Shelob

and...
Frodo v. Gollum in Mount Doom

I'm looking foward to the whole confrontation with Sharkey when the Hobbits get back to Hobbiton. I also want to see the destruction of the ring in Mt. Doom. Shelob is going to be cool too.

Of course I'm looking forward to the whole movie but there are some parts of the book I especially would appreciate so see (I'll never forgive PJ if he doesn't include this scenes).
11) Eowyn versus the Lord of the Nazgul
This, of course.
And:
Eowyn and Faramir getting together and kissing in the wind. His black (actually brown in the movie) and her blonde hair mingling in the wind.

Since the TTT movie left off before the end of the book, there will be the whole fight with Shelob. But what I am really looking forward to is the inner struggle of humble Samwise as he takes up the ring for the continuation of the mission of the fellowship, as he believes that he is the last survivor. The change in his character as servant to captain of the mission is a huge turn in the story for him. It really touched me.
That and Eowyn and Merry's Nazgul ass kickin' scene [As for the beast he rode: The outstretched neck she clove asunder, and the hewn head fell like a stone.] Butt kickin' scene!!! Booyah!! Let the heads roll!!!! :D

Definately the chapter "The Choices of Master Samwise". Go Sam!!
Also:
When Merry and Eowyn kill the Witch King, the Paths of the Dead, the crowning of Aragorn, and the Grey Havens. That always makes me cry! :( (in the book I mean)
I will walk right out of the theater if the line "I am no man!" is cut.

Shelob isn't that important to me, but I'm really looking forward how she will be looking. What was PJ's impression of her?
Gwaimir Windgem
02-20-2003, 12:07 PM
Arwen slaying the Witch-king. ;) :D
The Scouring of the Shire was one of the best parts of the book! It showed the Hobbits as a whole standing up and taking arms to defeat their enemies! I would not be in the least surprised to hear that it was Tolkien's favorite part.
Anyway, done grouching and complaining. (for now ;) )
Shelob
The Breaking of the Staff of Saruman
Seeing Aragorn as a King.
Of COURSE Eowyn slaying the Witch-king. (Even PJ would never replace her with Arwen. Would he.... :confused: :o :( )
Seeing Gandalf the White do some awesome butt-kicking.
Gollum's Last Jig :D

I am also looking forward to watching Frodo becoming more and more like Gollum. The scene where Sam finds him naked and whipped, huddling wretched in a corner... then the addiction to the ring becomes more than he can bear and he can not give up the ring... and Gollum biting Frodo's finger off. It really made me sad for Frodo, all that he had gone through and how the ring had possessed him so that it changed him from the happy, carefree, beer drinkin', pub crawlin' Hobbit to this poor, pitiful, shell of a creature that he becomes in the end.
By Iluvitar, Arwen better not slay the Nazgul witch-king in the movie!!! Besides, she's not really the Nazgul-slaying type. She's more of the "I'll hang out at my dad's until all this stuff is over so I don't break a nail" type.
[Ok, tech-gwaith, how do you get the tag under your name to change. I am not a hobbit.]
Artanis

I'm looking forward to:
The Paths of the Dead. I want the host of the Oathbreakers! If they leave that part out I'll be terribly disappointed.
The battle of the Pelennor fields. Aragorn with Andúril. Eowyn and the Witch-king.
Crowning of Aragorn.
Legolas hearing the gull's cry for the first time.
The Grey Havens.
I would also love to see Elladan, Elrohir and Halbarad, but I suppose they won't be there. :(
Edit:
Oh, and Ruinel, you're stuck with the title of Hobbit until you reach 50 posts. Then you'll become an Enting. :D Good advice: Read the FAQ. :)

From Artanis: I would also love to see Elladan, Elrohir and Halbarad, but I suppose they won't be there.
In the movie, Arwen seems to be an only child. Her brothers are not mentioned in the movie. It would be nice to see them riding into battle as in the story. I'm not sure that will happen, though. It is difficult to intro new characters into a sequel without spending time to "get to know them". Movie goers also do not get the connection of Arwen to Lorien and living with granny Galadriel and gramps Celeborn for a while. Which is why everyone must read the books!

I doubt they will put Arwen's brother's in the third movie, since they weren't even mentioned in the first two movies...and i definately hope PJ doesn't make Arwen slay the Witch-king...that's Eowyn's part!! she already stole glorfindel's part in FOTR.:)
I'm also looking forward to the death of Saruman!

