ride often, so we'd never had a strong bond, but he wasn't like Cor's old master, either.
These frightened humans were something else altogether. I'd seen them grab the other horses roughly, disregarding all in their fear. I didn't want to be anywhere near humans like that. But the other horses who had been here were my friends, and I wanted to see what had become of them, to find out if they were all right.

Name: Hurricane
Gender: Female
Rider: Serenity Indway
Looks: Black, she looks just like the horses of the Nazgul. Always willing for a fight. Her eyes are black as her fur, and the tips of her tail had the same blueish flame as her owner's hair(long story)
I dont know much more about her, so here I am:
ic: I trotted through the fields. We had just gotten here, and been attacked twice. I wandered around a bit looking for other horses, but none seemed to want to talk. Suddenly, Serenity bound over to me, and we were out on our way. "War. Curse it. It is just a repeat of what I saw." I heard her mummble. I knew what she ment. It was long ago, and the same reson she dreses in the Nazgul fasion. As we got to where we were going I could guess, Serenity hopped off. "Stay close to here, I may need you soon." She took off, and I headed for a nearby forest. Gathered there were a few more horses. A pack.It had to be. I never was accepted in a pack. Mostly because I feared them. I stopped a few feet away from this group.

ic: The new horse addresed(herself?) as Hurrican and that her master was trying to figure out what was happening. Another horse ran over with a coat of dark brown telling us to report to our owners for bad creatures are coming and that we need to travel fast so we can avoid them.
"Orcs?" I asked.
"Thats what the humans call them." responded the horse who started off again telling us that we were to go back to the village which wer headed to a place called Helm's Deep and thatthe old king had risine(sp) again and is joined back the great horse Shadowfax. We were to follow Shadowfax's command and come help the humans.
"What i have no bussines here." I answered in a angry whinny.
But then I looked over at some of the traveling young humans and felt sorry fortheir thin fur and two skinny weak legs. I looked at my friends then saw a human who had not yet chosen a horse. There was something odd about that human that made me think that he or she was not suppose to be in her possesion. a shorter human(or whatever it was) came by her side and she found me starring at her and approached.

Golana woke with a start. The sun was setting, and she was nearly two miles from home. She sighed once and talked soothingly to Oneska who had not left her side once. She laid her palm flat on Ona's cheek, and Ona blinked contentedly. The girl was once more mistress of herself, though aged by grief. Her face was pinched and pale, and her hands trembled uncontrollably. Her mouth was tight and sad; her eyes were red from her tears.
She stood, shaking the wrinkles from the skirt her mother insisted that she wear. She brushed the dried grass from her hair, quickly, while waiting for Oneska to heave herself to her feet. The mare shook herself, and came to stand by Gola who hugged her strongly before mounting. "Home, Ona," said the girl."To home!"

It was mid day. The herd of horses and humans were worried. I could sence it. They humans with out horse started to try and find some. My master patted me gently. I was glad to have him riding me and not a stranger. I saw one of the friends I had made from the herd by the brook earlier. She was starting to approch a man. I whinnied out to her warning her to leave. I knew that we were going to war, and did not want my friend to have to suffer, as I would.

Oneska shook her head irritably as the halter chafed her hot skin. Every place the leather touched on her head was itchy with sweat. She shook her head several times, trying to remove it as she would normally rid herself of any pestification. Gola stood at her head, smoothing Ona's cheek, and murmering soothing words in her ear. Ona stopped jiggling her head and listened, calmed by the love in her mistress's voice. This must be one of those strange things humans did, that no horse understood. Oneska showed her compliance by lowering her head to nibble the fluttering string-tie of Golana's over dress.

