I've read many of her books. It's been a long time since I've read Atlas Shrugged cover-to-cover, but from time to time I pick it up and re-read some of my favorite chapters.

A few years after she died, some of her early unpublished work was published in The Early Ayn Rand.

I AGREE 200%, and just finished the same book which I hadn't read since college. It's remarkable how it could be a foreshadow of what may come if the government keeps regulating us to death.

I read "Anthem" this summer, when I went on a 'classics' reading spree (also on my list was "A Clockwork Orange". Horrid stuff...::shudder:: ). It was okay, but I've seen the idea done in a similar way before, in more modern literature. I could read "The Fountain Head" for an essay contest, but I don't know if I'm going to.

"The Fountainhead" is a bit depressing compared to "Atlas Shrugged". That and it's length should be considered if you're thinking of using it for an essay.
I'd be interested in learning your decision and if you do decide to read it, drop a note. ;)

It's for a scholarship, and if you're in eleventh or twelfth grade you have to read The Fountainhead and do one of their essay questions to enter. I'm still thinking about it. I have another year.

I've actually never read any of her fiction, though I intend to at some point. Many years ago I picked up some essays by her and her followers, and I've got a decent idea of her philosophical slant. I'm not sure if I really wrapped my head around it at that time, though... I was only thirteen or so :)