Legolas_GreenLeaf wrote: "she already stole glorfindel's part in FOTR"
That was just about the only thing in the movie that really ticked me. I was looking forward to seeing Glorfindel in the movie. And that part was given to Arwen, too bad. But I think, since she's in the background for most of the books, that the writers (of the movie) wanted to increase her part and make her more important.
Which brings me to another question: Glorfindel died in the Sil. He was fighting a Balrog at Cirith Thoronath and during the fight he and the Balrog fall off a cliff and he dies.
Perhaps, the new fella with the same name is a son. Sometimes boys are named after their dads. Or maybe someone else has his name.
Gwaimir Windgem
02-20-2003, 06:48 PM
Nope. When Eldar die, their spirits go the Halls of Mandos for a time, and then they are reborn. It's the same one.
However, the Legolas of Gondolin and the Legolas of Mirkwood are not the same. Legolas was a common name among Elves, I think. :) And also, if I remember correctly, the two had different meanings; one was derived from Laigolas "Greenleaf" and the other was Legolast "Keen-eyed".

Well I can't believe I'm about to say this but I'm really looking forward to seeing Shelob. And I can't believe I said because spiders scare the crap out of me!!!! But I always loved Tolkeins portrayal of the gaint spider so I got kinda ticked when PJ left her out of the second movie.
I really want to see the part where Gollum falls off the cliff because in the book tolkien said something to the effect of; and he started to dance around shout its MINE my PRECIOUS! Then poof falls right off into Mount Doom and that scene always seemed very comical to me and I'd love to see it in the theater.

Gwaimir Windgem: good point. So they are one in the same: Glorfindel in the Sil is Glorfindel in LotR, returned from Mandos/ Halls of Awaiting. Thanks I often pondered that.

The paths of the dead is not one of my favorite parts of the book (it's not bad, it's just that ROTK has SO MANY great moments) -- but I have a sneaking suspicion that Peter (Zombie-Maker) Jackson will make this a spectacular part of the film.

Two in particular:
Shelob and the fight between Eowyn and the Witch King. Shelob because all the FX spiders I have seen are so bad they are laughable (in particular the TV adaption of Stephen King's "It"), and Weta has done a really bang-up job of all the evil creatures so far, so I'd like to see him pull this one off.
Of course, everyone's favorite will be the fight between Arwen and the captain of the wraiths, and mine too.
What I'd really like to see is a catfight between Arwen and Eowyn over Aragorn. Oops, sorry. barrelrider misbehaved. Bad barrelrider, bad! *smacks head against wall* Oops sorry, wrong movie. badbadbadbadbad!!

Ok, I can't say I've ever seen him with a female. But you can't make assumptions like that about Legolas. :confused: He's just not interested in "love" at this point in his life. His into adventure and exploring ME outside his dad's kingdom.
As for Gimli, I think any "coupling" with same sex Dwarves would be merely a mistaken identity.;)
Aragorn is totally uninterested in Eowyn. And Eowyn is really only interested in Aragorn for the glory. She really isn't in love with Aragorn, but she mistakes that attraction and respect for him for love. She hooks up with Faramir and they are a good match (opposites attract). :)

Oh. geez, where the heck do I start?
Merry and Pippin smoking and snoozing as the army of Rohan approaches, and the sharing of pipeweed as the fellowship members catch up;
The parley with Saruman and Wormtongue's hurliing down of the Palantir;
Pippin's tortuous experience talking to Sauron hissef through the purloined Palantir;
The first good hard long look at Minas Tirith as Gandalf crosses the Pelennor with Pippin riding shotgun on Shadowfax;
Our first look at Denethor and the "interrogation" of Pippin by old mad D;
The scenes of hordes of orcs, trolls and seige engines approaching Minas Tirith for the big battle;
Aragorn and Company on the Paths of the Dead and the scene at Erech;
Aragorn calling Sauron a big wuss and a sissypants via the Palantir;
The assault of the Witch King on the gates of Minas Tirith and Gandalf's standoff;
The arrival of the host of Rohan, the fall of Theoden and the brave attack from behind by Merry the Kneestabber and Dernhelm/Eowyn;
The arrival of the host of the Captains of the West at the Morannon;
The arrival of Sauron on the battlefield to face Aragon mano-a-mano (oh come ON, you can't POSSIBLY think Jackson wouldn't write that in);
Shelob and the scenes in Cirith Ungol and Minas Morgul (PLEASE leave in Shagrat and Gorbag...);
Gollum's last stand....and fall;
And, sadly,finally, reluctantly,
The Grey Havens and Sam's final arrival Home.