Golanna smiled sadly at the ready acceptance of her one friend. Gently removing the sash ends from her horse's mouth, she attached a lead rope to the halter ring. Oneska was not afraid. She had seen this rope before. It had hung in her stall for three days now, along with the contraption on her head, and neither one had tried to harm her, even when she chewed on them. Placing a hand firmly on Ona's neck, Gola tugged lightly on the rope while simultaneously commanding, "Walk."

ooc: Do you mean your part is still a one horse story?????
ic: The human touched my nose gently and patted my neck as a sighn of friendship. i nised the human in a questioning manner trying to figure out what he or she wanted but instead the human grabbed my head riens which were never removed since my escape and led me away.
I whinneyed to my friends who stood and had no idea what to do so i just followed the human. The human led me to a barn and inside grabbed in a hurry a saddle and a blankette. She threw the blankette sadle on me and hooked it up to the neck ropes. Then she grabbed the little human and put hi on my back after he explained his wanting to go to the war and help. the soldier asked if the creature knew who she was but he had no idea so she called herself Dernhelm.

ooc: yes, i mean my part is all still a one horse story. lol ;)
ic: Oneska planted her forefeet in surprise, and lifted her head high to avoid the rope. She half-stepped backwards, confused at the command she had just received. Golanna, whose hand had lost contact with the surprised Ona's neck, stepped forward again, placing her hand in the same place. Again, she tugged and said,"Walk." Oneska's ears flicked back and forth in bewilderment, but she obediently stepped forward in tiny baby steps. Upon receiving lavish praise, she walked more confidently, pleased with herself for doing what her dear Gentle Hands wished of her. By the end of the lesson, she understood the cues for walk, trot, canter, gallop and stand when given from the ground, and from the saddle. By the end of the lesson, Gentle Hands was battling with her tears.

ooc: anyone else going to post, or are you leaving it to me?
ic: It was early morn. Golana was standing in the half-light, holding Oneska's head while she waited for Merik to finish his goodbyes. He was taking a while, and also allowing her to have Oneska to herself one last time. While she maternally straightened Ona's forelock, and brushed invisible specks of dust off of Ona's shoulder, Gola's mind was otherwise occupied. Because Golana did not mean to be without her beloved Oneska for more than a month at best.
unicorn14br
03-23-2003, 02:14 AM
Less than a week ago, she had found a young gelding that would be a suitable mount for Merik once both were trained up a bit. The trainee's camp would take care of Merik; Golana would school his horse. The gelding's name was Samat, and while he wasn't much to look at by most horse dealer's standards, his long neck (longer from the whithers to the upper lip than from the whithers to the dock) promised powerful, staying speed. He was a spirited thing, in charge of everything but the world. He bullied the owner's goat and sheepdog fearfully, but his temper was more or less good natured. He did not mind biting when he thought it necessary. For some reason, though, the farmer seemed glad to be rid of him.
unicorn14br
03-23-2003, 02:18 AM
Golana meant to train Samat quickly and thoroughly so she could take him to Merik as soon as it was possible. It was rather a rough, circumstantial plan, pieced together in the night, and sewn in the dark. Tired of the monotony of her farm life, Golana was content to see if a change came in a month, and, if one didn't come that was to her liking, she was going to be the one in charge of the changing. She had and knew how to use her brother's old practice sword and painted wooden shield. She knew well how to use her hunting bow, and to pack for a trip was second nature to her. She intended to join her brother in the training camp, and make herself worthwhile.
unicorn14br
03-23-2003, 02:23 AM
Golana smiled with an effort, and winced as her brother yanked the saddle sideways while climbing on. He started to say something, but she interrupted him before he could start. "Don't!" she said, hastily,"Get off of her now. You can tell me after you've learned to mount her properly."
unicorn14br
03-23-2003, 02:33 AM
Dumbfounded, Merik dismounted, and tried again. Gola stopped him, corrected his stance, and bade him try again. This try was unsuccessful and the third one was as well. On the fourth try he finally got it to her satisfaction. She smiled genuinely this time, lecturing,"If you're going to be a soldier of Rohan, then you mustn't shame Rohan with the way you ride! Take care to brush her coat in the direction the hair grows, and don't drop the saddle on her back when you're tacking up. Ease it on. Take care and godspeed."
unicorn14br

