Does anyone else think Merry was WONDERFUL with Treebeard? I absolutely loved his aswer to him: see below.

i agree, Merry did make a good point, AND i did like Merry & Pip in FOTR aswell, but i think that this mission made them think more seriously. i mean, Pippin was DEFINATLY more serious in TTT!

I didn't like the fact that the Hobbits had to persuade and then almost trick Tree Beard into attacking Isenguard.......but the best line in the entire trilogy to date had to be "Don't speak to it Merry don't encourage it!" or lines to that effect.

RB! YOU'RE BACK!!!!*Grabs RB in bone crushing hug and jumps up and down* YOU'RE BACK FRODO!!!!HE HE HE HE HE!!!! Ahem...pardon that outburst. Yes anyway *giggle*. I liked it when Merry shouts "How can that be YORE DESICION!?" He just sounds so cool doing that...especially the yore the yore is just so much fun to do...especially with the look on Merrys face as he says it. The way he says Descision is funny too.
I didn't like ents attitudes. Loved the hobbits reaction to them, but the Ents reaction to the hobbits could have been better done. They were just walking veggies with faces...terrible. Though I liked it when they ripped into Isengard and kicked some wizard butt.
Cheers,
Sam

I'm glad Merry and Pip got a better part in TT than LotR, although it does kinda suck that the Ents were so... well, not Tolkien-ish, in my opinion. But that part really did show the development in Merry's character, as well as definite differences between him and Pippin. Also gave Pippin a chance to be "some one of intelligence". :)

I think both Pippin and Merry do some growing up in TTT. Merry was so great with the Ents and Pippin finally found his courage as Galadriel fortold! :D If they keep it true with the book they'll both show more maturity next movie.

"Don't speak to it Merry don't encourage it!" that's a brilliant line I love it! It's a classic Pippin line!

Indeed, tis one of the ten or eleven times I got teary-eyed (I'm far too sensitive in theatres... no wonder no one ever wants to go to the movies with me. :(). Merry and Pippin both do a ton of growing up, so to speak. ;)

Merry and (especially) Pippin HAVE to become more mature during TTT and RoTK... could you imagine Merry and Pippin from FOTR becoming lords of the shire after the WotR is over?

They were funny in FotR though, and the Pippin "don't encourage it" line was great :)

I like the "don't incorage it " line as well. I agree that they both did grow up a lot, but I hope they don't grow up to much more or they will lose most of there humor. :D

Merry seemed to be very mature in this and always seemed to be the one arguing or explaining stuff.
Like he knew what ents were, what would happen if the ents didn't join in the war, why he and Pippin wouldn't make a difference if they went back to the shire etc.
Pippin was much quieter, and although he did get to say a good line :) he pretty much took the back seat while Merry did everything. (That probably doesn't make much sense - sorry)
I think that it is a good change, as they were immature in FOTR (Not that I am complaining - I loved them!) and that wouldn't help as their roles change as the story progress.

Not really... at first Merry was doing all the arguing, but once Treebeard started taking them to the West of fangorn forest he seemed resigned that there was no chance of changing treebeards mind. But it was Pippin that told Treebeard to take them south, knowing that he would see the destroyed trees and the fires in Isengard and that they may then go to war.

Of course while Merry and Pippin were used for comic relief in the first movie, that is given to Gimli in this movie. So they are free to be a little serious.