I don't think he will, since this doesn't happen in the book.
Even though, they did have this in the intro to FotR. I thought he was a bit too human there, which is why I agree with you Lalaith. But how else are you supposed to portray Sauron, I suppose.
Edit: I just thought of this: Prince Imrahil! He's going to be so cool! The Prince of Dol Amroth.

He might not get mentioned maybe, but the battle of Pelannor Fields will definately be in RotK, so he'll at least get to ride by the cameras a few times. I don't think it would be hard to keep him in the scene after Eowyn kills the Nazgul Captain. She's unconscious and Eomer thinks she's dead. Prince Imrahil sees that she's still breathing and has her taken back to Minis Tirith. They don't even have to say his name, but I'll know who he is.

Well, that would be one way. ;)
Actually, he'll be the one who's leading the largest company of men into Minis Tirith, rought 3000 knights.
He's also the one looking concerned about Eowyn, who isn't Merry or Eomer, who checks to see if she's still breathing, and finds that he is. Plus, he runs the city, or at least commands the battle, for a while while Denathor is going slightly mad.

"But no living man am I! Eowyn I am, Eomund's daughter! You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, be you living or dark undead, for I will smite you, if you touch him!"
Ok. So maybe the quote was a little off. I don't know, I'm doing this from memory. But if PJ screws up one minute of the entire scene, I will send him hate mail every day, and makes sure he regrets it until the end of his days!!!

I anticipate comparing the ROTK book to the movie. I do hope they include the end of the One Ring, they wouldn't change that to make Frodo look good. Would they? Would they?!

I have every confidence in PJ's battle abilities. The only problem I've had with any of PJ's battles is having some of the characters ham it up a little for drama's sake. (Ahem: Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli at Helm's Deep.)
But I think he will portray Eowyn and Merry's slaying of the Witch-King beautifully, and no one will be 'screwed up'. That scene has all the drama and suspense he could possibly desire.
Even though Frodo has be buggered up in some previous scenes, I doubt PJ would change the end just so he doesn't come off as evil. Bilbo went all evil in Rivendell when he saw the Ring, PJ knows it's important to show its influence on everyone, even hobbits.
So I don't think the end will get screwed up either. And bonus, imagine how cool Mt. Doom is going to be! Wow!

That doesn't have to do with bravery; it crosses the line between dealing with bravery and dealing with intelligence. :) It would just be very not-smart to change how the Ring is destroyed. There is no question in my mind that he will preserve that, at least. If he didn't, I would be surprised if he didn't die a violent death (probably bomb, gun, or stabbing)

I'm not! I'll see it again and again in theatres, then I'll go buy the DVD box set.

Um...it's rathe a bit late for THAT. But as for the positively big, climatic scene, he won't change that. Unless it's for an inclusion of Arwen and her 'Evenstars'. :rolleyes:

Maybe she'll run in andshove Gollum into the Cracks of Doom, instead of him just falling in, and then, instead of Frodo and Sam being rescued by Gwaihir, his lieutenants, and Gandalf, she'll call for Glorfindel's horse and bring them safely to Minis Tirith.
Aaargh! Sometimes I just scare myself!:eek: What I'm looking forward to in RotK would be the above not happening.

That's the best idea! I'm going to wear a nifty cloak at least. I love cloaks. With hoods.
Envy. Unfortunately I live in a place where I would be the only person in the whole cinema dressed up. They would all stare at me and laugh at me and I'd never be able to go to school again.

Do it anyway! People will respect your individuality. I'm lucky in that I can probably convince two of my friends to do it too. I hope you have some supportive, Tolkien obsessed friends too. :)
Lookin forward to RotK! (Have you seen the promo poster with Aragorn? Wow!)

I know some people who liked the movie, but they won't dress up. Maybe I'll visit a bigger city for some days to go to the midnight's preview. I mean, this night only comes once in my lifetime. I should enjoy it.