She stood on tiptoe as he bent his head down, and brushed his cheek with a light kiss before turning and disappearing into the stables to watch his departure from the loft.

ooc: so there's a lot of it. but i LIKE to write! and if ona and gola are ever to join the herd, it seems most likely that she'll meet them at the trainee's camp. i figured that (even though there isn't any such camp in the story) there should be a place where the horses and riders could meet and be stationary for a few months, so we can pick up any stragglers. this way we can also get a few humans as well. happy writing!

Hey sicirus! here i am! hey Lottie!
Name: Aerin
Rider: Lalatha, a human (not Lalaitha, totally different character, i just like the name)
Color: Silver, with a hand-print like patch of gold on her rump. Black eyes that shine silver when she is angry
Personality: A gentle young mare, very sensitive and can have her feelings hurt easiliy. Very sociable, with a lot of horse sense. Can keep her wits about her in a battle.
History: Aerin's mother died after she gave birth to Aerin, and her master never treated her with any kindness. He used her as a work horse, but when he died, she escaped and was found by a woman named Lalatha, who took care of her and trained her for battle. when Lalatha found out about the war, she packed her possesions onto Aerin and headed for the training camp.
As you aren't at the camp yet, i will wait and let you people get to that part, then i'll start posting.

ooc: well, somebody's got to write!
ic: Samat's training was not going well. He was stubborn as a mule, and wanted his way and only his way. He did not appreciate having his ears handled. He let Golana know this, the very first day she put a bridle on him, by nipping the underside of her arm and stepping on her foot. Golana had cursed fluently(she thought she might as well start learning to be a soldier in every way), smacking him on the nose before cross-tying him in the stable so she could finish tacking him up.

The gelding bucked regularly every morning. He always rolled his eyes at her, contemplating in a rather ridiculous manner if he thought he could get away with it, and proceded to rattle her spine through her teeth. All she could do was cling on grimly. These furious bouts of "saddle-battle" drew a crowd of watchers, some biting their nails and fretting for her safety, others betting on how long she'd stay put.

