:(
Did anyone else cry in the first Lord of the Rings film?
I did.
Mainly when Gandalf and Boromir died, but also when I thought Sam would drown.
Please write so that I don't feel stupid.
Thanks.

I think that this thread should be in The LotR movies thread. There might already be a thread on this as well but I'm not sure.

Nope, I didn't cry but it was sad.

One tear fell when Frodo screamed, "NOOOOOOOO!!!" after Gandalf slipped. One tear.

Three fell for Boromir because I knew he was really dead. And I had kinda grown attached to that little bugger . . .

I cried at the end of the first movie and right before the battle of Helm's Deep because all the young boys had to go into battle. *sniffles*:(

I started crying when Boromir was dying, or when Merry and Pippin got captured or when Aragorn was bidding Boromir goodbye. I just remember crying sometime in there, and I didn't stop till I left the theater. I am a VERY emotional person.
Rana was it FRODO who cried one tear when Gandalf died or you? I'm kind of lost cause Frodo cried one tear too so.
I didn't cry in TTT...I got REALLY close though when I saw all those lads in Helms Deep going to war and the mothers were crying, or when Sam says his little bit in the end about the stories.
Cheers,
Sam,
ps. I almost forgot. I was REALLY close to crying when that...that...that over grown brocolli plant showed up...crying out of pity and misery for the actor who had to play that vegetable, and misery because they slaughtered Treebeard.

wait...I never knew they slaughtered Treebeard! I guess I didn't notice....:D

I cry occasionally at movies; not very often, though. Well, not really CRY, but I do get misty-eyed. Occasionally cry. I did get misty at the end of FotR. I think it was 'Yet we may, Mister Frodo. We may.' That line was one of the best delivered in the movies, IMO.

Yes, I think this should be in the LOTR Movies forum.

(In case BB sees this: This doesn't mean I think the movies are the books! ;) Just that I think, as I have stated before, that they are good movies!)

I didn't cry at all during the FOTR or TTT. Probably because I knew that Boromir was going to die and that Gandalf fell in Moria. I probably should have cried when Arwen showed her face in the movies. :D
I might cry in the ROTK when Frodo you-know-whats in the end, since I did cry during that part in the book, but it remains to be seen if PJ can pull that off. I hope he can.

Ah, too true, too true. ;)

I don't think it's really a matter of 'can'. At least, not as much as 'will' or 'want to'.

Well, it WAS his fault. And also, Pippin DID kinda alert the Orcs to their presence.

I've cried during only two movies. At the end of Swing Kids I cried, and at the end of TTT as well. I didn't cry at all for any part during either of the movies, but listening to the Smaegol song really tore at me. It was beautiful, but tragic. And it wasn't just because of Smaegol, but because of every person who might have to go through a similar incident. That also was what effected me about Swing Kids, particularly after reflecting on the movie.

*sniff*

I cried when Arwen had her little lecture from Elrond in TTT. That was SO SAD.....
And I heard thatr you will most likely be crying within 40 minutes of the 3rd movie. (I hope so :o ) I'm one of those odd people who actually LIKE crying in the movies..... I will most likely be weeping myself to bits when
A. Frodo is attacked by Shelob
B. Sam thinks he is dead
C. Sam cannot find him
D. Sam finds him
E. All through Mordor
F. The end
G. Most of the movie, basically :o

I don't cry at movies, really. I get really teary eyed. I think a few tears slipped for FOTR though... I can't really remember. The part where Gandalf died.... I cried in that part in the books.... Boromir dying.... yeah

For TTT, I got a bit misty eyed when Haldir died (I KNOW IT WASNT IN THE BOOKS OR W/E BUT THE ELVISH DEATH THINGY WAS SAD!!)

I felt this overwhelming empty sadness sort of thing with Elrond and Arwen, when they went forward to Aragorn's grave scene and Arwen going thru the woods.... it gives me the chills.

And at the Helms Deep part, with all the recruiting of dudes. Yeah.

Ho hum, I'm a nutcase.

i cried when:

Gandalf fell into shadow
Boromir died
And the bit where we see Frodo hugging Sam at the end (true freindship, awww!)
And in TTT, i got misty eyes when we saw Arwen leaving, poor Aragorn (stupid PJ would probably have him marry Eowyn... ¬_¬)

I cried in Sam's big speech near the end, and Arwen leaving, and when Gandalf died and when, basically I was crying all the way through both films.

I cried when everyone thought Gandalf was dead. Even though I knew he doesn't die there, there pain was so real, I cried.

I also cried shamelessly when Boromir died.

I didn't cry in TTT, only FotR. I expect RotK might make me cry.

(If they do the scene at the Battle of Pelanor Fields where the heads of their comrades are catapulted over the walls.)

I don't remember that! But it would be pretty effective if they spend a little time building up their characters. But of course, we all know PJ would NEVER take time away from Tolkien's story...

Do I detect a note of sarcasm? ;)

I think the scene I described in my spoiler would be extremely sad! How could it not be!? It has all the elements of a good PJ scene: dramatic, meaningful, and fun with special effects.

I didn't cry in the first film but, however, I did happen to cry during the second film. *raise hand* Aragorn fan. Much.

Like I said earlier I didn't cry in the first film but I did in the second when Sam gave his speech, when Haldir died, and when Aragorn died/ passed out after the warg fight (I don't know how I could cry about the warg fight because I knew he didn't die but Iwas also laughing because Legolaslvr! was so shocked and sad because she hadn't read the book and she tought that he really did die. It was really funny to watch her cause she was about to scream).

From what I've heard, read, whatever ROTK is going to have the audience crying 40 minutes into the film and I also read that the movie's gonna be a blinkin' 3 1/2 hours long I'm going to have to take a whole bedsheet to wipe my tears, or maybe I'll just use my cloak. I'm goin' dressed up next year...all the way. Feet and all. :D
Cheers all,
Sam

Yup. I cried in four different places in LoTR and not afraid to admit it. Gandalf's death (or falling into Shadow), Boromir's death, when Sam was going to drown and when he said his line, "I made a promise Mr. Frodo, a promise! Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee. And I don't mean to, I don't mean to." Then I got upset when Gandalf yells at Pippin and Frodo yells at Sam in TTT. Also cried durings Sam's speech and when Sam and Frodo are talking in the end. Then when Haldir died. So you're not alone. I've been told I put too much emotional stock in LoTR. But who listens to the nonbelievers anyway? But god I loved the part when Elronds telling Arwen how it'll be. So creepy. Someone refresh my memory (I only say TTT twice--darn my mom!) does Arwen leave for good?

Please don't use a topical thread to ask site-related questions. Read the FAQ, do a search (you'll find more than a couple of topics related to avatars [picture thingies]), or PM a mod or admin about that kind of thing. Thanks.

I'm not supposed to do this but here: just find a picture you like on the net, right click on it, go to properties copy the site there and then go to edit options and click on 'change avatar' and paste it in where it says 'enter url'. You might want to delete whats already there though. Or you can upload one from your computer. The catch is it has to be a certain size (small!). Hope that helps.
