I'm surprised no one has opened a thread to speculate about this yet. This thread might have some spoilers.

What implications do Arwen's actions in The Two Towers have on her role in the Return of the King?

Right now, it looks as though she going to leave Middle-earth with many of her kin. Obviously she can't do that, she has to marry Aragorn.

What do you think she will do?

She is bringing Aragorn "The Flame of the West", Andúril and I also gather she will be bringing him what she made for him so he can go through the Paths of the Dead...

I agree with Dúnedain, when we see Arwen leaving Rivendell in TTT, I believe she is taking Andúril to him. I wonder where Arwen will meet Aragorn. The last scene we see in TTT is Aragorn, Gandalf, ect. riding from Helm's Deep. Maybe she will meet them in the wild somewhere.
If Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas take the paths of the dead, where will Arwen be and what will she be doing? I'm getting worried thinking about that....

It will take her some time to get from Rivendell to Gondor or Rohan so she might come a little later.

hmm by my powers of foresite i am prepared to say she will be as physically attractive as always;)
yeah i thought that that was the house of elrond off to say g'day to aragorn but they made it seem like they were going to Valinor how very tricksy of PJ... ohh ill have to go and see if i can see a Elrohir/Elladan elf there:rolleyes:

I thought PJ won't have Arwens brothers in the movies because to many characters would confuse the non-reader movie-goers.

Millane

yes thats what i heard too, thats why i must find some Elladan/Elrohir elves... or at least some substitutes so i can just pretend they are in it :p

I don't want Arwen to have too many extra scenes.

Deliver the sword. Leave. Marry Aragorn. End.

Actually I think RotK Arwen will be extremely cool. In her brief appearances, she will demonstrate the queenliness and wisdom that Arwen possessed in the book.

:)

If the paths of the dead is still in (why isn't it path of the dead?) someone must deliver the prophesy as well. I doubt they will include the grey company since it would be too many extra characters (so they say). I guess she could bring the banner as well. Then she will mud wrestle Eowyn... oh wait, this isn't the fanman thread:D

I predict ROTK will open with a flashback of the sword that was broken being reforged and then we'll see Arwen leave Rivendell again but this time the audience will know that she carries the sword with her and is heading to Gondor (thus the sad/angry look on Elrond's face when she looks up at him when leaving.

what if she goes with Aragorn in the Paths of the Dead????  And she just takes the place of her brothers???

Well, she is an elf, so she shouldn't be afraid of the ghosts.... I guess.

That would be horrible if that happens.

I actually read over on theonering.net that Legolas will be taking the place of Elladan/Elrohir on the Paths of the Dead, so I don't think we need to worry about that, but I will cross my fingers just in case! :D

So who would take Legolas' place?:D

She would have been nice to have in if Liv Tyler hadn't been such a lousy actress. :(

What was the part of Elladan/Elrohir in RotK?

Legolas (and Gimli) go with Aragorn anyway... it's in the book :)

Ah, yes, not in this thread. I've posted a few other places, but not in the right thread. :o Anyway, here it is officially.

Arwen jumps ship just before they pull out of harbor, and swims to shore. The little horse wrassler whistles for Asfaloth, and rides to Minas Tirith. She arrives just when the noble Theoden falls. Rather than see his fallen body desecrated by the Witch-King, she fights the Captain of Despair, with the aid of none but Merry :o

Of course, Glorfindel was in the book too... but I don't think Gimli will be cut out or anything. Maybe mocked mercilessly, but he will be on the Paths of the dead.

No way! lol I know that, however so do Elrond's sons, but they aren't in the movies...

Do we know that for certain? They turn up with the rangers and since that hasn't happened in the movies yet they wouldn't have been in it.

I know there's rumours going about but does anyone actually KNOW they wont be in the movies?

Where did you find that cast list?

Dúnedain

From www.imdb.com

That was my reasoning for saying there is no Elladan/Elrohir as well :D

Thanks Lalaith :D

I was reading the Tolkien's famous "all those who wander are not lost" poem about Aragorn and the sword-that-was-broken last night. I was struck by how powerful and dramatic that poem is and then I suddenly got excited when I realized it will probably be spoken in the next movie...by Arwen when she gives the sword to Aragorn.

How does that strike the rest of you?

didnt bilbo write that poem? I hope she doesnt take that from Bilbo :(

Gah! I bet your right! That two-timing little...First, she steals Glorfindel's horse, lines, and screen-time; then, she steals time which could have been spent developing the Ents, or sending Frodo into Shelob's lair, and now she'll probably finish her career with stealing Bilbo's poem, if not Eowyn's Nazgul-smiting sequence thingummy! What twit told PJ there was an Elf princess?

If you really are anticipating what is going to happen with Arwen in the Return of the King, stop first and look back to what they have already done. For instance, Arwen was only introduced in Rivendell when she was seated beside Elrond (this part being in the Fellowship of the Ring). This was the only time she was featured in the book. Now, look how much they have blown up her character! (I wish she would be blown up) Then, in the Two Towers, she wasn't featured at all, yet her part in this movie may have been longer than her part in the Fellowship. Now, considering she was on a few pages in the Return of the King after marrying Aragorn, she'll most likely take up the whole movie. That said, she'll probably jump in front of the screen, wrestle the Ring from Frodo and Gollum, and destory the Ring herself. So... what dost thou think of my theory? I'd much enjoy a private message if you will. This is but merely what I'm hypothesizing.:)

Ouch... I hope not straight face. And Gwaimir, when you posted that spoiler, you were just kidding right? Uh... right??

In answer to someone's previous question, the "All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost..." poem was written by Bilbo about Aragorn. He recites in in FotR at the council of Elrond to stick up for Aragorn. (This is that part where, in the movie, Legolas is like "respect Aragorn fool!")

It wouldn't make sense for Arwen to recite it, but it is possible. I don't think she will have as much screen time as many of you speculate. She was hardly in TTT, even though that much was built on nothing.

Maybe Arwen will be safing Faramir from his father or she'll be on the boats as the beautiful sailor woman. *gg*

She will give up her immortality to live with Aragorn, all you have to do is read the apendix in the third book.

I think they made Arwen to lovesick for my liking. She was hardly metioned in the books, except for the appendix, as Gaporli said.

Did you post twice on purpose?

I think everybody in here has read the appendices. We are just joking around. Making fun of the huge Arwen produced by PJ.