Nearly every time she learned to fly, she got cat-calls from the onlookers. This lasted until one morning, after one particularly graceful dive into the ground. There was a group of jeering youths standing by the fence, calling her names and shouting ugly comments. Rubbing a particularly sore rear end, she stalked over to the gate and opened it. She grabbed the lead fellow's collar and dragged him into the paddock with her. She shoved him towards Samat, saying, "You look like a fine, strong specimen of a horseman to me. If you ride as well as you ridicule, you'll be better than me. You have a go."
Samat snorted innocently and sauntered over, looking the young man up and down as if to say 'what have we here? ' .
unicorn14br
04-08-2003, 02:26 AM
The boy gulped and started to step backwards, when he heard a whisper in his ear."Afraid then, are you?"
He straightened his lanky self and cleared his throat, before grabbing a handful of mane to heave himself into the saddle. He didn't even get his leg over, before he landed with a thud. "Again," said Gola, hauling him roughly to his feet.
unicorn14br
04-08-2003, 02:30 AM
Three times he tried. Three times the young man learnt how to fly, and, as he sat, dazed, on the dirt of the paddock, Gola came over and bodily picked him up. She carried him to the fence and carelessly tossed him over into the water trough, yelling after him, "I'm a human, not a god!"
unicorn14br
04-08-2003, 02:33 AM
She looked so fierce as she remounted, that no one said anything. Samat petulantly flaunted his tail at the soaking, misfortunate boy, and started anew with her. After that incident, her temper was watched warily, and no one ever said another word about her flying lessons.
unicorn14br
04-08-2003, 02:38 AM
Gola was in a temper. So was Samat. The day she had been wanting to leave on had come and gone, and here she sat on a stool in the kitchen, fists balled, while her mother stitched up a wound on her head. In his haste to be rid of her, Samat had thrown her into the fence. She'd cracked her head on a fence post and was out like a light in an instant. Samat, all apologies, had come to bring his mistress 'round and had stepped on the fingers of her left hand in his haste. Two of them, the pinkie and ring fingers, were broken and now in a splint. Gola's mother tutted disapprovingly as she fished a splinter out of her protesting daughter's scalp. "Why must you keep training him, dear? I worry so much that he might kill you! He throws you off regularly, and you get right back on him again, giving him countless chances to re-attempt your murder. We could just sell him, and get a much better horse! One that wouldn't beat you around so much."
unicorn14br
04-08-2003, 02:41 AM
"No, Mama. He will make a wonderful battle horse, and then he will need his temper to use against his foes, and to protect his rider. I took him on to train for Merik. Merik must have a horse, and Samat learns something new every day! I teach him how to behave. In return, he teaches me to fly and look like a fool."
"Behave!..." her mother snorted mirthlessly.
unicorn14br
04-08-2003, 02:44 AM
"You just don't understand him, Mama," she said, laying her head on her mother's lap again to renew the torment of needle and thread. "Once you have a glimpse of his agenda, his actions are clear."
She tensed again as her tender skin was pulled."AYA! Careful, Mama! I'm not complaining, but t'would be nice if you had a care for my bruised and bashed bonnet!"
Her mother chuckled and resumed her stitching "And would you mind telling me what his agenda is, my poor pounded poppet, since I have not dared to come close enough to have glimpsed it?"
"His agenda is to be nothing less than a spoiled rotten fiend, O terrible intolerable tyranical torturer of a mother."
Her mother cackled wickedly before attacking the wound with heightened enthusiasm.

His colt Boromir tried to bring me on one of his journeys but I bit him on the but because he was not a great rider either.
He was a big colt!
I threw my head back and put my ears back to listen to the riders noises and heard of a war and a place called Gondor.
What? I don't want to go back to that place!
I stopped but was given a comfoting pat on my neck which was my weakness and at once was allowed to be lead closer to where I had just escaped(sp?).
My friends watched me with questions in their wide eyes. I neighed reassuringly.

Oneska was dreadfully peevish. Everytime she swung around in these mock battles, her rider nearly fell off. It was a disgrace to any horse to have to carry such a rider. She irritably switched her tail, snaking through the chaos, ears back and snapping at "enemy" horses' knees. Even though her charge swung to and fro and clung to the saddle, Oneska did her best to help him balance; she was determined to do her part well! Heaving a heavy sigh, Ona stopped a moment, allowing Merrik to straighten in the saddle, and open his visor (which had fallen over his eyes). He glanced around surreptitiously, to see if anyone had noticed his clumsy seat. All else were caught up in combat, never noticing his standing mount. He raised his sword, and sat straighter. Catching sight of an opposing rider in difficulty, Merrik grabbed the saddle horn with one hand (he was waving his sword wildly about with the other hand), and spurred Ona, yelling, "CHAAAAARGE!". Oneska sighed again as she began to gallop: Merrik's visor had fallen down again, and he had dropped his shield. Oh, what a blessing it would be to see Gentle Hands again!

