In the movie The Two Towers, Gollum was usually guiding Sam and Frodo in the day. That seems strange, considering either in the Fellowship of the Ring or the Two Towers books it mentioned Gollum not being able to travel in any sunlight- maybe even moonlight, I don't know. It was a while ago that I read the books. I'm working on the History of Middle-earth now.

I would say this was mostly for convenience purposes as far as the movie was concerned. Traveling only at night would have made it more difficult to piece together all the scenes of TTT.
Also, I think I remember reading that in the end, Gollum's need for the ring outweighed even his hate for the sun, so he traveled day and night in his quest to find it.

Gollum hated and feared both sunlight and moonlight. That is why he took shelter in the Misty Mountains.

It's a good point, but remember that the movies are BASED on the books, so for convenience, I think it was perfectly acceptable.

Well, he did come out of the mountains to find the Ring....but, you are right in your point on this. It really doesn't make sense. Maybe for lighting purposes PJ felt like leaving that outta the movies..........hmmmm....*stomps off*
