View Full Version : Amusing part of the Council of Elrond

Maybe it's just me, but everytime I watch FOTR, when Gimli jumps up and tries to destroy the ring, and his axe shatters, then soon after during the sequence when Aragorn says "and my sword", Legolas says "and my bow," then Gimli has a good as new axe and says "AND MY AXE."
Maybe he had two of them, but I always laugh at that part. Even if he did have two axes, if I was Frodo, I'd be thinking, "Yeah, and a lot of good that will do me!"

I think his axe was double-headed, and only one blade shattered.
Wayfarer

No. He uses several different axes throughout the movie.

I agree. Every time I see that scene I have an amused smile on my face. :)

I know he uses several different axes, but it doesn't seem to me that he really has time to get another one, and also the axe he has then looks like a one-headed version of the one has before to me.

Wow, I never even noticed that . . . maybe he just nicked an axe from one of the other Dwarves sitting around. Although then technically it wouldn't have been his ax he was offering...

ohhh to me it just looked like he flogged someone elses when he went to smash the ring... yeah gimli had stack of axes in the movie in TTT after Gandalf stuffs his throwing axe another one pops into his belt for helms deep... i hated elronds smirk after gimli fell on his arse... Gimli should have dropped him

It's not just Gimli's axe that reappears. When Gandalf escapes from Isengard he leaves without his staff because Saruman took it, then at Rivendell it miraculously appears in his hand as usual! Is it supposed to happen like that?

Oh, come on 'Mooters! The axe Gimli grabs to smash the Ring is the axe of the Dwarf sitting next to him! Moviemistakes.com has got a lot of info on this kind of stuff:)
eowyngirl14
01-31-2003, 01:38 PM
Yes, If you watch it in slow-mo you can clearly see Gimili grab the ax of the person next to him (the dwarf shifts a littleso that he can get at it) If I wee that dwarf I would be kinda mad Gimili had just ruined my axe.
But yes, ammusing all the same!:) :)

Yes, yes, but what aboutGandalf's staff?

He's a clever guy... maybe he had a spare? or used the force to carry it back to him? or waved his magic wand and said 'accio staff'!?:) :)

You'd better watch out - I'll get very angry if you mix HP with LOTR again!!!:D But hey it was kinda funny.

I know it was wasn't it? I can't wait until episode 3! All my friend will laugh, but I will cry when it is over. I really hope George Lucas makes a third trilogy like he said he would!
TO get back on topic: Couldn't Gandalf just make another staff?
Elvedans
01-31-2003, 05:56 PM
Wouldn't he have to like put loads of magic in it or is it just an ordinary stick to use as a prop? And what was that ball he puts on it in Moria?
eowyngirl14
01-31-2003, 06:04 PM
The thing he puts into t in moris is suppost to look like a magical white rock that he can make light up, like a flashlight!

Man, i;m starting to wonder about the intelligence of my fellow 'Mooters:) The staff that Gandalf has before Sarumon takes it is diffrent then the staff he has at Rivedell. You know, if you watch these movies around a hundred times, you start to pick up on these things:):):):):D:D:D

Sorry I just don't go in for noticing details much. I just get engrossed in ME and unless something really jumps out at me as a mistake then i don't tend to notice much!

Ah, the wonders of an endless supply of props. :) I never actually noticed it, but you're right, he does.... That's funny, jeez, you'd think they'd either catch that or change the script or something...

Well I just have to say that in TTT when Gandalf smacks Gimli's axe away it didn't break so he probably just went and picked it up in between scenes. Also Gimli has a lot of axes. Just thought I should mention it but in Gimli's action figure he has about 8 different axes and like three throwing axes and two regular one balde axes and one wicked big double bladed axe.

I think gimli carries 2 axes because you always see them in battle and in the game.
Legolas_Frodo_Aragorn
02-02-2003, 06:24 PM
yea, he carries several of them, but it is weird
Gwaimir Windgem
02-02-2003, 06:53 PM
He carries 5, I think.
2 Throwing Axes
1 Battle-Axe
1 Two-Headed Axe
1 Walking-Stick Axe
I think that's what they said on the DVD, at least.

This way, you're sure to have an axe on-hand to cleave orc heads! Even after a long battle that's been going all day.
It really outlines how tough Dwarves are too. Not only did Gimli have the regular amount of gear and food the rest of the Fellowship had, but he also had about fifty pounds of axes!

I mean when they were chasing the Orcs. And of course, he was a comic prop, too...But enough about that. Enough about that! *smacks self*

well you cant expect anyone to not be huffy and puffy after running at full speed carrying all your gear for 3 days straight after a mob of uruk hai imprisoning two rather rambuncious hobbits.
Gwaimir Windgem
02-03-2003, 06:39 PM
Legolas and Aragorn weren't. And Dwarves could run several days with full packs.
Balrog_of_Morgoth
02-03-2003, 09:14 PM
Yea, I guess I stand corrected. If he carries several axes or grabs someone elses axe, it is not quite as amusing. I still think it is kinda funny that he says "And MY AXE" right after he busted one to smithereens, though. :D

I didn't imagine Gimli to be so blustery in the books, when I read them.

I thought the Gimli that was chosen was perfect for LoTR. He just looked AND acted like a dwarf. I always imagined dwarves to be a little "stockier" than hobbits...but that's just my opinion:)
(What's the name of the actor who plays Gimli?? It's on the tip of my tongue but I can't think of it?! John Rhys something...)
Fred Baggins

John Rhys Davies
Didn't the books mention something about Gimli ALWAYS carring TWO axes?

This is madness! MADNESS I TELL YOU! Legolas is brainwashing many young teen girls. You were too weak to resist his false 'HOT' rays. You are weak! WEAK I TELL YOU! WEAK!!! You may find his blue eyes attractive, but wait THEY ARE BROWN NOW! See? he is a shape shifter. An animagus. He is evil! And he will be the ruin of all! All will love him and despair!
lol He isn't evil!!!!! Girls don't just like him because he is attractive... He is a talented actor too.
Why are you against Orli?????:( :( :(

The same reason I am against Danielle Radcliffe: mainly because he just never really struck my fansy, and because everyone else likes them, and also a good part because all of my friends like Orlando.
oh- and please don't call him Orli, it reminds me of orgi!

The fact that Gimli's axe seems to break then mend again in one scene, but actually he uses someone else's axe. Then of course there is Gandalf's staff which also seems to reappear by magic and - hang on are you pulling my leg?

Obviously Gimli went to go sit down, and then started gluing the axe back together. ( I certainly didn't see the shards of his axe anytime after he tried to kill the ring on the platform) As for Gandalf's staff, while on his way to steal Shadowfax he went to Wal-Mart. What about that anology?