My rider was slain in the battle with the orcs. My chosen Rider was Legolas. He was an elf so he rode elf fashion. When we set out from Mirkwood, at first it was cold damp and dark. My rider had an important mission, to tell the counsel of Rivendell that Gollum,or Smeagol, Had escaped from Mirkwood's Prison. After a while, we had Passed through Mirkwood, and headed over Mount. Karkaras. We passed it and went through many a danger, such as orcs and wild men from across the mountans. We finally reached Rivendell.
He jumped off me and one of the Rivendell elves took me to the stables. His name I do belive was Glorfindiel. Legolas rode me often through the woods of Rivendell which were not gloomy and dreary like Mirkwood, but full of life and had flowers as far as the eye could see. But lo and behold he set out on that quest to destroy the One Ring. Just before he left he gave me a charm. He said "Do not use this until The quest is over and you have found me once more."
So I wated and waite and waited for the journey to be over. I waited a good amount of years before I heard the word that the war was over. The elves at Rivendell released me and I sped off into the wilderness. I had found him after help from Aragorn and Gandalf. When I saw him I was overjoyed and walked behind him and neighed. He looked like he was going to faint, so I walked over him and I stood next to him. he said "use the charm." I used it, and lo and behold instead of hooves there were hands. Instead of a tail I had legs and arms.Human legs and arms.I had turned into an elf and I was so surprised that I let out a human Sounding yelp. He calmly took the pack that was now on the floor and drew from it a dress of Green sarin. I put it on and felt what it was like to be an elf. A few years later Legolas proposed and she said "I do." She followed him like a horse and master and became more and more like a elf. She eventually followed him to the Gray Havens and lived happily with him till the end of her days.

Did you read the rpg of Horses of Rohan? You kinda went of task. I don't mean to be mean or hurt you but you had the right character(Imena you can use that character) its just you diden't post the right thing.
Sorry:( But that would make a nice story of your own.:D
ic: We rode off tailing the other warriors who were following Snowmane. They were headed off to Helm's Deep in search for safty from the dark Lord Sauron and Sarumon who had taking a liking to the kingdom of Rohan.
We traveled for miles and I felt like my mouth could get no dryer but then was proven wrong. We stopped finally and I was given a bit of water from Dernhelm's water skin. I was gratful for the water even though it was now warm. I nuzzled the human gently and recieved a pat of approaval and once again felt loved by a human since my groomer Faramir. Faramir enjoyed talking to me while grooming my gray fur with affection.
he always gave me sugar cubes(if there are any inME) and other foods when they had left overs.
The warriors were nervous and the horses shifted slightly trying to find a comfortable possision but failing(sp) at every attempt.

ic: The day dawned pink as a medlar flower and clear as crystal. As Golana picked her way through the courtyard to the stable, she contemplated the adventure ahead of her. Her saddlebags were packed with serviceable clothes and useful items, everything she would need. She'd had Merik's old sword sharpened, and all that remained was to rip out the whip stitches in the corner of her mattress to remove the sack of coinage she kept hidden there. Gola's mother, Oleanal, intended for her to stay with her Aunt Renal in Edoras for a few months.

Samat, whose manners had improved greatly during the last week, consented to be groomed, and tacked up. Gola put a martingale on him just to be safe, and they both proceded (with skittish steps) through the stable doors. Samat tried to scrape Golana off on the door frame, but she just made herself skinny and squeaked past before he could squash her. After that one transparent bit of disobedience (just to remind Gola of who was boss), he settled down and allowed her to load him.
unicorn14br
04-19-2003, 07:58 PM
Trudging down the steps from the attic room she shared with her sisters, Gola poked silver pieces into her belt-purse, satisfied that she had enough for any emergencies, with extra left over. She couldn't think of any way to explain the practice sword and shield, but her mother said nothing, because she knew that Gola was taking it as part of her disguise (that was part of her reason), and approved. "Enjoy the ride as much as you can, my dear, for I do not know when next the country will be safe for such a ride nor when it will be so pretty. Take care of yourself and Aunt Renal. Keep an eye on Merik with that horse!"
unicorn14br
04-19-2003, 08:00 PM
Samat sniffed lovingly at Oleanal's apron and lipped her over-dress. "Away with you beastie! Shoo!" cried Gola's mother, flapping her hands and scolding him away, but she smoothed his neck when he removed his nose. "I really am quite fond of you..." she told him, then,"the farm will be quiet without you both to keep me busy! Speed your return. Travel well, my loves!"

