Elrond and Galadriel. And an honorable mention for Celeborn, everyone's favorite buttmonkey*. :p
*Disclaimer: Celeborn is not really a buttmonkey. Everyone just thinks he is. Please do not physically injure the writer of this post for spewing out such horrible nonsense.

The thread titel says LOTR but the 1st post says ME.
So which one is it?
They might move to the appropriate forums if you meant ME and not LOTR.

Luthien Tinuviel.
I quote:
"And so they lost forever her whom they loved best."
Lefty Scaevola
02-11-2003, 10:29 AM
Gil Galad was a loved king over most Eldar (save the part of the Nandor East of the Misty Mountains and the few rusticated Sindar that moved among them) and many Avari for over 3 millenia, with also the longestperiod of peace for the Eldar, between the War of Wrath and the War of Elves and Sauron. He was held loved liege by far the greatest population of Elves.

From LOTR: The PalantĂ*r
And how it draws one to itself! Have I not felt it? Even now my heart desires to test my will upon it, to see if I could not wrench it from him and turn it where I would-to look across the wide seas of water and of time to Tirion the Fair, and perceive the unimaginable hand and mind of FĂ«anor at their work, while both the White Tree and the Golden were in flower!' He sighed and fell silent.
To think that Gandalf thought about that. :)

I think Finrod Felagund. I don't have the quote, but I remember they said about it when he died.

If we're including non-LOTR characters... I vote for Finrod. Everyone loves Finrod.
Figwit (alas) doesn't exist. And that is all I have to say about that.

Loved by them...the people of ME, and us too? I can only speak for myself! :) I vote for Elrond, he seemed to care about the free people of middle earth, and had a wonderful haven, not exclusive to elves. Of course, he is half elven, does he count?

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost,
The old that are strong do not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring!
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be King!

in my opinion Glorfindal (sp?) is the most loved... well to me anyway becuase he helps aragorn and the hobbits... he defeated a bolrog... returned from the dead basicly and is just about the coolest elf i know and have heard of

The Lord of the Rings. Appendix A, pg 343:
'As Queen of Elves and Men she dwelt with Aragorn for six-score years in great glory and bliss; yet at last he felt the approach of old age and knew that the span of his life-days was drawing to an end, long though it had been. Then Aragorn said to Arwen:
'"At last, Lady Evenstar, fairest in this world, and most beloved, my world is fading. Lo! we have gathered, and we have spent, and now the time of payment draws near."

02-15-2003, 03:33 PM
Grr... Legolas fanaticism. I love and cherish Legolas... but not that much. Heck, I used to think of him as a brunette.
But I forgive you all.
I certainly support an honorable mention for Gildor. He's the first elf we meet in Lord of the Rings, and his simple wisdom is unparalleled. He's just so... Elvish.
Elvellyn

Anduril- Duh Arwen was most beloved to Aragorn- she was his wife!:p
AndĂșril
02-16-2003, 04:52 AM
Elvellyn:
Anduril- Duh Arwen was most beloved to Aragorn- she was his wife!:pIn that case, we should actually understand the passage as follows:'"At last, Lady Evenstar, fairest in this world to me, and most beloved to me, my world is fading. Lo! we have gathered, and we have spent, and now the time of payment draws near."I see no reason to read it like this, necessarily. At the same time, I wouldn't rule it out completely.
It seems, to me at least, that the explicit affirmation that she was the Queen of Elves and Men set the context for his description of her.
Millane
02-17-2003, 01:22 AM
Searos! Are you kidding? Why him?
Saeros is the only trouble making elf... everyone always hears the good stuff about elves then they come to saeros :p hmmm maybe not the most loved elf but still a champ.
i still stand by my choice of Gil-galad though.
Lalaith
02-17-2003, 09:31 AM
Legolas - at least for me.
But I don't think that the people in middle-earth would have chosen him. They would have thought of someone like Elrond or Galadriel. Or of one from the older ones like Finrod or Fingolfin e.g.
Radagast The Brown

Anduril: I don't think Arwen was the most beloved elf. Could be. I don't think that there is someone who's beloved by everyone anyway.

LotR: Elrond, of course.
ME: don't know, prob'ly Glorfindel or Fingolfin:D
Willow Oran
02-19-2003, 06:34 PM
Glorfindel, the song that was made about his fighting the balrog was titled the Song of the Beloved. That implies that he was well loved by quite a lot of people.
However Elrond is definetly a possibility, he seemed to be on good terms with all the free races and he is the only character who Tolkien included in the Silmarillion, LotR, and The Hobbit. Besides that he does have an awesome character.
IMHO It has to be Legolas Greenleaf..

I can't say Legolas because this character was a bit of an afterthought for LotR. All we know of him is that his grandfather Oropher died in the 1st war with Sauron along with 2/3 of the elven from Eryn Lasgalen who went to war with him. And then Thranduil, his father moved all of the rest of those elves that were left under his rule as far to the north of Mirkwood/Lasgalen as he could to keep away from the Dwarves and the influence of Galadriel and Celeborn. That is all of his background that I can find. Then he is in the background in LotR to the story, although always there. I can't really get to know him well. So, no... I can't say he is most beloved.
I've got to rule out any sons of Feanor, because of the kinslaying. That really put a bad taste in my mouth.
I have a soft spot in my heart for Finrod Felagund. I really liked the Lay of Leithian.
Of course, Elrond. Well, yes, he was in 3 different books. He kicked some Orc butt in war with Gil-Galad (rest is soul). And he likes the Perianath, which means he has a light heart. Too bad about his wife, though. And that Arwen, jeeze! you'd think a child would be a little bit more obedient (she needs a spanking!). So, he's patient. I like that in an elf.
Elrond it is.

He's got plenty of charm, which Elrond IMO has not, or he doesn't reveal it to us (readers). And I bet he sings far better than Elrond, too :D Legolas is also a loyal friend, which he proves both to Aragorn and Gimli.
His part in the book was perhaps a lesser one, but boring - no no, not to me.

Not much to sink your teeth into as far as a character. This is in comparison with all the other characters in all the other books, be they Hobbit, Human, Elf, Ent, Dwarf, etc.