04-19-2003, 08:04 PM
Daughter and her mother embraced strongly, not knowing how long it would be until they saw each other next. Then Gola mounted, pretending not to notice her mother's watery eyes. Her mother laughed a little as she wiped them, and Golana bent down from Samat's back for a last kiss from her mother, saying "I love you, Mama. Take care of the little ones, and don't fret! I shall be back soon, and with my Oneska, and all will be well, I hope. Mayhap, I'll even bring Merik back! Be cheerful and of good heart, we shall see each other soon! May you be blest with safety and health! Good-bye!"
She wheeled Samat and rode him out of the quiet courtyard, and into the fields beyond.

ic: A warm blue blankette was thrown over my back and I closed my eyes to sleep. Yet as dreams unrolled inmy mind and the softness of Faramir's touch was smoothing over my neck a cry of horror struck the midnight silence causing my eyes to open and my head to jolt up. Arrows flew from all directions and horsess started to struggle against their bonds to break free. Humans rushed to their aid and unteathered their companions. My human came and jumped onto my back and ghave a short kick. I stumbled off as the human drew out a sharp blade that I knew was a sighn of fighting and lost of noise.
My heart raced and my ears set back to listen to my humans voice for comfort or any sighn of death. The human swung the blade and hit an arrow flying towards the camp.
People fled to the woods some leaving their horses and others gathering the last of their stuff brfore an attack.
I wanted to go with them but instead was led towards the danger.
Towards a doom unseen.

ic: Gola was dressed simply in boys' clothes: breeches on top of woolen hose, and a grey tunic over a white, long-sleeved shirt. Boots, a lace-up jerkin, and a thick, homespun riding cloak completed the outfit. A small boot-knife and two small daggers were hidden in her clothing in accessible places; she had been practicing, and had gotten quite good at throwing them to hit a mark. Golana's long blond hair was concealed under the cloak hood, braided tightly about her head to reduce the risk of her becoming hampered and entangled, and also to mask her gender. The roads were not safe for a lone rider, and less so for a lone female, capable as she might be.
unicorn14br
05-12-2003, 12:23 AM
Gola gloried in the freedom of the boys' clothes she wore; a wondrous three days without having to wear a dress once. Her thoughts clouded for a moment, thinking about Aunt Renal's reaction when she saw her niece in britches, but she dismissed the thought airily enough, concluding that she would find a stand of trees as close to Edoras as possible to change into a hated dress.
unicorn14br
05-12-2003, 12:35 AM
The ride progressed well enough; Samat made good time, alternating between gaits, with Gola dismounting every two hours or so, stretching to keep from getting increasingly sore. By sunset, Samat was beginning to weary, and Gola began looking for a place to spend the night. A small but deep creek with a tiny grove of scrub trees presented the ideal location for a camp.
unicorn14br
05-12-2003, 12:44 AM
Gola picketed Sam, and tiredly gathered kindling, piling it and and setting it alight, for the nights were still cold, before she went to refill her canteen at the stream. The stream was icy, being fed by mountain snow-melt, but it was alive with fish. Committing this to memory, the girl trudged back to her camp, resolving to try a spot of candle fishing. Whilst organizing herself, numerous useful items appeared out of her saddlebags. This included, among other things, a collapsible kettle and a short-handled shovel with which she promptly dug a much needed latrine trench. She carefully chose the spot downwind of her camp, where it was secluded and not close enough to the stream to contaminate the water. Then she lay out her sleeping roll, and sat upon it to polish Merrik's sword.

ooc: It is rather hard to post when no one who is near you posts for long periods of time. *rubs behind*
ic: The human on my back kicked at my gray side and I ran off. I saw my friend from the field Wingmane riding in fear with her human watching the field for the enemy. I steered towards her ignoring the soldier on my back.
I whinned, telling her I was here. She turned to look at me and we both knew that we were to help the humans fight and maybe even die.
In the distance a new horse trotted down to meet the camp and a young rider was perched on her back. She seemed to be new at the tumans riding her and I was curious to know what she was doing here. I told Wingmane of the new horse and we both waited a second before our master decided to get out their swords and ride us towards the danger. Is aw the new horse do the same without even saying that they were there to the other humans. WE rode furiously towards the ugly wolf creatures and our master struck them with the force of millions yet the enemy seemed like two million on the back of the wolf creatures. The wolves snarled and barked at us biting our legs and causing us to bleed. My front leg bleed freely and I tried to bend down to lick it but was steered forward for another attack.
Wingmane's legs were also bleeding but she was determend to fight with all her strength. She kicked at the wolves and I followed her example almost throwing off my rider. I stoped there and found that the new horse was moving swiftly among the wolves avoiding their bites and alomost enjoying the challenge!
ooc: I am going to have some trouble posting for awhile because of final exams and a project I am working on (about Tolkien) so don't kick my butt agian. I have to use it to sit on those horribly plastic chairs at school.:D

ooc: Hey! I'm a boy! :p I will personally make sure that Unicorn doesn't kick yer butt. :D
ic: We weaved our way through the strange creatures. I saw one coming towards me, and I kicked at it with my left hind leg. it fell to the ground and my master shot at it, with an arrow. The creatures kept on coming. It seemed that for every one we killed 2 more came along. We continued to fight the creatures, when aventually, it seemed that the flow was broken and all the wargs that had come, where here. I glanced at Cor, and saw that she was still fighting. I looked around again, and saw the new horse. His legs where free from blood or ingury. He looked younge rthen most of the other horses here.

ooc: it's about time that you lot got high behind and started writing... and Sir "Lady of Rohan", let me remind thee(ahem!):
A man has his will. A woman has her WAY.
any attempt to prove otherwise is HIGHLY unrecommended. should you attempt to protect sicirus, you shall only succeed in getting YOUR butt kicked as well! ;) having two older sibs and a younger bloodthirsty sis has its uses....and none of them have kicked my butt in a LONG time. not all girls are soft and silly!
i must say that i enjoyed having samat take the beans to ya'll, though....but i'll get over it. hopefully, you shan't forget anytime soon! abligaboon to you!

ic: It was a good sword, plain, but serviceably made. Golana ran practiced fingers over its length, testing the edge and brushing off invisible specks of dirt. She gave it a few more swipes with her cloth, then did some practice exercises. She swept it up, straining to keep the long blade steady in one hand, while she balanced on a stone. She flicked a leaf off of the tree above her, sliced the head off of a dandelion and flicked a stick into the fire (not causing any disturbance in the build of the blaze whatsoever), all in one movement. The leaf fluttered down to land in the fire, and the dandelion head curled almost lazily in an arc to land on the toe of her boot. Satisfied with her performance, she sheathed Merrik's---no, her blade.

Then, bending down, Gola rummaged in a saddle bag, coming up with a candle. Musing for a moment, Gola also pulled out a flint and a pouch of tinder; she didn't feel like losing half of her candle and her hand while trying to light it from her campfire. Drawing the dagger from her boot, she struck sparks, catching a few in the tinder on her rock. Blowing gently, she lit the wick, sheltering it with her palm, and smothered the tinder before it could burn too much to use again. Sweeping the tinder back into her pouch, she stowed dagger, flint and bag away. Then she pulled out the folded, lose-woven mat she used for fishing, before heading off to the creek for some supper.

ooc: No! I meant that my CHARACTER was male, not me! :D
ic: The day was growing old. The wargs and there riders where steadily growing fewer in numbers. I looked over at cor and saw that she was alright. My master signaled for me to turn around, and i obayed. I broke into a canter as i headed back to the camp. I could hear my rider shouting to some behind us. He felt more relaxed on my back now, then he did during the fight. By the way my master was relaxed I guessed that the worst was over.

ooc: Ok lets get everyone back.
ic: The battle ewas over! My legs were bloody but my heart skipped with laughter. i limped slightly going back to the camp. The soldiers on my back urged me forward witha kind word and urgency. I was gevin water and rest. I walked over to the new horse and found that she to was tired but still standing with pride. I whinned to get her attention. She looked at me, water drizzling from her mouth.
Hello"
"Hello" she answered shaking her head and letting her mane fly around.
Didi you just join our army?
"yep"
The wind blew and the army took time to set up a small camp and rest.

My rider dismounted, and led me the rest of the way. He spoke kind words, and patted my neck. He untacked me, and washed off my knees which where bloody. I was tired, and needed rest. I could hear the bussy rustling of all the other horses and riders moving around me.

My rider toke me over to a makeshift corale. he lead me inside, then unclipped my leadshank. I ambeld over to the other end of the pen. I was tired beond recale. My master still seemed worried about something, but I did not trouble myself to think what. I vaguly noticed that there where other horses in the pen too, but did not care. Just as I began to fade into a deep sleep, I heard people shouting. It seemed some trouble had broken out over the camp site, but i didn't worry.
OOC; Yer lucky to play the LotR soundtrack, Unicorn!

ooc: sorry i haven't posted in so long... it's been one thing right after another. our concert for the largest free fourth of july festival in the united states went really well, but i didn't end up getting to play the solo, because the stage crew didn't have a mike for me. :-P but, oh well, we still played it. the 5th of july, i had auditions for band orchestra camp, and an intensive week of orchestra music and solos there. then, happy joy, on the 17th i got my wisdom teeth out. it's about all i can do to sit in the computer chair and type to you lot. consider yourselves lucky that i like to write!!! lol, anyways, any good wishes for my health would be greatly appreciated and happily accepted. there's more writing on the way, but i have to go back to bed right now. happy writing and cheers!
ic: Gola's patience was rewarded when she caught four fat fish. She cleaned two, before placing them on the coals of her fire to cook. The other two she tethered in the stream, binding their back fins tightly with twine. Her intention was to cook them for breakfast. After feasting on the suculent, flaky meat, Gola re-picketed Sam, used the latrine, and banked her fire, before falling onto her bedroll and into deep dreamless slumber.

ooc: here guys... i'm getting there
ic: A muffled thud accompanied by Samat's huffy snort woke Golana in the wee hours of the morning. Grumpily she sat up, gazing blearily in the direction of her horse. She had a brief but silent tussle with her bed clothes, (convinced that they were trying to strangle her) before she managed to stand. Padding in her bare feet over to Sam, she noticed him standing the length of his rope by a humpy form on the ground. Crouching in the shadows, she slipped smoothly over the ground to the lumped figure. Samat cocked an ear at her, pawing the ground and stretching his head out as far as the rope would allow. Luckily for the person laying on the ground, no part of his body was in the reach of the irritable gelding.

With her belt, she secured the hands of the unconscious intruder, then rolled the man onto his back. His breath whooshed out with a groan, and his face contorted with pain. Before he came round, she searched his clothes for hidden weapons. The armaments she removed were placed in a small pile, including a pair of wrist knives, a boot knife, throwing stars, a strangling noose, a packet of lock picks and blades, and a small compartmented container holding mysterious powders and vile looking liquids that she found wound in his thick, tangled hair.

Only when the items were placed in a hollow on a nearby tree, did Gola fetch her canteen of water and unceremoniously dash it in his face. He spluttered at the rude awakening, and scowled up at her through dark, soggy locks hanging over his eyes. Glaring just as meanly, Gola sank to her heels (right hand behind her, working the throwing knife free of its sheath in the small of her back) and peered into his face. She spoke not a word, simply stared from the shadows, apparently unconcerned for his comfort or her own. (For anyone who doesn't know, this is a very unnerving experience.)
